October Favourites

A fresh month means a fresh start…..and monthly favourites 🙂 In this post and video we are delving into my October Favourites.

October Favourites

October Favourites for this year consist of all beauty products with one fashion fave! It’s been a bit of a pain in the arse of a month, I won’t lie. So I am very happy to see the end of it. Also, Halloween isn’t my favourite time of the year. Banger scare the bejesus outta me. I spent Halloween night cleaning up dog pee. Poor Rosie doesn’t like them either. I’m sure she is happy to see November come too 🙂

As always I’ll list all the products I mention and link what I can.

  • Missguided Babe Powder EDP. I found is cheapest from Cara Pharmacy here.
  • The perfume I am comparing it too is the Dior Poison Elixir. This is a really old perfume, actually I didn’t realise how old it it! I don’t actually use this bottle, I just kept it cos’ it’s fancy 🙂 I can’t seem to find it for sale online anymore. Brown Thomas have an eau de toilette version here.
  • I speak about the L’Occitane Shower Oil next. I have this link in my haul video here.
  • Barry M Liquid Chrome Highlighter Drops. I did a whole blogpost with swatches on these here.
  • Elf Mineral Primer. You can get your hands on this in Penneys. It seems to be the cheapest online in the EU from Superdrug here.
  • The Too Faced Hangover 3 in 1 Replenishing Primer And Setting Spray. Yes that is a mouthful 🙂 You can buy it from the Debenhams website here.
  • And then my last October favourite for this year is some very loud ankle boots from Penneys. I make no apologies, I love them 🙂

It’s been a minute since I did a makeup look on my YouTube channel. I always call them looks rather than tutorials. I feel like the word tutorial is more professional, and I am definitely not that. In makeup or video form 🙂 I created this rose gold sparkle eye makeup look a couple of weeks ago and snapped an Instagram of it.

Rose Gold Sparkle Eye Makeup Look

I was super happy with how it turned out and I got some good interaction on social media from it. So, I thought I would recreate it in video form. To show you what I used, how I did it. And, just how simple it was.

The main components of this rose gold sparkle makeup look is my beloved Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette. I am so sorry, I have literally not shut up about this palette, I know. But I have just been enjoying using it so bloody much. And, I have to stay true to what I used on the day, right? I have a review of it here, so I won’t bore you with the details.

The glitter came in the form of the Stila Magnificent Metals Eyeshadow in Rose Gold Retro. I have a post on this here too. I find although this is a cream eyeshadow, I do get fall out. So I used the NYX Glitter Primer underneath. I picked this up in Boots here. Of course any sort of adhesive base would do the job.

These along with the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide on Eye Pencil in Torch were the main products I used to create the eye look. I got this from Debenhams, but it’s actually cheaper from Feel Unique here.

I also mentioned my lip combo in my Insta post, so I recreated that too. It’s a very ‘me’ combo. Rimmel Eastend Snob lip liner all over the lips, with Mac Syrup lippie over top. Mauve and neutral. My go too lip colour for the past few months.

I totally got bored taking photos of myself 🙂

Obviously you can see create the rose gold glitter makeup look over on my YouTube channel here. Or you can just click on the video above to watch also.

Be sure to let me know what you think!

Thanks for tuning in, as always.

I wanted to talk a bit about primer for oily skin types.

primer for oily skin

Chip pan skin is my jam, with some dehydration in certain areas too. Although, I think this little discussion will help other skin types aswell. I wanted the title to be ‘primer for oily skin’, because that’s what I know about best.

primer for oily skin

I spoke briefly on social media about mixing primers and I got some questions about it. Also, a couple of people said they would never think to use more than one.

This is me just talking about personal opinion. I just wanted to put that out there. I am a makeup lover, not a beauty expert by any means.

I think of mixing primers like mixing any other makeup or skincare products. One of my favourite things to do is mix foundation. Different finishes, different tones. I think primer falls into that bracket too.

I’ll use the two examples I put up on Instagram.

These are two of my favourite primer (s) for oily skin.

The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer. (You can buy it here).

And Benefit’s The Porefessional. (Buy online here).

With applying primer, I do find less it more. Too much can undo the barrier you are trying to create with it.

I love both of these in their own right as a primer for oilier, more combination skin. But, I’ve been really enjoying using both of these together in the warmer weather. I use the silicone primer all over, just a really light layer. Not all silicone based primers cut the mustard for me. I spoke about the L’Oréal one here a while ago that I only find OK.

After The Ordinary Primer settles into the skin, I pat some of Porefessional into my T Zone. I have really big pores and Porefessional works like putty to fill them in, again using the patting method. It works great on scars and fine lines too!

Both together gives me a nice flat base for my makeup, and of course helps everything last longer on my skin too.

This is just my go to cocktail of the minute. It will work with all different primers. It’s just fun to play around with them and find what works for your skin. There is no need to use two different products whatsoever, one is just fine, I just like to experiment.

That’s the great thing about makeup, right? 🙂

New makeup alert! I’ve had an abundance of new makeup come in over the past few weeks.

Some are PR samples, some I bought myself, some were gifts from a friend and some are not new out, just new to me.

When I put them all side by side together, I realised there was nearly a full makeup face within them. I definitely had to add in product that I’ve spoken about before, but sure that stuff might be new to you as well!

After my latest blogpost here, where I talk about Summer Makeup Essentials. I thought it would be a good idea to use this as inspiration and create a really simple Summer makeup look.

I didn’t go in too heavy with base products. I just wanted to even out any redness. Some freckles and blemishes are definitely still peeping through, but sure that’s just life 🙂

xxx    ****PR SAMPLES INCLUDED****

Since the sun is shining, don’t say that too loud, we might spook it! But, since it is, I thought I would put together some of my summer makeup essentials. This isn’t so much about the products, just dive into your collection and see what you have already to play with.

summer makeup essentials

These are products I have in my stash right now. I love shopping my stash, especially when a new season begins.

summer makeup essentials

Summer makeup for me, is about a light base and having fun with everything else.

My skin tends to behave itself a little bit more in the summer months so I can spend less time on my base. It still needs help though!

My Summer makeup will always consist of primers. I have oily skin.

irish beauty blog

I just find adding a few dabs of it to the t zone and blending it out over my whole face, really helps with the longevity of anything I put on top of it. Eyeshadow primer is another must for me. All year round, but particularly in the warmer months. Oily lids are no joke! I am really enjoying The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer (you can buy it here) and Benefit Porefessional has always been a holy grail for me.

irish beauty blogger

Because I use a more mattifying primer, I find I can go a little bit more dewy and light with the foundation.

beauty blog ireland

If I know I am going to be out in the sun for a long period of time, I will of course use sun protection on my face. However, it does tend to melt my makeup. So, if I am going somewhere that is more shaded, I’ll use a foundation with SPF.

beauty blogger ireland

One very important Summer makeup essential for me, is coloured eye liners.

beauty blog

Whether it be liquid, gel, waterproof pencil, or pencil with eyeshadow over top, this is something I cannot get enough of in Summer. It is just such a fun way to add something to your makeup without trying too hard. I love applying a slick of it across the lash line. If I am feeling extra daring, I’ll even attempt to wing it out. Adding a pop of colour to your water line too is a lovely way to incorporate a hint of colour to a makeup look aswell. I used the Nyx Vivid Brights Liner here in a makeup look last Summer.

top irish beauty website

Without waterproof mascara, I am a basic lash person.

top irish beauty blog

My lashes are straight and need waterproof mascara to hold a curl. It is imperative in the Summer time too though. It is a bitch to get off, but a decent waterproof mascara means you don’t have to worry about panda eyes behind your sunglasses. Or if you suffer with watery eyes, you are less inclined to have black marks down your cheeks. I talk about two of my favourites pictured here and here.

top irish beauty blogger

My last Summer makeup essential is a glossy lip. I never thought I would say those words, but glossy lip products have come such a long way.

irish beauty website

They don’t have to be sticky and they can be super long wearing and colourful too. Products like the Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors are great. They add shine with a hint of colour as well as nourish the lips. So handy to throw in your bag for top ups throughout the day.

Shout out to Rosie for helping me take the photos!

And, I will stop rambling 🙂 Have you any Summer makeup essentials?

I jumped in at the deep end with the new Benefit The Porefessional Pore Minimizing Makeup.

beauty blogger irelandThis very cute package arrived the other day from Benefit with all four products from the range.

Benefit The Porefessional Pore Minimizing Makeup

I thought I would do a complete first impressions video using everything including the new Benefit The Porefessional Pore Minimizing Makeup.

Benefit The Porefessional Pore Minimizing Makeup

I’ve used the Benefit The Porefessional Primer many times before over the years and do really like it. So, my first impressions are of the other three products that are newer in the range. The Matte Rescue, Agent Zero Shine and the Pore Minimizing Makeup that was the whole point of the press release 🙂

beauty blog ireland

Obviously you don’t have to buy all four products, they are pretty pricey! But if you do, I go through and use all four step by step. And also, I don’t read the instructions on the makeup and do a really bad blogger job of showing it in action 🙂 I think I make a pretty decent comeback in the end though so don’t judge me on that, k?

Here’s a before and after of the first three products minus powder and obviously eyes and brows done aswell.

Then here is my skin with all four products applied with the added makeup accoutrements 🙂

If you click on the video either above or directly on my YouTube channel here, you can see them all in action one by one, my first impressions and how my makeup fared throughout the day. I do a check in after wearing them for about six hours.

The whole Benefit The Porefessional range is available from Benefit retailers nationwide with the Pore Minimizing Makeup coming this month. You can have a closer look at the products on the Boots website here. Anything take your fancy?
