Gem's January Faves 2015

January has been and gone, we are officially into 2015, where is the time going? The end of a month means monthly favourites in my world, and so I am here to divulge some of the things I have been loving and using throughout the month of January 2015.

I firstly have something I have already prattled on about here so I’ll keep it short.

Rimmel Nude Foundation

You can read the full review if you want my full opinions on Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Nude Foundation, and to see it on the skin. This has been the only foundation I have pretty much used in the month of January though. It is cheap, has good medium coverage, long lasting…and I like it! That pretty much sums it up 🙂

Up next I have one of my Christmas presents.

Black Leather Accurist Watch

Accurist Rose Gold and Black Leather

My Accurist rose gold and black leather watch. I have been wearing this nearly every day since I got it. I think it’s very classic but understated and seems to go with everything. It’s also light and comfortable. It is actually a man’s watch, but I like bigger watches so this appeals to me. I want one of these in every colour 🙂

I am a big believer in washing your face thoroughly before bed with a cleanser or a face wash whatever you use. I wear waterproof mascara and liner alot and these can be a pain and a bit messy to take off with a cloth or you hands so I like to use an oil based makeup remover just on my eyes to make washing my face then a little easier.

Botanics All Bright Eye Makeup Remover

This Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover was on sale in Boots. I think it was less than €3, so picked it up to try. It does a really great job. I don’t even look when I am doing it. I just soak two cotton pads in it and gently rub my eyes with. It does the job really great. It’s also meant to condition your lashes which is a plus. If you are looking for an affordable paraben free range, give the Botanics in Boots a look.  I really like the face wash from this range too, I really recommend them.

I think I mentioned this in a favourites post gone by, but I am throwing it again because I have not been able to get enough of it this month.

Yonka Invigorating Dry Skin Toner

This is the Yonka Invigorating Dry Skin Toner, which is an aerosol toner. Do you like the Caudalie Beauty Elixir? Well then you’ll love this. It smells sooooo nice and earthy and it is really calming and hydrating on the skin. It contains lovely things like Lavender and Thyme (hence the smell) .It’s pricey but I need to buy a full sized bottle of it!

I have a couple of duo items up next.

Penneys Mittens Soap & Glory Whipped Clean

The first is the Soap & Glory Whipped Clean Shower Butter and then these funny little exfoliating mittens that I randomly picked up in good oul Penney’s. These two together for me are a match made in heaven. The wash is really emollient and moisturising on the skin and feels really luxurious. I’ve found using this with the exfoliating mittens really nice, as although I am getting rid of any dead skin cells with the abrasive gloves, the wash keeps the skin feeling nourished and looked after. The Whipped Cream smells of almonds which I am not a fan of, but I suck it up 🙂

My next duo are for the lips.

Rimmel Lip Liner Eastend Snob Charlotte Tilbury Bitch Perfect

This is Rimmel’s lip liner in Eastend Snob and on of the Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick Charms in Bitch Perfect. How pretty and tiny are these lipsticks? We both got the little trio of lippies for Christmas. Mine is mashed a bit, sorry. I did that after a few alcoholic beverages and didn’t twist the bullet back down properly.

I am not really a nude lip person very often. But just something about this duo made me feel comfortable. Perhaps because it’s more of a pinky nude, so I don’t feel completely washed out. I’m pale enough as it is 🙂 Eastend Snob is a great liner to have if you are looking to slightly over draw your lips or you just want to even out your lip line.

East End Snob Bitch Perfect

My last favourite for this month is the Fuchsia Pro Collection Palette.

Fuschia The Pro CollectionFuschia The Pro Collection

I have been reaching for this so much of late. It’s great that an Irish brand are doing these pans that you can put into a zpalette and customise the colours to suit yourself. I had never really used the Fuchsia brand until we were kindly gifted these at a blogger Christmas Party. This one was prefilled, I did not choose the colours, but the colours in it are lovely. There is something for everything and everyone from cool tones to warm, neutrals to brights and shimmery to matte. The colour pay off is really nice and they blend well too. They also come in an array of colours and finishes. I will be investing in more for sure.

There you have it. January summed up in beauty products. That’s what we are here for, right?

Thanks for reading my ramble.

Orange Lip Products

I have already listed some favourite red lipsticks here, pink lipsticks here and even some bolder darker choices here. So I thought the natural progression would be…some oranges. I pick up an orange number more than you would think on a day to day basis, it can really brighten up a look, and make it fresh and interesting. Like any lippies you can go wild and full on or you can do it under stately. It all depends on your preference, or what mood you are in that day 🙂

I picked 5 from my collection that should cover all bases when it comes to finish, pigment, glossy and matte.

First up is an offering from Shiseido.

Shisedo OR418

This is in the Shade OR418

Shiseido

Shiseido OR418

This is a glossy but pigmented lippie. I actually got this in one of my Chic Treat Club boxes and I have gotten so much use out of it. It’s a lovely true orange shade, that’s moisturising on the lips and is really easy to wear. Really need to try more Shiseido, it’s so readily available in Irish pharmacies.

Next up is more of a sheer orange gloss in the form of Revlon’s Colorstay Moisture Stain.

Revlon Moisture Stain 025 Cannes Crush

This is in the shade 025 Cannes Crush

revlon cannes crushRevlon ColorStay Moisture Stain 025 Cannes CrushThis is a more subdued peachy orange for those of you who just want a hint of a tint. The great thing about the Revlon Moisture Stains is that when the non sticky gloss wears off they still leave you with a bit of colour on your lips. They are so easy to wear too and the doe foot applicator is small and nifty so the product is really easy to apply.

I picked a peachy shade for my next choice. I know everyone doesn’t want bright shiny or orangey lips.

This is one of the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in 04 Peach Club

This is in the shade 04 Peach Club

04 peach clubBourjois Rouge Edition Velvet 04 Peach Club

The camera makes these come up shiny but I promise they’re matte 🙂 I’ve waffled on about these Rouge Edition Velvet’s before so I won’t bore you with the details. This colour is so wearable for all skin types. It really brightens up a look without looking like you tried too hard, and believe me these last all day too.

I choose probably one of the most infamous shades to talk about next. You cannot talk about orange lip products without having this involved.

Mac Lipstick Lady Danger

This is of course Mac’s Lady Danger

Lady DangerMac Lady Danger

When you want to make a statement you wear this…simple. It is a vibrant red toned orange lipstick of loveliness. If you like a bold lip, and don’t have Lady Danger, add it to your shopping list, you won’t be disappointed. Just looking at it in the bullet gets me all a flutter 🙂

My last choice here in orange heaven is of the pink toned variety for again the girls who don’t want to go full on orange.

Sleel Matte Me 434 Party Pink

This is one of the Sleek Matte Me Lip Creams in 434 Party Pink

434 Party PinkSleek Matte Me 434 Party Pink

When they say these are matte, they really really mean it. I had left this one until last to swatch and my lips just shrivelled up, so apologies. You can still see the colour though. It’s a gorge pinky orange shade, that would be perfect for the warmer weather. Some tinted moisturiser, mascara and Party Pink would be the perfect pool party combo. It’s such a fun colour. Just be sure to exfoliate and moisturise the lips before applying 🙂

I picked 5, but I really could have picked 10. You would have been here all night reading about orange lipsticks though and I am sure you don’t want that.

Some food for thought anyway and all of these are readily available in Boots, Brown Thomas (for Mac of course) and pharmacies nationwide.

Cheers,

Gemma

Rimmel Provocalips Chatterbox.ie

I posted a picture on Facebook of my Rimmel Provocalips I had just gotten and was loving, and you peeps seems to be a tad interested. So, I figured I would do a quick blog post on them in case you were thinking of adding some to your lippie collection in the near future. I was even so dedicated that I went out and bought two more…all in the name of blog research I assure you 🙂

The Provocalips are the next level after the Apocalips from Rimmel. To be honest, I bought a couple of these when they came out, but they didn’t float my boat as much as some of the other offering of liquid lipsticks on the market, so they never made it onto Chatterbox.

The Provocalip however, I am enjoying alot. They are a similar to the Apocalips in theory, but they are less sticky and gunky and easier to wear in my opinion.

I am not  huge fan of the packaging of the Provocalips. This is completely a personal preference, it’s a bit childish and cheap for me, but I don’t mark them down for that as it’s as your mammy always says, it’s what is on the inside that counts.

The product comes in two phases. Step one is colour and step two is the lock & shine.

They both have doe-foot applicators.

Provocalips

The colour part is rich, pigmented and goes on pretty smooth, you can get away with only one layer if you are in a hurry or don’t want the full whack of colour. I myself go for at least two. The colour dries down on your lips pretty quickly and is a bit sticky to the touch but makes your lips feel like they have a mask on too if that makes sense? It’s not the nicest of sensations.

This is when you add the lock & shine. I will say this is a bit messy, the lock & shine is clear and the applicator is white, you will inevitably get the colour on it and ruin the appearance. This doesn’t really bother again as you cannot see through the tube so no one else has to see what you are working with.

Gloss&Lock Rimmel

The lock & shine doesn’t quite offer it’s namesake in my opinion. It locks in the colour, allows your lips to move again after the colour restricting them a bit from drying in. Oh it also smells nice which helps too 🙂 The shine doesn’t last very long, it is like a top coat and wears away quickly. For me, this is perfect, I only crave a really glossy lip once or twice a year. It gives a bit of slip to your lips without being sticky or annoying so that’s great but I would take the word shine with a grain of salt.

Now, your lips are locked and loaded and ready to go, Rimmel says Provocalips are 16 hour lip colours. I have never worn one for 16 hours so I cannot verify this. I will say I have worn them all through a work day, with breakfast and lunch in between and although the colour is not still perfectly there on your lips, it is definitely still there! I’ve made the mistake of brushing my teeth after coming in from work and getting a lovely ring of colour all around the toothbrush head…lovely! On a side note, when I was taking pictures of them on my lips, I had to do each colour on completely separate occasions because once the colour was on it was a nightmare to try get off completely. Thank god I only have three 🙂

So, to show you the colours I have on the lips.

We have the first one I bought.

200 “I’ll Call You”

Rimmel Provocalips-Chatterbox (5)200 I'll Call You

I'll Call you

Then, the other two I bought together.

500 “Kiss Me You Fool”

500 Kiss me you foolRimmel Provocalips 500swatch 500 Kiss Me You Fool500 Kiss Me You Fool

Nice no?

I apologise to all of you nude lip fans out there, there was two of them in the Provocalip collection (that I could see on the shelf), but nude lips really don’t suit me most of the time, so I picked up the ones I would get the most use out of, the dusky pink, the blue tone hot pink and of course the red.

I bought the Provocalips in Boots. They do not seem to have them on the Irish Boots site yet, but in store they are 8.99euro. A pretty mid range price in my opinion.

So what do we think of them? Do they wet your whistle at all? Be sure to let me know.

And if there is anything else, you would like me to review or any feedback at all, leave us a comment down below, I love to chat 🙂

Thanks,

Gemma

Welcome to the dark side

The only things I really like about the colder weather coming is wearing jumpers and changing up my makeup, the rest of it…not so much. My main makeup love in Autumn and Winter is rocking dark lips. I just love how it looks with a neutral eye, and it can really dress up a plain look and give it more dimension. Since the 90’s is alive and kicking in the 00’s, dark lips are so on point at the minute.

I have a few favourites in my collection, so thought I would show you some of my most worn for some lippie inspiration.

I think one of the most well down dark shades is Rebel by Mac.

Mac Rebel

Rebel

This is the first darker lipstick I ever bought. I gave into the hype  and I am not disappointed in the slightest! This is the perfect plum colour. It’s a satin formula, pigmented, easy to apply, blue toned and lasts really well on the lips. The flash on my camera doesn’t quite do it justice.

Rebel

Ok, the next two were just impulse purchases. I have to be honest, they are both nearly the same colour as Rebel, that’s when you know you’re a makeup junkie! I get shopper amnesia!! Saying that, if you couldn’t get near a Mac they are fantastic dupes.

Urban Decay’s Venom is more of a creamy formula with a sheeny finish on the lips, which is comfortable to wear but it tends to wear and move more quickly.

Urban Decay Venom

IMG_3709

I adore the packaging of these Revolution lipsticks, they feel so luxurious in your hands and I love the gunmetal finish. You can find Urban Decay in Debenhams.

Venom

If your budget won’t stretch to the Mac or the Urban Decay heights, Inglot do a fantastic version of the plum lipstick trend, number 293.

Inglot 293

IMG_3740

Like Venom it’s a more moisturising formula than Rebel.

Inglot 293

Inglot do really great lipsticks, this was the first one I have bought, but I definitely will buy more in the future.

I would always try to use a lip pencil with such dark, pigmented colours to help to get a crisp line and even lip shape. Mac’s Currant lipliner is well known to be best friends with Rebel.

Mac Currant Lip Pencil

Currant

Sleek do a great version of the colour in the Eau La La Liner collection called ironically Venom too though so no need to break the bank.

Sleek Eau la la Venom

Venom

Mac’s Heroine is well…pretty out there as lipstick colours go.

Mac HeroineHeroine

As you can see, it’s purple 🙂 It’s a matte finish with a warm undertone, so if you are conscious about the whiteness of your teeth, Heroine is probably not the best choice for you. Of course, this colour is not for the faint hearted, but it is the pantone colour of the year, so very on trend.

Heroine

We are big fans of Sleek Makeup here at Chatterbox. It’s such a great affordable brand. With Boots in Liffey Valley and Blanchardstown  stocking it now too, it makes getting your hands on it even easier. Their matte liquid lipstick in Fandango Purple, for me is a great mix of the plum and purple trend. I think it has elements of both colours incorporated into it.

Sleek Matte Me Fandango PurpleIMG_3718

As the name suggests these liquid lipsticks are a matte formula, so your lips need to be in tip top condition before application. They last really well on the lips though and come with a doe foot applicator so a little easier to apply than straight out of a bullet if you don’t possess a lip brush.

Fandango Purple

Of course, these are by no means all the dark lippies on the market, just a selection of the ones I own and have worn and tested. Are you bold enough to wear a plum or purple lip? I think, just like a red or an orange lip it makes your makeup feel extra special and can make you look like you made an effort when you might have just thrown on some BB cream and mascara. If you are too scared to wear the colour full on, pat it into the lips for a more diffused look, it will still look beautiful.

But I say give it a go, it’s only makeup, you can wash it off 🙂

We all love a bold red lip or a nice nude, but I am sure I’m not the only one with pinks dominating my lipstick/stain/balm collection? Pink Lipstick overload 🙂

Chatterbox Pink Lipsticks

Ever since I  decided to get braces maybe 3 or 4 years ago, which made me more confident, my lipstick obsession has grown and grown. I wish I didn’t wait this long to enjoy them though, I think there’s colours and finishes out there for everyone, we just have to try and test  to find what we are most comfortable with. I thought I would round up some of my favourite pink hues and finishes that grace my own personal collection in hopes to inspire you to maybe go out of your comfort zone even a little. If I can do it, anyone can 🙂

I’ll ease you in to my pink frenzy gently with this.

Elf Lipstick Gypsy

Elf Lipstick

Elf

This is an Elf lipstick in the shade Gypsy. It’s the perfect every day pink colour. For me, it’s a my lips but better shade. It feels nourishing, and lasts really well on me and I can literally just smear it on without any hassle. You can buy Elf online, it’s such a reasonably priced brand with a huge range of products. This lippie cost 2.39. Madness! You can buy it here.

Next up is a bit more on the pricier side, but still a very wearable shade.

YSL Rouge Volupte Number 29

YSL Rouge Volupte

Rouge Volupte No 29

How pretty is this packaging? This is a YSL Rouge Volupte in the shage 29. It is a creamy nude pink. I like to wear this dabbed on the lips for a subtle hint of pink that is very moisturising. The YSL Rouge Volupte’s are very much a treat product. They are priced at 33 Euro. You can buy them from Brown Thomas.

Now that I’ve lured you in I’ll go onto a little bit more of a brighter shade of lip colouring, still very wearable though, don’t want to scare you yet 🙂

Nyx Matte Lip Cream Adis Ababa

Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream

Nyx

This is a Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa. I love the Nyx Lip Creams, they are very buildable so you can just do a wash of colour or layer it up for a more intense effect depending on what you fancy. They are called Matte lip Creams, but I think they have a slight sheen to them and do not completely dry on the lips like other brands (I may talk about one later 🙂 ). They last well and can be very well priced. However the Nyx brand can be hard to get your hands on here in Ireland. Beauty Emporium do stock the brand but do not always have a lot of items in stock. Littlewoods Ireland are stockists also. I usually buy mine from Ebay if I can find a decent seller.

Ok, I’m going to get into some of the more colourful pinks that I stock in my stash 🙂

Lime Crime Contessa Flourescent

Lime Crime Contessa Flourscent

Lime Crime

This is Lime Crime’s lipstick in Countessa Flourescent. Lime Crime do the coolest lipstick packaging ever! I know what your thinking Barbie bubblegum pink overload, but the formula is quite wearable, it’s pigmented and creamy and goes on really opaque. I will admit I probably wouldn’t wear this quite as full on as in the picture above, I am not that brave, but I love to dab this lipstick on and rock it a bit more washed out. I bought this lippie at London Imats, but you can buy Lime Crime from Love Makeup and Cocktail Cosmetics. The lipsticks are £12.50 GBP.

I have a Mac firm fave next.

Mac Show Orchid

Mac Show Orchid

Mac

This is Mac’s Show Orchid. It is an Amplified formula, which is a fab blue toned hot pink. Girl About Town from Mac is probably one of my first pink loves from them, but Show Orchid I think is a lovely choice too because it’s not completely matte,  it has a nice sheen to it. If your a makeup fanatic like me, I suggest both, I can’t choose between them 😛 You can buy Mac from the usually stockists eg: Brown Thomas for 19.00Euro

My last pink lovely to show off is an offering from Bourjois.

Bourjois Edition Lip Cream Velvet 06

Bourjois Velvet Edition

Bourjois

This is one of the new Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks. This is number 6 of the bunch, there is a few to choose from. I love these!! I have three of the shades and I love every one of them. They go on a dream, the  doe foot applicator makes the extremely pigmented colour glide onto the lips really easily. The colour dries matte (my camera flash gave it a bit of a shine but I promise it’s matte). This stuff lasts all day. I went out for a drink one night with the boyfriend just to test it out of course 🙂 and I had a fair few beverages and it was still there in all it’s glory at the end of the night and even some the next day as it does stain the lips.  They don’t transfer very much either when on,, which keeps smearing to a minimum. I know lots of brands have their own version of these, but these are my favourites of the minute. You can buy them from Boots for a reasonable 10.99. I got mine on 3 for 2, score 🙂

So there you have it, a sneak into my pink world, according to my lips. I have lots more but I think these are the ones I have been reaching for most often and there is an option and shade in there for everyone.

Hope you enjoyed. If you have any suggestions for more be sure to tweet us, facebook, instagram us or pop it below, I love chatting to you.

Thanks,

Gemma

Top 5 Red Lipsticks

I love a red lip and I thought this was an appropriate time of the year to talk about my top 5, with Valentine’s Day only around the corner. I am not a romantic soul, but any excuse to wear a red lipstick and I am all over it, so keep reading to see what are my favourite red lipsticks are from my stash 🙂

Lime Crime Velvetine

First up is Lime Crime’s Velvetine. This is a bizarrely wonderful product. It is so opaque and creamy in texture. The colour is nearly over whelming when you first use it as it has so much colour pay off in lipgloss form, but once you get used to it it’s a fab product. It is a beautiful rich red with the blue undertone we want so our teeth look whiter:

Lime Crime Velvetine

The finish of it is in the name it definitely. It has a matte velvet look once it dries and once it dries it is not budging. It is on your lips to stay, so you can kiss all you want (bleh) :). I’ll admit, I bought this because of the hype around it and have to say I’m glad I did, it is a welcome product to my ever expanding make up collection.

My next red love is Mac’s Ririwoo.

Mac Ririwoo

This is basically Rubywoo in rose gold packaging for an extra 4 euro, but I just couldn’t resist, I am drawn to shiny things. Ririoo has a “retro matte” finish according to Mac. I construe this as being a matte lipstick but not so matte your lips crack from the dryness so it is easy to wear as it doesn’t have a complete matte finsh:

Mac RiriWoo

This is a very similar red to the Velvetine, rich and pigmented with a blue undertone that I think would be suitable for all skin tones. With this lipstick however, you have the choice of how deep you want the colour in accordance to how much you add, if you use a lip liner underneath and if you if you diffuse it with your finger or a brush for a lighter  day appropriate application. Mac really do make fab lipsticks and this is probably one of their most popular ones and with owning it I can see why.

Third up on my list is a red for the people who aren’t really a fan of the traditional bright red. This is Nars’ Joyous Red.

Nars

This is a hybrid of colours, which I know does not look very appealing in the tube, although it does have the lovely smooth black packaging to compensate :). This is an unusual lipstick, it is semi-matte with a satin/glossy finish. The colour reminds me of Autumn, it borders on brown and red which I think is a great option for a day time lip. Again can be worn full on:

Nars Joyous Red

Or muted down with a just s few dabs added and using your finger to work the colour into the lips. I think this is a lipstick that looks fab on pale skin and older ladies who still want to rock a bold lip with out going full on Marilyn with it. I wear this lippie quite alot to brighten up my makeup without having to put too much effort in and the formulation is beautiful, it fades away really nicely so is great for wearing to work. Not a traditional choice I know, but I thought not everyone likes bold red so why not mix it up a bit.

Next on the list is my very loved Revlon Lip Butter in Candy Apple. I was obsessed with these when they first came out and have quite a few.

Revlon Lip Butter

I love the packaging as much as I love the product inside (I am a sucker I know). These are like a lip gloss, lipstick and lip balm in one:

Revlon Lip Butter Candy Apple

They are so nourishing and easy to apply but are quite pigmented and long lasting to boot. Candy Apple is a lovely, youthful, vibrant glossy red that is not too over the top. I think this would be great for anyone really, particularly anyone who is scared of red lipstick but really wants to experiment. The lip butters in general and their colour range are a great place to start incorporating colour into your makeup routine as they are easy to maintain on the go, can be worn sheer or full on and are very mistake forgiving. I would recommend them to anyone.

Last on my voyage of reds is a bit of a special one, but I could not talk about my collection without adding this one in for good measure 🙂

Tom Ford

This was actually a Christmas pressie from the boyfriend along with the gorgeous eyeshadow quad mentioned here This is Tom Ford’s lip colour in “Cherry Lush”. The name say it all, this is a opaque, not too glossy cherry red colour but again with a slight blue undertone, that will lasts a long time and fades beautifully throughout the day (or night):

Tom Ford Cherry Lush

The packaging is so luxurious too. Black, gold and sleek that feels heavy in your hand. Can that justify paying 46Euro for a lipstick? Absolutely not. But will I do it again? Probably! I adore this lipstick, I love the colour, I think anyone could wear it and I think for a treat or present (hint hint Valentine’s Day present), this is a fab lipstick that really is pretty amazing. Well done Tom!

To maintain your lovely red pout, make sure to always give your lips a good ex foliate and add a slick of lip balm while doing the rest of your makeup. Line the lips with a similar colour of lipliner, this gets your lip line just right and you can even it out if it’s a bit wonky like mine, although I didn’t use one for the pics as I did not want to compromise the colours. Also do the blot, repeat step. Use a lip brush to fill in your lips with the lipstick, use one layer of a tissue, put it up yo your mouth and with a brush and some translucent powder blot lightly over the lips with the tissue on top, taking up the excess product. Then, apply another layer of lipstick out of the bullet and you’ll be good to go.

So there you have it, some red goodies to get you in the festive mood for this coming February the 14th whether you are celebrating with your other half, your friends or family, why not rock a red lip and get into the spirit of things. It is a Friday after all, I think Friday is worth celebrating even if Valentine’s Day isn’t 😛

Thanks for reading

Gemma
