A Chatterbox Haul

Over the past couple of weeks I have picked up a few affordable makeup bits in between Christmas shopping for friends and family. I got some really nice goodies so I thought I would share them with you in case you need some shopping inspiration ๐Ÿ™‚

First up I went to Boots, one of my favourite places to be. The waft of perfume as you walk through the door just puts me in a good mood.

I picked up Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Nude foundation.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Foundation

This is a new version of their normal Lasting Finish which is a firm fave here at Chatterbox. This is a lighter version of it. It has a good medium coverage and an SPF of 20 which is great for an everyday foundation.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Swatch

So far I have been loving this, it’s not cakey, the 100 Ivory shade is a good match for my pale skin and it has been lasting really well on my also oily skin. So far a good buy. This set me back โ‚ฌ8.99 in Boots

I got one of Maybelline’s new Color Tattoo Leather Effect Cream shadows to give a go next.

Maybelline Color Tattoo Leather Effect Vintage Plum 97

This is in the colour “Vintage Plum 97”.

I have so many of the Color Tattoos and love most of them. This one is nice, I really like the colour, it makes a great base for plum, brown or purple eye looks. It is matte with no shimmer in it at all. I cannot say it really looks like leather though.

Leather Effect Vintage Plum Swatch

The Color Tattoos are โ‚ฌ7.49 in Boots.

Another cream shadow creeped its way into my Boots basket…ooops ๐Ÿ™‚

Max Factor Excess Shimmer 25 Bronze

This is the Max Factor Excess Shimmer in “25 Bronze”. I am in love with this, let me tell you that from the getgo.

Oh my god the pigment is amazing, a tiny bit of this goes such a long way. The texture is so cool, it’s soft and nearly whipped to the touch unlike the Color Tattoos. It is so easy to blend also.

Max Factor excess shimmer bronze swatch

I can wear this just on its own without a shadow on top. I love the colour too, it’s bronze but with a coppery feel, right up my street.ย  These cost โ‚ฌ9.99 from Boots

Last thing I picked up in Boots was the Maybelline Instant Anti-Age, The Eraser Eye in “Nude”.

Maybelline The Eraser Eye

This is a sponge applicator under eye concealer for cancelling out under eye circles.

The Eraser Eye Swatch

I’m on the fence about this product so far, I think I need to keep using it before I give a true opinion. It costs โ‚ฌ11.99

Soooo, then I did some damage over on Cloud 10 Beauty They had 20% off their whole site for black Friday, I could not resist!! I firstly picked up the cult product that is The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer.

The Balm Mary-Lou ManizerMary-Lou Manizer

So many of you told me I needed this over on social media, so thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ It is such a pretty gold toned highlighter. It is ridiculously shimmery but there is not lumpy sparkle in it which I think is what makes it so pretty and wearable.

Mary Lou-Manizer swatch

You don’t have to look like a disco ball to get a highlighted effect. You can pick this up from Cloud 10 for โ‚ฌ19.00

I picked up a Blank Canvas Cosmetics brush.

Blank Canvas Cosmetics E30 Brush

This is the E30 eyebrow brush. I wanted an angled eyebrow brush with a spooly on the end and this fit the bill, also the ends are purple how cute ๐Ÿ™‚ This cost me โ‚ฌ6.95

I got one of the Sleek Eye and Cheek Palette in “See You At Midnight 028”.

Sleek Eye & Cheek Palette See You At Midnight 028028 See You At Midnight

I have only gotten my hands on this today so I have yet to try it out properly, but on first look and swatch I really like it.

See You At Midnight Swatch

It is very winter appropriate. Plums, purple, cranberry and gold galore. There is two blush shades “Antique” in the top left corner and “Pomegranate” in the bottom right and then 4 eyeshadows from The Vintage Romance iDivine palette. Can’t wait to get stuck into it ๐Ÿ™‚ I think this is the best deal out of everything at โ‚ฌ12.95

I got another Sleek product from Cloud 10 Beauty.

Eau La La Liner Cocoa 327Cocoa 327

Another Eau La La Liner to add to my collection. This is the shade “Cocoa 327”. Nothing much to say about it, it’s a matte chocolate brown eyeliner.

Eau La La Liner Cocoa

I love these liners, I have them in so many colours, but not in dark brown so I picked one up. This will set you back โ‚ฌ5.99

I also got a couple of other random things so I thought I would throw them into the list too for good measure.

I got this when Iย  was buying the other bits on Cloud 10.

Daniel Galvin Junior Hangover Hair

This is the Daniel Galvin Junior Hangover Hair. My hair needs a bit of TLC and this was cheap and organic so I thought I would give it a go, no real thought process there. I will report back if it is any good. It is โ‚ฌ4.49

Lastly, these are definitely not beauty based, but they are beautiful ๐Ÿ™‚

New Look Teach ShoesNew Look Asos Shoes

These are New Look heels that I ordered from Asos when they were having 20% off for black Friday. I just thought they were so festive and sparkly and also the heel is thick and respectable not a look I go for very often ๐Ÿ™‚ Full price, these are โ‚ฌ39.99, so not bad at all, I am sure I will get alot of use out of them over the festive season.

I think that’s it, if you have made it to the end of this let me know, I know it’s a rambly one ๐Ÿ™‚ Did you get any amazing bargains in the sales yet?

Thanks so much for reading and for the support.

Rimmel Stay Matte

I may have mentioned once or twice in the past, I have skin that sometimes resembles a chip pan?

Well I do. And I try alot of products to help ebb it as much as possible. Lets be real, nothing gets rid of it, but some things are better than others at keeping it at bay for longer periods of time before the blotting sheets have to make an appearance.

Rimmel do some amazing base products, aswell as alot of other fab products. I have tried and tested ALOT of them over the years and although I switch and change things up regularly, and can tend to have expensive taste, Rimmel has still stayed in the makeup collection and is picked up consistently in the morning time when putting on the face.

Here are three products that have won my heart (and my skin) over, and ironically they are all from Rimmel’s Stay Matte range…go figure ๐Ÿ™‚

First up, is their Stay Matte Primer. This would be the newest one of the three to me. I have only started using it over the past few months.

Rimmel Stay Matte Primer

I usually go for a silicone based primer, I find it better for my skin as I am plagued with large pores. The Rimmel Stay Matte is a white primer (don’t worry it blends in, you cannot see it).

Rimmel Stay Matte Primer swatch

It has a dry texture which I like as it leaves a matte layer on the skin all ready to apply foundation. It does not feel greasy or heavy. I use it as my daily primer, it does the job perfectly well and keeps my makeup on for a long enough time. You can also use this over your foundation if you feel it will work better for you that way.I have yet to find a primer that will not let the shine through after a few hours, so this does a good enough job as all the others and it is a bargain at 7.99euro from Boots or any other Rimmel stockists of course.

Next up is the Rimmel Stay Matte foundation.

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation

This foundation has a mousse like formula to it.

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation SwatchRimmel Stay Matte Foundation Swatch

I find it easy to work with though, and have used either my fingers, a dense brush or even a Beauty Blender to apply it. As the name would suggest it is a mattifying oil free foundation so there is no dewiness here if that’s what you are in the market for. The Rimmel Match Perfection would be more up your alley for that. I find the Stay Matte does not lie in my pores but with a primer underneath blends over and diminishes them. This would be a medium to full coverage foundation depending on how you apply it and it has yet to oxidise on my skin after wear which is brilliant, as I find alot of foundations can do this on my oily skin. Also, it is another bargain coming in at 7.79 from Boots

Last up for setting the liquid part of your makeup routine, which is an absolute must for me. I could not go out of the house without this step. Here is one my favourite setting powders, the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder

This is a very natural looking setting powder perfect for during the day and perfect for having in your handbag for touch ups. It does have very slight coverage too, if your foundation is not quite cutting it for you.

Rimmel Powder

It comes in a few different shades. There are yellow toned and pink toned ones to choose from which is handy. Again, this is a matte finish product, it is not chalky, and I think it does a very good job at keeping the oil at bay, even dry skinned gals can get oily around the t-zone, so it is always a good idea to add even a little bit of powder there. The Rimmel Stay Matte Powder has become a bit of a cult product in its own right and most makeup lovers will have a stash of it somewhere and I can really understand why. And of course with it being Rimmel, this is the biggest bargain out of the three retailing in Boots for 5.99euro.

So there you have it, matte skin on a budget. I can say I have tried and tested all three of these products and they all do a great job either as a stand alone product or used in conjunction with each other.

Rimmel are a great brand over all, and are really dominating the high street makeup market. I wonder what they have in store for us next…

Do you have a favourite from Rimmel? Let me know ๐Ÿ™‚

Rimmel Provocalips Chatterbox.ie

I posted a picture on Facebook of my Rimmel Provocalips I had just gotten and was loving, and you peeps seems to be a tad interested. So, I figured I would do a quick blog post on them in case you were thinking of adding some to your lippie collection in the near future. I was even so dedicated that I went out and bought two more…all in the name of blog research I assure you ๐Ÿ™‚

The Provocalips are the next level after the Apocalips from Rimmel. To be honest, I bought a couple of these when they came out, but they didn’t float my boat as much as some of the other offering of liquid lipsticks on the market, so they never made it onto Chatterbox.

The Provocalip however, I am enjoying alot. They are a similar to the Apocalips in theory, but they are less sticky and gunky and easier to wear in my opinion.

I am notย  huge fan of the packaging of the Provocalips. This is completely a personal preference, it’s a bit childish and cheap for me, but I don’t mark them down for that as it’s as your mammy always says, it’s what is on the inside that counts.

The product comes in two phases. Step one is colour and step two is the lock & shine.

They both have doe-foot applicators.

Provocalips

The colour part is rich, pigmented and goes on pretty smooth, you can get away with only one layer if you are in a hurry or don’t want the full whack of colour. I myself go for at least two. The colour dries down on your lips pretty quickly and is a bit sticky to the touch but makes your lips feel like they have a mask on too if that makes sense? It’s not the nicest of sensations.

This is when you add the lock & shine. I will say this is a bit messy, the lock & shine is clear and the applicator is white, you will inevitably get the colour on it and ruin the appearance. This doesn’t really bother again as you cannot see through the tube so no one else has to see what you are working with.

Gloss&Lock Rimmel

The lock & shine doesn’t quite offer it’s namesake in my opinion. It locks in the colour, allows your lips to move again after the colour restricting them a bit from drying in. Oh it also smells nice which helps too ๐Ÿ™‚ The shine doesn’t last very long, it is like a top coat and wears away quickly. For me, this is perfect, I only crave a really glossy lip once or twice a year. It gives a bit of slip to your lips without being sticky or annoying so that’s great but I would take the word shine with a grain of salt.

Now, your lips are locked and loaded and ready to go, Rimmel says Provocalips are 16 hour lip colours. I have never worn one for 16 hours so I cannot verify this. I will say I have worn them all through a work day, with breakfast and lunch in between and although the colour is not still perfectly there on your lips, it is definitely still there! I’ve made the mistake of brushing my teeth after coming in from work and getting a lovely ring of colour all around the toothbrush head…lovely! On a side note, when I was taking pictures of them on my lips, I had to do each colour on completely separate occasions because once the colour was on it was a nightmare to try get off completely. Thank god I only have three ๐Ÿ™‚

So, to show you the colours I have on the lips.

We have the first one I bought.

200 “I’ll Call You”

Then, the other two I bought together.

500 “Kiss Me You Fool”

500 Kiss me you foolRimmel Provocalips 500swatch 500 Kiss Me You Fool500 Kiss Me You Fool

Nice no?

I apologise to all of you nude lip fans out there, there was two of them in the Provocalip collection (that I could see on the shelf), but nude lips really don’t suit me most of the time, so I picked up the ones I would get the most use out of, the dusky pink, the blue tone hot pink and of course the red.

I bought the Provocalips in Boots. They do not seem to have them on the Irish Boots site yet, but in store they are 8.99euro. A pretty mid range price in my opinion.

So what do we think of them? Do they wet your whistle at all? Be sure to let me know.

And if there is anything else, you would like me to review or any feedback at all, leave us a comment down below, I love to chat ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks,

Soooooo…I bought some stuff to make my mid week a little easier (any excuse). Want to see?

First up I hit H&M for some accessories, god I love their accessories! And they are so reasonably priced.

H&M earring and rings

I picked up some fab gold sparkly earrings, and some gold rings that you can wear together on one hand or on their own whichever you prefer. I love the chunky look so I plan on wearing them together.

Then I popped into Boots for some essentials.

First up for me was the Soap & Glory stand.

Soap & Glory Orangeasm

I can never be without the Soap & Glory Sugar Crush Body Wash range. It smells like an ice cream coke float and I love it! Boots were doing 3 for 2 on skincare so I picked up the tried and tested Butter Yourself Moisture Lotion. I have spoken about this before, you use it on wet skin and let it sink in before you dry, aswell as the newly released body wash Orangeasm. Cannot wait to give this a go!

Another essential was some face wipes. Now I don’t use face wipes every day, but they are so handy to have there if you have gotten in late and want to get your makeup off fast, or if you went heavy with the eye makeup and your cleanser or face wash needs some help.

IMG_3917

So I picked up the Botanics All Bright cleansing wipes. I have used and really liked the face wash from this range, so excited to see if the wipes are any good.

As I was walking by the Rimmel stand in Boots, I couldn’t help but notice a couple of new additions. So for research purposes of course I had to pick them up ๐Ÿ™‚

I got the Rimmel Pop Art Top Coat polish from the Rita Ora range.

Rimmel Pop Art!Rimmel Rita Ora

I thought this looked so cute and fun for an accent nail with a corresponding colour.

I got the new Rimmel Provocalips lip colour too in the shade 200 “I’ll Call You”.

Rimmel ProvocalipsRimmel 200 I'll Call You

These are a dual ended product. The colour is on one end and then there is a “lock and shine” gloss on the other end to add on top.

IMG_3913I love this dusky rose shade. I think it’s perfect for Autumn.

Because I spent over 12 euro on Rimmel, I got the Lash Accelerator Endless Mascara for free.Lash Accelelerator EndlessRimmel Mascara

I have never tried it before, so excited to give this a go.

As I have no self control, I then popped along to The Cosmetics Outlet to see what bargains Paul had stocked on the shelves. Another Rimmel product was purchased!

Rimmel Moisture Renew 320Rimmel Funtime Fuschia

One of their tried and trusted Moisture Renew Lipsticks. I picked up the shade 320 Funtime Fuchsia.

Rimmel Swatch

I then picked up the L’Oreal Skin Perfection Advanced Correcting Serum…that’s a mouthful!

L'Oreal Skin perfection Advanced Correcting Serum

I have been wanting to try this for a while. Paul had it in stock so it had to be bought.

L'Oreal

This serum is supposed to help with the appearance of pores, something which I suffer from. I will give it a go for a while and report back.

Last but not least Paul was kind enough to give myself a set of his Madison Brushes to try.

IMG_3903

These are natural haired brushes that he developed himself and are exclusively sold in The Cosmetics Outlet.

In the set you get:

  • A lip brush
  • Small shadow brush
  • Angle shadow brush
  • Eye shadow Brush
  • Stippling Brush
  • Foundation Brush
  • Powder Brush

The set also comes in a handy brush bag for easy transportation

So there you have it, another mid week haul to get your shopping juices flowing.

Thanks for reading. Be sure to let me know if you’ve bought anything nice recently ๐Ÿ™‚

This week I went on a little mid week break to Belfast.I really enjoyed getting away from it all for a minute, and it was long overdue. Of course shopping ensued.

I thought I haul some of the bits and pieces I bought before the trip and during to get your shopping juices flowing for the weekend. Also, don’t know about you but I am a nosey sod and love looking in other people’s shopping baskets ๐Ÿ™‚

I bought a couple of bits in the Boohooย  sale before I left.

Boohoo shoes

Coral and black heel

These coral and black beauties were only 12 Euro in the sale! Couldn’t resist, these will come in so handy with jeans and dresses alike.

Rose gold heels

Boohoo metallic heels

These heels were again 12 Euro in the sale. Little bit more “out there” than the black and coral ones I know, but I fell in love with the copper metallic colour of them. I think these will be great for Autumn.

Bohoo multicolour earrings

I got a cute pair of earrings from Boohoo as well. They are multi coloured and sparkley…what more can I say ๐Ÿ˜›

Bohoo braceletes

And lastly I got some gold little bracelets. I love to layer bracelets so I will add these to some others I have lying around to give a plain outfit a bit of interest.

I also bought something from Dunnes Stores online before I left and picked them up from the store the day before we left.

Dunnes Stores Studded Court Heel

IMG_3431

These Valentino rip offs are so pretty I promise you. They are 40 Euro which is a bit steep for Dunnes I know, but in the flesh these are well made. Get them quick before they’re all gone!

En route to Belfast, we made a pitstop to Dundalk, so I could go to Mise Beauty I’ve bought from them online in the past but have never saw the shop in the flesh as I live in Dublin, so to go there was a real treat. I picked up a couple of bits and pieces but will definitely be going back in the future.

Pixi Glow TonicI had to pick up the Pixi Glow Tonic . I’ve heard so many things about this in the blogosphere so “needed” to see what all the fuss was about. This is an exfoliating cleanser with glycolic acid, Aloe Vera and Ginseng in it to remove dead skin cells, soothe and nourish the skin. Can’t argue with that!

zpalette

I grabbed some Zpalettes while I was there. I love nothing more than depotting my shadows and blushes into these beauties. I’ve alsoย  made some cheeky purchases from Makeupgeek that will need new homes, so these will come in very handy. You do not come across Zpalettes very often on shop shelves in Ireland so I admit I was very excited seeing this being stocked in Mise Beauty.

Sleek Matte Me

Sleek Party Pink

My last buy from the makeup lovers dream Mise Beauty was a Sleek Matte Lip Cream in “Party Pink”. I love these lip creams. They are matte but not too drying on the lips and last all day. This colour is a gorge red, coraly shade. I think I will get alot of use out of this in the coming Autumnal months.

I reckon I was quite reserved in Mise considering the brands they have an offer there, don’t you? ๐Ÿ™‚

I bought a couple of bits while roaming around Belfast’s city centre. I first hit Spacenk I couldn’t resist having a look.

Nars Dual Intensity Eyeshadow

I got one of the Nars Dual Intensity Eyeshadows. These are exclusive to Spacenk and are stupid money I must admit (21 pound!!!) These shadows are designed specifically to use wet and dry. I picked up the shade “Phoebe” which is a beautiful metallic purple colour.

Nars

Nars Phoebe

Nars Phoebe Swatched Dry

Nars Phoebe Swatched Dry

Nars Phoebe Swatched Wet

Nars Phoebe Swatched Wet

Lastly I have a couple of random buys.

Herbel Essence Dry Shampoo

I needed some dry shampoo whilst there so picked up this one that I hadn’t seen before. This is Herbal Essences offering to the dry shampoo world. It smells exactly like old school Herbal Essence which I love! And after using it a couple of times I can say it’s not bad at its job at all. The smell does it for me though I’d buy it again for that alone ๐Ÿ™‚

Rimmel Lip Balm

I got one of Rimmel’s version of the Maybelline Babyย  Lips. I actually really like this and it was cheaper than the Baby Lips. Maybelline is stupidly overpriced in Europe compared to the States. This one gives you a lovely purple tinge to your lips while hydrating them. This will be kept in the handbag forever more.

Finally, is something that is maybe a late 20’s crisis purchase.

Snap back

I bought a snap back! I have visions of being really cool and trendy and wearing this backwards and I want to so much. I am digging the 90’s revival….let’s just see if I have the bottle ๐Ÿ™‚

I am back in Dublin now and have to go back to work on Monday and am sooooo not looking forward to it ๐Ÿ™ Belfast is a lovely town steeped in culture, we had a lovely time there.

Hope you enjoyed my random purchases, if you like looking in my shopping bags be sure to let me know and I can do more of this.

Thanks,

Gemma

Face Powder

The warmer weather is kinda…sorta coming our way. It’s about bloody time! So we all need to keep the shine at bay a little bit more throughout the day. For oilier skinned girls like me it means packing even more on, but don’t fret it means you’ll have less wrinkles as you get older apparently if you have oily skin ๐Ÿ˜›

I am going to list in this post my most used setting powders. I personally think it’s good to have a range of powders in your stash. Your skin likes to keep you on your toes and some days are different than others, so you might want more coverage perhaps if you are going to be out all day or it’s that time of the month and you’re looking more flushed than normal. Or maybe you’re having a good skin day and you just want a light powder, or if your going out on the town you might want a different coloured one (to match the tan) or one with some luminosity. I think I cover all the bases here without breaking the bank.

First up is my very well loved (and battered) Stay Matte Pressed Powder by Rimmel.

Rimmel Stay Matte PowderRimmel Matte Powder

I have about 4 of these floating around including one in my handbag. This is a great everyday setting powder. It’s light in texture so does not give any real coverage, but mattifies the skin without looking cakey and lasts really well.Rimmel

This has a number and colour (005, silky beige), but I feel like it’s pretty transparent on my pale skin anyways. The best thing about this powder? Not only is it great, but it’s a steal at 5.99 from Boots

Next up is a bit more pricey, but it’s good at its job, I promise:

Mac Studio Fix PowderMac pressed powder

This is Mac’s Studio Fix. This is actually a pressed powder foundation, which means it gives extra coverage on the days when you need it! My one here is NC20

Mac studio fix nc20

This matches by natural skin tone, but I usually have a darker one knocking about too for when I’m a bit more (fake) tanned as this is a great powder to bring on a night out for touch ups. I love this powder it’s nice and smooth and smooths over pores and fine lines rather than settling into them like some others can do. You can get this in any Mac store. They sell it in Brown Thomas and on their website for 31.50.

I have two choices next:

Ben Nye Cameo PowderBen Nye Banana Powder

These are two Ben Nye Luxury Powders. Ben Nye is a brand of makeup designed to be used in theatre and film. I love these powders, and these 42gram pots will last me a lifetime.

Ben NyeBen Nye

The Ben Nye Powders are really finely milled. The Cameo Powder has a slight pink tint to it which is good for my pink toned complexion on a normal day to day basis. The banana powder is yellow toned so is a great all over powder for someone who has a more sallow complexion. If I am going all out with my makeup and am heavy contouring I like to use Cameo under my eyes and anywhere on the face I want to lighten and then I’ll use the Banana Powder wherever I am creating shadow and darkening. These powders are a lovely texture, do not cake on the skin and do not clog pores and they definitely set your makeup as well as adding a hint of colour, just use a light hand ๐Ÿ™‚ The only irish website I can find these on is Sunaura for 21 euro which I think is a bit steep as I got my Banana one last year at Imats for 10 pound. They are fab products though.

So yes you want powder to mattify and set your makeup, but this doesn’t always mean you need to use a matte powder. I have two options here that you can pick in Boots, that cover this:

Bourjois Illuminating Powder

This is the Bourjois Java Rice Loose Powder, how pretty is this old school packaging? This powder smells amazing too by the way, added bonus ๐Ÿ™‚ For me and my skin this is not an everyday powder, but if I am looking for a bit of a glow I dip into this pot.

Bourjois illuminating powder beautynook

This powder has light reflecting particles in it, it just borders on glitter so use with caution. Brushed lightly over the skin this gives a lovely glow without having to use cream products to achieve it. I like to use this in the inner corners of my eyes too for a subtle highlight during the day. You can buy this from Boots for 13.99 This is a more pinky powder. If you are looking for something that is perhaps a bit more warmer in tone and has a more gold sheen to it Sleek Makeup have a powder for you:

Sleek Luminous Pressed PowderThis also has Spf 15 so it may have some flashback if you are thinking about it for a night out. This is Sleek’s Luminous Pressed Powder.Sleek Makeup

I have the shade 01 which I believe is the lightest shade. It doesn’t give any coverage really in my opinion, but it does set your makeup and has a subtle gold shimmer running through it, to liven up your face and give it some luminosity. I love using this powder when I am finished my makeup and have used a setting powder (because I am super oily) and this is a light powder, just lightly all over my face, to give an extra glow. You can get this in Boots too, or on Cloud10beauty, or the Sleek website itself and it’ll set you back 8.99, not too bad at all ๐Ÿ™‚

So there you have it, a few powdery options for you if you are looking to switch it up or just add to your collection for different makeup tasks. A girl likes to have options!

Thanks for reading,

Gemma
