I am going back to old school YouTube roots a bit. Totally for a bit of fun and totally to show you my new bargain of a handbag from River Island.

What's In My Handbag

I had been eyeing up this bag for a minute. They had posted a pic of it on Instagram and it looked so up my street.River Island Handbag

I am crossbody bag kinda gal. I am an absolute brat when it comes to carrying things. Think of a five year old bringing their toys with them and then halfway through the journey deciding they don’t want to hold them anymore. That is me in a nutshell πŸ™‚ I was previously using this backpack from Zara. It didn’t last very long though and I find I was just filling it with crap. I have a couple of Rebecca Minkoff cross-bodies and have been using them day to day, but I really needed something of decent quality that I could bash around a bit.beauty blog ireland

This bag is suede and leather and it originally retailed for €75/Β£55. If you buy from the likes of ASOS or River Island online, always buy in pounds. The conversion is so much better. I was holding off until it came into the shops, but kept checking up on it online. Does anyone else do that with things they really like? πŸ™‚top irish beauty blogtop irish beauty blogger

I randomly checked on it one day and it was on sale for Β£25!! So I thought screw seeing it in real life first. With shipping, it cost me €31!! I thought that was a really bloody good deal for a leather bag. It’s still on sale on the River Island website here. (Update: It has just become out of stock, but they have loads of fab bags still on sale here) . Remember to buy in pounds πŸ™‚irish beauty vlogger

Overall, I am super happy with the bag. The quality is really decent and there’s no big RI logos anywhere on the outside of it. I am not a huge fan of that. It’s a little bigger than I thought it was, but for a day time bag, I am completely ok with that. The thick strap I love, although it isn’t as long as I would like and it isn’t adjustable. I definitely wouldn’t be able to wear this crossbody over a big coat. Not ideal, but I’ll probably just wear it inside my jacket as it gets colder, or on one shoulder.beauty blogger irelandtop beauty blog irelandtop beauty blogger irelandirish beauty youtuber

In the video I give you a quick run through of what’s in my handbag. For fun, and just so you can see what it can actually hold. There is only one big compartment within it. It has a little zip enclosure for your purse/phone. And then a couple of little pockets. If you like your stuff compartmentalised within your bag, this isn’t for you πŸ™‚Irish beauty bloggerIrish beauty blog

I know loads of you bought it. (Thanks loads for using my affiliate link). I’d love to know what you think and if you’re happy with your purchasing decision like me:)

What’s seldom is wonderful. I am back with a fashion haul. It’s been a while I know. But I’m brutal at them though ha!

fashion haul

I love clothes, I just don’t love my body. So it’s really hard to put it on show online. That means a fashion haul for me is more just showing clothes to the camera and trying to describe them. Maybe one day I’ll be comfortable enough for the fancy cutaways showing the clothing on. For now, I hope this method is ok.

fashion haul

I chat in abundance about what I bought and why I bought it in the video above or here. And then I will put pics and links down below of everything I can.

irish beauty blog

I think everything I bought from ASOS, Zara and River Island altogether cost just over €200. For the amount of things I picked up online, I think that’s a pretty good price!

My Zara fashion haul is first!

Striped giraffe shirt which I’m wearing in the video.

The dud of the haul is probably this pom pom t shirt, just because I sized up and it was already an over sized item.

This is my very first Black Friday Deals blog post, so I am really hoping it ends up being helpful to people πŸ™‚ I did my pick of Advent Calendars here for this year and it went down really well.Black Friday Deals I always declare, but just to be extra transparent, I do use affiliate links. This doesn’t mean you pay anymore as a consumer. It just means if you buy anything through the links I share I make a really small commission. And it all goes back into buying makeup so I can keep writing (and filming) for Beautynook.

Yep it’s happening, it’s January Favourites time!

irish beauty blogger

I am panicking a bit, not going to lie. We are properly into the second month of 2017, eeeekk! But in blog/vlog world that gives us an excuse to recap and look over the month and pick out some of our most used bits and bobs. I do this in video form now, but I do like to still do a blog post too.

My January Favourites for 2017 consist of a couple of fashion bits, a skincare item and of course my one true love, some makeup as well.

January Favourites

I have a bit of disclaimer, I filmed this feeling a little bit under the weather. I have the cold that so many people have at the minute that just won’t go away. So it’s a bit of rambley video, hope that’s OK ha. I am a bit zonked on cold medication πŸ™‚

The products mentioned are:

  • A Zara bag pack, that is gone from the website now, I apologise if you liked the look of it.
  • Coverse Hi Top runners. You can get these in so many places, but I’ll put a link to them on the Schuh website here if you want a closer look.
  • Asos watch: I can’t find a to the exact one, but they have lots of similar (and actually some nicer ones) here.
  • Cailyn Dissolv’It Makeup Melt Cleansing Balm. I got given this at an event, but it retails for €25 from their website here.
  • Isa Dora Matt Fixing Powder. I got this as a press sample. But, I found it on the Feel Unique website here for €17.86.
  • Zoeva Blanc Fusion Palette. I have a review and info on all of the palettes within the Plaisir Box here.
  • Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liners. You can pick these up in Boots in store or online here. They are €5.49
  • And then finally Mac Extended Play Mascara. I have a whole blog post about this here.

irish beauty blog

And that is all of my January Favourites. You can watch the video by clicking on it above or going to my YouTube channel here. Have you any stand out products from the month?

For black Friday Beauty Bay were doing 10% off Makeup Geek. Since the exchange is so bad here, this made the price of the shadows a little bit more bearable. And so I bought a few new friends to add to my collection πŸ™‚

I did a look with some of the Makeup Geek eyeshadows I already own here not too long ago if you fancy having a look at some more.

I was quite restrained and only bought four new ones. Also Beauty Bay keeps selling out so quickly, so you can’t be too fussy when it comes to choosing.

makeup geek irish beauty blogtop irish beauty blog

My first purchase was a rather boring but still lovely brown.

irishbeautyblog

This is one of the Makeup Geek standard eyeshadows in ‘Brown Sugar’.

irish beauty bloggermakeup geek swatch

It’s a lovely warm brown colour and thought it would fit in nicely with my other brown Makeup Geek browns :p

This shimmery little number is also one of their standards in the shade ‘Cosmopolitan’.

irish beauty blog makeup geekirish beauty blog

I went online and saw swatches of this and thought it looked really interesting, so into the basket it went. It’s a lovely shimmery light bronze colour and super pigmented.

beauty blogger

I popped two Makeup Geek cherries in this Beauty Bay order.

One was to buy one of their duochrome eyeshadows. This is in the shade ‘Typhoon’.

irish makeup and beauty blogbeauty blog ireland

I love a green shadow I have to admit. This is kind of a blue toned one. I don’t have anything like this in my collection.

irish beauty blogger beautynok

The other cherry was to own one their foiled eyeshadows. This is in the colour ‘In The Spotlight’. I am very pleased to get my mitts on this.

Makeup geek Eyeshadowirish beauty blog beautynook

I think this is my favourite of my four new friends. It’s foiled so its super shiny. It applied much better with your finger, you just get a light wash of shimmer if applied with a brush. I am in love with it πŸ™‚

beauty blog beautynook

I’ve mentioned a million times how big a fan I am of Makeup Geek so I am pretty pleased with my new additions and can’t wait to play with them properly.

Have you any Makeup Geek recommendations? I’m always in the market for more πŸ™‚

Thanks,

xxx

Smashbox Contour Stick Trio (4)

Smashbox Contour Stick Trio

Guess what’s on the agenda today? How did you know πŸ™‚ Yes I am waffling allΒ  about the Smashbox Contour Stick Trio. I decided I was going to pick these up with my Boots points, so I had been patiently saving my points and then I went online to browse the Boots website. They were on special for €38…and so… they were bought and the story begins.

So as you can see there is three pencils. A highlighter, a bronzer and then a contour.

Smashbox BeautynookYou get a sharpener in the box too which I think is very necessary as these pencils are really creamy so use up very quickly. I think if you were using these everyday you wouldn’t get a huge amount of time out of them.

Here they are swatched on my arm. You can see how pigmented and creamy they are.

Smashbox Contour Stick Trio SwatchThe highlighting shade is pretty light, I could probably do with a shade lighter for my pale skin, this is the story for most of these kind of things.

The contour shade (in the middle) is a grey toned brown, perfect shade for it. And then the bronze shade is a warmer toned brown for warming up your complexion, as I am sure you know πŸ™‚

So onto using it on my mug.

First up here I am without any of the Smashbox Contour Stick Trio’s applied and some lovely bed hair too πŸ™‚

Irish Beauty BlogI first apply the highlighter stick.

Irish Beauty Blog Highlighter

I applied it under my eyes, the centre of my nose and eyebrows, the tops of my brows and above my cupids bow.

Then the bronzer.

Beautynook Contouring

Contour and Highlighting

Smashbox say use the product in an x formation and I think it does work best because you tend to use less product than just drawing lines around your face.Β  I personally use it around the periphery of my face and then blend it down. You could use the contour shade in the same way too, I just like the warmer shade around my face. I don’t contour my nose or anything like that because I feel that it is pretty small already so I don’t really find it necessary.

I use the contour shade of the Smashbox Contour Stick Trio just on my non existent cheekbones.

Smashbox Contour highlighting

Beautynook Beauty Blog

I am only gorgeous I know πŸ™‚ Again using the x formation around 2/3’s of the way down my cheek. Just follow where you naturally have a hollow. If you’re chubby like me do the fishy face to find out where it is.

So then onto blending. Blending the Smashbox Contour Sticks is actually really easy, they don’t take much work at all. I just use whatever foundation brush I used. I blend the bronze shade into my skin more, whereas with the highlighter and contour shades I keep the blending more isolated to where I applied them.

Cream Highlighting

Cream ContouringYou can see the bronze and the contour shades do warm up my complexion and give a slight illusion of definition on my cheeks, happy days. The highlight shade really doesn’t do a whole load for me, I’m just too pale.

Here is the whole shabang with powders and lipsticks added and the gruaig looking a bit better too.

Beautynook blogOverall, I really like the Smashbox Contour Stick Trio. They are easy to use, easy to blend and the colours are mostly good. They are by no means a necessary step in your makeup routine. For me, I like them for when I want a more pronounced contour for going out. I will layer contour and highlight powders over top. Or for a more subtle highlight, I will just setΒ  the Smashbox Contour Sticks with face powder. Obviously there is tonnes of alternative products to get your chisel on, the sticks are just a handy one as they are small and easy to control. It’s only a matter of time before the highstreet brands are all over it and bring out their own versions. I look forward to that πŸ™‚

What do you think? Let me know.
