This is my honest everyday Summer Makeup look! I tried to keep it as real as possible and just edited out my ‘ums’ and any long winded techniques. My brows take forever 🙂
It’s nothing fancy or ground breaking, but this is generally what I do on a daily basis if I’m wearing makeup. The eye look might change a bit if I’m feeling fancier or lazier. The lip colour might change if I’m feeling a bold or bright lip, but the base tends to not really. I’ve found what works for my skin in the heat, so I don’t want to jinx it too much if I’m going out and about. If I know I’m staying close to home, then I can experiment and trial new products 🙂
It all depends on what you feel most comfortable with. For me, brows and a bit of eyeshadow definition is a must. Eyeliner is not necessary so it’s not something I do day to day. Once I have a wash of colour on my lids I am happy enough. The main components of my everyday Summer makeup look, I’ve spoken about a lot before. I think this is an important aspect of this video though. You know I like these products and above all, you know I trust them.
I won’t get into everything, but some of the main products I used are in my June Favourites here. I have a review the Urban Decay Primer here, and of both the foundations I used here and here. Mac Springsheen blush has been a favourite for literally years and the highlighter from Pixi is a new, but very loved favourite.
And that is my ‘errand running’ everyday Summer makeup. If you watched the video, you’ll get the joke 🙂
Thanks for tuning it. Tell me, what are some of your Summer makeup essentials?
I’m a teeny bit late with my June Favourites, apologies. I reckon this heat is making us all a bit loopy and unproductive though, right? 🙂
June was my birthday month, and although life is a bit of a rollercoaster at the minute being by mam’s side while she’s so ill. (Fuck Cancer!), every awesome person around me made my birthday bloody awesome. I got treated to afternoon tea by my bestie, had a BBQ in my honour in the gorgeous sun and was just generally a spoiled brat.
There wasn’t many stand out June Favourites for this year. But I managed to sit down and think of a few. One skincare, of course makeup and even an oul fashion fave that I got for my birthday.
Yep, I am talking about the giant sunglasses upon my face :). They’re from Quay and I got them on ASOS.
I am on my second tube of the Pixi Rose Cream Cleanser, so I definitely thought that was worth chatting about a little bit.
The Clarins Summer Bronzer is something I’ve already harped on about before here too. I haven’t used another bronzer since getting it though, so it really had to be in my June Favourites.
Then finally my go to lip combo for the past two weeks which I demonstrated on Instagram here.
And that is my June Favourites tied up in a blogpost and video bow 🙂
Hope you have the greatest July. Try to be present and take in the awesome weather we are having. Safely of course, we don’t know how long it’s going to last.
I have been in a bit of a creative rut this week. I asked on Instagram stories what kind of content you like. Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to message me and fill my head with awesome ideas. I appreciate it so much. A big shout out to my lovely friend Sinéad aka The Beautiful Truth for giving me the Disappointing Makeup Products idea.
I generally talk about products I really disliked on social media. When I review products I try to be as logical as possible. I like to give the pros and the cons. I rarely dedicate a post to things I have and just generally don’t get on with. But it’s fun to change things up 🙂 Now this won’t be scathing. Everything is up for interpretation and just because I dislike something doesn’t mean everyone does. This is just my opinion.
First up of my six disappointing makeup products, is the Kiko Smart Cult Eyeshadow Palette in Matte Revolution. I did a post swatching this when I first got it here.
I bought this in Brussels after seen it plastered all over social media. The colours looked so cool and generally I am a big fan of Kiko.
This just doesn’t do it for me though. On first swatch some of the colours are grand, but trying to blend them on the eyes is way too much of a chore. They blend away to nothing. Yes, I can make it work if I need to, but this palette has just ended up lying in a drawer not being used. It wasn’t expensive, but still, it was definitely a waste of my money.
For me, this foundation is too thick. I don’t like the doe-foot applicator, and I just find it hard to blend.
I don’t mind a thicker foundation, but I would put this in the same category as Esteè Lauder Double Wear. Although I do say in my review it isn’t as thick, but it nearly is 🙂 It’s just too much for me. At least Double Wear stands the test of time on my oily skin, this only does an ok job. I find it grand, but I haven’t reached for it much at all since buying it.
This just doesn’t keep my eyeshadow in check. I have relatively oily lids so I am generally a good judge of eyeshadow primer. This is in the shade Nude. I think it’s more yellow toned, so unless I am covering it completely on the lids, the tone will poke through a bit.
It just doesn’t cut the mustard. I like that it’s in stick form, it’s easy to use and super affordable, but not for me 🙁
The Zoeva Strobe Gel was completely bought on a whim because the jelly like texture intrigued me.
I have the shade Halo.
If you like a more subtle highlight, this might work for you. For me, it just looks like nothing on my skin, especially when applied with a brush. Applying it with your fingers is tricky though, as the formula just doesn’t allow itself to be picked up with your fingertips too well. I tried to incorporate it into my makeup and to make it work, but I just end up reaching for something else. It’s a cool concept, but gets a thumbs down from me.
My next two disappointing makeup products will again, be controversial.
Waterproof mascara is more my jam, most of the time. But I do try lots of non waterproof formulas and do review the ones that meet my extremely high mascara standards 🙂
So many people adore this mascara. I don’t! I deem it grand. It coats the lashes, helps a little with volume and on me, flakes like a bitch. If a mascara flakes after a long ass, productive day, I can live with that. But this does it a couple of hours into wear on me. For that reason, it’s made the list 🙂
Now hear me out because this is definitely a more personal disappointment. I am just not wowed by it. The texture is a bit drying, especially for the price. It’s also super super similar to my lip colour, so it tends to look more brown on me than pink.
I have the lipstick too . (I have a blogpost about it here). You can see both of them swatched in that. I reach for the lipstick way more, although I am not a huge fan of the fragrance, but I can get over that. I have the lip liner literally years, and it’s still very much in tact as you can see. Give me Rimmel’s Eastend Snob liner over it any day!
Do any of my disappointing makeup choices shock you? Are some of your holy grails in here? This is what I love about makeup, one person’s trash can be another person’s treasure 🙂
I asked on Instagram stories, would you want to see swatched of the new Too Faced Chocolate Gold Palette. It was pretty much an unanimous yes, so here we are.
I know people like quick fixes these days and would probably prefer to see these on social media. But I am still a blogger through and through, and sure it means there’s a permanent reference and it looks a bit better in website form. Thanks for taking the extra click 🙂
The Too Faced Chocolate Gold Palette is the next collection of eyeshadows in their chocolate bar family.
The minute you open it, the waft of cocoa greets you. These palettes look like chocolate and they literally smell like it too. The palette itself is really sturdy and comes with a large mirror in the lid.
There is sixteen shades within. Four mattes including a larger panned light skin colour shade, a cool toned brown, a slightly warmer brown and a black.
Rollin’in Dough, So Boujee, Cocoa Truffle, Decadent.
The other twelve are all foiled with Chocolate Gold of course, being the star of the show.
Moneybags, Chocolate Gold, Rich Girl, Love & Cocoa, Old Money, New Money, Famous, Classy & Sassy
Holla For A Dolla, Gold Dipped, Livin’ Lavish, Drippin’ Diamonds.
I totes tried to fit them all in one pic….it didn’t work, soz! The second picture does give you a closer look at the finish though, so I’m not too mad it didn’t work out.
You get different variants of metallic gold within this palette, which I very much like. I’m not always a full on yellow gold kinda gal. I do enjoy a more taupe or bronzed gold across the lid day to day. There’s generally very wearable colours in it and then there’s definitely a couple more ‘out there’ shades. I’m talking about you ‘Money Bags and ‘New Money’. Too Faced, in my humble opinion do metallic shadows really well. This palette definitely reflects that. The mattes for me are grand. You can build them up, but they are harder to work with. I will be for sure playing around more with this palette more on social media, so if you want to see the colours in action on the eyes, make sure you’re following me 🙂
You can find the Too Faced Chocolate Gold Palette now in store or online from Debenhams. It retails for €47. Do you own any of the Chocolate Bar Palettes?
My first get ready with me for 2018! You know I love these videos myself, I love zoning out and just watching the makeup take shape. This makeup look is one I did to go out for dinner.
I had some new products I wanted to use and I wanted to look put together but not too dolled up, if that makes sense?
Now of course that’s up for interpretation. You could look at this makeup look and think you could never in a million years put this much makeup on.
Foundation: Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Foundation. (Review here), mixed with the LA Girl HD Foundation. Completely unnecessary to mix foundations, it’s just something I like to do to change up colour, coverage, longevity, depending on the scenario.
Ok, writing it out, it’s a hell of a lot of product to use in one makeup look I know, but I do go a bit extra with things. Not all steps are necessary 🙂
All the products listed are linked and you can go directly to my YouTube channel here if you want to check out the video directly.
I was planning on doing an overall sum up of my favourites for the year. To include food, fashion, the works. But I would literally be talking and typing until probably 2019!. So, I just decided to do beauty favourites! Hope you don’t mind.
Beauty is my thing after all so if I was going to talk about something, this would be it 🙂
Everything I chat about in my beauty favourites video here, I believe has it’s own blogpost. Of course, I talk about them somewhat in depth within video form. But if you want to see close ups and more put together reviews, I will link the posts below. I am much better at putting my words together when I write them down. I get a bit carried away when I am just chatting.
Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow. Review here.
Clarins Double Serum. I did a full review of this here.
Jo Malone Basil & Neroli Cologne. I chat more about this here.
Have you any stand out beauty favourites from 2017? It was definitely a year for so many new releases, both good and bad!
As always thanks for sticking around these parts. For reading, watching, engaging and just being a part of this Beautynook journey with me. I really appreciate it. It definitely makes all the work a bit sweeter knowing there’s people actually paying attention 🙂
