Nope, I definitely didn’t need it! But, I got it anyways. This is the Mac Fruity Juicy ‘Oh My Passion’ Pearlmatte Face Powder! Isn’t she a beauty?

Mac Fruity Juicy

To be completely honest, I bought this completely based on how it looks in the pan. That is the most makeup addicted thing I have ever said, and I am completely OK with it 🙂

mac cosmetics

According to the Brown Thomas website the Mac Fruity Juicy ‘Oh My Passion’ Powder is: ‘A unique face powder featuring a flirty flower pattern pressed into it. Pearlized and satin shades feature a rich texture, velvet finish. Can be used as a blush and highlighter. (Also suitable for eye area.) Limited edition. Special packaging with tropical fruit and floral print.’ They had me at flirty flower pattern, ha!

I must admit, I do hate the name of this collection, it just makes me think of chewing gum. The packaging definitely saves it for me though.

There is four shades within this powder. The flowers are light yellow gold shimmer, lilac and coral. And then, then what seems to be a leaf motif in the middle is a shimmery bronze shade.

Here they are swatched individually with and without the flash:

Then, here they are all swirled together and applied to the skin pictured with and without the flash on:

All of the shades alone have a shimmer to them and apply really smoothly and opaquely to the skin. Mixed together you get a really pretty iridescent peach shade.

When I saw the Mac Fruity Juicy ‘Oh My Passion’ powder first, I thought it would probably be too dark for my pale skin. Also, the shades are quite cumbersome to use alone. You need to use a pretty small brush. It can be done though. And they are designed to use on the eyes too. However, I really like the peach sheen you get from all the colours together, so that is probably how I will use it myself personally.

I picked up my Mac Fruity Juicy ‘Oh My Passion’ powder in store from the new Arnotts Mac counter. They don’t sell the brand online though, so here is a link to it from Brown Thomas if you like what you see. It costs €31.50.

Did you pick up anything from the collection?

The Urban Decay Full Spectrum is not a necessity is your makeup bag. To be fair makeup isn’t a necessity in our lives, that doesn’t stop us from wanting using and enjoying it though 🙂

beauty website ireland

If I am being completely honest with myself (and you), most of the colours in this palette will not make it on my face day to day. Or perhaps even, never. I am not a professional makeup artist so I cannot even justify it by saying I might use them on other people. I enjoy buying and sourcing makeup, the buzz and the aftermath. So, that is my justification for buying the crazy colourful Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette 🙂 Oh and I did get it in Siopaella, AND it was half price!! You have to be quick buying makeup in there though. There’s usually only one (or sometimes two) of something.

irish beauty blog

Ok, enough beauty babble out of me. We’re here to look at the Urban Decay Full Spectrum up close. Urban Decay say it is a step up from their Spectrum Palette which was launched last year. This is the 2016 version of that limited edition colour explosion. You get 21 shades in total, each 1.2 grams. This is most eyeshadows in any Urban Decay Palette to date.

urban decay full spectrum palette

They are organised by colour family. So if you look at the colours in trios going down, you can see that they go from light to dark within the same colour….spectrum 🙂

urban decay ireland

The packaging is really lovely and is sleek to the touch, with a large very usable mirror within the lid.

You also get a dual ended brush, which has seemed to become the norm with Urban Decay Palettes.

The eyeshadows vary from more sparkly, shimmery and then shadows that look shimmery in the palette, but swatch matte. There is also a matte white thrown in for good measure. I actually like this addition because you can layer the bright colours over top (in theory) to make them more vibrant on the eyes. It contains 18 new shades with 3 what Urban Decay call exclusives from past palettes.

I have them swatched in sevens across, from left to right.

On the top line we have: Alchemy, Warning, Midnight Blaze, Hundred, Minx, Delirious, Platonic.

beauty blog irelandtop beauty blog

The second line contains: Gossip, Seize (apologies there’s a glare on the name), Calavera, Hatter, Blindsided, Sketch, Iced.

Then on the final row, we have: Paranoia, Jones (again with the glare, apologies), Goldmine, Mean, Metamorphosis, Faded and the matte white, Bump.

Some of the eyeshadows definitely have more colour pay off than others. You would even just notice that from the touch. There is some really lovely wearable colours within the rainbow. But overall, I think this is a palette for people who are makeup fiends, colour fiends or collectors ( I put myself in that category 🙂 ).

The Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette is available in Debenhams in store now or online here and will set you back €49. Would you dare?

Urban Decay have finally released their collaboration palette with Gwen Stefani. I couldn’t resist, I needed it in my life. The Urban Decay marketing team are geniuses 🙂

I picked my Urban Decay Gwen Stefani in Debenhams. It will set you back €46. They have it on the website with free shipping here, if you like what you see 🙂

urban decay gwen stefani

The palette contains a mixture of neutral matte, satin and shimmery shades for the most part, with a couple of more intense colours for good measure. I think it’s a good mixture. As a Urban Decay fan I have alot of their palettes, so I’m used to them having some crazy colour combos within them. I think the Gwen palette gives good practical but still really pretty colour choices. You get 15 shades in total which is pretty decent for the price. They are soft and pigmented as you would expect from the brand. I love all the names she gave them too. If you’re a Gwen fan since her old school No Doubt days (like myself) you will get all the references she makes with them.

Now onto the good part, the eye shadows in action 🙂

The top row:

We have ‘Blonde’, the lightest shade in the palette.

And ‘Blackout’, a matte black is always a welcome addition to a palette for me.

I struggled to part with the money for the Gwen palette so close to Christmas for myself I have to admit. The guilt has subsided now however and I’m so glad I did. She’s just so darn pretty. I love everything the colour choices, the packaging everything! And there’s also an added bonus with it. You get samples of the lipsticks Gwen will be releasing with Urban Decay too. Score!

The packaging of the lippies looks amazing in the picture may I add 🙂

So we have ‘Rocksteady’.

It wouldn’t be Gwen without a matte red. So this is a mega-matte (according to Urban Decay) and it’s called ‘714’.

‘Ex-Girlfriend’ is a sheer neutral brown shade.

Then, finally we have ‘Firebird’ an awesome bright purple hot pink shade with a cream finish.

I think it’s safe to say the Gwen palette for Urban Decay is a hit with me 🙂

Have you picked it up? Or is it on your Christmas wish list?

Let me know.

Makeup Revolution is pretty new to Irish shores. We could buy it online but never in store. Now we have a couple of stands, just in the Superdrug’s we have here in Dublin. So still not the easiest to get if you don’t live in the county 🙁

I picked up a few bits which I documented here in a blogpost a while ago.

One of them was their Radiance Palette.

Irish beauty blog makeup revolution radiance palette

This is a trio of their highlighters. If you are a makeup fiend you may be thinking these look familiar? Well you would be right there.

This palette has a remarkable resemblance to the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette which I also have in my possession.

beauty blog hourglass ambient lighting palette

These are being compared alot online. The Makeup Revolution Palette is being deemed a dupe for the Hourglass. They look really similar in the pan but of course the Makeup Revolution one is a hell of alot cheaper than the Hourglass palette. So do they compare?

Beautynook Makeup Revolution Radiance Palette V Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette

Here is the Makeup Revolution Radiance Palette swatched on my arm from left to right.

makeup revolution radiance palette swatch

Then, here is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette swatched in the same way. Radiance Light first, Incandescent Light in the middle and then Dim Light.

Hourglass ambient lighting palette swatch

I think the Makeup Revolution Radiance Palette fares ok. The palette itself is grand. It had a good sized mirror within a plastic casing and the powders are housed pretty firmly inside. The product is a little powdery and takes alot of building up in my humble opinion. It disappears as you blend it into the skin, but you can eventually get there and build up a glow with them. They have quite a sparkly finish.

As I reiterate in most of my posts I have oily skin, and I find the Radiance Palette doesn’t last very long on me. After a couple of hours of applying any of them, I can’t really see the product anymore, it’s like it just sinks in, not great 🙁 It may work better on drier skin? I don’t know.

So what about the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette?

I have this palette a long time now and really love it. I love the sleek packaging (even though it’s plastic) and then the powders inside are just so soft and buttery to the touch. They blend into the skin without much effort at all. They glide onto the skin much easier and they last much longer on me personally then the Makeup Revolution ones. They look more soft focus than the Radiance Palette, which I prefer too.

There is a pretty substantial price difference between these two. The Makeup Revolution Radiance Palette will set you back €10.35 and the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette is a whopping €68!

On comparing the palettes, it really comes down to brass tax, you get what you pay for. There is often amazing similar products (I find the word ‘dupe’ hard so I’ll go with similar ha)  to be found in the ‘drugstore’, of course, and I love to hunt them out and shout them from the rooftop, but I personally don’t think I have found one this time. They definitely look similar, but they do not perform the same at all.

In conclusion, I think the Makeup Revolution Radiance Palette is OK as a shimmery highlighter palette, I don’t think I would repurchase it, whereas I think the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette is a gorgeous face powder/ soft focus highlighting palette and I would splurge on it all over again. That is my over analytic summation anyways 🙂

Do you have either? Or both? Let me know what you think.

Beautynook Wet n Wild Megalast Lipsticks

Welcome back to Beautynook and if it’s your first time here thanks for stopping by 🙂

The Wet n Wild Megalast lipsticks are awesome, simple as that. They’ve brought out a whole new range of matte colours here in Ireland. I picked up 8 of them to swatch and show you. At €2.99  a pop you get so much bang out of these lipsticks it’s pretty impressive. Some of these colours wouldn’t be my go to lip choices but I am hoping there is a colour in the eight that suits everyone who comes by to read. Although I think there will be more pictures than words in this blogpost 🙂

First up we have ‘Dollhouse Pink’

There are even more new shades on Wet n Wild Stands now. These are just the ones I picked up in my local Dunnes.

I can honestly say nothing bad about the Megalast lipsticks. And you can see for yourself how pigmented they are! If you walk by a Wet n Wild Stand, have a swatch and see for yourself.

So what do you think? What colours call out to you? I think my favourite are ‘Cherry Picking’ ‘Spiked With Rum’ and ‘Don’t Blink Pink’.

Thanks for reading and I hope this helps a bit if you’re a tad undecided 🙂

Makeup Geek Eyeshadows

My Makeup Geek Eyeshadows

The Makeup Geek brand is slowly and surely starting to become a more recognized brand around the world. As a makeup junkie I have known of Marlena (owner and creator of the brand) for a few years now as she started out as a blogger and YouTube makeup guru. I have already reviewed some of the pigments that she has created here and given some info on the brand so I won’t bore you with that again. But I will say I LOVE the pigments and would really recommend them if you are in the market.

So… onto the shadows. You can avail of them in pan form. They are priced $5.99 which is very reasonable and then the tax and delivery is pretty reasonable too. I keep all of mine together in Z Palettes. Mise Beauty in Dundalk have Z Palettes available from the store or online as do Makeup Geek themselves. These are magnetic palettes that you can place your pans in any way you wish. They come with magnets too if the item you want to put in them is not magnetic, so handy 🙂

I’ve made a few purchases off the Makeup Geek site and have gathered eye shadows from all ends of the colour and finish spectrum, so read on to see my collection (so far) swatched and named. I did not use a primer purposely to show the pigment and texture of the shadows on their own.

Phew….are you still with me? 😛 That’s alot of scrolling I know. I wanted to show them individually though because sometimes when things are swatched together the camera doesn’t capture them enough.

As with all eyeshadow brands texture and finish vary from shadow to shadow. I can whole heartedly say Makeup Geek are doing a fantastic job though and for the price and amount of product you get in the pan these are absolutely brilliant and dare I say comparable to the almighty MAC! I use these shadows most days to make looks with just them or in corporation with bases and other shadows. They blend well, have great colour pay off and last on oily lidded me (with a primer of course). I think my fave so far if I had to pick would be Mermaid, Peach Smoothie, Bling and Burlesque.

Be sure to let me know if you have tried any Makeup Geek products. Aswell as shadows and pigments, they offer liners, blush brushes and lipsticks galore so they are building up quite the brand! I need to get my hands on more I know that for sure 🙂

Thanks for sticking with me and if you buy anything after reading this post please let me know, it warms the cockles of my heart!

Gemma
