I thought I would chance doing a review in video form. I don’t do these very often just because I am more comfortable writing my thoughts than saying them out loud a lot of the time. It’s hard sometimes to show the coverage and finish of product in pictures though. So, here are my musings on the Kat Von D Lock It Foundation in all of their rambling glory 🙂

I’ve already done a post on the Lock It concealer here if you’re interested in my thoughts on that too.

Kat Von D Lock It Foundation

I bought the concealer and brightening powder (and the Shade & Light Palette), when the counter first opened here in Dublin. I was lucky enough to meet up with the PR here a while back and they kindly sent me home with the Kat Von D Lock It foundation. They colour matched me to the shade 46 Cool. I wanted a cooler tone to counteract the redness in my skin. The shades come in warm and neutral tones too.

As I say in the video, this foundation does oxidise and darken a little. I probably could have done with a shade lighter. However coming into the warmer months, I should just get away with it.

Overall, I am a big fan of this foundation, if you are looking for full coverage with a demi matte finish on the skin. I think the longevity is really good too without it being too drying either. Click on the video above or here to see it in action properly.

You can buy the Kat Von D Lock It Foundation in store from bigger Debenhams stores or online here. Have you tried it yet? Or any of the other Kat Von D products on offer here? I need to get my hands on some of the new brow products pronto 🙂

*******PR SAMPLE********

I picked up the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation after seeing so many good things about it online.

Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation

And as someone with an oily skin type I thought I would be the perfect candidate to give it a test drive 🙂

catrice cosmetice ireland

The Catrice HD Liquid Coverage foundation (according to Catrice) is meant to be: ‘Second Skin. The HD Liquid Coverage Foundation offers a high but natural-looking coverage, while feeling extremely lightweight – just like a second skin. Whilst providing a smooth and even complexion, the ultra-liquid texture is extremely high performing and long lasting. It covers imperfections up to 24 Hours and mattifies the skin. The extremely high definition finish is sure to make the skin beautifully even and camera ready.’

It comes in four shades which isn’t really alot in my opinion. I am in the lightest shade they do 010 ‘Light Beige’ and it is a really good match for my Mac NC20 skin tone. If you are lighter than me though or have a more medium to deep skin tone, you are not covered in the shade spectrum at all.

The product itself comes in a glass bottle with a pipette lid. I understand why they give you the pipette. The foundation is quite runny, I think a pump would have sufficed though. But sure that is just personal preference :). I don’t tend to use the dropper, I just use it as more of a stick to swipe the product onto my hand…or face. I don’t recommend that though, it is not sanitary. 😛

A little goes a long way with this foundation. It has really decent coverage without looking too caked onto the skin. You can build it up or sheer it out depending on how much you apply. It has a scent that reminds me of baby powder which I enjoy.

It does have a matte finish, but not so matte that your skin feels dry or uncomfortable. But for me, with more oily skin, I do prefer the finish I get applying it with a dampened sponge. It gives me more control over the product and means I can build it up to my liking. The finish with a brush is a little bit too matte for me. Ironic I know, but it’s just personal preference 🙂 It also dries really quickly so I feel you get a little more play time using a wet sponge.

Here is my skin with just primer on it:

Here it is with one layer of the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation applied with a Real Techniques Miracle Sculpting Sponge (which I have a review of here).

Then, with another layer of foundation applied in the same way:

You can definitely see a difference in the before and after. The redness is gone and my skin is definitely looking smoother and more uniform in colour.

So, I really like the coverage, I like the finish (with a sponge) how about the longevity?

It claims to be 24 hours, but sure don’t they all. None of us really wear our makeup that long so we will never really know. On my skin personally, after powdering, it doesn’t last as long as other foundations I use or have used in the past and liked do. It doesn’t oxidise ,but I definitely see shine at around the third hour mark. I can handle a little bit of shine coming through, but this is usually shine I have to tend too. However, I am particularly oily, especially around my t-zone so I am an extreme case. If you have more combination skin, I don’t think it will be as bad.

The Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation is in all decent Catrice retailers now, including Penneys. I paid €7.90 for it in a local chemist and Inish Pharmacy stock it online here if fancy trying it for yourself.

Let me know your thought. Have you tried it?

I cannot believe I’ve never talked about the Revlon Colorstay Foundation here on Beautynook. It’s one of the most popular foundations on the market and it was probably one of the first to come out in different formulas to cater for more drier and more oily skin types.

Revlon Ireland

I have oily skin so I of course use the Revlon Colorstay foundation in the combination/oily skin formula. Both formulas have an spf of 15. I have here, what I believe is the lightest shade they do ‘110 Ivory’.

Revlon Colorstay Foundation

This is a tad to light for me in the summer months, but in the winter it matches pretty well. I have tan on in the swatches here which looks a bit ridiculous, but I think it also shows the coverage that the Revlon Colorstay Foundation actually has too.

It has a pretty thick consistency and can be a bit harder to blend into the skin than some other foundations out there. Revlon finally revamped the bottle though and gave us a pump which is awesome. It’s been a long time coming.

When it was first released you just had to dump the product on something and hope for the best.

For me, the Revlon Colorstay foundation has pretty much full coverage.

Here’s my skin before application:

I just used a kabuki brush to blend it into the skin.

You can definitely feel this foundation on your skin, it sits on top of it and is visible. The longevity is good and if you have any breakouts or imperfections it will cover them well so you won’t need as much concealer.

Two even three years ago if someone asked me for a more affordable oily skin foundation recommendation, the Revlon Colourstay would have been it no questions asked. However, I think brands have come along way with foundation formulas and we have more options out there now. As I get older, although I still get breakouts so want decent coverage and of course I want good staying power, I also want my skin to be able to breath somewhat and I don’t think Colorstay really allows that. I prefer to apply it with a damp sponge myself, it makes it look less cakey and noticeable on my skin. I end up usually mixing it with other foundations if I want to lighten them or bulk up the coverage. I rarely reach for it to use on it’s own.

So there you go, there’s my two cents on the cult classic that is the Revlon Colorstay Foundation. Is it still your holy grail?

You can buy online here or in store from Boots and it will set you back €18.99.

Through the years of wearing makeup and then becoming a bit of a makeup fiend, I’ve realised just how beneficial eyeshadow primer really is. I haven’t strayed very far from the cult classic Urban Decay Primer Potion. I’ve bought a lot of their palettes. And with alot of the palettes you get a sample of the primer potion. It works well for me so I never really felt the need to try something else. However, I received a few pretty decent samples of theBalm Put A Lid On It Eyelid Primer in a goody bag a while back and I must say, tentatively… I think I prefer it 🙂

theBalm Put A Lid On It

I’ve been using theBalm Put A Lid On It for a good 3 months now, so I think I’ve given it a fair trial.
theBalm Ireland I have two 3.7 ml sample sizes and I am still on the first on! When it comes to eyeshadow primer, like your face primer, less it more. You only need a very small layer of it under your eye makeup to do its magic. I sometimes use it under my eyes too to help my concealer sit a bit better too!

theBalm Put A Lid On It

theBalm Put A Lid On It comes out of the tube in a skin colour, but when you blend it across your eye lid, it is pretty much undetectable.

It has a really light texture and smooths over any imperfections you might have. It dries down really quickly too and makes it very easy to apply creams or powders over top.

Of course, the main job of a eyeshadow primer is to make your eye makeup last and theBalm Put A Lid On It does a really good job at that. I have oily lids so I think I am a pretty good judge because without a primer, within a couple of hours I get creasing on my eye lids.

If you are looking for a primer that makes you shadows more vibrant, this probably isn’t for you. There are others on the market for that. But, if you are looking for one that smooths out your eyelids, is not sticky or tacky and makes your shadows last for the whole day, I wholeheartedly recommend this. As much as I like the Urban Decay Primer Potion, it can be a bit drying on the lids, whereas theBalm Put A Lid On It is a bit more fluid in texture and is easier to blend.

A 11.8 ml tube of theBalm Put A Lid On It will set you back €20 from Cloud 10 Beauty here.

Do you use eye shadow primer?
