I don’t think there’s one person in the world who enjoys the task of cleaning their makeup brushes. If you do I applaud you, for me it’s a menial task. However, the aftermath is so rewarding, seeing all of the white fluffy head peaking out of their flower pot homes πŸ™‚

Brush Cleaning Tips

How I clean my makeup brushes is not a new way or a fancy way (have you seen the machines you can buy now to do it?) but it gets the job done and it gets my makeup brushes and sponges squeaky clean.

Over the years of being a makeup fanatic I have accumulated alot of makeup brushes, so it does take me a while to get through them and then that means when I run out of clean ones, I have a pretty mammoth job on my hands. I change up my foundation brush probably every three uses, of course you can just wash as you go, I just have a few to procrastinate with πŸ™‚

simple makeup brush cleaning tipsBrush cleaning mats have become the norm in the makeup world. Sigma and Real Techniques have their own versions of them. They’re basically just a gripped rubber surface and so people have found cheaper alternatives be it in the household department (rubber gloves work great too), in Penneys, Dealz, or for me I found mine in the body care aisle of Boots.

irish beauty blog

This is the Massage Glove from Soap & Glory. I first saw Anna from ViviannaDoesMakeup using this. It’s rubber, it has grips and you can slip your hand into it for added pressure on your brushes. Even better news a lovely reader told me she saw these being sold off in her local Boots for nearly half the RRP, score!

In the past, I’ve used the Massage Glove in conjunction with baby shampoo and this works well, but for more stubborn makeup brushes like tightly packed kabuki ones, it can be a labour of love trying to get the bristles really clean.

There are specifically formulated brush cleansers too which are great but can be hard to come by. I saw alot of people using naturally derived soaps, and the Moogoo Fresh Milk Cleansing Bar has been spoken about very highly to get the job done well, so I had to give it a go. It contains Olive Oil (which is another great deep brush cleanser in it’s own right) and Cocoa Butter.

I take the massage glove on my hand. Another reason why I like the glove is that it protects your hand from the soap and water. I am not a fan of crinkly fingers πŸ™‚

irish makeup and beauty bloggerSwirl it in the bar of soap a few times.

top irish beauty siteI am firm enough to get into the base of the bristles, but I am conscious of the ferrule and the handle as if they can get damaged from water getting in, the bristles or even the actual brush head can become loose.

irish youtuberyoutube irelandflawless makeup brushsimple makeup brush cleaning tipsWhen it comes to eyeshadow brushes, if I have only used them for powder products, I usually grab a few that are of similar length and clean them together.

irish blogirish bloggerirish vloggerirish beauty youtubeWhen I am finished soaping up πŸ™‚ I lay a towel on the floor under a radiator and place all of my makeup brushes down along it.

top blog irelandThe towel helps absorb excess moisture and then if the radiator is on the residual heat helps the drying process too. If I need some of the brushes in a hurry I’ll put a few of them alot the top of the rad too, not ideal, but needs must πŸ™‚

top blogger irelandOf course if you lived in a hotter drier climate you could just use your window sill, or you can just air dry them or even put them in the hot press, whatever works for you!

And there you have it, my makeup brushes are now hygienically clean but also any product staining is also gone too, which is not always achieved with other methods.

Be sure to let me know if you found this helpful and if you have any brush cleaning tips or tricks πŸ™‚

In the bottle this to me smells really nice. I’ve yet to use it so cannot comment on how good it actually is…I’ll keep you posted πŸ™‚ It’s liquid in the bottle and then pump releases it in a mousse formula. This costs €10.95 for a 200ml bottle.

Their Velvet Finishing Gel according to the creators is:

  • Skin soothing hydrating
  • has a non greasy finish
  • Has even coverage
  • Has patented mood enhance fragrance technology

irish beauty blog

It has the same clean smell in the tube as the others and will set you back €10.95 for 175mls

The last product from the St Moritz new releases I have is their Fast Response Tanning Mist.

I have actually given this a go (if you follow me on snapchat, you would have seen πŸ™‚ )

beauty blog ireland

I applied it to my legs with a mitt, I wouldn’t suggest using your hands with this. It applied really easily, smelled nice going on and dried super quickly too. I am quite pasty and left it on for about 2 and half hours. It gave me a hint of colour, but I did have to go over with an instant tan to bulk it up a little. I would definitely have to keep it on for longer. This costs €10.95 for a 150ml can.

There is also a Insta-Grad Tanning Mousse in the St Moritz New Releases. I don’t have it in my possession though. According to them it:

  • Gives instant colour
  • Instant tan and gradual build up

So there you have it, all theΒ St Moritz new releases in a nutshell πŸ™‚ A product to suit every tanning mood. Any of them take your fancy?

I already reviewed the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte Foundation last year. After using it for a while I thought it was good but nothing really special.

L'Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte Foundation

I have since deleted that post, because I have been using it a lot over the past few months and I have properly fallen in love with it. It has converted me and I am not too proud to admit it πŸ™‚

irish makeup and beauty blogger

I have a few foundations in rotation, but I think out of them all, I have been reaching for the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte Foundation the most.

I know I say it in probably every post, but I have oily skin, so this type of foundation should really tick all of the boxes for me. L’Oreal say it has a medium texture, high coverage and shine control. I don’t know about shine control because I always powder my foundation. It does set to a matte finish though and the other two I can somewhat agree with. I have seen the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte Foundation being compared to the Estee Lauder Doublewear online, and I can kind of get it. Although, I think it has a lighter consistency than Doublewear and it has a lighter finish on the skin. Sure, I let you have a look for yourself πŸ™‚ I use the shade 11 Vanilla and it’s a pretty good match for myΒ  Mac NC20 skin tone.

top irish bloggertop irish blog

Here is my skin with just primer on it.

irish beauty blog

Then, here is one layer of the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Foundation, buffed in with a Real Techniques Buffing Brush brush. I apply it with the nozzle of the tube onto my face.

irish beauty bloggertop irish beauty blogOn my skin, one layer gives medium coverage. It covers any light imperfections and somewhat blurs pores.

I like to add another light layer to my problem areas though…which is kind of all over, not gonna lie. πŸ™‚

top irish beauty bloggerirish makeup and beauty blogThe L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Mattifying Foundation, is actually really easy to layer. It doesn’t cake up on my skin, or look too dry or heavy. Although it has really good coverage and covers what I want it to cover, it doesn’t mask my skin either. I think this is a very rare thing for a matte, good coverage foundation.

It doesn’t oxidize or separate throughout the day. I will get shiny and have to powder my t zone, but nothing major, and the shine won’t kick in until about the 4th or so hour of wear. For me, that’s pretty good so I’m not complaining.

If you have normal skin or even a little combination (how lucky are you) and enjoy a more matte finish to your foundation without adding powder, I think the LOreal Infallible 24 HR Mattifying Foundation could work for you too.

In the words of Baby’s father to Johnny Castle, ‘When I’m wrong, I say I’m wrong’, this is definitely one of those instances for me πŸ™‚

You can pick up the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Mattifying Foundation instore from Boots or online here. It will set you back 12.29.

I have been wanting to try one of theBalm Meet Matte Hughes for bloody ages now. Cloud10beauty had an awesome discount code out a couple of weeks ago (which they often have) and so I took this as a sign to pick one up πŸ™‚

top irish beauty blog

This is theBalm Meet Matte Hughes Longlasting Liquid Lipstick in the shade Charming.

irish beauty blogger

I am a big lover of the mauve lip colour trend, so Charming fits in perfectly with this.

It was pretty much love at first wear for me with it. I love a matte lip, the colour pay off is amazing and the Meet Matte Hughes have a minty chocolate smell to them….yummy.

irish makeup and beauty blog

As you would expect from the name, theBalm Meet Matte Hughes are super long wearing. I wore Charming to a christening a couple of weeks ago. I applied it in the morning before hand. Had a cheeky sausage roll breakfast in the car (classy I know), got through the church and then some coffee and treats afterwards and I still had Charming on my lips on the way home.

theBalm Meet Matte Hughes Charming

They apply really opaquely so there’s no faffing about. You can get full on colour with one layer. I personally apply a layer, let it dry and then apply another one.

irish beauty blog

makeup and beauty blogger

Now I will say, after eating and drinking there is definitely some colour wear, especially on the inside of the lips. The product can tend to ball up slightly, but I wouldn’t let that put you off at all, the colour is still there and it hasn’t transferred all over your face as you’ve been stuffing it so that’s pretty good I think. I can also attest to it being kiss proof. No I am not getting romantic, I just spent a good hour one night with it on kissing the back of my hand and nothing came off… πŸ™‚

With all liquid lipsticks, when applying, make sure your lips are in tip top condition. I’ll usually exfoliate before hand and then while I am doing my makeup, slather them in something like Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. I have a full review of this here if you’re interested πŸ™‚ Then, dab off whatever is left over on the lips before application. This just ensures you’ll get the most out of your lip colour.

Overall, I am a huge fan of theBalm Meet Matte Hughes. And the colour Charming is a really beautiful shade. I now have a few more colours on my lust list that I need to get a hold of.

You can pick up theBalm Meet Matte Hughes from Cloud10beauty here for 16.50 euro. And I know Marks and Spencers, Meaghers Pharmacy and Foody’s pharmacy stock the brand here in Ireland, to name a few.

Vichy Normaderm Beautifying Anti-Blemish Care…what a mouthful! πŸ™‚
If you have been following Beautynook for any length of time, you will know I have oily, spot prone skin. The Vichy Normaderm range on paper, is literally made for my skin type. Vichy says it’s ‘An expert collection of products to combat the 6 signs of imperfection-prone adult skin: Blemishes, Pores, Shine, Oily Skin, Marks & Uneven Complexion. Suitable for even sensitive skin.’ My skin in a nut shell πŸ™‚

Vichy Normaderm review

I’ve been using this moisturiser for a couple of months now, so I think I am in a good enough place with it to give you an opinion. Off the bat, I love the packaging. It has a pump applicator, you can control the amount of product that comes out of it by how hard you press on the top of the pump.

irish beauty bloggerbeauty blog ireland

The moisturiser itself has a really freshΒ  (but strong scent) that I personally like. The texture of it to me, is like a gel/cream hybrid. It has a thin consistency and soaks into the skin really quickly. If you have oily or combination skin, this is brilliant for a day cream.

irish makeup and beauty blog

Vichy says it contains something called Airlicium, this is supposed to help the moisturiser disperse and absorb sebum. It also contains 1.5% salicylic acid. Alcohol is high up on the ingredients list too, so if you are really senstive, I would be careful.

I can honestly say the Vichy Normaderm Beautifying Anti-Blemish Care does not interfere with my makeup longevity. I’ve used so many moisturisers in the past that are just far too emollient and my skin is shiny within the hour. It still manages to moisturise my skin though. My skin, although oily can tend to be dehydrated in places and I’ve found since using the Vichy Normaderm moisturiser this has significantly decreased. My skin feels more replenished.

Using this along with my holy grail toner the La Roche Posay Serozinc (I have a full review of this here), I have also noticed my skin texture (I tend to get alot of whiteheads on my cheeks) has improved alot too. I can’t say it helps particularly with pore appearance like it claims though. It has helped lessen the redness of my hormonal breakouts somewhat, I don’t think a topical cream, can stop them altogether.

I use a pump of the Vichy Normaderm Beautifying Anti-Blemish Care after cleansing and toning during the day and leave it to sink in for only about 5-10 minutes, it soaks in really fast. Then, just do my makeup as normal. I use it in my night time routine too, and then follow up with a heavier cream, but that’s completely just me, that isn’t necessary at all.

When it comes to skincare, I can only tell you what works for me, I am by no means an expert πŸ™‚

Overall, the Vichy Normaderm Beautifying Anti-Blemish Care seems to work really well for me though. The bottle I have now is a press sample, but when it runs out, I will definitely repurchase. The Vichy Normaderm range contains toners, cleansers, spot treatments the works and like with most Vichy products, are not too horrendously priced.

You can buy Vichy Normaderm in chemists nationwide and in Boots in store and online here. It will set you back between €19-20 euro, depending on where you purchase it.

Have you tried anything from the range? Be sure to let me know, I’d love some recommendations.

Cocoa Brown Golden Goddess Shimmering Dry Body Oil, the newest Cocoa Brown kid on the block.

cocoa brown reviewCocoa Brown already has us glittering with their Shimmering Instant Tan Bronzing Gel (you can see it up close here) and now they are spoiling us, with a shimmering body oil.

irish beauty blogFirst off the packaging of the Golden Goddess is really pretty. It’s a 50ml clear glass bottle, with a pump on the top, which I always appreciate. The clear bottle lets you see the prettiness of the shimmering oil inside and keeps you knowing how much product you have left.

The product itself is a separated oil formula that you have to shake up to get the golden goddess going πŸ™‚

irish makeup and beauty blogA little of it goes a long way, it’s really easy to apply, has the familiar Cocoa Brown scent (which I really like) and absorbs really quickly. Because it’s a dry oil, it doesn’t leave behind an greasy residue. When massaged into the skin, it leaves behind the prettiest golden shimmer.

cocoa brown irish beauty blogWithout any Cocoa Brown tanning help, I am naturally a pale Irish girl and the Golden Goddess still manages to give me a hint of colour as well as a shimmer…bonus!

It looks really gorgeous applied down the shin bone, on your collar bone, anywhere you would want a shimmery sheen really. I’ve seen people are using Golden Goddess even as a cheek bone highlighter, great idea!

You can pick up the Cocoa Brown Golden Goddess Shimmering Dry Body Oil in Penneys stores nationwide and from Cara Pharmacy. It will set you back €11.99 and will last you aaaagggggeeeesssss! πŸ™‚
