Another month another bundle of random products and things. Yep, it’s time for my August favourites for 2016 πŸ™‚ Summer is just about to come to an end. I am completely ok with Autumn coming, Winter is another story though…bleh!

irish beauty blog beautynook

Anyways…my August Favourites bring a random array of goodies your way. If you are an eagle eyes reader you may notice that there is a makeup brush in my hand in the cover photo. First off well done for noticing πŸ™‚ And also it’s nearly become a tradition for me now to lose chunks of footage from my monthly favourites videos and the brush clip was the unlucky one that just disappeared off of my camera. But, it’s a dual ended blending brush from Blank Canvas Cosmetics with the E26 on one end and the E25 on the other. It’s on their website here and I really like it, it’s so handy!

The rest of my favourites look a bit like this.

August Favourites

You can buy the Adidas Superstar runners from JD Sports here. I’m nearly sure John paid €88 for my ones in June for my birthday but the listed price here is €95.

I have a whole post about the Becca x Jaclyn Hill Palette here.

You can buy the Dermalogica Hyrda Blur Primer here.

I have a video about the Garnier Micellar Oil infused Cleansing Water here too.

The Guns n Roses T-shirt is from the men’s department in H&M. I found it on the website here. It’s actually €14.99, I got my pricing wrong, apologies.

And then finally, my random phone ring thing πŸ™‚ I got it from eBay here and I regret nothing :).

August Favourites

So there you have it, if you need anymore info, by all means just ask. You can of course watch the video above on the website or you can watch it directly from youtube by clicking the link here.

I hope you have a healthy and happy September. Thanks as always for the support.

I thought rather than just tell you about the Garnier Micellar Oil Infused Cleansing Water, I would make a video showing in action.

Garnier Micellar Oil Infused Cleansing Water

This is the first time I’ve ever taken my makeup off in video form so it felt a little strange, not going to lie πŸ™‚

Garnier Micellar Oil Infused Cleansing Water

Garnier say of their new Micellar Water on the Boots website: ‘Is Garnier Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing Water Right For Me? Yes, if you are looking for an efficient, yet gentle cleanser that removes all make-up (even waterproof), impurities and dirt and leaves skin feeling nourished. Suitable even for dry, sensitive skin. Why Is It Different? Micellar Oil-Infused Cleansing Water is an easy way to remove even waterproof make-up, and cleanse and nourish the feel of skin, in 1 step without rinsing. How Does It Work? For the 1st time Garnier Micellar technology is formulated with oils. The micelles (cleansing agents) capture impurities like a magnet & lift away dirt from the skin, whilst the oils instantly dissolve all types of make-up. The Results:Perfectly cleansed, nourished feeling skin without rubbing or rinsing.’

In this video I show you the Garnier Micellar Oil Infused Cleansing Water in action on a full face of makeup including waterproof mascara and gel eyeliner. As well as giving you my two cents on it. I’ll give you a hint though….

irish beauty blog beautynook

I think this picture give you my true feelings, right? πŸ™‚

The Garnier Micellar Oil Infused Cleansing Water is always on special it seems. I’ve seen it in Penneys, Dunnes and even Tesco discounted and it currently €5.53 on Boots online here. The normal price for a 400ml bottle is usually €8.29.

As always you can watch by clicking on the video above or you can head straight over to watch it on my Youtube channel here.

Have you used the Garnier Micellar Oil Infused Cleansing Water? Are you a fan? I would love to know your thoughts πŸ™‚

Thanks for watching.

Cushion foundation and products have been getting alot of press of late. They are definitely not a new phenomenon, originating in Korea, but now they are making their way slowly to our shores. In Asia, cushion foundations would be deemed a fusion of makeup and skincare in one, so kind of like a bb or cc cream but in compact form. This obviously makes them easier for travel too. The cushion is supposed to make the formula of the foundation lighter and offers you a lighter application of the product inside. So there’s a quick synopsis on cushion foundation (in case you ever wondered), now let’s get into my thoughts on the new L’Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation πŸ™‚

L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion FoundationWithin the L’Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation compact, you get an applicator sponge in the top layer.

L'Oreal Cushion FoundationYou then have an air tight lid to help prevent bacteria getting into the actual cushion and the foundation within it and obviously to prevent the liquid spilling out.

L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion FoundationThe L’Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation is made in the same vein as the original Korean cushion foundations (and it’s also made in Korea too), so it has a light weight, water infused formula which contains SPF 29. It has a sheer coverage, but you can build it up to a more medium coverage if you want. That’s how I personally wear it.

top beauty blog irelandIt is said you get the best application from a cushion foundation using the sponge that comes with it. I have tested it with it and it does work, but I just find it a longer process and a bit of a pain. So, like a rebel, I use my foundation brush to apply it. Using the brush allows me to buff the foundation into the skin more too and fill in any deeper pores on my face (which I have plenty of).

I have shade number 1 which is porcelain and this is a good match for my Mac NC20 skin. If your skin is lighter than mine though, there’s really not an option for you which is a bit annoying.

beauty blog irelandbauty blogger irelandThere is 7 shades in total. I would recommend swatching in store before making a choice though.

Here’s the L’Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation in action.

I just dab my brush super lightly onto the sponge.

irish beauty bloggerAnd then apply it just as I would my normal foundation.

Before Application

top irish beauty blogThe finish to me, is more satin than dewy and the formula feels really lightweight and comfortable on the skin. It knocks back redness and evens out the skin tone but in a natural way.

top irish beauty bloggertop irish beauty websiteIt obviously doesn’t last as well on me throughout the day like my ride or die L’Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation (there’s a full review of that here if you’re curious), but considering it’s a lightweight, satin finish, water based foundation with SPF 29, it lasts pretty well on my oily skin with primer and powder on top. I start to get some shine on my t zone after maybe the third hour, but if doesn’t oxidise or look unsightly, so I would probably wait until the fourth or fifth hour of wear before powdering.

Overall, I personally really like the L’Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation. I am finding it a great addition to my Summer makeup and getting alot of use out of it. At €21.99 it is very much at the higher price end for ‘drugstore’ foundation, so it really just depends on whether you buy into the whole cushion foundation thing and if would work for your skin needs, so I hope I’ve given you a bit of insight into it anyway πŸ™‚

You can buy the L’Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation from Boots instore or online here.

I would love to know your thoughts on it and if you’ve tried any other cushion foundations. Keep me in the loop! πŸ™‚

I have a separate post coming on the Glam Bronze Cushion De Soleil. I just thought this post would be way too long talking about both of them, so keep an eye out for that!

I’m a big fan of Image Skincare. I’ve used a fair few of their products over the years. It’s definitely not the cheapest out there, but with it being a salon grade brand, you do get what you pay for.

The Image I Conceal Flawless Foundation has gotten a bit of a a spruce up. The packaging is more modern and sleek than previously. I’ve been using this bad boy for a good chunk of time now, so I thought it was time for me to give my thoughts on it and show you it in action. Readers beware, there is some no makeup pictures below πŸ™‚

image skincare irelandI really like the new packaging. It has a brushed clear plastic casing and then you twist the top to reveal the pump.

image skincare review

According to Image: ‘I Conceal is the all-in-one illuminating, lightweight and water-resistant foundation, which heals and conceals to reveal a healthier, flawless complexion every day. It is available in 6 different colours – Porcelain, Natural, Beige, Suede, Toffee and Mocha – so there is one suitable for everybody. This daily healthy skin foundation is mineral based, paraben free, is breathable and oxygenates and heals the skin. It gives maximum coverage without a heavy appearance and gives a dewy glow to all skins. I-Conceal Flawless Foundation is SPF 30 and provides broad spectrum UVA / UVB protection. This Image Skincare Flawless Foundation is indicated for daily use on all skin types and highly effective for the following:

  • Pigmentation
  • Redness & Rosacea
  • Acne & Acne Scarring
  • Post-Cosmetic Injections
  • Bruising & Scaring
  • Post-treatment
  • Post-Laser
  • Post-Surgery

In Gemma terms the Image I Conceal Flawless Foundation is really rather nice! With my skin being on the oilier side, I find anything with a high SPF is usually too greasy for my skin and it either slips and slides on my face or makes my makeup slip and slide. This means I end up not using an SPF which is so so bad I know, or using a foundation with a much lower amount, that’s probably not really doing much for my skin at all!

Image I Conceal Flawless Foundation

I have the colour ‘Natural’ which is a shade or maybe two too dark for me, but I make it work by taking it down the neck. ‘Porcelain’ would be a better match.

This was a press sample though so I wasn’t colour matched for it.

irish beauty blogger Although the consistency is on the thicker side, it does blend really well too so I can kind of get away with it. πŸ™‚ So here it is in action on my mug.

About ten minutes after application

top irish beauty bloggerThe I Conceal to me has a medium to full coverage depending on how much you apply or what tool you use. It covers redness really well and I find I use less concealer on blemishes afterwards. It has a more dewy finish, but it also sets so it doesn’t feel oily or leave a residue behind. As I do have oily skin, I tend to powder down my makeup or go for more matte finish foundations just because they last longer. I don’t mind a bit of luminosity at all if it doesn’t make the natural oils come through. And I concur that for me the Image I Conceal really doesn’t. Actually after this application, I wasn’t going anywhere so I didn’t add any more makeup after taking the photos and went about my day. It took a good few hours before what I like to call the ugly shine came through πŸ™‚

I can’t speak too much about it’s restorative qualities as my skin is not healing from anything major. I do suffer from spots though and it does seem to ease the redness and any inflammation which is awesome!

I honestly can’t fault the Image I Conceal Flawless Foundation. It’s skincare, SPF 30 and good coverage mineral foundation in one! They say it works for all skin types and usually I would kind of guffaw at a statement like that, but the fact that it gives a dewy finish, but has really great staying power…dare I say, I kind of agree with them!

I think the Image I Conceal Flawless Foundation retails for about €48 so it’s definitely a splurge. If it does interest you though, pop into a salon that sells Image and ask for a sample. Renaissance have a list of stockists here.

The Essence Longlasting Eye Pencil is a little bargain of a find. I picked these up randomly in Penneys when I was really just looking for new things to try.

irish beauty blog essence longlasting lip pencil

I picked up three shades in the Essence Longlasting Eye Pencil range but they have a fair few colours to choose from, even a nude one now which is handy. You can see all the colours here on the Essence website. Like their lipliners I reviewed here on Beautynook not too long ago. I am sure I will end up with all the colours in my collection at some stage πŸ™‚

The shades I have are:

19 Hot Scorch.

The Essence Longlasting Eye Pencils are a retractable pencil in a plastic casing which I personally prefer over the standard pencil format. The product itself is really soft, so glides on smoothly onto the skin. The colour pay off (as you can see from the swatches) is pretty great too! The formula does dry so you get good longevity out of it, even on the waterline, although they do last longer on the skin.

I honestly think these are a fab find for makeup novices and addicts alike. If you are looking to experiment with colour, these are a great way to begin too. And the best part? Like the lip liners, the Essence Longlasting Eye Pencil will set you back just under 2 euro! Not a bad deal at all, right? As I said, I got mine in Penneys, but I am sure any of the chemists who stock Essence would have these if they update their stands regularly. If you see them, give them a swatch and let me know what you think πŸ™‚

As always, thanks for stopping by!

I’m off on a little breakaway for the Christmas period πŸ™‚ Obviously being a beauty junkie, the products I bring, are quite important to me. This post is going to cover all of the skincare with the added daily bits and pieces I will use. Basically everything other than makeup, I will cover all that in another post soon πŸ™‚

First up the skincare and body essentials.

Deodorant:

irish beauty blog

I prefer a cream deodorant. And I think cream and roll ons travel more safely too.

Toothpaste and toothbrush:

beverly hills toothpaste

I have a mini of one of my favourite toothpastes, the Beverly Hills Perfect White, that is actually black because it contains charcoal. I bloody loves this toothpaste and I have a matching toothbrush because I’m fancy that comes with a head cover on it which is so handy.

Bodywash:

the body shop

I have a mini Wild Argan Oil Shower Gel from The Body Shop. God I love minis, don’t you?

I’m bringing three body creams…extremely excessive I know, but they all have different uses.

I have a mini Atoderm moisturiser from Bioderma. I got this in a Bioderma Christmas skincare set that I reviewed here not too long ago. I’ll keep this for using anywhere that gets really dry.

bioderma

I’m going to bring one of the Nivea In Shower Body Moisturisers with me too, for everyday use.

nivea

This is the new one, that’s apparently for ‘firming’. It has little menthol massage beads in it though, so I think it will be good for the hotter weather. (we’re going to Lanzarote, so hoping it will be warmer than Ireland :).

The third moisturiser is a gradual daily bronzer from The Tan.

The Tan

I do not get a sun tan, I’m freckly and pale, so this will come in handy to keep me looking somewhat alive. I really like this one, it dries quickly and doesn’t make you stink too much.

As I am a paley, I am going to bring an instant tan too.

cocoa brownMy favourite at the minute which I have a review and demo of here is the shimmer version of Cocoa Brown’s new Instant Tan Bronzing Gel.

It’s such a handy tan and is water resistant. This will get alot of use.

I bought some fancy disposable razors because it’s Christmas and they were half off in Boots πŸ˜‰

irish beauty blog

Boring and a pain but necessary if the pins are going to be on display.

Sun protection will be really important too.

p20 sun protection

It will be hopefully in the 20’s in Spain, so I’m going to bring P20 SPF in Factor 30. This is water resistant for up to 10 hours and it soaks in well so it doesn’t add to the clammy feeling…I really hate feeling clammy πŸ™‚

For face SPF I’m bringing the Bioderma BB Cream.

irish beauty blogger

I’ve never used this before so I am hoping it doesn’t melt off my face. It contains SPF 30 and is anti redness so will hopefully camouflage my red cheeks if I over heat.

To wash my face, I am bringing the Ultra Brightening Cleanser from Neostrata.

Neostrata

I’ve only used this a couple of times, but so far I like it, and I thought bringing it with me would let me give it a try properly.

I have a mini eye makeup remover from Thalgo.

thalgo

This is an oily solution which is my favourite for eye makeup remover. I always use waterproof mascara so it’s a necessity.

For pre cleanser, I’m bringing a mini of the holy grail Bioderma Micellar Water.

bioderma micellar water

Perfect travel companion πŸ™‚

I have no night time eye cream to bring I’ll have to buy one in the airport but for daily use, The Body Shop Drops of Youth eye gel is coming.

irish beauty blog beautynook

I’ve been using this for a while now and really like it.

To tone I have a mini of one of my faves the Neostrata Oily Skin Solution.

neostrata oily skin solution

If you suffer with spots and have oily skin like me, this is such a brilliant product.

Again, because I’m high maintenance I am bring another toner. This will double as a facial mist and makeup setting spray too though. This is the La Roche Posay Serozinc.

la roche posay serozinc

I have a full review of this bad boy here if you want a more indepth description of it. It has become a skincare staple for me.

For night cream, I am bringing this cute mini Oils Of Life Facial Oil from The Body Shop.

the body shop oil of life

Skincare is covered I think (I hope).

There’s much less going on in my haircare regime.

I’m trying out the L’Oreal Pro Fiber Revive shampoo and conditioner.

irish blog

I have a mini Moroccan Oil.

irish blog beautynook

This stuff is great for nourishing the hair and great for dry ends so comes in very handy in the hotter weather.

For the evening to jazz up my hair a bit, I’m bringing my favourite texturising spray from Charles Worthington.

irish makeup and beauty blog

If you are looking for a cheaper alternative to the Oribe cult spray, give this a go. It’s great for root lift if you’re like me and you don’t like back combing your hair.

A bit of hairspray is a must for me.

irish beauty blog beautynook

I have a mini (so many minis I know) of this L’Oreal soft hairspray. My frizzy bits will thank me πŸ™‚

And by golly I think that’s it! Too much? Probably. I was a scout for my whole childhood though and our motto was always be prepared πŸ™‚
