I’ve only had this little puppy for around a week now, but I think it’s safe to say I’m kinda in love! Essence have released two shades in their new liquid lipstick range, the other is a nude and wasn’t in Penneys so I couldn’t get my hands on it…yet :p
First off, this liquid lipstick is like a lipgloss/lipstick hybrid. It has a glossy finish, but it is pretty darn pigmented.
We know Essence as a really budget friendly brand, that you’ll find in your local chemists and Penneys stores, but I really think the brand is upping their game and the products they are releasing of late would rival alot of the brands we gravitate towards everyday in Boots or Superdrug.
‘Show Off’ is is what I can only describe as a corally red colour.
I think it’s one of those shades that will suit a multitude of colourings and complexions and is pretty good at making the nashers look a bit brighter too which is always a nice bonus when it comes to picking a lip colour.
‘Show Off’ lasts really well on the lips too. Of course it has a lipgloss consistency so it won’t be staying on like your matte lip creams. However, it’s not sticky in texture, and it does wear off well, so you’re not left with creases of colour on your lips…cos that ain’t cute 🙂
If you don’t necessarily like the opacity of ‘Show Off’ it can be patted down on the lips and worn as a sheerer shade. It looks pretty gorge like that too!
Overall I am a huge fan of the Essence Liquid Lipsticks. So much so I think I need more in my life. So Essence, if you’re reading, bring out more shades pronto 🙂
‘Show Off’ will set you back €3.09, not bad at all right?
I am on a bit of shopping go slow since I have two holidays lined up for this year. But the summer is nearly at an end already, can you believe it? So I had to make a pitt stop into Penneys, I wouldn’t be Irish if I didn’t would I really? And I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t grab a little bit of makeup while I was having a nosey.
It’s nothing too crazy, but thought I would share in case you are in the market for some affordable bits 🙂
First up, I got the other two Penneys PS Love lip liners that I don’t own. I have the brow shade 06 already and d’ya know what? They’re bloody good! And for €1.50 they’re even better!!
05 is the red and 07 is the pink
Here they are swatched on my hand.
From the Penneys range, I also got one of their Matte Lipstick Crayon’s to try aswell. This was €2.50.
It’s in the shade 03, which is pretty much a blue toned hot pink.
I also grabbed two things from the Catrice stand, I think I was very restrained, things could have gone alot worse for my bank balance 🙂
First up is their new (I think) Deluxe Trio Eyeshadow in 030 Rose Vintouch.
It has three baked shades for creating a purple smoky eye.
Here they are swatched from left to right.
I got one of their illuminating blushes in 030 ‘Kiss Me Ken’ too. I was eyeing up these blushes online the other day.
This one is pink but with a darker pink gradient on the top and bottom which I thought looked interesting. It has a gold sparkle running through it too.
Here it is swatched on the back of my hand.
I also picked up lots of clothes bits and pieces which I snapped about over the weekend, so if you want to see more about them, come say hello over there. My user-name is Beautynook.
I will show you these shoes though. These are from the Penneys limited edition range, and they are the cutest pair of heels I own!!
There you have it, a closer inspection of my Penneys and Catrice bits and bobs. I think I was pretty good what do you think?
As always thanks for reading, really appreciate it 🙂
Ok, I’ll hold my hands up I’ve never actually used the Benefit Gimme Brow so I can’t really compare. But seeing it in action online and on other people I reckon the Essence Make Me Brow Eyebrow Gel is a really good…alternative to it 🙂 And the best part is, it will only set you back 3 quid!!
I picked mine up in Penneys/Primark but I am sure you can get this in any place that stocks Essence. I got the darker shade but there is a light one, which I might get aswell, to have, just in case 🙂
The packaging itself is tiny and so is the brush which is awesome because you can really use it to catch onto every eyebrow hair. The gel itself is coloured and has tiny fibres on it to help bulk up the brows you already have. So you can use it on it’s own for a naturally enhanced look. Great for days when you just don’t feel like doing much but you want to look somewhat put together.
It doesn’t go hard or flakey which is a really important element. That is one of my pet peeves with brow gel. Your caterpillars still feel soft and…hair like when the gel has dried.
I personally have a hate relationship with my damn brows so I would usually use the Make Me Brow over powder or pencil or even both depending on my brow mood. But I have used it below on a clean brow to show you the subtle but definite difference it gives.
Before Make Me Brow Application
After Make Me Brow Application
Can you see it? Don’t judge my brow it’s the best one I have 🙂
Honestly, I cannot say anything bad about the Essence Make Me Brow. Its such a great little product with a great little price to boot. If you’ve been toying with getting the Benefit Gimme Brow, give the Make Me Brow a go first, you’ve nothing to loose sure 🙂

I picked up some bits not too long ago on a bit of a shopping spree from Catrice Cosmetics and I have been loving them and using them alot. I thought I would share some of them with you in case you are in the market for some afforable lovelies 🙂
First up is their All Matt Plus Shine Control Makeup.
I got the shade 015 Vanilla Beige which is a pretty good neutral match for my pink toned skin.
It has a light coverage and is shiny when you first apply but dulls down as it dried into your skin.
This is a good foundation, it lasts well (powdered) on my oily skin and doesn’t oxidise. It isn’t too drying or cakey and it blends really well. It is also buildable for us girls who like a more medium coverage.
Next up on my Catrice love fest is one of their Ultimate Shine Gel Colour Lipsticks.
This is in the shade 080 Russian Violette. These are like a hybrid lipstick lipgloss. They are not sticky and are really pigmented. They feel balmy on the lips so good for days when your lips are not in tip top condition. Also I am in love with this colour.
It’s a purpley pinky lipstick of loveliness and I have been picking it up so much over the past few weeks. It’s so easy to throw on and lasts really well.
My last two Catrice finds are two of their Liquid Metal Eyeshadows.
I threw these into my basket because they looked cool in the pan, I have to be honest. They have a cool wavy effect to them and I couldn’t say no :p
The first one is called 070 Gold Leaf Me and is a kind of pewter cool toned gold colour.
The second one is called 100 What Do You Sea? My description of this would be nearly a green toned blue, if this exists? It is blue but there’s an element of green in there too.
The name Liquid Metal, sums these shadows up quite well I think. They are opaque when built up but you can also just use them for a wash of colour on the lids too. I have used them wet aswell and it brings the metal element out in the colour even more. They are smooth and they blend too which is not always the case for cheaper shadows.
Catrice have really upped their game in the last couple of years. They have such a diverse range of products for all types of makeup users. Everything is reasonably priced, and they are constantly bringing out new collections and products to keep us wanting more. I know I do 🙂
January has been and gone, we are officially into 2015, where is the time going? The end of a month means monthly favourites in my world, and so I am here to divulge some of the things I have been loving and using throughout the month of January 2015.
I firstly have something I have already prattled on about here so I’ll keep it short.
You can read the full review if you want my full opinions on Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Nude Foundation, and to see it on the skin. This has been the only foundation I have pretty much used in the month of January though. It is cheap, has good medium coverage, long lasting…and I like it! That pretty much sums it up 🙂
Up next I have one of my Christmas presents.
My Accurist rose gold and black leather watch. I have been wearing this nearly every day since I got it. I think it’s very classic but understated and seems to go with everything. It’s also light and comfortable. It is actually a man’s watch, but I like bigger watches so this appeals to me. I want one of these in every colour 🙂
I am a big believer in washing your face thoroughly before bed with a cleanser or a face wash whatever you use. I wear waterproof mascara and liner alot and these can be a pain and a bit messy to take off with a cloth or you hands so I like to use an oil based makeup remover just on my eyes to make washing my face then a little easier.
This Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover was on sale in Boots. I think it was less than €3, so picked it up to try. It does a really great job. I don’t even look when I am doing it. I just soak two cotton pads in it and gently rub my eyes with. It does the job really great. It’s also meant to condition your lashes which is a plus. If you are looking for an affordable paraben free range, give the Botanics in Boots a look. I really like the face wash from this range too, I really recommend them.
I think I mentioned this in a favourites post gone by, but I am throwing it again because I have not been able to get enough of it this month.
This is the Yonka Invigorating Dry Skin Toner, which is an aerosol toner. Do you like the Caudalie Beauty Elixir? Well then you’ll love this. It smells sooooo nice and earthy and it is really calming and hydrating on the skin. It contains lovely things like Lavender and Thyme (hence the smell) .It’s pricey but I need to buy a full sized bottle of it!
I have a couple of duo items up next.
The first is the Soap & Glory Whipped Clean Shower Butter and then these funny little exfoliating mittens that I randomly picked up in good oul Penney’s. These two together for me are a match made in heaven. The wash is really emollient and moisturising on the skin and feels really luxurious. I’ve found using this with the exfoliating mittens really nice, as although I am getting rid of any dead skin cells with the abrasive gloves, the wash keeps the skin feeling nourished and looked after. The Whipped Cream smells of almonds which I am not a fan of, but I suck it up 🙂
My next duo are for the lips.
This is Rimmel’s lip liner in Eastend Snob and on of the Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick Charms in Bitch Perfect. How pretty and tiny are these lipsticks? We both got the little trio of lippies for Christmas. Mine is mashed a bit, sorry. I did that after a few alcoholic beverages and didn’t twist the bullet back down properly.
I am not really a nude lip person very often. But just something about this duo made me feel comfortable. Perhaps because it’s more of a pinky nude, so I don’t feel completely washed out. I’m pale enough as it is 🙂 Eastend Snob is a great liner to have if you are looking to slightly over draw your lips or you just want to even out your lip line.
My last favourite for this month is the Fuchsia Pro Collection Palette.
I have been reaching for this so much of late. It’s great that an Irish brand are doing these pans that you can put into a zpalette and customise the colours to suit yourself. I had never really used the Fuchsia brand until we were kindly gifted these at a blogger Christmas Party. This one was prefilled, I did not choose the colours, but the colours in it are lovely. There is something for everything and everyone from cool tones to warm, neutrals to brights and shimmery to matte. The colour pay off is really nice and they blend well too. They also come in an array of colours and finishes. I will be investing in more for sure.
There you have it. January summed up in beauty products. That’s what we are here for, right?
