I go through lip colour stages where I gravitate towards a more brown nude or a more pinky nude on the daily. Obviously, there will be a smattering of other colours thrown in on special occasions. On an everyday basis though, I will be rocking a more ‘everyday appropriate’ colour. Generally, I tend to go for a matte finish too. It lasts longer and they are less messy. If my lips are feeling a little drier on a particular day, I’ll pop a bit of lip balm over top. My go to pink toned nude combo, are both from Rimmel.

Rimmel Nude Lip

I am a big big fan of Rimmel lip products. You’ll see me talk about them alot here and on social media. I particularly always repurchase their retractable Exaggerate lip liners when I run out. And they do run out quite quickly, the formula is very soft. It means they apply really easily, but they wear down fast as a result.

Rimmel Pink Lip

My go to everyday pink nude combination consists of the infamous Rimmel ‘Eastend Snob’ lip liner.

Rimmel Eastend Snob

Yes, I harp on about this all of the time. I even did a post on it here comparing it to Charlotte Tilbury ‘Pillow Talk’. I own both and reach for this more. It’s great for just waking up the lips and giving some natural-ish colour. It works really well for over lining without looking too obvious aswell. I love it worn just on it’s own.

When I want it to last longer and make it more opaque and lipstick like (if that makes sense, ha?). I apply the Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick in 200 ‘Salute’ on top.

Rimmel The only 1 matte lipstick

This is a really similar colour, with more pink to it. Eastend Snob is a little more mauve in tone.

I have a post on The Only 1 Matte Lipsticks here, this will give you a more in depth review. I love the formula. It’s a more creamy matte. The smell of these is intense though. It is super floral and sweet. Definitely not my favourite scent ever, but I look past it because I love the finish.

Rimmel Eastend Snob is available in store or online from Boots here. Exaggerate lipliners retail for €5.59. Salute is available from Boots in store or online here. The Only 1 Matte Lipsticks retail for €8.99

These two together just rock my pinky nude lip world. And let me even out my uneven lip line without looking too obvious or over the top. I hope πŸ™‚

This is a weird sentence, but it took me a while to warm to highlighters. With my oily skin, adding glow was just never a thing I wanted to do. But as makeup has developed and become more long lasting. I can mattify and then add shine when I want too. I feel liberated πŸ™‚ Over the last couple of years I have been adding them to my makeup collection like a fiend. Powder more than anything else. One of my latest highlight purchases I want to talk about it the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in ‘Pearl’.

Becca shimmering skin perfector pearl

I know how good Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors are. I have ‘Champagne Pop’ and ‘Prosecco Pop’ in my possession already. And although I love them and reach for them, they are both a little dark for my complexion. But by god I make them work!

I had some Christmas money burning a hole in my pocket a couple of weeks back and pottered into Spacenk. I bloody love that place. On the spot decided I wanted a new Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector. The formula and pigmentation is just so nice. They melt into the skin. They also don’t disappear completely on me after a couple of hours of wear. I had a swatch of all of them and after careful thought, went with ‘Pearl’. Believe it or not, I actually don’t have a highlighter in my collection that is this icy white. Comparing it to the other swatches I thought it would compliment my pink toned Irish skin the most.

It swatches on the arm how you would expect. Icy and shimmery.

When you apply it with a brush to the skin, it’s much lighter and leaves more of a cool toned shine with a hint of shimmer. The formula allows you to build up the intensity too without looking too powdery.

I have nothing bad to say. It’s a great addition to my collection and I’m delighted my shopping whim paid off πŸ™‚

The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector comes with 7 grams of product. I picked up Pearl in store here in Dublin for €36. You can get them from the Spacenk website here too for Β£32.

I picked up the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation after seeing so many good things about it online.

Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation

And as someone with an oily skin type I thought I would be the perfect candidate to give it a test drive πŸ™‚

catrice cosmetice ireland

The Catrice HD Liquid Coverage foundation (according to Catrice) is meant to be: ‘Second Skin. The HD Liquid Coverage Foundation offers a high but natural-looking coverage, while feeling extremely lightweight – just like a second skin. Whilst providing a smooth and even complexion, the ultra-liquid texture is extremely high performing and long lasting. It covers imperfections up to 24 Hours and mattifies the skin. The extremely high definition finish is sure to make the skin beautifully even and camera ready.’

It comes in four shades which isn’t really alot in my opinion. I am in the lightest shade they do 010 ‘Light Beige’ and it is a really good match for my Mac NC20 skin tone. If you are lighter than me though or have a more medium to deep skin tone, you are not covered in the shade spectrum at all.

The product itself comes in a glass bottle with a pipette lid. I understand why they give you the pipette. The foundation is quite runny, I think a pump would have sufficed though. But sure that is just personal preference :). I don’t tend to use the dropper, I just use it as more of a stick to swipe the product onto my hand…or face. I don’t recommend that though, it is not sanitary. πŸ˜›

A little goes a long way with this foundation. It has really decent coverage without looking too caked onto the skin. You can build it up or sheer it out depending on how much you apply. It has a scent that reminds me of baby powder which I enjoy.

It does have a matte finish, but not so matte that your skin feels dry or uncomfortable. But for me, with more oily skin, I do prefer the finish I get applying it with a dampened sponge. It gives me more control over the product and means I can build it up to my liking. The finish with a brush is a little bit too matte for me. Ironic I know, but it’s just personal preference πŸ™‚ It also dries really quickly so I feel you get a little more play time using a wet sponge.

Here is my skin with just primer on it:

Then, with another layer of foundation applied in the same way:

You can definitely see a difference in the before and after. The redness is gone and my skin is definitely looking smoother and more uniform in colour.

Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation review

So, I really like the coverage, I like the finish (with a sponge) how about the longevity?

It claims to be 24 hours, but sure don’t they all. None of us really wear our makeup that long so we will never really know. On my skin personally, after powdering, it doesn’t last as long as other foundations I use or have used in the past and liked do. It doesn’t oxidise ,but I definitely see shine at around the third hour mark. I can handle a little bit of shine coming through, but this is usually shine I have to tend too. However, I am particularly oily, especially around my t-zone so I am an extreme case. If you have more combination skin, I don’t think it will be as bad.

The Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation is in all decent Catrice retailers now, including Penneys. I paid €7.90 for it in a local chemist and Inish Pharmacy stock it online here if fancy trying it for yourself.

Let me know your thought. Have you tried it?

Through the years of wearing makeup and then becoming a bit of a makeup fiend, I’ve realised just how beneficial eyeshadow primer really is. I haven’t strayed very far from the cult classic Urban Decay Primer Potion. I’ve bought a lot of their palettes. And with alot of the palettes you get a sample of the primer potion. It works well for me so I never really felt the need to try something else. However, I received a few pretty decent samples of theBalm Put A Lid On It Eyelid Primer in a goody bag a while back and I must say, tentatively… I think I prefer it πŸ™‚

theBalm Put A Lid On It

I’ve been using theBalm Put A Lid On It for a good 3 months now, so I think I’ve given it a fair trial.
theBalm Ireland I have two 3.7 ml sample sizes and I am still on the first on! When it comes to eyeshadow primer, like your face primer, less it more. You only need a very small layer of it under your eye makeup to do its magic. I sometimes use it under my eyes too to help my concealer sit a bit better too!

theBalm Put A Lid On It

theBalm Put A Lid On It comes out of the tube in a skin colour, but when you blend it across your eye lid, it is pretty much undetectable.

It has a really light texture and smooths over any imperfections you might have. It dries down really quickly too and makes it very easy to apply creams or powders over top.

Of course, the main job of a eyeshadow primer is to make your eye makeup last and theBalm Put A Lid On It does a really good job at that. I have oily lids so I think I am a pretty good judge because without a primer, within a couple of hours I get creasing on my eye lids.

If you are looking for a primer that makes you shadows more vibrant, this probably isn’t for you. There are others on the market for that. But, if you are looking for one that smooths out your eyelids, is not sticky or tacky and makes your shadows last for the whole day, I wholeheartedly recommend this. As much as I like the Urban Decay Primer Potion, it can be a bit drying on the lids, whereas theBalm Put A Lid On It is a bit more fluid in texture and is easier to blend.

A 11.8 ml tube of theBalm Put A Lid On It will set you back €20 from Cloud 10 Beauty here.

Do you use eye shadow primer?

I am in disbelief that it is in fact August. But, the calendar on my phone has told me it is, and I must obey the mighty iPhone. This means that it’s time to look back over the last month and pick out some of the things I have been using and loving throughout it. Here are my July Favourites for 2016 πŸ™‚

irish beauty blogger

They are all beauty related for July, there’s no curve balls πŸ™‚

July Favourites

Initially I had the L’Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation included too (which I have a full review of here). Something happened with the footage though and I lost it, so apologies for that! But I have been loving it. It gives you high spf, light but build-able coverage and feels really nice on the skin. What’s not to like about that πŸ™‚

irish beauty blogJuly Favourites

The July Favourites that actually made it into the video include:

The Nyx Vivid Brights liquid liner in ‘Vivid Envy’. I did a look with this bad boy here if you fancy seeing it in action.

Colourpop Supershock eyeshadows in both ‘LaLa and ‘Game Face’. I have a Colourpop haul post with these in it here. Bloody love these!

The Scandal Queen Fairydrops mascara. This is new to me, but I had to add it in because I have been loving it! You can pick it up from Cult Beauty here and I will do a full review on it very soon πŸ™‚

And then finally I talk about the Klorane products I have been using and loving. They are a plant based hair care brand. They have been around for years and I had never tried anything from them until now!

If you want to watch the video directly from Youtube just click here, or you can just click on it above.

There you have it, my July Favourites for 2016. What have you been loving lately? Let me know.

I was sent three of the very soon to be released Seventeen Mega Matte Lipsticks. Since they are due for release on the 3rd of August, I thought I better get them swatched asap and give you a closer look of the shades I have in my possession.

seventeen mega matte lipsticks ireland

According to Seventeen, “This Summer’s bold, matte lip couldn’t be easier with the launch of new Seventeen Mega Matte lipsticks. The makeup bag must have range of 12 long lasting, high impact shades glide on smoothly for pout perfecting colour.”

Seventeen Mega Matte Lipsticks

The shade range of the Seventeen Mega Matte Lipsticks is pretty varied. It covers those of us who enjoy a nude or muted lip colour and then caters to the more daring lipstick colour risk takers πŸ™‚

The three colours I have from the range give a good indication of the colour spectrum I think.

irish beauty blogirish beauty blogger

I have “Nude News” which is of course the nude matte of the bunch. It is a pink toned nude.

Then, “Lava You A Lot”. An intense orange matte shade.

And finally, “Violet Summer”. A pinky matte purple. Which although feels matte, does have a kind of pink iridescent to it.

My first impressions of the Seventeen Mega Matte Lipsticks are good! I love the packaging, I do enjoy a thinner bullet on a lipstick πŸ™‚

I find myself less inclined to squash them with the lid and I find application a bit easier too. The texture of the lipsticks themselves is soft and applies well. Like with any matte lipstick though, your lips need to be in good condition as dry patches will show through. They are of course drying on the lips too, although I don’t find them too tightening or uncomfortable.

I’ve only swatch them so far, so I can’t tell you yet about staying power, but be sure to ask me on social media over the next while and I can let you know how I got on wearing them out and about πŸ™‚

The Seventeen Mega Matte lipsticks are available from Boots in store and online here from the 3rd of August. Their recommended retail price is €6.29.
