Catrice Glamour Doll Volume Waterproof Mascara

Ok, you’re going to have to forgive me, because it’s time for another mascara rave πŸ™‚

Catrice Glamour Doll Volume Waterproof MascaraThis is the Catrice Glamour Doll Volume Waterproof Mascara, and I am in love! I saw the lovely Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup talking about this a while ago. I kinda feel like I have similar mascara needs to her. She always goes for a waterproof formula as do I, she wants the curl to last and wants some length…so do I, we’re practically lash sisters right?

Obviously when I saw her talk about it, the Catrice Glamour Doll Volume Waterproof Mascara went on my to buy list. And as we know here in Ireland Catrice is readily available in pharmacies and Penneys around these parts and it doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg, so even a better reason to give it a try. To be fair myself and Catrice have been getting on like a house on fire of late and I am thoroughly enjoying the brand.

I think the easiest way to review a mascara is to just show you in action. I have blabbed on about my lashes being pretty lame many times so I won’t bore you with the details, but my lashes need a bit of oomph and curl to look semi decent. Mascara would definitely be one of my desert island products.

Here they are with no product on them at all.

Here they are curled with an eyelash curlers, I have straight lashes and no mascara really gives me the full curl I want so this is a necessary step in my routine. It just gives them an extra lift, which I don’t have naturally.

Here, I have added a few coats of the Catrice Glamour Doll to one of my eyes.

Catrice Glamour Doll Waterproof Mascara (9)Catrice Glamour Doll Waterproof Mascara (10)You can see it makes a pretty significant difference to my lashes right?

The Glamour Doll Volume Waterproof mascara has a small plastic wand, with small spikes tips to it, I think it makes for really easy application, and you can get right into the root of the lashes with it. I layer it too and it doesn’t become overly clumpy and leave you with spider lashes either.

Catrice Glamour Doll Volume Waterproof Mascara

So here’s the mascara added to both eyes top and bottom.

catrice mascaracatrice beauty blog reviewI’m even happy to add a slick of the Glamour Eyes to my bottom lashes, and it lasts quite well. Usually I can be a bit of a mascara ponce and tend to stick to a tubing mascara on my bottom lashes, but the wand on this one isn’t too large so it applies pretty easy to the lower lashes and has yet to smudge on me either.

If you struggle with a curl lasting in your lashes like me and you want some extra length, with a bit of added volume too, I really recommend giving the Catrice Glamour Doll Volume Waterproof Mascara a go.

And the best part, it will set you back €4.99, not bad right?

Budget Undereye Concealing with Flormar & Catrice

I gave first impressions on both of these products that were new to me together over on Snapchat (I’m ‘Beautynook’ over there) a couple of weeks ago and I’ve used them that way everyday since.

Budget Beauty Concealer

They are the Flormar Perfect Coverage Concealer and the Catrice Liquid Camouflage High Coverage Concealer. Both of these concealers were under a fiver individually. I bought them both respectively to try but realised I really like using them together, so that’s why they are getting a joint review.

Now I know you’re thinking Gemma, why are using two products to conceal your lovely under circles? That’s a great question thanks for asking πŸ™‚ Let me show you.

When using the two of these for concealing I use the Flormar Perfect Coverage first.

flormar perfect cover

I picked up the shade 01 Fair Ivory and it works well for my Mac NC20 skintone.

undereye correction

I like the applicator on this product too. It has like a paddle shaped doe-foot applicator, that works really easily under the eyes.

My under eyes without any concealer on (I do have foundation on though) looks a bit like this.

irish makeup and beauty blogbeauty blog beautynook

You can see I definitely have some blue tones under there as well some pigmentation.

I use the Flormar Perfect Coverage first because it has a salmon tone to it.

irish beauty and makeup blog

And then I blend it in using whatever synthetic brush I have to hand.

beautynook makeup blog

It’s really lightweight and easy to blend.

irish blog

You can see the finished result here, it does it jobs well and conceals, without caking or looking too obvious.

Then, I pull out the Catrice Liquid Camouflage High Coverage Concealer.Catrice Liquid Camouflage

I got this in the shade 010 Porcelain, it is a pretty light shade, this is good for under the eyes as you want to highlight that area just a touch.

Catrice Ireland

I pop a layer (or two) of this over top. It has a lightweight formula that blends easily into the skin, but still manages to do it’s job of concealing and brightening really well.

Under eye circles

You can see this has more of a skin coloured tone to it. And I do the same, just blend it down in a triangle motion and then up across the tops of my cheeks with a synthetic brush.

beautynook irish beauty blog

By all means you can just use the Flormar Perfect Coverage on it’s own or even the Catrice Liquid Camouflage and be good to go. Separately they conceal well and do not crease under my eyes, as well as not settling into any fine lines or making any dry patches more apparent. I think alot of the cheaper brands struggle with concealer, so to have found two really good ones at the same time is a revelation!

I like using both these products together because, the Flormar works great for the pigmentation and darkness and then the Catrice really brightens the under eye area. Together they make me look more awake…and alive :p

It’s really love at first swipe for me with these πŸ™‚ You can buy the Flormar Perfect Coverage from SimplyFoxy here or in any stockists around the country. The Catrice Liquid Camouflage is online here from Sam McCauley’s or again you can pick it up from stands nationwide including Penneys.

Rimmel Match Perfection Oily Skin Review

Rimmel have made some of my very favourite affordable foundations. Their Lasting Finish Nude which I reviewed here not too long ago would probably make it into my top five favourite ever foundations, so yes I’m a big fan πŸ™‚

So when they release a new on odds are I’ll pick it up and give it a go.

Rimmel Match Perfection is the newest kid on the foundation shelf.

Rimmel Match Perfection review

I have the first Rimmel Match Perfection and to be honest I can’t really tell much difference between the two of them.

The older version has spf of 18, the newer one has spf of 20. They’re both medium coverage and give the skin a satin finish.

The newer Rimmel Match Perfection claims to blur pores, I don’t really see it doing that to my skin and I have poresΒ  a plenty. It also claims to cover dark circles too, can’t really say it does that either, you would definitely need a separate concealer, unless you have great skin of course.

However, I do think it’s a really nice foundation, just not if you particularly oily like myself.

It goes onto my skin nicely. I use a buffing brush to apply it. That tends to be my weapon of choice for foundation because I can use the dense brush to really buff the product in. This particular brush is from a set I bought off ebay for really cheap and I have to say I am really enjoying them. I have the shade 100 Ivory.

makeup and beauty blog

As I said it has a lovely satin finish, and it does claim to be a hydrating foundation, so I don’t expect it be as long lasting as a foundation made for oilier skin. I don’t always like a complete matte finish to my skin though so I do like to give some of the more hydrating foundations a try in hopes they don’t oxidise on me.

Here is my skin with nothing on it:

Irish beauty blog beautynookHere is a good layer of the Rimmel Match Perfection applied:

Then here’s my face with all my makeup finished and the foundation powdered into place. I really like the finish.

beautynook beauty blog

After about three hours of wear, this is what my skin looks like:

beautynook irish beauty blogI’m a bit of a shiny mess!Β  I don’t mind having to powder my nose after a few hours of wear, but with this I would have to powder my whole face after a couple of hours, not really practical.Ah well. I’m sure this will be a lovely foundation on you drier folk out there, but for me it’s not meant to be πŸ™

You can pick up the Rimmel Match Perfection in Boots or any place that stocks Rimmel and it will set you back €9.99.

Have you tried it? Let me know how it fares on your skin πŸ™‚

Cocoa Brown Instant Tan Bronzing Gel

Yep they’ve finally gone and done it! Cocoa Brown have released an instant tan! They’ve answered our tanning prayers πŸ™‚

Cocoa Brown Marissa Carter

Us bloggers got all dolled up and headed to The Shelbourne this past Sunday where we were treated to a lovely and pink afternoon by Marissa and the Cocoa Brown girls. We were showered with gifts and the new Cocoa Brown Instant Tan Bronzing Gels were unleashed on us.

Marissa has created two different Instant Tan Bronzing Gels. One is matte.

Cocoa Brown Instan Tan Bronzing Gel Matte

And the other has shimmer running through it.

Cocoa Brown Instant Tan Bronze Gel Shimmer

Here’s the matte one Bronzing Gel on my hand.

irish beauty blog

And here you can see the matte and the shimmer bronzing gel side by side.

irish beauty blog beautynook

They both differ in consistency slightly, the matte one is more of a fluid gel, where as the one with the shimmer is, well more of a gel texture πŸ™‚

Both of the Cocoa Brown Instant Tan Bronzing Gel’s apply to the skin super easy, there’s not much faffing about and they dry really quickly too. You can apply as many layers of them as you need to build up the colour you want without the product going patchy as they are a thin gel and blend really well.Β  Added bonus they smell really nice too πŸ™‚

Obviously, I’ve only had these babies since Sunday so I haven’t given them a full road test yet, but first impressions are really good.

I applied them on both my legs to give you a better look at the finish you are left with. I applied with my hands, but of course you can use a mitt if you want too. (Cocoa Brown have just brought out a double sided one fyi πŸ™‚

Here’s my pasty leg with nothing on it.

I applied a couple of coats of the matte instant tan.

Then it’s time for the shimmer instant tan. Again, my other pasty leg :p

irish makeup blog

Then a couple of coats of the shimmer tan.

irish makeup and beauty blog beautynook

The shimmer is hard to pick up on my camera, but there’s alot of shimmer going on, I promise.

irish beauty blog

It really is tanning in an instant, and the product is splash proof, thank god with unpredictable weather like ours πŸ™‚

I for one am so happy about these releases. I hold my hands up and admit I am such a lazy tanner, it’s one of my least favourite things to do, so I love a good instant tan, it just takes the effort out of it really. Also if you’re pale like me and your developing tan doesn’t always develop enough, it’s handy to have something like this in your beauty drawer for back up.

Cocoa Brown Instant Tan Bronzing Gel should be hitting the shelves in Penneys stores near you very soon or you can order from Cloud10beautyΒ  here. Β They will both be €6.99 for 150ml tube.

Will you be picking one or both of them up? Let me know what you think.

Essence All About Greys, All About Nudes Palettes

I have been talking alot about affordable makeup of late and I am LOVING it! It’s so great budget friendly brands are stepping up to the plate and bringing out products that we we are excited to use and talk about all the time!

This blogpost is going to be all about two of the three palettes Essence brought out not too long ago.

Essence All About Greys and All About Nudes Eyeshadow Palette (2)

The first one is the Essence ‘All About Greys’ palette.

Essence All About GreysI picked this up the same day I got the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette. It obviously doesn’t have as many shade choices but I just thought the colouring was similar so it could be a cheaper alternative.

So as you can see, there is eight shades in total. They are all cool toned and they all lend themselves to a dark and grey smoky eye just like the Naked Smoky.

They are all shimmery shades, except for the white on the top far left and the black on the top far right, so I do think if you are doing a look with this palette you do need some sort of matte transitional shade to help you along your way, even if you just use your bronzer. The shadows themselves are pigmented, they are soft to the touch, and they do blend, although it will take you a while to do it. Here they are swatched below:

Bottom Line

So what about the Essence ‘All About Nudes’ version of the palette?

Essence All About Nudes

These shades are much warmer, and I think personally it’s generally a more wearable palette.

There’s more mattes within the eight shadows in this one, so you’re less likely to need another palette to help you along if you are creating a look with it.

Here they are swatched below:

irish beauty blog beautynook

beauty blog reviewOverall, I think these palettes are pretty awesome for their €4.99 price tag. I will say if your lids are in any way oily, you’ll need a primer no doubt about it. I think the shadows do need to be worked with more than maybe some other ones on the market. Some of the shades (particularly the shimmers) actually go on so much nicer and vibrant with your finger or a damp brush, but I think this tip helps with alot of shadows we may own so I don’t hold that against Essence too much. There is fall out, so be weary of that too when applying.

I mix and match these palettes with others I have in my collection, but they do get used and I do reach for them.

There is another palette in this ‘All About’ range that is more bronzed and that looks really nice too, if you prefer a more bronzey look. After playing with these two, I would be more than happy to fork out a fiver for that one too!

As always thanks for reading and I hoped this helped if you were undecided πŸ™‚

Essence Liquid Lipstick in ‘Show Off’

I’ve only had this little puppy for around a week now, but I think it’s safe to say I’m kinda in love! Essence have released two shades in their new liquid lipstick range, the other is a nude and wasn’t in Penneys so I couldn’t get my hands on it…yet :p

First off, this liquid lipstick is like a lipgloss/lipstick hybrid. It has a glossy finish, but it is pretty darn pigmented.

essence liquid lipstick show off

We know Essence as a really budget friendly brand, that you’ll find in your local chemists and Penneys stores, but I really think the brand is upping their game and the products they are releasing of late would rival alot of the brands we gravitate towards everyday in Boots or Superdrug.

‘Show Off’Β  is is what I can only describe as a corally red colour.

essence show off beauty blog

I think it’s one of those shades that will suit a multitude of colourings and complexions and is pretty good at making the nashers look a bit brighter too which is always a nice bonus when it comes to picking a lip colour.

beautynook irish beauty blog

‘Show Off’ lasts really well on the lips too. Of courseΒ  it has a lipgloss consistency so it won’t be staying on like your matte lip creams. However, it’s not sticky in texture, and it does wear off well, so you’re not left with creases of colour on your lips…cos that ain’t cute πŸ™‚

Essence Liquid Lipstick Show Off

If you don’t necessarily like the opacity of ‘Show Off’ it can be patted down on the lips and worn as a sheerer shade. It looks pretty gorge like that too!

Overall I am a huge fan of the Essence Liquid Lipsticks. So much so I think I need more in my life. So Essence, if you’re reading, bring out more shades pronto πŸ™‚

‘Show Off’ will set you back €3.09, not bad at all right?
