theBalm Bonnie-Lou Manizer

Let me introduce you to theBalm Bonnie-Lou Manizer and the new Foiled Again Foil Eyeshadow Palette.

theBalm Bonnie-Lou Manizer

I literally got my greedy makeup loving mitts on these only last night! In fact they were only released into public hands here in Ireland yesterday. And the awesome news is, we are the first to have them. They are officially available in store exclusively from Debenhams today the 27th of October. So if you like what you see, go go go πŸ™‚

the balm Foiled Again Eyeshadow PaletteΒ I wanted to show the theBalm Bonnie-Lou Manizer. (Incarcerated sister of Mary-Lou which I adore and did a blogpost on yonks ago here.) And the new Foiled Again Foil Eyeshadow Palette up close and swatched so I can hopefully help with your retail decisions.

We will have a look at Bonnie-Lou first.

thebalm highlight

She’s more warm and golden than Mary-Lou. You can see Mary on the left here. But she is not as dark as Betty.

As with all theBalm highlighters she is super pigmented, buttery and easy to apply to the skin. It would actually make a very pretty eyeshadow too.

Her recommended retail price is €22.50.

Next up we have the Foiled Again Foil Eyeshadow Palette.

thebalm eyeshadow palette

This contains 12 shades. Eight foiled and then four matte, which I actually really appreciate. It means you can do a full look with one palette. I love all shimmer palettes, don’t get me wrong. But, it’s always nice to have a few mattes within too for crease work or to just use on their own aswell.

There’s a good mix of warm and cooler tones within the foiled eyeshadows and the mattes too!

The eyeshadows are talc free, super soft and extremely pigmented. I think I am going to have fun playing with this one.

I swatched them in their rows of four, from left to right:

***********PR SAMPLE*************

I’ve known the Penneys PS Custom Eyes Eyeshadow and Palettes have been coming for a while. The press launch was a few weeks ago, but now they are officially in Penneys/Primark stores!

I picked up mine in Mary Street here in Dublin. There is two palette sizes to choose from. It’s €2 for the four pan palette or €3 for the nine pan.
There are 30 Penneys PS Custom Eyes eyeshadow shades in total.
Penneys PS Custom Eyes

Picture: Andres Poveda

They range from neutrals, full on colour to black. They are all magnetic and will set you back €1 each. Here are all the shade names: Ice, Bone, Stripped, Sun Kissed, Gold Digger, Baked, Firecracker, Brick, Hot Coco, Carbon, Naked, Stone, Peachy Keen, Peony, Tickle, Antique Bronze, Vermilion, Burnt, Crimson, Espresso, Truffle, Pistachio, Basil, Tidal, Earth, Opal, Cranberry, Slate and Royal.

I picked up one of the nine pan palettes and then nine eyeshadows to go in it. So altogether what I have here set me back 12 quid.

There was actually a really decent amount of shades available in Mary Street when I went in to have a look. A lot of the more warm, wearable shades were sold out though. But I am not surprised there really, and I’m sure Penneys will keep restocking them. So, don’t be discouraged if you want to get your hands on some, just keep an eye out.

My first impressions of the Penneys Custom Eyes eyeshadows are really good. These are the first Penneys eyeshadows that I would actually recommend to people. Other than their highlighting palette which I did a review of here a while back. I haven’t been majorly keen on Penneys powder products.

I did a whole look with the eyeshadows when I first picked them up.

Penneys PS Custom Eyes

All of the shadows are from the Penneys PS Custom Eyes range, except I used a bit of matte bronzer in the crease. I just didn’t have a shade to take on that job πŸ™‚ The shimmery lid colour applied best with my finger. That’s something to be weary off. But the colours, overall are pigmented, soft, blend well and with primer lasted the day on me too.

Penneys PS Custom Eyes

Here are all nine shades I have finger swatched and named:

Some of the colours need a few layers to pack a punch and you will get fall down. But overall for the price point and the variation in colour and finishes, the shadows get a thumbs up from me.

Have you picked up any of the Penneys PS Custom Eyes shadows? Are you a fan?

Mac Eyeshadows My Most Used

I stopped buying Mac Eyeshadows for a long time, It wasn’t a matter of not liking them. It was a matter of the price. There was so many other brands bringing out quality shadows that were much better value for money. Makeup Geek,Β the first one springing to mind. I have lots of posts including Makeup Geek. I’ll link my favourite neutrals from the brand here.

Mac Eyeshadows

However, at the beginning of this year, Mac reduced the price here in Ireland. Single pan Mac Eyeshadows will now set you back €7 from Brown Thomas and Arnotts here. At one stage, they were costing €11. Seven quid is a much better deal! And of course with Arnotts selling the brand in store and online too, it’s much easier to get a hold of.

Mac cosmetics ireland

I’ll stop waffling now since you clicked to see my most used shadows from the brand πŸ™‚ A bit of a disclaimer, they are not very exciting. I went with five choices. For some reason that seems to be a nice number for me with these things.

mac cosmetics

They are overall neutral with a couple of more interesting colours thrown in too. These are honestly shades I use though. Also, I should point out too, other brands do have similar eyeshadows. Sure Makeup Geek give their Mac dupes on the website. I like to dabble in all brands though and Mac are damn good at eyeshadow (specifically singles), among other things of course.

First up we have Naked Lunch.

This is one of those colours most makeup lovers had at once stage. This is my second one. I only picked it up a few months ago.

It’s a neutral and quite cool toned shimmery nude shade with a hint of pink. I love it for highlighting and applied all over the lid on ‘no makeup, makeup’ days.

Second is All That Glitters.

This is another neutral shimmery shade, just deeper. I think of it as a rosy champagne colour. I do know on deeper skin tones it can look a bit orange in tone, that is something to note. But again, for me it’s another everyday shade.

It works so lovely just applied all over the lid. You can intensify the shine from it by wetting your brush to apply it.

Third is Satin Taupe.

This is probably my most used shade. It’s a cool toned taupe frosty colour. The formula is a little harder to work with, it’s quite stiff. I generally use my finger too apply it. It is such an unusual shade though, so I can live with the application.

You can create dimensional colour with it by just blending the edges with a fluffy brush. In some lights it can look more purple than brown.

My fourth choice is Club.

Club holds a special place in my makeup heart. For a long time it was the only one of it’s kind out there. Nowadays, there’s plenty of similar shades on the market. Like Satin Taupe, it’s a multi dimensional shade.

It is green in the pan, but shifts brown as you blend it. You get a really cool duo chrome effect from it. I remember buying both Satin Taupe and Club at the same time from Brown Thomas after seeing so much hype about them online back in the day. I am glad I did πŸ™‚

My last choice is the most colourful out of the lot. This is Cranberry.

This is a frost finish reddened burgundy with a pink and golden sheen to it. Again, it was one of those shades that a few years ago was hard to come by. Not so much anymore, but it’s still a lovely version of it.

It looks super intimidating, putting red on your eyes seems insane! For me, I think it does a great job at bringing out the green in my hazel eyes. I generally just use it all over the lid with some brown in the crease.

If you follow me on social media, you know I have not shut up about The Ordinary over the past few weeks. It is a really affordable but effective skincare brand created by Deciem. They have now released two foundations. I managed to get my hands on both! So, I thought I would break it down into two blogposts, in case one takes your fancy more than the other. This post is dedicated to The Ordinary Colours Serum Foundation.

the ordinary colours serum foundation

Now I knew ordering this foundation, that it probably wouldn’t be compatible with my oily skin, but I wanted to try it regardless. The hype about this brand is just too much, and it’s super affordable to boot πŸ™‚

the ordinary colours serum foundation

The Ordinary Colours Serum Foundation comes in a 30ml plastic bottle with a rubberized plastic pump.

The packaging works really well and is very sleek for the price. My only gripe with it is that because the pump is matte, it tends to get really grubby with foundation. You can order a glass pipette for it separately if you’d rather apply it with that.

the ordinary deciem

The foundation comes in an abundance of shades from super light to super dark. 21 shades in total! It also comes in tones aswell which is even more awesome! So you can choose from pink, red and neutral undertones. There are 3 shades with S and G as the undertone, which stands for silver and gold. These have added highlight in them. Deciem say they will eventually create separate enhancers and highlighter so we can customise. I ain’t mad at that!

I totally guessed my shade and did a pretty good job I think. I went with 1.1N (neutral).

irish beauty blog

The formula is light and nearly runny when you pump it out. It is a serum foundation, so that’s completely what you would expect. They use high saturated pigment, so a little goes a long way.

The Ordinary skincare

To me, this is a light but build-able to medium foundation. It blends in to the skin really nicely and definitely covers up and even out any discolouration. A little goes a fairly long way. It doesn’t settle into lines and is really light weight on the skin too.

Here in Europe it is deemed SPF 15 (there is different regulations in different countries). The finish for me is more on the dewy side which again is what I expected. But, it’s not greasy on the skin. I’ve been wearing The Ordinary Silicone Primer with it and they work well together.

Before:

I usually just pump some directly onto my face.

After:

Obviously you can see it in action on my skin in the pics above, but I used it in a recent video here too, so you can see it kinda sorta in ‘real life’! When I first apply it, it has gives a velvet like finish to the skin. There’s definitely more of a glow to it after it settles though. I personally wouldn’t get more than a couple of hours wear out of before the oiliness wins the war. But if I use a good primer and powder (alot), I can get a bit longer.Having said though, if you have more dry, combo skin, this will work a treat for you. It is a gorgeous everyday foundation.

The Ordinary Colours Serum Foundation is currently out of stock on the Deciem website (sorry), but you can sign up here to be notified when it’s back in. It costs a ridiculously reasonable €6.70. Deciem also offer free shipping over €25.

I’ve been talking alot about Kat Von D of late, Since they’ve parked their bums in Debenhams, I want to try everything! I did a post on the Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette here too if you are interested. This post is all about the under eyes though. I am giving my thoughts on the Kat Von D Lock It Concealer and the Brightening Powder.

kat von d lock it concealer

I picked up both products together a few weeks ago and have been using the pretty much consistently since.

kat von d ireland

There is a whole array of products in the Kat Von D Lock it line, ranging from face primer, to setting spray.
I’ll start out talking about the Lock It Concealer.

kat von d lock it

Off the bat, I love the packaging, specifically the doe foot applicator. It has a tear drop shape, so it works really nicely around the eye contours. I also love that it comes in an abundance of shade ranges, and they differentiate by tone too! So, you can get warm, neutral and cool.

I went with L5 Neutral, which is a really good match for me:

It has quite a thick consistency on the skin, but blends like a dream. It covers really nicely and brightens up the under eye area too. On me, it has yet to crease, flake or settle in any fine lines once I set it. I usually go in with a light (ish) layer, blend it in and then apply another dot to the darkest area of my under eyes.

Overall, I am a big fan of the Kat Von D Lock It Concealer. It gives me very similar vibes to the Clarins Instant Light which I am a huge fan of too! It costs €26 from Debenhams in store or online here.

Next up we have the Kat Von D Lock It Brightening Powder.

kat von d lock it brightening powder petal

I bought this specifically to use over the concealer. I am sure if you wanted just a little brightens under the eyes without using a concealer, this could work too.

It comes in three shades, I picked up the lightest one ‘Petal’. It is a really finely milled loose powder with a peachy undertone.

With it being a loose powder and in a smaller container, it can get messy to use, I won’t lie. Saying that, it does a really lovely job at setting my concealer and really does help smooth out under the eyes, as well as adding extra brightness.

It feels like velvet on the skin and a little goes a really long way. It doesn’t leave your under eyes feeling tight or dry when you apply it. Again, this is another Kat Von D purchase I am glad I made. The Brightening Powder costs €24.50. You can buy from Debenhams in store or online here.

Now, I just need to get my hands on the Kat Von D Lock It primer, foundation and setting spray and I’ll be good to go :). Have you tried anything from the range?

I already gave my first impressions of the Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette here not too long ago, along with some other bits from the brand.

Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette

I finally got to go into the counter in Debenhams on Henry Street and check out everything in the flesh. How cool is it we have counters in Ireland now though? So exciting πŸ™‚

Kat Von D Makeup ireland

After using the Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette consistently for the past couple of weeks, I feel I can give a decent enough opinion on it. I also wanted to swatch all of the shades so you can see them in action on the skin.

Kat Von D Shade & Light Palette

The packaging is pretty robust cardboard adorned with hand drawn calligraphy depicting the palette name done by the lovely Kat herself. It has a generous sized mirror in the lid too which is always handy. Although if you look at the American site here, you’ll see they have redone the packaging and the shades are now housed in a plastic palette.

beauty blog irelandbeauty blogger irelandtop irish beauty blogger

The palette is described as: ‘Inspired by an artist’s palette and loaded with twelve matte shades that capture the true hues of shadow and light, this ‘Shade and Light’ eye contour palette is arranged by undertone for neutral, warm and cool shades. Use deeper contour shades to add natural shadow and depth to the face, then accentuate best angles with the brighter highlight shades. These silky, buildable powders blend effortlessly into the skin with a formula so incredibly fine, it’s like brushing on powdered silk.’

So we get 12 shades in this palette. All matte and they are a mix of neutral, cool and warm shades.

Kat Von D Ireland

They are arranged in their tone families, each one has a base, contour, define and highlight shade. Of course you can mix them whatever way you see fit though! I’ll swatch them in their tone groupings (from left to right) just to give you an idea of what they look like together:

For me, the shadows are rich in pigment, soft and really easy to apply and blend. I do find you get some kickback when you dip your brush into the pan. But, that doesn’t take away from the quality, it is just something to be weary of. There is a good range of shades to suit everyone too! You can go from a really simple makeup look to a full on smoky eye with one palette. Matte colours aren’t always the easiest to get right, I find, but Kat Von D have done a stellar job. The shade range covers a multitude too! I’ll be honest and say I find the colour selection very similar to the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette which I have a blogpost on here. The Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette did come before it though πŸ™‚

Kat Von D Shade & Light

The Kat Von D Shade & Light Eye Contour Palette is available from Debenhams in store or online here. It’s priced at €46. It’s nice to note, the Kat Von D brand is 100% cruelty free!
