I did a post similar to this last here year for my first Christmas in Beautynook world. It’s a festive red lip for under a fiver. I still love and use both of products I used, these are just alternatives for your 2016 Festive Red Lipstick look πŸ™‚

festive red lipstick

I think a decent lip liner is as important as the lipstick you choose when rocking a red lip. You can by all means go for a more soft approach and that’s beautiful too. But, when you’re going full out bright and Christmas-sy red, I think a crisp lip line is important. And you don’t want any bleeding, I mean lipstick bleeding but of course we don’t want any bleeding at all πŸ™‚

festive red lipstick

For this year’s festive red lipstick lip liner, I went with the Rimmel Exaggerate in ‘Red Diva’.

irish beauty blog

I am a big fan of the Rimmel Exaggerate lip liners. They are super soft and easy to apply. And they now have an angled twist up nib which I find really handy for outlining and correcting my lip line. ‘Red Diva’ is the perfect classic red colour and actually works really nicely on it’s own as well.

This costs €5.49 and you can get it from the Boots website here.

The lipstick I chose is a new release for 2016. It’s one of the new Lip VIP’s from Sleek Makeup. It is called ‘Walk Of Fame’.

These are a semi matte formula lipstick. They are really creamy, pigmented and very comfortable to wear.

I just think both of these products together are a really lovely and affordable festive red lipstick combination. The Sleek Lip Vip’s are available from Boots too for €7.49 here.

Matte lips are everywhere at the minute so I thought I would go old school with more of a creamy textured combo. Layering the products means they are still long lasting but they won’t dry out your lips as much.

It is such a clichΓ© I know, but I just love a red lip during Christmas time πŸ™‚

I was very kindly invited to the very beautiful Galgorm Resort & Spa a few weeks ago. If you follow me on social media, you would have seen myself and John being treated like royalty to celebrate their Wellness Day and their new extended facilities.

We were blown away the minute we stepped out of the car in all honesty. The grounds of Galgorm Resort & Spa are so beautiful, our candid snaps do not do it much justice.

Galgorm cater for weddings and big occasions too, so they have two Rolls Royce casually parked on the grounds for when they are needed. There was actually a wedding on that day so one was away on duty πŸ™‚

There was a small group of us including press and bloggers, so we partook in the Wellness Party Package. Here’s a link to it on the website. It includes:

β€’ Private use of the group treatment suite for 3 hours

I’m just going to include all the pics I took to give you a bit of an insight. We did spend alot of the day in the water so I couldn’t bring the camera too close, but it might give you an idea of what to expect.

The spa uses products from both Aromatherapy Associates and Voya.

The Galgorm Resort & Spa Thermal Village contains an Orangery, the Celtic Sauna, a snow cabin, a Sanarium, snail showers, waterbeds, and an indoor pool. Then, the River House is situated in the middle of it all where the private treatments take place.

We did some exercise to begin with and then went and experienced the Celtic sauna Ritual, which was like nothing I have ever done before. I’ll quote Galgorm here if that’s ok to describe πŸ™‚ ‘Originating in Finland and now practised world-wide this is Galgorm’s unique presentation on the Aufguss sauna ritual. Your Sauna Master will guide through this meditative experience where a ritual with towels is used to agitate the air, lessening the intensity of the heat and allowing you to breathe in the essential oils infused into the air. You will complete the ritual with a meditation session in the River House followed by rejuvenation and refreshment in the Orangery where you can float away into a state of utter relaxation.’

After lunch, it was time for our spa treatments. I opted for a back and shoulder massage, that made me feel like bubble wrap. All my knots and tension was taken care of. John opted for a eye treatment and was so relaxed he actually fell asleep on the bed πŸ™‚

galgorm river room

And then, we just spent the rest of the day in the sauna, pool and hot tub hopping. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon, right?

Our room for the night was one of the newly built deluxe room that overlook the Thermal Village. This was our view for the evening.

Because we were so darn relaxed, we forgot to take some pictures of the room before we messed it all up. Here’s some from the next day, but you get the gist πŸ™‚ All the formal info of their deluxe rooms is here.

The bed felt like a king size marshmallow and I wanted to bring the light up mirror in the bathroom home, not going to lie πŸ™‚

The room comes with a complimentary mini bar which is a really nice added extra. It has some snacks and drinks, and includes Galgorm’s very own craft beer. This can only be gotten in the resort. John being the beer connoisseur that he is, really enjoyed it.

In the evening we were treated to a really tasty meal in the on site Italian restaurant Fratelli’s.

After undoing all the wellness of the day with lots of delicious grub, we ended the night in the Gin Bar. A gin lovers paradise.

The next morning, we had breakfast before we left, which was a sit down affair with a buffet full of fruit and pastries and then whatever you want from the menu. It was the perfect way to end a beautiful and relaxing break at Galgorm.

We ended our stay in Northern Ireland with a trip to the Giant’s Causeway. The weather was pretty miserable, but it’s such a beautiful part of the country, so it was worth it πŸ™‚

Overall, our experience in Galgorm Spa & Resort was an amazing one. Neither myself or John had ever been on a spa break and after this, we’re already planning our next one.

If you are looking for somewhere to go as a treat to unwind and relax, I would hand on hear recommend it.

Thank you so much to all the staff for having us.

Makeup Geek is finally available on Irish shores without customs. Wohoo! I am a huge Makeup Geek fan and have been since Marlena first started releasing makeup. I have some eyeshadow swatches here if you want a closer look at some of them and some of their awesome pigments swatched here too.

Since Makeup Geek is finally easier to get a hold of. You can purchase it from Beautybay I thought I would pull some of my shadows out and do a festive look with them. I went with green as I thought it would be a great choice coming up to Christmas and I really like green on my hazel eyes. It works on pretty much all eye colours though.

Make Geek Eyeshadows

As always I primed my lids and used Vanilla Bean all over my lid to set it.

makeup geek irish

Then I took Latte, a cool toned brown and used this to start defining my crease a little, with a fluffy brush.

makeup geek beautybayirishbeautyblogirishbeautyblog beautynook

Next I took the star of the show Envy.

makeupgeek irelandI took a flat brush and packed this on the moving part of my lid up to the crease.

irish beauty blog beautynookirish beauty bloggerThen blended out the edged with the brush I used to apply Latte.

irish makeup and beauty blog

I wanted to warm things up a bit so I took the shade Cocoa Bear.

For a little pop of lightness on the lid, I added some Appletini.

Makeup Geek Irish Beauty Blog (12)I just used my finger and put a little bit on the middle of my lid.

I used some more Vanilla Bean on a fluffy brush, on my brow bone to just lighten it a little more. Vanilla Bean has some shimmer running through it but it’s really light.

So now you look like you got punched in the face, don’t worry we can fix that πŸ™‚

To add some definition to the lash line, I took Makeup Geek’s black shade Corrupt.

beauty blogWith a bent liner brush, I did a thin line across the top lash line.

makeup and beauty blogtop irish beauty blog

Now we can clean up the under eye, this part helps so much. Most times when you work with dark colours, you’ll get fall out and things can look so messy. I just used my foundation brush to clean up under my eyes.

top irish beauty blog beautynookConcealer time then, one of my favourite parts of makeup πŸ™‚

irishbeautyblog beautynook

I curled and added loads of mascara to my top lashes, then it’s time for the lower lash line.

I used Appletini first on a smudger brush just in the middle.

easy makeup tutorial beauty blogI then added envy to the inner and outer parts with the same brush and blended both colours together.

More mascara on the bottom lashes.

You could totally leave things like that then.

I wanted to add a bit more (as always). So I took Makeup Geek’s Shimma Shimma and added it onto my tear duct, blending it into the shadow on the inner corner of my eyes.

Lastly I took a black Kohl pencil. This is Urban Decay’s Perversion.

This went onto my upper and lower waterlines.

irish beauty blogtop irish beauty bloggereasy christmas makeupTo make the Kohl pencil last a bit longer I added a bit of Makeup Geek Corrupt over the top just to lock it into place…and then we’re done! I kept the rest of my makeup really simple and just added a brown nude lip colour.

There you have it, my take on a green smoky eye using some Makeup Geek shadows. Let me know what you think and hope you’re enjoying the Christmas countdown πŸ™‚

Β Sleek are such an awesome affordable brand. They do so many great eyeshadow palettes (amongst other things of course). The colour range and the choice of finishes are really second to none within the more ‘drugstore market’.

Today’s really easy (remember I’m not a makeup artist) look is courtesy of the Sleek Vintage Romance Palette. You can pick it up from Boots here.

Sleek Vintage Vamp Palette

I think this would make a great Christmas party makeup. The Vintage Romance palette offers great shades for bit of shimmer and a bit of smoke. This look would work well on a more hooded eye shape too as the concentration of colour is on the lash line.

Irish beauty blog beautynook (30)

I started out as always by priming my lids and adding a matte skin colour shadow over top.

I took some of the shade ‘Propose in Prague’, the only matte shade in the Vintage Romance Palette.

irish beauty blog

I applied a wash of this with a blending brush into my crease, just to add a little definition and give the lid colour something to blend into.

irish beauty bloggerirish beauty blog beautynook

I then used the colour ‘Lust In LA’, which is a shimmery taupe.

beauty blogger beautynookI patted this with a flat shader brush all over my lid.

irishbeautyblogirishbeautyblog beautynook

Then with a clean blending brush just did some window wiper motions to blend it into the crease colour πŸ™‚

irish makeup and beauty blog

To smoke things up a little, I took some ‘Forever In Florence’. a dark purple shimmer.

irish makeup and beauty blogger

I patted this quite thickly along my lash line.

irish makeup and beauty blog beautynookirish makeup and beauty blogger beautynook

This colour comes out much more purple over the ‘Lust In LA’ shade and I wanted it a little darker, so did the same thing again with the darkest shade in the palette ‘Love In London’.

top irish beauty blog vintage romance paletteI used a small more precise brush and kept the colour more to the lash line so ‘Forever In Florence’ is still visible.

top irish beauty bloggertop irish beauty blog beautynooktop irish beauty blogger beautynookIf you lose some colour intensity you can just go back in and apply more of the colour.

I added some lashes and a slick of liquid liner to the band, totally optional of course, you can just do mascara by all means.

irish beauty blog

For the lower lash line I went a bit colourful, you can of course just add the darkest shade to smoke things out more and or just leave bare and add some mascara.

On the outer half of my eye, I used the true purple shade in the palette ‘Bliss In Barcelona’.

makeup blogger vintage romancemakeup blog

Then to brighten things up a bit I used the light gold shimmery shade in the Vintage Romance palette ‘Meet In Madrid’.

irish makeup blogWith a pencil brush I applied this under the rest of my eye and on the inner corner.

irish makeup bloggerbeautynook beauty blog

I finished off the eyes with some brown liner in the upper and lower waterline, some mascara to my lower lashes and a light shimmery brow highlight.

Β How about a long wearing matte cherry red lip choice for under a fiver?

I have here the Penneys (or Primark) red lip liner in number 05.

Penney's PS Love Lip Liner

Penneys do 4 shades in these P.S Love lip liners. I own them all and think they’re really great great for the price. They are pigmented, easy too apply and the won’t drag the bejesus outta your lips. Using a liner under your lipstick means you can even out your lip line, over draw slightly if you want and it will help any lip product you add on top last longer.

irish beauty blog

05 is a true red colour, so of course you could easily get away with this on it’s own and it will only set you back €1.50. #bargain πŸ™‚

irish makeup and beauty blog

I wanted to pink it up a little, so I added ‘Cherry Picking’ by Wet n Wild into the mix.

Wet n Wild Megalast Cherry Pickingirish beauty blog beautynook

I adore these Wet n Wild Megalast matte lippies. I swatched and reviewed a whole slew of them here, including ‘Cherry Picking’. They cost €2.49 a pop, which is really brilliant value. They come in so many colours too, so there’s plenty to choose from. Wet n Wild is really handy to get hold of now in Ireland, with Penneys and so many pharmacies stocking the brand nationwide.

‘Cherry Picking’ is a red toned pink. And again this is a gorgeous shade all by itself.

You can see it here swatched beside the lip liner, it’s on the right hand side.

irish beauty blogger

When these are added together, I think they give the most beautiful pinky red shade, that would flatter so many skin shades.Β  Cherry Picking although matte like the liner, it has a more comfortable formula. I am loving this combo and I think it will definitely be a go to for me over the Christmas period πŸ™‚

beauty blog

I love a true red lip, it is so timeless and can dress up any look, but sometimes it’s nice to change things up even a little.

And the best news, both of these lip products together will cost you €3.99. None of us can argue with that can we?

Let me know what you think?

Orange Lip Products

I have already listed some favourite red lipsticks here, pink lipsticks here and even some bolder darker choices here. So I thought the natural progression would be…some oranges. I pick up an orange number more than you would think on a day to day basis, it can really brighten up a look, and make it fresh and interesting. Like any lippies you can go wild and full on or you can do it under stately. It all depends on your preference, or what mood you are in that day πŸ™‚

I picked 5 from my collection that should cover all bases when it comes to finish, pigment, glossy and matte.

First up is an offering from Shiseido.

Shisedo OR418

This is in the Shade OR418

Shiseido

Shiseido OR418

This is a glossy but pigmented lippie. I actually got this in one of my Chic Treat Club boxes and I have gotten so much use out of it. It’s a lovely true orange shade, that’s moisturising on the lips and is really easy to wear. Really need to try more Shiseido, it’s so readily available in Irish pharmacies.

Next up is more of a sheer orange gloss in the form of Revlon’s Colorstay Moisture Stain.

Revlon Moisture Stain 025 Cannes Crush

This is in the shade 025 Cannes Crush

revlon cannes crushRevlon ColorStay Moisture Stain 025 Cannes CrushThis is a more subdued peachy orange for those of you who just want a hint of a tint. The great thing about the Revlon Moisture Stains is that when the non sticky gloss wears off they still leave you with a bit of colour on your lips. They are so easy to wear too and the doe foot applicator is small and nifty so the product is really easy to apply.

I picked a peachy shade for my next choice. I know everyone doesn’t want bright shiny or orangey lips.

This is one of the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in 04 Peach Club

This is in the shade 04 Peach Club

04 peach clubBourjois Rouge Edition Velvet 04 Peach Club

The camera makes these come up shiny but I promise they’re matte πŸ™‚ I’ve waffled on about these Rouge Edition Velvet’s before so I won’t bore you with the details. This colour is so wearable for all skin types. It really brightens up a look without looking like you tried too hard, and believe me these last all day too.

I choose probably one of the most infamous shades to talk about next. You cannot talk about orange lip products without having this involved.

Mac Lipstick Lady Danger

This is of course Mac’s Lady Danger

Lady DangerMac Lady Danger

When you want to make a statement you wear this…simple. It is a vibrant red toned orange lipstick of loveliness. If you like a bold lip, and don’t have Lady Danger, add it to your shopping list, you won’t be disappointed. Just looking at it in the bullet gets me all a flutter πŸ™‚

My last choice here in orange heaven is of the pink toned variety for again the girls who don’t want to go full on orange.

Sleel Matte Me 434 Party Pink

This is one of the Sleek Matte Me Lip Creams in 434 Party Pink

434 Party PinkSleek Matte Me 434 Party Pink

When they say these are matte, they really really mean it. I had left this one until last to swatch and my lips just shrivelled up, so apologies. You can still see the colour though. It’s a gorge pinky orange shade, that would be perfect for the warmer weather. Some tinted moisturiser, mascara and Party Pink would be the perfect pool party combo. It’s such a fun colour. Just be sure to exfoliate and moisturise the lips before applying πŸ™‚

I picked 5, but I really could have picked 10. You would have been here all night reading about orange lipsticks though and I am sure you don’t want that.

Some food for thought anyway and all of these are readily available in Boots, Brown Thomas (for Mac of course) and pharmacies nationwide.

Cheers,

Gemma
