Urban Decay have finally released their collaboration palette with Gwen Stefani. I couldn’t resist, I needed it in my life. The Urban Decay marketing team are geniuses 🙂

I picked my Urban Decay Gwen Stefani in Debenhams. It will set you back €46. They have it on the website with free shipping here, if you like what you see 🙂

The palette contains a mixture of neutral matte, satin and shimmery shades for the most part, with a couple of more intense colours for good measure. I think it’s a good mixture. As a Urban Decay fan I have alot of their palettes, so I’m used to them having some crazy colour combos within them. I think the Gwen palette gives good practical but still really pretty colour choices. You get 15 shades in total which is pretty decent for the price. They are soft and pigmented as you would expect from the brand. I love all the names she gave them too. If you’re a Gwen fan since her old school No Doubt days (like myself) you will get all the references she makes with them.

Now onto the good part, the eye shadows in action 🙂

The top row:

We have ‘Blonde’, the lightest shade in the palette.

‘Bathwater’ (one of my favourite No Doubt songs :).

And ‘Blackout’, a matte black is always a welcome addition to a palette for me.

I struggled to part with the money for the Gwen palette so close to Christmas for myself I have to admit. The guilt has subsided now however and I’m so glad I did. She’s just so darn pretty. I love everything the colour choices, the packaging everything! And there’s also an added bonus with it. You get samples of the lipsticks Gwen will be releasing with Urban Decay too. Score!

The packaging of the lippies looks amazing in the picture may I add 🙂

So we have ‘Rocksteady’.

beauty blog irelandA pinky red lipstick with a cream formula.

It wouldn’t be Gwen without a matte red. So this is a mega-matte (according to Urban Decay) and it’s called ‘714’.

‘Ex-Girlfriend’ is a sheer neutral brown shade.

Then, finally we have ‘Firebird’ an awesome bright purple hot pink shade with a cream finish.

I think it’s safe to say the Gwen palette for Urban Decay is a hit with me 🙂

Have you picked it up? Or is it on your Christmas wish list?

Let me know.

I’ve had an off and on relationship with the nude lip throughout my makeup wearing life. When I first plonked makeup on my face, nude lips were the only thing I would pretty much do because I had bad teeth and didn’t want to draw attention to them. I use to pale my lips out completely which in retrospect brought more attention to my wonky teeth. Then, I got invisalign  and bought so many coloured lipsticks it was ridiculous, and just thought nude lips didn’t suit me then. I’ve come full circle with it now and have realised just how many variations there is on the so called nude lip out there. When it comes to nude lip liners, they are so handy to have in your makeup collection. You can add them under similar colour lipsticks for staying power, under darker or lighter lipsticks (or glosses) to change the colour slightly, or of course use them to even out your lip line, and dare I say it…even over draw! 🙂 Here’s probably my 5 most used nude shade lip liners. They are not completely nude and they fall into different colour categories, but they could be all used to create a nude lip 🙂

irish beauty blog

First up is a I’ve spoken about in detail here before. It’s Rimmel’s ‘Eastend Snob’.

irish beauty blogirish beauty blog beautynook

I bloomin’ love this stuff. It’s the perfect nude pink shade. Rimmel do great lip liners and Exaggerate ones are great because they are retractable, no sharpening! I wear this under so many different lip colours, and it’s gorgeous on it’s own too. I will never be without this in my makeup collection. Rimmel if you’re reading this never discontinue it ‘kay? 🙂

The next one says it all really with the name. This is the Urban Decay Glide On lip pencil in the shade ‘1993’.

urban decay 1993makeup and beauty blog

And it pretty much sums up that era of lip colour perfectly, right? The Urban Decay lip liners are amazing so pigmented and easy to apply. This shade is great for warming up lip colours.

Next up is the cheapest of the bunch, but I love it just as much. The PS Love Lip Liner Pencil from Penneys in 06.

irish beauty bloggerirish beauty blog beautynook

If you want to give a brown lip liner a go to see if you like it this is the place to start. For €1.50 you get to try on the 90’s lip trend and then if you like it, you have a great pigmented lip liner in your collection. It’s win win really 🙂

My fourth choice is NYX lip liner in ‘Mauve’.

nyx cosmetics mauvetop irish beauty blog

Not the nudest of the collection but still kind of a subtle colour, so I think it qualifies? You can see from the size of the pencil, I get a lot of use out of this bad boy. I even have a the Nyx lipstick in the exact same shade. I think mauve is a great way to go if you’re not a huge fan of the nude lip trend, but still want to give something a go.

And lastly but definitely not least, I had to add Mac’s Whirl into the list, it has a life of it’s own at this stage.

Mac Whirlirish makeup and beauty blog

Whirl is the full on epitome of the 90’s brown lip like the Urban Decay 1993, but I think it’s a little bit cooler in tone. I wear this so much just on it’s own. Another bonus is this makes your teeth look whiter! This is probably as nude as I get…on my lips :p

So there you have it my top 5 most used nude lip liners. I think it’s safe to say I’m more of a brown lips girl rather than full on nude, but hopefully this might help if you’re in the market. Let me know and thanks for reading as always.

I’m back again with another Urban Decay Naked Palette look. I am no makeup artist, just a lover of makeup and applying it :). I did a look with the  the Naked 2 here a while ago too. I think most makeup lovers picked up one of these palettes along the way, so I want to cover all the bases.

This time I did a really easy and achievable Smoky eye using the aptly named Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette.

Urban Decay Naked Smoky PaletteYou can check out swatches of the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette here here too, if you want to see all of the shades on the skin.

First up I primed my eyelids with the Paese Eyeshadow Base. I just used my finger to apply it.

Paese CosmeticsEyeshadow primerbeautynook blogThen over top of it, just to set it and to get rid of the tacky feeling, I used the lightest shade in the Naked Smoky Palette ‘Thirteen’ all over the eyelid.

Thirteen Naked Smoky PaletteEyeshadpw lookThis step isn’t really necessary, but I just added a little of the shade ‘Combust’ into my crease to begin the story 🙂

Combust Naked Smoky Paletteirish beauty and makeup blogmakeup and beautyTo lay a base for the darker shadows on my lid, I grabbed the Nyx Jumbo Pencil in Slate.

Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil SlateI applied this to the moving part of my eyelid, one eye at a time and blending as I went as these set pretty fast.

irish beauty blogbeauty blogbeauty bloggerTo blend out the edges of the Jumbo pencil more and deepen up the crease, I took the shade ‘Password’, which is a grey toned matte brown.

Password Naked Smoky PaletteI used a clean Mac 217 blending brush to buff this into my crease, and to make sure there was no harsh edges.

simple eye lookNext is the fun part 🙂 I loaded up my brush with the colour ‘Armor’.

Armor Naked Smoky PaletteAnd patted this onto where the Jumbo Pencil was. Be sure to pat, there is alot of fallout. You can always apply more of this at the end to intensify the look so don’t worry if you blend some away finishing the look.

Real TechniquesI decided to darken the outer v so I took a tapered blending brush and grabbed the darkest shade in the palette ‘Black Market’.

Smoky paletteLouise Young brushI basically just drew a V with the brush on the outer part of my crease and lid.

irish beauty blogirish beauty blogThen, you guessed it more more blending 🙂 I cleaned my 217 off again and diffused the edges of the black.

Mac 217smoky eye lookIf the colour gets too muddied, just apply more and blend the edges. Don’t worry if the edges of your eyes get a bit messy, you can just clean it up with you concealer.

easy smoky lookurban decayUnder the eye I added some ‘Black Market’ with a pop of ‘Armor’ in the middle and blended it up to meet my top lid

smoky palette makeup lookirish makeup blogger beautynookI curled my lashes and added some healthy coats of mascara. You can by all means add lashes and some liner on the top lash line at this point if you want to make the look even more dramatic.

I decided to add some gel liner to my inner waterline. Rather than going for black, I went with the Inglot AMC Matte liner in 78, which is a grey colour.

Inglot AMC 78 Gel LinerbloggerI wrote a whole blogpost about how I apply liner here so I won’t bore you with all the details. I use a pencil dipped in the liner to get the job done though :).

So I tightlined the top.

And there you have it, there’s my hopefully easy smoked eye look using the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette.

I added a light pink lip and some peach blush to finish it off.

I am a makeup lover, not a makeup artist. But I do enjoy slapping the slap on, so I thought I would start doing little step by step posts. Hopefully they will do down well 🙂

I did a really easy Autumn appropriate eye look using my favourite (I think) from the Naked Palette the Urban Decay Naked 2.

Urban Decay Naked 2First up in this Urban Decay Naked 2 look, I primed using their Primer Potion, I would be nowhere in makeup land without primer! I just used my finger to add a small amount all over the lids.

urban decay primer potionpriming lidsThen I used the Maybelline Color Tattoo in ‘Pomegranate Punk’  as a base colour on my eyelid.

maybelline color tattoomaybelline color tattoo pomegranate punkI just patted this on with my fingers, not taking it above the crease of my eye and used a synthetic blending brush to blend away any harsh edges.

irish beauty blog beautynookshadow blendingTime to crack open the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette 🙂

To ensure any shadows I was going to use blended easily on my lids, I just used the same synthetic brush to add a wash of ‘Foxy’ from the crease up, it’s just a matte skin coloured shadow.

urban decay foxyeyeshadow blendingUsing a Nima ‘Debs’ brush.

Nima Debs BrushI dipped it into the shade ‘YDK’ from the palette.

urban decay YDKI applied this on top of the Maybelline Color Tattoo.

urban decay makeup lookThis shadow has alot of fallout, in fact most Urban Decay shadows do because they are so soft, so I suggest waiting to do your concealer or even your whole face until after the shadows are applied.

makeup tutorialOnce I was happy with the colour on the lids, I cleaned off the Nima brush and dipped in into ‘Tease’

urban decay teaseIt’s a matte purpley taupe shade so works lovely as a crease colour.

And so I added this softly into the crease in window wiper motions and built up the colour in stages. easy peasy right?

easy purple eyeshadow lookFor an added little bit of dimension, I took a smaller brush, this is the Real Techniques ‘Essential Crease Brush’.

real techniquesI went into the shade ‘Busted’ and just added a small amount to the outer V of my eyes.

urban decay busted

makeup blogNot necessary, but adding in a bit of darkness makes it look a little more dramatic I think.

irish lifestyle blogI then took the lightest shimmery colour in the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette ‘Bootcall’ and applied it to my brow bone.

urban decay Bootycalleasy purple eye lookmakeup tutorial irelandProbably not a step everyone likes, you might prefer a matte, but for me I like a bit of shine there sometimes 🙂

Instead of lining my lid with a black or brown, I chose this Barry M pencil in ‘Bold Purple’. It’s a true purple with a bit sparkle running through it.

barrym bold purple eyelinerI applied it from the pencil, it’s nice and soft, and then I got it right into the lash line with a little liner brush.

irishbeautyblogstep by step makeup tutorialI applied some mascara to my upper lashes and then for the lower lash line, I just blew out some ‘Busted’ shadow under there and left it at that.

easy makeup tutorialI lined my waterline with L’Oreal Infallible pencil in ‘Night Day Black’. This is a dark grey colour.

L'Oreal Infallible Eyeliner 'night day black'If I knew I was out for the whole night I probably would have switched up this step and used a gel liner instead.

irish lifestyle blogI added mascara to my bottom lashes then.

Final touch, again unnecessary and not for everyone, I used a pencil brush to apply some of the ‘Bootycall’ shade to my inner tear duct. I love doing this step, I think it just brightens my eyes and because I used purple shades it covers any purple under tones that might be visible on my skin there.

irish beauty blogAnd there you have it, my really simple and of course unprofessional cool toned purple look using the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette.

Urban Decay Ten 24 7 Glide On Pencil Set

I bought this set completely on a whim when I was late night “window” shopping on Debenhams. They had 10% off and I had a fiver on my store card burning a hole in my purse…how could I resist? 🙂

This is the Urban Decay Ten 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil Set, it’s a bit of a mouthful I know. I am a big fan of Urban Decay I went through a phase of collecting their palettes, I have kinda put a stop to that…for now. Their eye pencils are some of the best I have used to date so when I saw this and the colour range, I just knew it had to be mine.

This is just fresh from the couriers hands and I have already fallen in love with it, so I just had to swatch them and show you the loveliness the box contains.

First up, you get a full sized  “Perversion” pencil.

Urban Decay PerversionPerversion

This is a gorgeous soft matte black pencil.

Then the set contains 9 smaller pencils (they are more than half the size of Perversion though so don’t let the size put you off, it’s pretty decent).

The second pencil is “Voodoo”.

Urban Decay VodooVoodoo

This is a bright purple with some shimmer running through it.

Third up we have “Stargazer”.

Urban Decay StargazerStargazer

This a very yellow shimmery gold pencil. I have never owned a colour quite like it.

Fourth, is “Mugshot”Urban Decay Mugshot

Mugshot

This is a very wearable shimmery bronzed colour.

Fifth up we have “Smokeout”

Urban Decay SmokeoutSmokeout

This is a blackened brown shade. I think it will be perfect for creating a dark smokey eye, probably why they named it Smokeout :).

Sixth in the line up is “Gonzo”.

Urban Decay GonzoGonzo

I think this is going to be one of my favourites of the set. I already own “Electric” from Urban Decay which is a very similar colour, bit “Gonzo” is so much brighter.

Seventh is “Faint”.

Urban Decay FaintFaint

This is a classic matte taupe colour, it will be a fab base for a brown look.

Eighth is “Vacancy”.

Urban Decay VacancyVacancy

This a greener version of “Gonzo”. This will be a waterline colour for me I’m sure.

Ninth is “Moonspoon”.

Urban Decay MoonspoonMoonspoon

This is a grey shimmery colour with so many uses. Liner, lid and waterline alike I think.

And then finally number ten “Glitter Rock”.

Urban Decay Glitter RockGlitter Rock

A lovely shimmery warm toned brown, you cannot go wrong with a colour like this in your collection.

As well as the liners, you also get a pencil sharpener in this set, very handy indeed!

Urban Decay SharpenerUrban Decay

On a side note, this sharpener fits NYX Jumbo pencils in it…just a bit of added information for you 🙂

I am so happy I bought this set. The colours are all super pigmented creamy, blendable and once set long lasting. I am a huge makeup fan so these are being added to an already pretty full collection of eye liner pencils, but I can see myself getting alot of use out of them.

If you are only getting into makeup and starting a collection, these would be a great investment too as this sets contains all the colours you would need to get you going. Overall a great buy and a great one to add to the Christmas list 🙂 It will set you back €40, but keep an eye out for discounts and discount codes, you might get a bargain, I did!

As always, thanks for reading, it means the absolute world.

Welcome to the dark side

The only things I really like about the colder weather coming is wearing jumpers and changing up my makeup, the rest of it…not so much. My main makeup love in Autumn and Winter is rocking dark lips. I just love how it looks with a neutral eye, and it can really dress up a plain look and give it more dimension. Since the 90’s is alive and kicking in the 00’s, dark lips are so on point at the minute.

I have a few favourites in my collection, so thought I would show you some of my most worn for some lippie inspiration.

I think one of the most well down dark shades is Rebel by Mac.

Mac Rebel

Rebel

This is the first darker lipstick I ever bought. I gave into the hype  and I am not disappointed in the slightest! This is the perfect plum colour. It’s a satin formula, pigmented, easy to apply, blue toned and lasts really well on the lips. The flash on my camera doesn’t quite do it justice.

Rebel

Ok, the next two were just impulse purchases. I have to be honest, they are both nearly the same colour as Rebel, that’s when you know you’re a makeup junkie! I get shopper amnesia!! Saying that, if you couldn’t get near a Mac they are fantastic dupes.

Urban Decay’s Venom is more of a creamy formula with a sheeny finish on the lips, which is comfortable to wear but it tends to wear and move more quickly.

Urban Decay Venom

IMG_3709

I adore the packaging of these Revolution lipsticks, they feel so luxurious in your hands and I love the gunmetal finish. You can find Urban Decay in Debenhams.

Venom

If your budget won’t stretch to the Mac or the Urban Decay heights, Inglot do a fantastic version of the plum lipstick trend, number 293.

Inglot 293

IMG_3740

Like Venom it’s a more moisturising formula than Rebel.

Inglot 293

Inglot do really great lipsticks, this was the first one I have bought, but I definitely will buy more in the future.

I would always try to use a lip pencil with such dark, pigmented colours to help to get a crisp line and even lip shape. Mac’s Currant lipliner is well known to be best friends with Rebel.

Mac Currant Lip Pencil

Currant

Sleek do a great version of the colour in the Eau La La Liner collection called ironically Venom too though so no need to break the bank.

Sleek Eau la la Venom

Venom

Mac’s Heroine is well…pretty out there as lipstick colours go.

Mac HeroineHeroine

As you can see, it’s purple 🙂 It’s a matte finish with a warm undertone, so if you are conscious about the whiteness of your teeth, Heroine is probably not the best choice for you. Of course, this colour is not for the faint hearted, but it is the pantone colour of the year, so very on trend.

Heroine

We are big fans of Sleek Makeup here at Chatterbox. It’s such a great affordable brand. With Boots in Liffey Valley and Blanchardstown  stocking it now too, it makes getting your hands on it even easier. Their matte liquid lipstick in Fandango Purple, for me is a great mix of the plum and purple trend. I think it has elements of both colours incorporated into it.

Sleek Matte Me Fandango PurpleIMG_3718

As the name suggests these liquid lipsticks are a matte formula, so your lips need to be in tip top condition before application. They last really well on the lips though and come with a doe foot applicator so a little easier to apply than straight out of a bullet if you don’t possess a lip brush.

Fandango Purple

Of course, these are by no means all the dark lippies on the market, just a selection of the ones I own and have worn and tested. Are you bold enough to wear a plum or purple lip? I think, just like a red or an orange lip it makes your makeup feel extra special and can make you look like you made an effort when you might have just thrown on some BB cream and mascara. If you are too scared to wear the colour full on, pat it into the lips for a more diffused look, it will still look beautiful.

But I say give it a go, it’s only makeup, you can wash it off 🙂
