It’s April Favourites time! Yep April is over, yep it’s nearly half way through 2016, no I am not panicking, why do you ask 🙂

April Favourites 2016

I started up doing monthly favourites again last month ( here ‘s Last months in case you missed them). And so I am back again a month later with my April Favourites for 2016 🙂

I did it in rambling video form again, let me know if it’s something you enjoy,or would you prefer it in a blog post format. I will list all the products always here on my website too though.

  • The first product is the Organic Surge Extra Care Brightening Hot Cloth Cleanser. I found it online from Inish Pharmacy here. It costs €16.95.
  • YSL Volume Effect Faux Cils Waterproof, there’s a full blogpost about this here and you can buy it online from Boots here
  • Essence Prettifying Lip Oil
  • Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Addiction, €5.49 from Boots here
  • theBalm MaryLou-Manizer. I have a full review here. You can buy it online from Cloud10beauty here It costs €21.50
  • Mac Book Air. I bought mine from Power City but I can’t find a link online. Here’s a link to it through Harvey Norman
  • And last but not least Lemonade from Beyonce (which I am currently listening to yet again as I write this 🙂 ) I signed up to Tidal to watch it. You can sign up for a month’s free trial. If you do just be sure to turn off the subscription roll over or you’ll be charged for the next month, unless you want to keep using it of course 🙂

And that’s it, these are some of my April Favourites. Be sure to let me know some of the things you’ve been loving for the month of April. Can you believe it’s no May? Madness altogether.

As always thanks for reading (and watching) I really appreciate it.

So many of you told me you love watching Get Ready With Me style videos. I love watching them too (not my own though if I’m being honest ha) So here’s a Spring Makeup one, where I am basically applying a face of makeup that I would wear for a Spring day/early evening. Myself and himself were off for some Friday eats this day so I thought it would be a appropriate because I was actually doing my makeup to go somewhere, not just for the sake of filming 🙂

This is more of a talk through style video, which I still haven’t completely mastered, words still elude me 🙂 But I thought I would give it a whirl and sure don’t they say practice makes perfect, right?

Irish beauty blogI used a mixture of more affordable and more high end makeup which is a true representation of my normal makeup routine. I like to mix it up 🙂

I picked up the Catrice High Glow Mineral Highlighting Powder a couple of months back now.

Catrice High Glow Mineral Highlighting Powder

Catrice, as you probably know if you read Beautynook alot is one of my favourite super affordable brands, so I am always stalking the stands in Penneys and my local chemists for the new releases.

The High Glow Mineral Highlighting Powder in 010 Light Infusion is one of them.

irish beauty blogger

This is one of the prettiest more affordable highlighters I have ever tried.

irish beauty blog catrice

It’s a baked powder and Catrice say it is ‘Infused minerals and fine light-reflecting pearls for a luminous look’

To me, it’s a pearl coloured highlighter, but I think it depends on your skin tone how pearl toned it appears. On my pale skin it has more of a coolness to it, kind of similar to theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer which I have a review of here, but just more on the subtle side.

If you look close there is definitely a sparkle to the Catrice High Glow Mineral Highlighting Powder, but it’s not chunky or unflattering.

top irish beauty blog

As this is a baked product, the texture is powdery when applied with a brush, but if you apply with your fingers it is soft to the touch, so don’t let the fall out deter you. When I apply it to my cheekbones, I normally use my fingers to press it into the skin.

You can always dampen your brush too or use a sticky base underneath to give the product more opaqueness. Here it is applied with a dampened brush on the left versus to dry on the right.

irish makeup and beauty blog

For me, I like that it has more of a subtle glow to it, I already have full on highlighters in my collection like Mary-Lou and Becca’s Champagne Pop (review here).

Overall, I am a big fan of the Catrice High Glow Mineral Highlighting Powder. I think it would work on many different skin tones. It’s gorgeous as a standard highlighting on the high points of the face, as an eyeshadow and an inner corner highlight too!

The fact that Catrice gave this one a name ‘Light Infusion’ would lead me to believe there may be more colours released in the future 🙂

You should be able to pick it up from any good Catrice stockist, including Penneys. I can’t find a stockist selling it online, but if you head to Pointy, they will give you in-store sellers around the country.

The Catrice High Glow Mineral Highlighting Powder will set you back €5.50 for 8 grams of product.

I already have makeup looks with all the Urban Decay Naked palettes here on Beautynook. You can check out Naked 1 look here, Naked 2 here, Naked 3 here and Naked Smoky here. I did a look with the Naked 2 the other day and put a couple of selfies up on my Facebook page and some of you seem to like it and asked me to film a tutorial, thank you by the way 🙂

irish beauty blogger urban decay naked 2irish beauty blogSo, I did it, well attempted to anyways 🙂 I am really new to this Youtube thing, but I gave it my best go and managed to recreate this really easy Urban Decay Naked 2 makeup look. I am not a makeup artist so I am going to call them makeup looks rather than tutorials, hope you don’t mind.

If you like this video, it would make my day if you went over to my youtube channel and subscribed. I am going to try my best to be consistent with it.

Thanks, as always for stopping by.

Let me know what you think.

I have a full blown cold, like most of the people in Ireland at the minute, right? Lovely start to the year 🙂 Life goes on though and we have to suffer through. This is my go to  simple makeup for when I’m feeling a little under the weather. Let me blow my nose one last time and we’ll begin…

I have oily skin so I wouldn’t be adding radiance to my face on a regular basis, but when I am under the weather my skin does tend to dry up a little more so I can weirdly take advantage.

botanics radiance balmI added a good amount of the Botanics Radiance Balm onto cleansed skin (I have a full review of this stuff here, we all need it in our lives).

For some lip hydration I applied some of the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream, literally can’t be without this. I apply it every night before bed, and when I have a cold it goes under my nose too helping with the extra dryness.

eight hour creamirishbeautyblog

I still have to prime, so I did and then it’s foundation time, thank god! I used a damp Beauty Blender to apply a thin layer to my skin.

beauty blenderirish beauty bloggerI think the sponge feels more kinder to your skin when you’re feeling a little rough.

I used it for concealer too.

irish makeup blogirish makeup bloggerI applied some waterproof concealer around my nose, just a light layer, it’s going to diminish pretty quickly with all the nose blowing, but if you set it with powder you’ll get a little time out of it 🙂

For the actual makeup look, I think the softer the better.

I filled in my eyebrows.

soap & glory archery brow pencilI used a skin colour eyeshadow primer to conceal any redness on my lids.

irish beauty blogTo brighten up the eyes I applied a light gold cream shadow stick all over the eyelid.

irish makeup and beauty blogirish makeup blogOver the top I applied a similar coloured shimmery shadow.

irish makeup bloggerTo add a little definition, I added a matte taupe shadow lightly into my crease.

sick day makeup lookbeauty blog irelandI applied a a light shimmery shade to the brow bone.

irish blogLastly, I added a really small amount of the taupe shade on the lower lash line too.

irish bloggerI needed a touch more concealer under the eyes then…those bags ain’t Chanel 🙂

beauty blog ireland

To brighten up the eyes more I applied some skin coloured eye liner to the waterline. This is a great step to tackle any redness and make you look more awake.

easy makeup look

Curl the bejesus out of your eyelashes. I know it’s simple makeup, but I never neglect the lashes.

simple makeup lookThen, lots of mascara on the top lashes. I opt out of mascara on the bottom ones because lots of watery eye shenanigans happen and of course the compulsory sneezing…it’s not worth it even the waterproof kind.

Makeup For A Sick Day (23)

Bronzer is a nice addition, to warm up the complexion a smidgen. There’ll be no contouring today though 🙂

fresh makeupmakeup tutorialI added some peachy blush rather than pink, as I already have enough pinky flush going on.

mac springsheen blushsimple makeup lookI applied some light setting powder all over the face, nothing to heavy. There’ll be alot of face touching throughout the day, no point caking it on. You can always re apply.

irish beauty bloggerI couldn’t resist a little highlighter, but it’s not necessary whatsoever. A little in the inner corner of the eye always helps I think though 🙂

the balm maryloumanizeririshbbloggerinner corner highlightTo finish off this simple makeup look I just applied some glossy balm to the lips.

catrice lip smoother

And we’re done!

gemma beautynookI didn’t go into depth with the products I used, because I think they’re all stuff you already have lying around or that you use everyday. This is definitely not a glam face of makeup, it’s more of a I want to look human and survive the day makeup!

If you’ve been hit with the January plague like myself, feel better soon 🙂

I have put off writing about Mary-Lou Manizer, even though I have her in my possession a long time now. I felt like she was well represented in the blogging community. Everyone was writing about her and rightly so! She deserves to be talked about in loving tones 🙂

This is why now I am choosing to add my little blogpost to the pile.

Mary-Lou Manizer the BalmMary-Lou Manizer has reached cult status, and most makeup lovers own and love her (yes I am calling her a her 🙂 Just in case you haven’t come across her though I felt like it was my duty as a blogger to share her with you.

Mary-Lou Manizer by the Balm is of course a powder highlighter.

irish beauty blog beautynook

It is buttery, it is smooth and it is beautiful!

beautynook beauty blog

It is a light champagne colour, so it’s great for paleys like myself. Although it looks sparkly in the pan, it translates onto the skin as a shine rather than glitter, so don’t let that deter you.

irish beauty blog

beauty blog

Here it is blended into the skin

Depending on how you apply it, you can get a subtle glow from it or you can go all out and shine so much, the aliens in space can see you 🙂

mary-lou manizer swatch

irish beauty blog review mary-lou manizerIt is also the perfect inner corner highlight to finish off an eye look, to make your eyes pop. AND it is lovely used all over the lid aswell (multifunctional don’t ya know 🙂 )

irish beauty blog review the balmAnd it works great over the upper lip to create the illusion of a bigger one. I love this trick as my lips are definitely not symmetrical.

irish beauty blog beautynook review mary-lou manizer the balmI have oily skin and tend to create my own glow as the day wears on, so I powder pretty heavily. I hate my skin to look flat and powdery though. A wash of Mary-Lou sorts that right out for me and helps gives my face a bit of life and dimension. It lasts really well on my skin too, which is such a bonus, as I feel alot of highlighters I have tried through the years tend to just soak into after a couple of hours and disappear.

If you are a makeup fan, you need Mary-Lou Manizer by the Balm in your life, I think the product speaks for itself, right?

Cloud10 Beauty stock the Balm. You can get Mary-Lou Manizer here and it will set you back €20.50
