I have two of the Ben Nye Luxury Powders. I have them and have been using them for…not gonna lie years now. I had never really thought to do a review on them, I never really thought people would be interested to be honest. The couple of times I have posted pictures on them though, I have gotten so many questions about where I got them, How much they were, are they good etc, so I thought I would pop all that information in a handy blogpost, so people could just come here for all the answers 🙂

The two Ben Nye Luxury Powders I own are the Banana Powder and the Cameo Powder.

Ben Nye Luxury PowdersBen Nye (who are a professional makeup brand, that’s why they are kind of hard to get hold of) do a plethora of colours in their Luxury Powder range. They come in a whole host of sizes too. The two powders I have would probably be classed as the medium size. They contain 42 grams of product. If you are just using them on yourself, this size will probably last you a lifetime 🙂 The powders themselves are really finally milled. They almost have a flour like consistency to them, which makes them really messy because they go everywhere, but means they apply to the skin really nicely and you can really layer them up.

The Ben Nye Luxury Banana Powder is of course a yellow powder.

iris beauty blogIf you are sallow, this would work great as an all over setting powder.

top irish beauty blogFor me, I like it for setting the under eye area. A yellow toned powder is great for adding a little more coverage to any discolouration you may have under there. Depending on how much coverage I want, I’ll use either a brush for a lighter dusting or a sponge to really pack the product on.

The other one I have is the Ben Nye Luxury Cameo Powder.

This, on my lighter and more pink skin tone is the one I would use to set my whole face.

irish beauty bloggerAgain, like the banana powder you can sheer is out or really pack it on depending on your preference.

beauty blog irelandbeauty blogger irelandTo me, neither of these Ben Nye products give you any major coverage. They are both brilliant for mattifying, and keeping you looking matte without making you look like you are caked in makeup or settling in any fine lines or pores. They will also subtly colour correct the area that you add them too.

Overall, I really love the Ben Nye Luxury Powders. They are a staple in my makeup collection and I reach for them alot. You can buy them online from Ireland here from Sunaura.

I already have makeup looks with all the Urban Decay Naked palettes here on Beautynook. You can check out Naked 1 look here, Naked 2 here, Naked 3 here and Naked Smoky here. I did a look with the Naked 2 the other day and put a couple of selfies up on my Facebook page and some of you seem to like it and asked me to film a tutorial, thank you by the way 🙂

irish beauty blogger urban decay naked 2irish beauty blogSo, I did it, well attempted to anyways 🙂 I am really new to this Youtube thing, but I gave it my best go and managed to recreate this really easy Urban Decay Naked 2 makeup look. I am not a makeup artist so I am going to call them makeup looks rather than tutorials, hope you don’t mind.

If you like this video, it would make my day if you went over to my youtube channel and subscribed. I am going to try my best to be consistent with it.

Thanks, as always for stopping by.

Let me know what you think.

First off, doesn’t the name L’Oreal Infallible Mega Gloss Matte just confuse the bejesus out of you? It’s clever though because it made me buy a couple of them when I was browsing Boots a couple of weeks ago 🙂

L'Oreal Infallible Mega Gloss Matte

The L’Oreal Infallible Mega Gloss Matte do come in shiny gloss form too, so maybe that’s why they kept the name. They come in the same packaging as the ‘matte’ version, just in a whole host of other colours. There wasn’t as many colour choices for the mattes, so I only picked up two of the shades that I thought I would actually get use out of and wear.

The texture of the L’Oreal Infallible Mega Gloss Matte, to me is neither a gloss or a matte. I think they have a satin finish. You can however blot off the shiny layer if you choose and are left with a more matte appearance. This kind of gives us the best of both worlds. They are really pigmented and have the familiar sweet smell that alot of the L’Oreal lippies have. They have a sponge applicator that is curved in the middle and tapered at the tip, which is surprisingly handy for application. It kind of sits on your lip and you can let the applicator do the work.

The first shade I picked up is 405 ‘The Bigger The Better’.

top irish beauty bloggertop irish beauty blogIt’s a bright pink shade. Here it is swatched applied normally to the lips.

The second shade I got is 407 ‘Smoke Me Up’.

Overall, I am digging the L’Oreal Infallible Mega Gloss Matte. As they are more of a creamy finish, they do move around. You will have transfer and you will have to reapply after eating or drinking if you want to keep the full effects of the colour. However, after wear they do leave behind a lovely coloured stain on the lips, so you’re not left without pigment completely. They feel soft and comfortable on the lips and not at all sticky.

You can pick them up in store in Boots or online here. It’s a bit annoying on the Boots website, because it seems they have the gloss and mattes in the one grouping, so make sure you know what shade you want before purchasing online. They will set you back €7.79 and are on 3 for 2 at the minute.

Be sure to let me know what you think 🙂

I think it’s safe to say I’m on a bit of a contour binge at the minute 🙂 My last review was a round up of some of my favourite budget friendly powder contour palettes, which you can catch here if you missed it. This post is going to be all about the new Catrice All Round Contouring Palette.

Catrice All Round Contour PaletteIf you know Catrice they already have a concealer/correcting palette in the same vein as this. I never felt the need to pick that one up, the contour palette on the other hand, had to be mine. I went everywhere looking for this and was sold out everywhere. I finally stumbled across it in a local pharmacy a little while ago. It seems the Catrice All Over Contour Palette is in high demand. And at €4.50 for a cream contour and highlighting palette, I guess I can see why 🙂

The Palette comes with 5 cream shades.

irish beauty bloggerThere’s a matte ashy brown contouring shade, a warmer contouring shade (that I use for bronzing and it works great). There’s a peachy and a more yellow undertone matte concealer/highlighting colour. And then finally at the far right of the Catrice All Round Contour Palette there’s a light cream shimmering shade.

Here they are swatched on my arm from left to right.

beauty blog site irelandAnd a more up close look at the swatches.

irish makeup and beauty blogtop irish beauty blogHonestly, I am so impressed with the Catrice All Round Contouring Palette. More affordable brands really seem to struggle with the cream contour and highlighting medium. Catrice, for me have hit it out of the park. The pigment is strong, the texture is light and creamy without being oily and all of the shades blend really well into the skin. After blending, you are left with no excess residue or shininess. I’ve worn all the shades numerous times and didn’t get any creasing or oxidising. I do have oily skin though and always set creams with powders.

The lighter matte shades can even be used for concealing, I think, as they are so pigmented. I love using the shimmery highlighter colour as a base for powder highlight, but if you have normal to dry skin, it is a beautiful highlight on its own along the cheekbones and in the inner corners of the eyes, even on the brow bone. I love that you get a warm and a cool contour shade aswell because then you have the choice of both depending on your skin tone.

I have nothing really negative to say about the Catrice All Round Contouring Palette. It’s so affordable and all the shades do exactly what you want them to do.

If I was being really picky I would make one of the lighter matte shades in the palette a little lighter, so paler skin tones (like myself) would benefit more from their highlighting effect. Maybe if this palette is a success, Catrice might bring out a lighter and a darker version…just a thought 🙂

Have you tried it yet?

I’d love to know what you think.

Here’s my first ever Youtube video! It’s a speeded through Get Ready With Me. I love zoning out and watching these, and on the plus side it meant less talking for me 🙂 It’s not perfect, but sure neither am I.

Thanks so much for watching and if you like it please be sure to subscribe here. That would make my day…my year in fact, can you tell this is a big step for me? 🙂

There’s a list of all the products I used in the info box of the video too, so if you see something you like they’re all listed in order pretty much.

Let me know what you think and also what videos you like to watch yourself, I am going try create one a week on my channel, but I will also do an accompanying blogpost with any extra details and of course a bit of waffle 🙂

I am on a bit of a budget roll at the minute, I don’t know what has gotten into me…maybe the post Christmas poorness 🙂 This post is going to be about budget contour palettes, that I have and use in my makeup collection. Contouring has come such a long way in the makeup world, it used to be a drag industry secret and now most of us do some form of it on a daily basis. I know it’s not for everyone, but personally I love a bit of chiselling, anything to make my chubby chops look more defined 🙂

I chose 3 contour palettes to showcase in this post:

budget contour palettes

First up is the newest of the bunch, the Catrice Prime And Fine Professional Contouring palette.

catrice prime and fine contour paletteThis comes in different shades which is very handy, I have the colour 010 Ashy Radiance.

irish beauty bloggerbeauty blog irelandAshy is the important word here, especially for paler skin. A powder with a grey undertone, creates more of a shadow so in theory looks more natural. I really like this palette. The highlighter is more on the subtle side, so good if you just want to add a hint of a glow to the cheekbones. The contour side is soft, pigmented and blends well in the skin.

irish makeup and beauty bloggerThis will set you back €4.50.

Next up is the Seventeen Define & Conquer Contour Kit

seventeen define & conquerThis is a little different as both of the shades in this contour palette are matte.

makeup blog irelandI like this take on it because the ‘highlight’ shade can double up as a setting powder for lighter skinned gals and then works as a subtle more brightening shade maybe under the eyes for darker skinned lovelies.

The contour shade is a little more on the warm side, so this would double up as an all over matte bronzer shade as well as getting away with being a contouring colour.

makeup and beauty blog irelandYou can buy the Seventeen Define & Conquer palette in Boots and it costs €8.49, but they are always on special.

My last choice I think is my favourite and is the most pocket friendly of them all. The W7 Hollywood Bronze & Glow.

w7 hollywood bronze & glowIt bares a bit of a resemblance to a much more expensive contour palette, right? 🙂

top irish beauty blogThis little duo resides in my handbag and it gets so much use. The contour shade does have a sheen and a warm undertone to it, but it’s soft and blends out really well on the skin so you can still get away with it for contouring. I adore the highlight shade. It’s a really pretty golden shimmer, not at all bitty or glittery. I use it on my cheekbones, on my lids even and it’s a lovely inner corner highlight too.

top irish beauty bloggerAnd the best part? It’s €3.75. Cara Pharmacy sell them online here

Three contour palettes for three decent prices. What do you think? Are you a contouring queen or not really into it? I’d love to know your thoughts.
