Gem's August Faves

Yep, it’s August Favourites time, holy moly, it’s nearly Christmas!! A bit premature I know but I loves Christmas so any excuse to talk about it and I will ๐Ÿ™‚

Ok, back to the topic in hand sorry for getting distracted…it happens very easily. Anita did her August faves here, be sure to check them out.

I have a couple of new skincare faves in the month of August. Pixi’s Glow Tonic is one of them.

Pixi Glow Tonic

This toner contains ingredients like witch hazel, aloe vera, ginseng and glycolic acid to gently exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells. It is also meant to help with toning and firming. I think this has really helped with the texture of my skin, without completely drying it out. I am super oily so I would spend my days over exfoliating thinking this would help, it doesn’t. It just ends up dehydrating my skin and making it harder to manage. I feel this toner is gentle enough to use everyday and clears pores without completely stripping the natural oils away. I am really enjoying using it. I picked this up from Mise Beauty for 20 Euro.

Another skin fave, which is on a completely different price spectrum. I admit, I did not purchase this, it was in a goody bag I received. You can find it in Space NK or Feel Unique stock it too. It’s in and around 165 Euro to buy, holy crap! I can’t say I would pay this money for it to be honest, but I have been enjoying using it.

Perricone MD Cold Plasma

This is the Perricone MD Cold Plasma. It’s suitable for all skin types. I think it’s more marketed towards being an anti ageing, and I do feel like it plumps your skin up (although I’m pretty plump already ๐Ÿ™‚ ). It also helps with enlarged pores though which is something I suffer from and I feel like it’s doing something slowly but surely for me, without filling in the pores and giving me more blackheads and whiteheads which can happen to me with rich moisturisers.ย  It has a funny nearly jelly like consistency and gets a layer on the top of the cream which is odd, and the smell is not very pleasant.

Perricone

They’re are rave reviews about the Cold Plasma online, so I am going to keep using it and see if I can look ten years younger by the end of the pot. You’d want to for that dosh!

I know it’s a bit ridic for me to be claiming love for a fragrance when I have it only less than a week, but I think with a perfume when you know you know… I also bought it at the beginning of September so I’m technically cheating but I’m a tad obsessed.

Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt

This is the newest Jo Malone Cologne in Wood Sage and Sea Salt. I know it doesn’t sound very inviting, but bare with me and give it a sniff the next time you are in Brown Thomas . I won’t dare try to describe it, but I’ll just say if you like musky but still sweet fragrances you will love this. It’s the perfect Winter scent and it makes me happy just sniffing it. I think it will become a regular in my perfume line up ๐Ÿ™‚

I have a makeup fave next.

Sleek eau la la liners

These are the Eau la la Liners by Sleek Makeup. We speak a stupid amount about Sleek on Chatterbox I know, but it’s a bloody good affordable brand, we need to shout it from the rooftops! These liners can be used as eye or lip liners and come in an abundance of shades. I always think “drugstore brands” lack in the lip liner department and just do the basic colours, but Sleek have you covered! They are creamy, pigmented, soft and long lasting, what more can I say to sell you on them, oh yeh they’re 5.99 Euro and you can get them online, from Mise Beauty and Boots Liffey Valley and Blanchardstown. I want them all!

My next fave is not a new thing to me at all, in fact I have been using them for years, but I thought I lost it at the start of the month and I was traumatised.

Tweezerman

Turns out it was only hiding from me! This is my newest Tweezerman Tweezers. I have had a few over the years. They are hands down the best tweezers I have ever used and it took “losing” it to realise how brilliant and nimble it is. I have stubborn coarse eyebrow hair and this thing just gets them out in record time with the least amount of pain. I never want to be without again.

I came across these Invisibobbles at the Ultimate Girls Day Out event in the RDS mid August. The Essential Salon Supplies booth had them. They intrigued me so I had to grab some and check them out.

Invisibobble

Let’s begin with, I know they’re not invisible ๐Ÿ™‚ But these weird phone wire looking plastic bobbles, grip and hold your hair in place without pulling or loosening on your hair. They don’t give you a headache from being too tight and they are comfortable to wear in bed which is what I use them for primarily. Sometimes I pop my hair in a bun with one when it’s damp, and the next morning I’m left with a kink in my hair which I’m quite fond of.

Ok last favourite from me this month, the Elf Daily Brush Cleanser.

Elf Daily Brush Cleanser

I literally have this for god knows how long tucked away in a drawer collecting dust. I just forgot about it. It’s so important to clean your makeup brushes. Like everyone I don’t always remember to deep clean them and then I run out of clean ones andย  I have to clean them all together. It’s a boring job that I don’t think anyone enjoys. Something like the Elf Cleanser is great to have because it is anti bacterial so after you use a brush you can spray it and wipe it clean in a tissue so it’s clean and germ free for your next application. The brush dries much quicker so you don’t have to wait around like you do when you deep clean them. It’s great for that in between stage before your big clean is due, and Elf is so affordable AND this stuff smells great too which is an added bonus ๐Ÿ™‚

So there you go, some of my loves from the month of July. I know I cheated a little with the perfume, don’t judge me too much.

As always thanks for reading and have a fantastical September.

Welcome to the dark side

The only things I really like about the colder weather coming is wearing jumpers and changing up my makeup, the rest of it…not so much. My main makeup love in Autumn and Winter is rocking dark lips. I just love how it looks with a neutral eye, and it can really dress up a plain look and give it more dimension. Since the 90’s is alive and kicking in the 00’s, dark lips are so on point at the minute.

I have a few favourites in my collection, so thought I would show you some of my most worn for some lippie inspiration.

I think one of the most well down dark shades is Rebel by Mac.

Mac Rebel

Rebel

This is the first darker lipstick I ever bought. I gave into the hypeย  and I am not disappointed in the slightest! This is the perfect plum colour. It’s a satin formula, pigmented, easy to apply, blue toned and lasts really well on the lips. The flash on my camera doesn’t quite do it justice.

Rebel

Ok, the next two were just impulse purchases. I have to be honest, they are both nearly the same colour as Rebel, that’s when you know you’re a makeup junkie! I get shopper amnesia!! Saying that, if you couldn’t get near a Mac they are fantastic dupes.

Urban Decay’s Venom is more of a creamy formula with a sheeny finish on the lips, which is comfortable to wear but it tends to wear and move more quickly.

Urban Decay Venom

IMG_3709

I adore the packaging of these Revolution lipsticks, they feel so luxurious in your hands and I love the gunmetal finish. You can find Urban Decay in Debenhams.

Venom

If your budget won’t stretch to the Mac or the Urban Decay heights, Inglot do a fantastic version of the plum lipstick trend, number 293.

Inglot 293

IMG_3740

Like Venom it’s a more moisturising formula than Rebel.

Inglot 293

Inglot do really great lipsticks, this was the first one I have bought, but I definitely will buy more in the future.

I would always try to use a lip pencil with such dark, pigmented colours to help to get a crisp line and even lip shape. Mac’s Currant lipliner is well known to be best friends with Rebel.

Mac Currant Lip Pencil

Currant

Sleek do a great version of the colour in the Eau La La Liner collection called ironically Venom too though so no need to break the bank.

Sleek Eau la la Venom

Venom

Mac’s Heroine is well…pretty out there as lipstick colours go.

Mac HeroineHeroine

As you can see, it’s purple ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s a matte finish with a warm undertone, so if you are conscious about the whiteness of your teeth, Heroine is probably not the best choice for you. Of course, this colour is not for the faint hearted, but it is the pantone colour of the year, so very on trend.

Heroine

We are big fans of Sleek Makeup here at Chatterbox. It’s such a great affordable brand. With Boots in Liffey Valley and Blanchardstownย  stocking it now too, it makes getting your hands on it even easier. Their matte liquid lipstick in Fandango Purple, for me is a great mix of the plum and purple trend. I think it has elements of both colours incorporated into it.

Sleek Matte Me Fandango PurpleIMG_3718

As the name suggests these liquid lipsticks are a matte formula, so your lips need to be in tip top condition before application. They last really well on the lips though and come with a doe foot applicator so a little easier to apply than straight out of a bullet if you don’t possess a lip brush.

Fandango Purple

Of course, these are by no means all the dark lippies on the market, just a selection of the ones I own and have worn and tested. Are you bold enough to wear a plum or purple lip? I think, just like a red or an orange lip it makes your makeup feel extra special and can make you look like you made an effort when you might have just thrown on some BB cream and mascara. If you are too scared to wear the colour full on, pat it into the lips for a more diffused look, it will still look beautiful.

But I say give it a go, it’s only makeup, you can wash it off ๐Ÿ™‚

Makeup Geek Eyeshadows

My Makeup Geek Eyeshadows

The Makeup Geek brand is slowly and surely starting to become a more recognized brand around the world. As a makeup junkie I have known of Marlena (owner and creator of the brand) for a few years now as she started out as a blogger and YouTube makeup guru. I have already reviewed some of the pigments that she has created here and given some info on the brand so I won’t bore you with that again. But I will say I LOVE the pigments and would really recommend them if you are in the market.

So… onto the shadows. You can avail of them in pan form. They are priced $5.99 which is very reasonable and then the tax and delivery is pretty reasonable too. I keep all of mine together in Z Palettes. Mise Beauty in Dundalk have Z Palettes available from the store or online as do Makeup Geek themselves. These are magnetic palettes that you can place your pans in any way you wish. They come with magnets too if the item you want to put in them is not magnetic, so handy ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve made a few purchases off the Makeup Geek site and have gathered eye shadows from all ends of the colour and finish spectrum, so read on to see my collection (so far) swatched and named. I did not use a primer purposely to show the pigment and texture of the shadows on their own.

Phew….are you still with me? ๐Ÿ˜› That’s alot of scrolling I know. I wanted to show them individually though because sometimes when things are swatched together the camera doesn’t capture them enough.

As with all eyeshadow brands texture and finish vary from shadow to shadow. I can whole heartedly say Makeup Geek are doing a fantastic job though and for the price and amount of product you get in the pan these are absolutely brilliant and dare I say comparable to the almighty MAC! I use these shadows most days to make looks with just them or in corporation with bases and other shadows. They blend well, have great colour pay off and last on oily lidded me (with a primer of course). I think my fave so far if I had to pick would be Mermaid, Peach Smoothie, Bling and Burlesque.

Be sure to let me know if you have tried any Makeup Geek products. Aswell as shadows and pigments, they offer liners, blush brushes and lipsticks galore so they are building up quite the brand! I need to get my hands on more I know that for sure ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for sticking with me and if you buy anything after reading this post please let me know, it warms the cockles of my heart!

Birthday

So I turned another year older not too long ago, 29 to be exact. One step closer to 30 Arrrgggghhhhh, no I’m not worried about that in the slightest ๐Ÿ˜›

My lovely friends and family were very kind to me (and I was a bit kind to myself too) so thought you might want to nose at what I got, perhaps for some shopping inspiration or just to window shop.

First up, is my main pressie from the boyfriend, I dropped many a hint for these.

Raybans

These are the Rayban Clubmasters. I am a sunglasses junkie and have wanted these for ages.

Rayban Clubmasters

I am going through a bit of a 90’s phase at the minute as are alot of people and these sunnies fit right in with this ๐Ÿ™‚

Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb

He also treated me to a fresh bottle of my very beloved fragrance Viktor&Rolf’s Flowerbomb. I love this perfume so much. It’s flowery and musky all at the same time, and lingers on your skin for ages, I think I will always have a bottle of this in my perfume collection.

Diptique Mimosa Candle

Out of some bday cash, I treated myself to another smelly item. This is Diptyque candle in the scent Mimosa. I am obsessed with this smell, it makes me happy, if you are ever in Brown Thomas or Spacenk, give your nostrils a treat and take a whiff. This is definitely not an everyday purchase, it set me back 50 quid, madness I know, but Diptyque candles burn beautifully and the scent really fills the room, so I do think you get your money’s worth out of them.

Ted Baker Mint Makeup Bag

I got this gorgeous mint green Ted Baker makeupbag for my handbag, I couldn’t resist. BT2 were having a sale and I picked up this little beauty for 21 euro. Don’t think that’s too bad at all, and it fits perfectly into my handbag.

I bought some posh bits of makeup to add to my every growing collection.

By Terry

I have been after this for ages and it’s always out of stock, so when Spacenk opened in Grafton Street, and they had it I literally jumped on it. This is the very coveted By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Misty Rock.

Misty Rock

This is my second Ombre Blackstar I have Bronze Moon too which I absolutely adore. This one however, I think is going to be my favourite. It is the prettiest mauvey purple colour, that shimmers in the light, and nearly looks wet on your eyelids. It may need its own blogpost soon ๐Ÿ™‚

By Terry Ombre Blackstar

Another makeup wish was granted from the new Spacenk.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette

This is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. Hourglass do these setting and highlighting powders separately but to be able to get them in a palette form really makes me happy as you can have the 3 of them in 1.

Hourglass

Hourglass palette

There is 3 setting/highlighting powders in the palette. Dim Light, Incandescent Light and Radiant Light. Again this product may need it’s very own blogpost soon ๐Ÿ™‚

I bought some Boots in Office while out on my Birthday travels.

Office Boots

Office Black Boots

These cut out boots were on the sale rack and I couldn’t resist. I think they’ll work for hot and cold weather aswell as with dresses and trousers. At 46 euro I think they were a bargain and I will get a lot of wear from them.

The last thing I bought I really feel bullied into. Everyone is obsessed with this palette and won’t stop talking about…so well I had to invest ๐Ÿ˜›

Lorac Pro Palette

I won’t waffle on too much about it because I had to buy it on eBay and it hasn’t come yet, but the internet is ripe with blogposts about how fab it is.

I should probably leave it there and stop milking the birthday, think I’m a bit old for that now ๐Ÿ™‚

If you have any of these be sure to let me know what you think. I love your feedback.

Thanks,

Gemma

Lush Haul

I love Lush, there I said it! I cannot walk past the shop without going in and sniffing treats until I feel faint. I see the bath-bombs as an necessityย  to get through the working week, even at their ridiculous prices. On my last trip to Lush I picked up the Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner.

Ro's Argan Body Conditioner

Lush tells you to use this product just as you would hair conditioner. You put it on wet, already cleansed skin, massage it in and then rinse off. It has a similar consistency to hair conditioner and similar ingredients so I suppose the comparison make sense.

Lush Ro's Argan Body Conditioner

Ro’s Argan was apparently invented by Rowena the creator of Lush because she wanted to have the same soft feeling on her skin as she got from using conditioner on her hair.

If you dislike the scent of Rose, you will probably not want to use this product as it smells strongly of the scent. It’s not my favourite of smells but I overcome it because I love the stuff so much and it doesn’t linger for too long on the skin afterwards once you’re finished throwing on deodorant, body spray and perfume ๐Ÿ˜›

This body conditioner is filled with lots of lovely, natural (as Lush products always are) ingredients that are great and feel lovely. Cocoa butter, cupuacu butter, almond oil and Argan oil are among the list.

I have gone through different brands that have similar in shower moisturisers, which were lovely, and I enjoyed using them, but this is the only one so far that I can honestly say leaves my skin soft and hydrated until I shower next and I don’t need to top it up with a normal moisturiser if I don’t want too.

You are left with an oily residue after using this product so again if this is something you dislike, steer clear ๐Ÿ™‚

Ro’s Argan does not come cheap, this 225g pot will set you back 19.95, I think your skin is worth it though, and you can always just keep it for those lazy days when you don’t want to get out of the shower and THEN moisturise!

If you are in the market for a new way to keep your skin supple and soft, you don’t mind the smell of roses and you are ok with the slight oily residue it leaves behind, then I truly recommend this product.

Lush are a natural, vegan brand and are against animal testing which helps too!

Have any of you used Ro’s Argan or anything similiar? Be sure to let me know.

Thanks loads,

Gemma

Having oily skin doesn’t mean you have to have matte skin all the time. You can add glow strategically without adding oil or unwanted shine. I love the way cream and liquid highlighters look on other people but for me after wearing one for about an hour, I look like I’ve put my face in a chip pan…not cute. So I get my glowy kick from highlighters of the powdered variety. Here are a few of my firm faves from my stash.

Dior Highlighter

These are the only Dior products that I own…at the minute and I liked this product so much, I got both colours of the powder highlight, very bad I know.

Dior Shimmer Powder Rose Diamond

Rose Diamond

This is Dior’s Shimmer Powder in Rose Diamond. I love these highlighters because they’re so versatile and so they should be for how much they cost. They have a gradient colour so Rose Diamond goes from a blush pink that can be used as a blush to a light nearly white shimmer highlight.

Rose Diamond Swatches

The other one is Amber Diamond

Dior Amber Diamond

Amber Diamond

Amber Diamond is the gold version of this highlighter. So it gives more of a bronzer glow, and again has a gradient of colours from a tan to a lighter, nearly white gold.

Amber Diamond Swatch

These highlighter are in no way glittery, it’s shimmer all the way, they are lovely and soft so are easy to blend. You can choose the colours easily in the palette or give them all a swish with the brush to give yourself a coloured glow. I love using the lighter part these for an inner eye corner highlight too, need to get the moneys worth ๐Ÿ™‚

Had to add a Mac Mineralize Skin Finish into my mix.

Mac Mineralized Skin Finish Soft & Gentle

Mac Soft & Gentle

This is Mac’s Soft & Gentle. It’s a gorgeous goldy bronze highlighter. Again, it’s not really glittery as I am not a fan.

Mac Mineralize Skin Finish Soft & Gentle Swatch

This is more of a hardcore highlighter especially for someone who is as pale as me (Mac NC20), so I reserve this for a night out on the town, it photographs lovely. I’ll use this for an eyeshadow too all over the lid, with a nice matte taupe in the crease, gorgeous ๐Ÿ™‚

I wanted to add in a blush too to show you don’t need to splurge and buy a highlighter too you can get a lovely highlighted effect from blush as well.

Nars Orgasm

Nars Orgasm

This is my very beloved and very battered Nars blush in Orgasm. I think every makeup lover in the land has at least heard about this blush and has probably owned it at one stage. It is the perfect peachy pinky easy to wear blusher. But what is great about it is it has the prettiest gold fleck going through it which makes it a gorge highlighter as well.

Nars Orgasm Swatch

It makes your cheeks glimmer, without being too overpowering. Love it!

Keeping on the frugal end of the spectrum, you do not have to splurge to be fabulous and glowing. You can have a look in your stash and I am sure you will find a lovely light eyeshadow that will do the job perfectly for you. These are a couple of my favourites from my collection for inspiration.

Inglot Pearl 393 Makeup Geek Bling

Shimmery Eyeshadow

Here are Inglot’s Freedom System’s Pearl Shadow in 393 and Makeup Geek’s Bling. I love these for highlighting my tear duct, the eyelid and the top of the cheekbones.

Swatch Inglot 393 Makeup Geek Bling

You can find colours similar to these in any eyeshadow palette or quad, I’m sure you all have one, so why not give it a go?

Phew…I’m all highlighted out now ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for sticking with me.
