How about a long wearing matte cherry red lip choice for under a fiver?
I have here the Penneys (or Primark) red lip liner in number 05.
Penneys do 4 shades in these P.S Love lip liners. I own them all and think they’re really great great for the price. They are pigmented, easy too apply and the won’t drag the bejesus outta your lips. Using a liner under your lipstick means you can even out your lip line, over draw slightly if you want and it will help any lip product you add on top last longer.
05 is a true red colour, so of course you could easily get away with this on it’s own and it will only set you back €1.50. #bargain 🙂
I wanted to pink it up a little, so I added ‘Cherry Picking’ by Wet n Wild into the mix.
I adore these Wet n Wild Megalast matte lippies. I swatched and reviewed a whole slew of them here, including ‘Cherry Picking’. They cost €2.49 a pop, which is really brilliant value. They come in so many colours too, so there’s plenty to choose from. Wet n Wild is really handy to get hold of now in Ireland, with Penneys and so many pharmacies stocking the brand nationwide.
‘Cherry Picking’ is a red toned pink. And again this is a gorgeous shade all by itself.
You can see it here swatched beside the lip liner, it’s on the right hand side.
When these are added together, I think they give the most beautiful pinky red shade, that would flatter so many skin shades. Cherry Picking although matte like the liner, it has a more comfortable formula. I am loving this combo and I think it will definitely be a go to for me over the Christmas period 🙂
I love a true red lip, it is so timeless and can dress up any look, but sometimes it’s nice to change things up even a little.
And the best news, both of these lip products together will cost you €3.99. None of us can argue with that can we?

Lush treated us bloggers and the press to an up close look at what they have in store (literally ha) for Winter and Christmas 2015. As a big Lush fan, I was very excited to see so many new and well known products back for the festive season. They have gift sets galore to suit any tastes and budget, and of course most of the products can be bought individually too.
We were very kindly gifted the fabulous Lush Winter Wonderland Gift Set, and so I wanted to show you what is inside, in case it’s something you would want on your Christmas list.
There are some old faves and some newbies up for grabs in this pretty huge gift box.
Snow Angel Bath Melt is in there. It contains cocoa butter and leaves your bath glittery.
We have Yog Nog Bath Bomb. This is a cinder toffee soak with spicy clove and ylang ylang.
The Ceridwen’s Cauldron Bath Melt looks really interesting. This plops into the bath as is and melts. It has sandalwood oil, oats and wildflower inside.
The Candy Mountain Bubble Bar has sparkles and fair trade vanilla to bubble up your bath with.
The Peeping Santa Bubble Bar looks funny right? This has shea butter and strawberry inside, so great for us with a sweet tooth.
The Yoga Bath Bomb is great for relaxing with. It contains olibanum and ho wood.
You can reuse this cutie. This is The Magic Of Christmas Bubble Bar. It has clove and almond in it. You can just sweep it across the water a few times and then put it somewhere safe to use again.
I get a Holly Golightly Bubble Bar every year from Lush. I think it just screams Christmas, and it smells like it too 🙂
Of course the Lush Winter Wonderland has a Frozen Bath Bomb this year. It contains grapefruit and Tunisian Neroli. Yum yum.
This is the Stardust Bath Bomb. It has vanilla and Rosewood in it.
Cinders is a lush classic. It smells like cinnamon.
I saw this Luxury Lush Pud Bath Bomb (mouthful) in action when we were in Lush. It dissolves into the bath just how it looks in the bomb it’s really cool. It also contains lavender so good for a before bed time bath.
My Father Christmas Bath Bomb got a bit bashed by its friends inside the box. He will turn your bath green though and smells like candy floss.
I think bubble bars are where you get the most bang for your buck in Lush. You can just break pieces off and get as many uses out of them as you want. This is the Bar Humbug Bubble Bar. It contains Liquorice, not my favourite scent, but if you love DollyMix this one is for you 🙂
The Lord of Misrule Bath bomb makes your bath wine coloured, so you could drink wine while you were having your bath and you wouldn’t even noticed if you spilled!
My So White Bath Bomb didn’t make it in one piece, but at least it means I can show you what it looks like inside. It contains bergamot and rose…yummy!
Golden Wonder is my all time favourite bath bomb from Lush. It has lime oil in it, so it smells really zesty and when it melts away it leaves little stars in your bath!
The Butterbear Bath Bomb is great for dry skin, it has cocoa butter in it like the Snow Angel…I might actually use these together for an extra hydrating bath time!
The Comforter Bubble Bar is probably my favourite out of all the Lush bubble bars and is one I purchase all the time. It’s really sweet but not in a sickly way. It contains cassis and cypress oil.
The Twilight Bath Bomb is the last on the list. As you would assume by the name and the look of this bath bomb, this is another good bath time bomb. It contains lavender and tonka and according to Lush makes your bath look like the night sky…we’ll see about that 🙂
The Lush Winter Wonderland will cost you €117.50, it is one of the priciest gift sets instore. I think if you are wanting to buy a hardcore Lush fan (or yourself) a really special gift this is pretty perfect though.
Any of your Lush faves in here? Any you fancy trying? Let me know 🙂
Ok, you’re going to have to forgive me, because it’s time for another mascara rave 🙂
This is the Catrice Glamour Doll Volume Waterproof Mascara, and I am in love! I saw the lovely Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup talking about this a while ago. I kinda feel like I have similar mascara needs to her. She always goes for a waterproof formula as do I, she wants the curl to last and wants some length…so do I, we’re practically lash sisters right?
Obviously when I saw her talk about it, the Catrice Glamour Doll Volume Waterproof Mascara went on my to buy list. And as we know here in Ireland Catrice is readily available in pharmacies and Penneys around these parts and it doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg, so even a better reason to give it a try. To be fair myself and Catrice have been getting on like a house on fire of late and I am thoroughly enjoying the brand.
I think the easiest way to review a mascara is to just show you in action. I have blabbed on about my lashes being pretty lame many times so I won’t bore you with the details, but my lashes need a bit of oomph and curl to look semi decent. Mascara would definitely be one of my desert island products.
Here they are with no product on them at all.
Here they are curled with an eyelash curlers, I have straight lashes and no mascara really gives me the full curl I want so this is a necessary step in my routine. It just gives them an extra lift, which I don’t have naturally.
Here, I have added a few coats of the Catrice Glamour Doll to one of my eyes.
You can see it makes a pretty significant difference to my lashes right?
The Glamour Doll Volume Waterproof mascara has a small plastic wand, with small spikes tips to it, I think it makes for really easy application, and you can get right into the root of the lashes with it. I layer it too and it doesn’t become overly clumpy and leave you with spider lashes either.
So here’s the mascara added to both eyes top and bottom.
I’m even happy to add a slick of the Glamour Eyes to my bottom lashes, and it lasts quite well. Usually I can be a bit of a mascara ponce and tend to stick to a tubing mascara on my bottom lashes, but the wand on this one isn’t too large so it applies pretty easy to the lower lashes and has yet to smudge on me either.
If you struggle with a curl lasting in your lashes like me and you want some extra length, with a bit of added volume too, I really recommend giving the Catrice Glamour Doll Volume Waterproof Mascara a go.
And the best part, it will set you back €4.99, not bad right?
Ok ‘essential’ is a bit of an exaggeration. Maybe which brushes make life a bit handier? That aren’t foundation that I spoke about here or eyeshadow brushes that I speak about here? That’s more of a mouthful though 🙂 And I promise it’s just a coincidence that I have five here like the other lists.
A blush brush is definitely one of these. It’s handy to have a makeup brush dedicated to this task.
Blush is usually pink or peach and you don’t necessarily always want them colours on the rest of your face, so pick up a smallish, soft brush. One that will fit the apple of your cheeks but still blend the colour in.
A concealer brush is handy, but of course not a necessity.
I know you can just use your foundation brush (or your fingers). It’s handy to have a smaller, dense synthetic brush to apply concealer though. You can get into all the nooks and crannies of you face with it.
A powder brush for me, I think is pretty necessary in this business we call makeup application.
You can have one to apply your setting powder and bronzer or one for each, it’s up to you. I think if you were to have another brush, grab a large fluffy variety and even a smaller one for under the eyes (if you’re feeling really fancy) or like to use a different powder under there like I do. 🙂
Ok contour.
I know not all of us do it, nor do all of us give a crap about it, but if you do and are interested, there is many a brush to help you on your contouring journey.
Flat paint brush types, tapered fluffy types or even small rounded types. There’s one for all! If you want a stronger contour, choose a denser brush like the paint brush, but if you want to add a more diffused contour grab something tapered and soft.
Ok, last unnecessary but necessary brush. One for highlighting.
Again this all depends on your highlighting needs, if you don’t do it, you don’t need a brush and if you just use your fingers, that’s perfectly acceptable. This is just another brush option, if you want one 🙂
As you want to use a light hand with a highlighter…well I’m assuming you do? So a fan brush is a great brush to have (although I cannot find mine to use as an example sorry). Or a mini duo fibre brush works really well, as you can just use the top less dense layer for application. Anything smallish with a soft lightly packed bristles is good for the job really.
What do you think? Too many makeup brushes? If you are a full on makeup junkie, you’re probably thinking eh Gemma where’s the rest of them I know 🙂
Thanks for reading as always and be sure to follow me on social media for the chats. Snapchat is becoming really handy for that. I’m Beautynook over there.
I wouldn’t be one for harping on about a single eyeshadow. It has to be very special one for me to dedicate a whole blog post to it. I think the Mac Pro Longwear Eyeshadow in ‘Uninterrupted’ deserves to be one of them.
Now I know looking at it in the pan, you’re thinking what the hell are you on about Gemma, but hear me out! 🙂
Uninterrupted is such a unique colour.
My description of it would be a sandy mustard colour, not very articulate of me but they are the colours that come to mind. In short though it is a medium matte brown with a yellow undertone…that’s a bit more of a logical description.
Uninterrupted is so pigmented and smooth even on bare skin without a shadow underneath which is impressive for a matte eyeshadow. It blends beautifully too.
It is such an unusual shade that you do not see everyday, that’s why I think it deserves to be spoken about on it’s own.
It’s more interesting than you’re usual taupe shades for transitioning colours in a smoked out eye look. It’s gorgeous on the lid just on it’s own. And it looks fab blended under the lower lash line. Uninterrupted is the perfect shade for creating the 90’s looks that are loving at the minute. It works on all eye colours too which is pretty impressive.
The Mac Pro Longwear eyeshadows are €22 a pop from Brown Thomas instore or online here. It’s a lot of money for just one shadow. I will say they are bigger than the standard pans (3.4g) though. The colour is a reason to splurge on one though. I am so glad I listened to the hype and pick Uninterrupted up. The next time you’re browsing in Mac give it a swatch and have a look for yourself. I bought mine in Brown Thomas.
Do you own it? Do you own any similar shades to it?
Let me know.
As always thanks for reading. If you want to keep up to date with Beautynook, don’t forget to follow me on social media. Or you can subscribe to the blog to get a notification every time I upload a new post 🙂
