We’re talking mauve lip combos today! I reckon I could write a thesis on mauve lip products. It’s probably my most worn shade, at the minute at least.

I have tonnes of different of ones in my makeup collection and as with anything, I tend to dip in an out of different ones. At the moment, my most worn mauve lip is a combination of two products.

Now let’s be real. Two products are not really necessary, I know. And I like both of these products equally on their own. I just find combining the lip liner with the liquid lipstick, I get a crisper lip line, my top lip definitely needs a bit of help in the plumpness department which I find easier to do with a pencil. Also layering both of them gives the colour more staying power!

My mauve lip liner love is Mac Cosmetics ‘Soar’.

I am way late to the ‘Soar’ party, but I am very glad I finally got there. I am a huge fan of Mac Lip Liners, and this colour is just the perfect mauve shade. Not the cheapest at €17.50 a pop, but the formula is lovely, they don’t drag on the lips, the pencil sharpens to a really good point if you like to overdraw and they are really pigmented.

Mac Soar Lip Liner
Mac ‘Soar’ is available from Brown Thomas here. The liners come in an abundance of shades though.

My second mauve lip love is from Paese Cosmetics. I haven’t tried much from the brand as of yet. It’s been Ireland a few years now though. I was sent some of their lip products a while back and literally fell head over heels in love with the Silky Matt Liquid Lipstick in 707.

This is such a lovely, richly pigmented product. Although it does dry down matte, it dies down to more of a velvet finish on the lips. Moves around a little more but it doesn’t crack or ball up.

Paese Silky Matt 707

This is much more of a comfortable formula than what we’ve come accustomed to in a matte liquid lip. They remind me of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams with more colour density and more longevity on the lips. And of course the shade, for me, is the perfect mauve tone. You can buy Paese from their Irish website here. The Silky Matt lipsticks retail for €13. They also have a kiosk in the Ilac Centre here in Dublin. Matte liquid lippies always photograph with the flash more shiny, but I promise this has a velvet finish (you can see it in more true to finish and colour here without the flash:

And there you have my favourite mauve lip combination of the moment.

I’ve shared her all over social media, I know. I am now the proud owner of the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lipstick.

charlotte tilbury pillow talk lipstick

I wasn’t going to write this post, just because I know it’s been spoken about alot at the moment. But I thought feck it, she’s pretty, I want to show her in action 🙂

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk

I already own the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Cheat Lip Liner. John bought it for me for my birthday last year. I did a post on it here at the time, comparing it to Rimmel’s Eastend Snob. They are compared alot and obviously there’s a big price difference.

John kindly bought me the lipstick after seeing me conversing about it so much with some awesome blogger buddies. The boy did good 🙂 The packaging is perfection, I adore the rose gold corrugated tube.

irish beauty blog beautynook

It is a Matte Revolution formula, which is described on the website as a ‘Luminous Modern-Matte Lipstick’.

To me, the formula has more of a satin finish. It applies really smoothly and opaquely to the lips. The colour, on me applies like a brown toned nude, with a hint of pink. You can see both Pillow Talks swatched on my arm below. The colour really is identical.

Here is the lipstick applied to the lips on it’s own:

Then, the lip liner on it’s own:

And then both together:

Of course, you do not need to buy both products. If you want to keep the lipstick true to colour though and make it last longer, it is a nice addition. I find the liner a bit too drying, so I think I will be more inclined to use the lipstick. The formula is much more forgiving on the lips. I will say I am not a huge fan of the scent. To me, it smells like a mixture of caramel and flowers. It does dull down after a while though.

At the moment the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk lipstick is exclusive to the website. This means you have to get it shipped from the UK, which adds to the price. You can shop for it here and the lipstick alone costs €32. It is definitely a luxury purchase.

Would you splurge?

I go through lip colour stages where I gravitate towards a more brown nude or a more pinky nude on the daily. Obviously, there will be a smattering of other colours thrown in on special occasions. On an everyday basis though, I will be rocking a more ‘everyday appropriate’ colour. Generally, I tend to go for a matte finish too. It lasts longer and they are less messy. If my lips are feeling a little drier on a particular day, I’ll pop a bit of lip balm over top. My go to pink toned nude combo, are both from Rimmel.

Rimmel Nude Lip

I am a big big fan of Rimmel lip products. You’ll see me talk about them alot here and on social media. I particularly always repurchase their retractable Exaggerate lip liners when I run out. And they do run out quite quickly, the formula is very soft. It means they apply really easily, but they wear down fast as a result.

Rimmel Pink Lip

My go to everyday pink nude combination consists of the infamous Rimmel ‘Eastend Snob’ lip liner.

Rimmel Eastend Snob

Yes, I harp on about this all of the time. I even did a post on it here comparing it to Charlotte Tilbury ‘Pillow Talk’. I own both and reach for this more. It’s great for just waking up the lips and giving some natural-ish colour. It works really well for over lining without looking too obvious aswell. I love it worn just on it’s own.

When I want it to last longer and make it more opaque and lipstick like (if that makes sense, ha?). I apply the Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick in 200 ‘Salute’ on top.

Rimmel The only 1 matte lipstick

This is a really similar colour, with more pink to it. Eastend Snob is a little more mauve in tone.

I have a post on The Only 1 Matte Lipsticks here, this will give you a more in depth review. I love the formula. It’s a more creamy matte. The smell of these is intense though. It is super floral and sweet. Definitely not my favourite scent ever, but I look past it because I love the finish.

Rimmel Eastend Snob is available in store or online from Boots here. Exaggerate lipliners retail for €5.59. Salute is available from Boots in store or online here. The Only 1 Matte Lipsticks retail for €8.99

These two together just rock my pinky nude lip world. And let me even out my uneven lip line without looking too obvious or over the top. I hope 🙂

Have you a favourite go to everyday lipstick?

Ok, this is probably the most ridiculous posts I will every write, but hear me out 🙂 I have spoke about this before in other posts aswell as on social media. I do not justify it, but I use TWO mascaras generally on a daily basis! Madness I know. I want something that holds a curl, lengthens and defines up top. Down below, I want something that lengthens, separates and doesn’t flake or smudge. This is where the Mac Extended Play Lash comes in.

Mac Exended Play Lash

Now I will say I don’t always repurchase it. I don’t find it does great things for my top lashes. For me, it’s just OK. I much prefer the likes of Catrice Glam & Doll Waterproof which I have an old review of here, or my ride or die Fairydrops Scandal Queen mascara, review here. Scandal Queen does hold tight on the bottom lashes but I find the brush a bit cumbersome and the formula a bit thick for my sparse hairs.

beauty blogger ireland

When I bite the bullet and reintroduce Mac Extended Play Lash into my routine, I just fall in love with it all over again. It’s a treat for my bottom lashes. And they deserve it, they don’t have a lot going on in their lives!

Mac Extended Play Lash

Extended Play just works so well, so every once in a while, I choose to be apologetically extra and pick one up. The wand is thin and reasonably small, so it makes it easy to really get in and coat all of the hairs. The formula is quite wet which I think is beneficial for your lower lashes because you can really pack the product on without it clumping or making the hairs bunch together. It does a really good job (for me anyways) of making my bottom lashes look longer and so much fuller. I generally have pretty boring short lashes naturally.

mac cosmetics ireland

The one thing that makes me buy it again and again though is that it doesn’t budge when you put it on, but the waterproof formula is not a pain to get off either. On me, it never flakes or smudges on my lower lash line. I’ve never had this with any other mascara except probably the Clinique Bottom Lash.

Of course people use it on their top lashes as well and love it, but it really has become a bit of a cult bottom lash mascara. I think it’s fair to say I bloody love it 🙂

You can buy Mac Extended Play Lash in Mac and Brown Thomas in store. Or online from BT here. It costs €20. So tell me, do you think I’m crazy? 🙂

I did a post similar to this last here year for my first Christmas in Beautynook world. It’s a festive red lip for under a fiver. I still love and use both of products I used, these are just alternatives for your 2016 Festive Red Lipstick look 🙂

festive red lipstick

I think a decent lip liner is as important as the lipstick you choose when rocking a red lip. You can by all means go for a more soft approach and that’s beautiful too. But, when you’re going full out bright and Christmas-sy red, I think a crisp lip line is important. And you don’t want any bleeding, I mean lipstick bleeding but of course we don’t want any bleeding at all 🙂

festive red lipstick

For this year’s festive red lipstick lip liner, I went with the Rimmel Exaggerate in ‘Red Diva’.

irish beauty blog

I am a big fan of the Rimmel Exaggerate lip liners. They are super soft and easy to apply. And they now have an angled twist up nib which I find really handy for outlining and correcting my lip line. ‘Red Diva’ is the perfect classic red colour and actually works really nicely on it’s own as well.

This costs €5.49 and you can get it from the Boots website here.

The lipstick I chose is a new release for 2016. It’s one of the new Lip VIP’s from Sleek Makeup. It is called ‘Walk Of Fame’.

These are a semi matte formula lipstick. They are really creamy, pigmented and very comfortable to wear.

I just think both of these products together are a really lovely and affordable festive red lipstick combination. The Sleek Lip Vip’s are available from Boots too for €7.49 here.

Matte lips are everywhere at the minute so I thought I would go old school with more of a creamy textured combo. Layering the products means they are still long lasting but they won’t dry out your lips as much.

It is such a cliché I know, but I just love a red lip during Christmas time 🙂

I picked up the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation after seeing so many good things about it online.

Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation

And as someone with an oily skin type I thought I would be the perfect candidate to give it a test drive 🙂

catrice cosmetice ireland

The Catrice HD Liquid Coverage foundation (according to Catrice) is meant to be: ‘Second Skin. The HD Liquid Coverage Foundation offers a high but natural-looking coverage, while feeling extremely lightweight – just like a second skin. Whilst providing a smooth and even complexion, the ultra-liquid texture is extremely high performing and long lasting. It covers imperfections up to 24 Hours and mattifies the skin. The extremely high definition finish is sure to make the skin beautifully even and camera ready.’

It comes in four shades which isn’t really alot in my opinion. I am in the lightest shade they do 010 ‘Light Beige’ and it is a really good match for my Mac NC20 skin tone. If you are lighter than me though or have a more medium to deep skin tone, you are not covered in the shade spectrum at all.

The product itself comes in a glass bottle with a pipette lid. I understand why they give you the pipette. The foundation is quite runny, I think a pump would have sufficed though. But sure that is just personal preference :). I don’t tend to use the dropper, I just use it as more of a stick to swipe the product onto my hand…or face. I don’t recommend that though, it is not sanitary. 😛

A little goes a long way with this foundation. It has really decent coverage without looking too caked onto the skin. You can build it up or sheer it out depending on how much you apply. It has a scent that reminds me of baby powder which I enjoy.

beauty blog ireland

It does have a matte finish, but not so matte that your skin feels dry or uncomfortable. But for me, with more oily skin, I do prefer the finish I get applying it with a dampened sponge. It gives me more control over the product and means I can build it up to my liking. The finish with a brush is a little bit too matte for me. Ironic I know, but it’s just personal preference 🙂 It also dries really quickly so I feel you get a little more play time using a wet sponge.

Here is my skin with just primer on it:

Here it is with one layer of the Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation applied with a Real Techniques Miracle Sculpting Sponge (which I have a review of here).

Then, with another layer of foundation applied in the same way:
Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation review

You can definitely see a difference in the before and after. The redness is gone and my skin is definitely looking smoother and more uniform in colour.

top irish beauty blog
Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation review

So, I really like the coverage, I like the finish (with a sponge) how about the longevity?

It claims to be 24 hours, but sure don’t they all. None of us really wear our makeup that long so we will never really know. On my skin personally, after powdering, it doesn’t last as long as other foundations I use or have used in the past and liked do. It doesn’t oxidise ,but I definitely see shine at around the third hour mark. I can handle a little bit of shine coming through, but this is usually shine I have to tend too. However, I am particularly oily, especially around my t-zone so I am an extreme case. If you have more combination skin, I don’t think it will be as bad.

The Catrice HD Liquid Coverage Foundation is in all decent Catrice retailers now, including Penneys. I paid €7.90 for it in a local chemist and Inish Pharmacy stock it online here if fancy trying it for yourself.

Let me know your thought. Have you tried it?
