The well known Maybelline Dream Satin Foundations have been reformulated this year. I picked up both the Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid and the Velvet to give a whirl.
The texture of the Velvet just doesn’t float my boat which is kind of ironic because this one is made more for my skin type as it has more of a matte finish. I feel it sits on the skin and leaves behind a tacky residue which I am not a fan of.
The Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid however, does float my boat š
As the name would suggest, this is the liquid version.
It has a pretty thin consistency , but it doesn’t run if you put it on the back of your hand or a brush…if that makes sense?. I’ve used kabuki brushes, duo fibre brushes and sponges to apply it and for me it applies well with all of them. It doesn’t seem to discriminate š
It feels light on the skin but it has a medium build-able coverage.
Here’s my skin before application.
And then here it is with maybe one and half pumps of the Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid foundation applied with a kabuki brush.
Here it is with the the rest of my makeup on and powdered into place.
The L’Oreal Dream Satin Liquid Foundation smells quite nice too, which is always a plus š I think calling it satin liquid is a good description for the finish it gives on the skin when blended in. It’s not matte, but yet it’s not shiny or dewy. For me, that’s the perfect finish.
On my oily skin (with powder) it lasts pretty well on me. My skin depends on powder, but I will say I don’t find myself reaching for the compact to get rid of the shiny nose too often throughout the day. By probably the 4th or 5th hour I will have to powder down, but I am excessively oily so I can live with that.
I haven’t experienced it oxidise on my skin at all since wearing it personally and the Ivory shade is a good colour match for my Mac NC20 skin.
Overall, I really like the reformulated Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid. I remember using the old one years back too and liking that also.
You can pick it up in store from Boots or from their website here. It will set you back ā¬11.99 for a 30ml bottle. Not the cheapest out there I know.
I am always on the lookout for brilliant budget beauty buys. (yes I love that all of the words begin with b, not gonna lie :)) Rather than do monthly faves, I think I might do posts like this so often for budget and non budget beauty. Let me know what you think?
First up in my budget beauty list is:
My very beloved Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Foundation.
I won’t bore you with the details. I waffle about this foundation all the time and have a full review here. This stuff just does it for me. I love the finish, the longevity, it wears really well on my oily skin and the coverage. It will set you back ā¬9.99 in Boots so at a smidgen under a tenner, not a bad price point at all.
Next up on budget friendly rambles are these Catrice Liquid Metal Eyeshadows.
I think Catrice have nine colours to choose from in the Liquid Metal range. I have three of them and they get alot of use from me.
090 Nougat it right
070 Gold leaf me
100 What do you see?
These little pots are really pigmented, go on without any fuss and when dampened pack even more punch. I love shadows like this because you can create a really cool eye look without any effort. Not sure of the exact price on the Liquid Metal Shadows but I know they cost less than 4 euro a piece.
Another Catrice fave in my budget beauty stash is their Liquid Camouflage concealer.
I go into more detail and demo this here. It’s such a fab purse friendly full coverage concealer that works well under the eyes and around the face. A must have in your makeup drawer in my opinion, and with it being ā¬3.99, I don’t feel guilty saying that š
These Penneys lashes need no introduction, they have taken on a life of their own in the beauty world it seems.
They are so handy to have around when you are looking to add a little something more to a look. They would be described as individual lashes, unlike other individual lashes they have three clusters on one band, which for me takes way less faffing about.
You can add just one of these to your outer lashes and be good to go. And the best part it? They cost ā¬1.50! You wouldn’t even get a coffee for that nowadays (in Dublin at least) and you get glue included for that price too. Score!
The Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof mascara is a rediscovery for me.
I got it a while back and loved it, even gave it a full review here. Then, I started having a thing with the Catrice Glam & Doll mascara (full review here) and I forgot about it for a while. I pulled it out the other week more to see if it was time to bin it or not and gave it one last whirl. I swear it’s an even better mascara now after drying out in the drawer for a couple of months! Might buy another one and just leave it in the dark for a while š I picked this up in Boots for ā¬11.99. Not the cheapest mascara in the world, but still a decent price I reckon, and they’re always doing offers on it.
I have been loving this Essence No Makeup Look Nail Polish in Powdery Nude so much of late.
If you just be couldn’t be bothered doing your nails, but want them to look decent, this is such a great little find. I put a base coat on, add two layers of this and I’m done.
It dries really quickly and has a cool powdery finish to it so adding a top coat would take away from that. And it lasts really well on the nails. I can get around four days out of it before it starts to move, that’s not bad at all. I picked this up in Penneys and it cost me less than ā¬3.
I have an oldie but a goodie next. The Sleek Face Form Contouring And Blush Palette.
I brought this to Oslo with me and it’s made me fall in love with it all over again. This is the light version of the palette and you get a contour shade, a highlighter and a blush, all for ā¬9.99.
Not a bad deal whatsoever. Sleek is such a great brand! The shades double up as eyeshadows as well which is great for travelling.
This Flormar Bronzing Powder is huge and this is one of the reasons what I love it. It will last you a life time.
It’s also a really nice soft bronzer though. It has a really faint glitter running through it, but it doesn’t translate too much when on the skin.
The fact it’s so big means you can use a huge brush to apply it so it’s quick, easy and great for bronzing up the body too. A firm budget beauty fave in my collection. You can actually buy Flormar online here from Simplyfoxy. It will set you back ā¬9.99.
My last favourite of the minute is Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover.
I am a waterproof mascara junkie, and this does a fab job of removing every scrap of it without irritating or dragging my eyes. It’s an oil in water solution, so you just have to give it a good shake before you use it to ensure the liquid is fully mixed. I apply it with a couple of cotton rounds, leave them on each eye for a couple of seconds and then wipe. It even remove Inglot Gel liner and doesn’t leave you with panda eyes the next morning. That’s impressive! At full price this will set you back ā¬5.99 from Boots, it’s always on special though so just keep a look out. I am a huge fan of the Botanics range, they do some brilliant skincare and haircare products, that are really reasonably priced.
There you have it, a run through of some of my budget beauty favourites of the moment. What’s your favourite purse friendly product? I’d love to know š
This is round two of my H&M Makeup Haul. The is the face products round š If you want to see the eye products I picked up, just click on the link here and you can see them up close and swatched. Again, I’ll link the UK H&M website here for all price listings as I bought these in Norway and was probably ripped off š Everything is pretty reasonable price wise .
First up in my H&M makeup haul part two is the Cover-Up Concealer.
Now, I wanted this in Ivory, but I couldn’t find one on the stand to save my life, so I got Vanilla, that’s a tad dark for my skin, but sure I’ll make it work. This would be an all over skin concealer, however I think I will chance it as an under eye one and see how it works.
It has a thin consistency and seems to blend really well into the skin. On first swatch it hasn’t a huge amount of coverage, but it definitely seems like it could be build-able.
I just blended it really softly here
Next up is their Immaculate Compact Foundation.
I chose this over one of their setting powders because I tend to like a bit of coverage with my face powders.
This is in the shade Ivory and I adore the packaging.
It comes with a mirror, the powder and than a sponge underneath.
The powder is really finely milled. There is a bit of a weird scent to it but nothing to crazy. After swatching it, the shade Ivory which I believe is the lightest shade they do may be slightly to dark for my natural (MacNC20) skin tone.
This is a bit annoying considering there are paler people than me out there.
I also got their Solar Flair Bronzing Powder. I had actually seen Lily Pebbles talk fondly of this so I knew it was something I wanted to try.
Again, I love the sleek packaging and it comes with a good sized mirror.
I got the shade ‘Sheer Tan’. I think this was the lightest bronzing shade they do. I really like that they do different colours. That is not a regular thing within a beauty brand.
I can detect a really really subtle sheen to the powder when swatched and like the powder foundation it is a really finely milled powder. I think I’m really going to like this š
The last thing I have to show is one of the H&M Pure Radiance Powder Blushers.
Again, I’ll address the packaging, it’s super pretty and these have a gold bottom which I really love.
I chose the shade ‘Sunrise Pink’. I thought this was the most wearable shade for me.
It’s a dusky pink with a fleck of gold sparkle running through it. When you apply it though, the shimmer doesn’t seem to translate too much.
Personally, I’m happy about this, but if you’re looking for the sparkle you might not be.
Overall, on first impressions, I am really pleased with my H&M makeup purchases. The packaging, the products themselves and the price points are really great. I look forward to actually applying these to my mug now and seeing how they fare š
January has been and gone, we are officially into 2015, where is the time going? The end of a month means monthly favourites in my world, and so I am here to divulge some of the things I have been loving and using throughout the month of January 2015.
I firstly have something I have already prattled on about here so I’ll keep it short.
You can read the full review if you want my full opinions on Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Nude Foundation, and to see it on the skin. This has been the only foundation I have pretty much used in the month of January though. It is cheap, has good medium coverage, long lasting…and I like it! That pretty much sums it up š
Up next I have one of my Christmas presents.
My Accurist rose gold and black leather watch. I have been wearing this nearly every day since I got it. I think it’s very classic but understated and seems to go with everything. It’s also light and comfortable. It is actually a man’s watch, but I like bigger watches so this appeals to me. I want one of these in every colour š
I am a big believer in washing your face thoroughly before bed with a cleanser or a face wash whatever you use. I wear waterproof mascara and liner alot and these can be a pain and a bit messy to take off with a cloth or you hands so I like to use an oil based makeup remover just on my eyes to make washing my face then a little easier.
This Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover was on sale in Boots. I think it was less than ā¬3, so picked it up to try. It does a really great job. I don’t even look when I am doing it. I just soak two cotton pads in it and gently rub my eyes with. It does the job really great. It’s also meant to condition your lashes which is a plus. If you are looking for an affordable paraben free range, give the Botanics in Boots a look.Ā I really like the face wash from this range too, I really recommend them.
I think I mentioned this in a favourites post gone by, but I am throwing it again because I have not been able to get enough of it this month.
This is the Yonka Invigorating Dry Skin Toner, which is an aerosol toner. Do you like the Caudalie Beauty Elixir? Well then you’ll love this. It smells sooooo nice and earthy and it is really calming and hydrating on the skin. It contains lovely things like Lavender and Thyme (hence the smell) .It’s pricey but I need to buy a full sized bottle of it!
I have a couple of duo items up next.
The first is the Soap & Glory Whipped Clean Shower Butter and then these funny little exfoliating mittens that I randomly picked up in good oul Penney’s. These two together for me are a match made in heaven. The wash is really emollient and moisturising on the skin and feels really luxurious. I’ve found using this with the exfoliating mittens really nice, as although I am getting rid of any dead skin cells with the abrasive gloves, the wash keeps the skin feeling nourished and looked after. The Whipped Cream smells of almonds which I am not a fan of, but I suck it up š
My next duo are for the lips.
This is Rimmel’s lip liner in Eastend Snob and on of the Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick Charms in Bitch Perfect. How pretty and tiny are these lipsticks? We both got the little trio of lippies for Christmas. Mine is mashed a bit, sorry. I did that after a few alcoholic beverages and didn’t twist the bullet back down properly.
I am not really a nude lip person very often. But just something about this duo made me feel comfortable. Perhaps because it’s more of a pinky nude, so I don’t feel completely washed out. I’m pale enough as it is š Eastend Snob is a great liner to have if you are looking to slightly over draw your lips or you just want to even out your lip line.
My last favourite for this month is the Fuchsia Pro Collection Palette.
I have been reaching for this so much of late. It’s great that an Irish brand are doing these pans that you can put into a zpalette and customise the colours to suit yourself. I had never really used the Fuchsia brand until we were kindly gifted these at a blogger Christmas Party. This one was prefilled, I did not choose the colours, but the colours in it are lovely. There is something for everything and everyone from cool tones to warm, neutrals to brights and shimmery to matte. The colour pay off is really nice and they blend well too. They also come in an array of colours and finishes. I will be investing in more for sure.
There you have it. January summed up in beauty products. That’s what we are here for, right?
Over the past couple of weeks I have picked up a few affordable makeup bits in between Christmas shopping for friends and family. I got some really nice goodies so I thought I would share them with you in case you need some shopping inspiration š
First up I went to Boots, one of my favourite places to be. The waft of perfume as you walk through the door just puts me in a good mood.
I picked up Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Nude foundation.
This is a new version of their normal Lasting Finish which is a firm fave here at Chatterbox. This is a lighter version of it. It has a good medium coverage and an SPF of 20 which is great for an everyday foundation.
So far I have been loving this, it’s not cakey, the 100 Ivory shade is a good match for my pale skin and it has been lasting really well on my also oily skin. So far a good buy. This set me back ā¬8.99 in Boots
I got one of Maybelline’s new Color Tattoo Leather Effect Cream shadows to give a go next.
This is in the colour “Vintage Plum 97”.
I have so many of the Color Tattoos and love most of them. This one is nice, I really like the colour, it makes a great base for plum, brown or purple eye looks. It is matte with no shimmer in it at all. I cannot say it really looks like leather though.
The Color Tattoos are ā¬7.49 in Boots.
Another cream shadow creeped its way into my Boots basket…ooops š
This is the Max Factor Excess Shimmer in “25 Bronze”. I am in love with this, let me tell you that from the getgo.
Oh my god the pigment is amazing, a tiny bit of this goes such a long way. The texture is so cool, it’s soft and nearly whipped to the touch unlike the Color Tattoos. It is so easy to blend also.
I can wear this just on its own without a shadow on top. I love the colour too, it’s bronze but with a coppery feel, right up my street.Ā These cost ā¬9.99 from Boots
Last thing I picked up in Boots was the Maybelline Instant Anti-Age, The Eraser Eye in “Nude”.
This is a sponge applicator under eye concealer for cancelling out under eye circles.
I’m on the fence about this product so far, I think I need to keep using it before I give a true opinion. It costs ā¬11.99
Soooo, then I did some damage over on Cloud 10 Beauty They had 20% off their whole site for black Friday, I could not resist!! I firstly picked up the cult product that is The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer.
So many of you told me I needed this over on social media, so thanks š It is such a pretty gold toned highlighter. It is ridiculously shimmery but there is not lumpy sparkle in it which I think is what makes it so pretty and wearable.
You don’t have to look like a disco ball to get a highlighted effect. You can pick this up from Cloud 10 for ā¬19.00
This is the E30 eyebrow brush. I wanted an angled eyebrow brush with a spooly on the end and this fit the bill, also the ends are purple how cute š This cost me ā¬6.95
I got one of the Sleek Eye and Cheek Palette in “See You At Midnight 028”.
I have only gotten my hands on this today so I have yet to try it out properly, but on first look and swatch I really like it.
It is very winter appropriate. Plums, purple, cranberry and gold galore. There is two blush shades “Antique” in the top left corner and “Pomegranate” in the bottom right and then 4 eyeshadows from The Vintage Romance iDivine palette. Can’t wait to get stuck into it š I think this is the best deal out of everything at ā¬12.95
I got another Sleek product from Cloud 10 Beauty.
Another Eau La La Liner to add to my collection. This is the shade “Cocoa 327”. Nothing much to say about it, it’s a matte chocolate brown eyeliner.
I love these liners, I have them in so many colours, but not in dark brown so I picked one up. This will set you back ā¬5.99
I also got a couple of other random things so I thought I would throw them into the list too for good measure.
I got this when IĀ was buying the other bits on Cloud 10.
This is the Daniel Galvin Junior Hangover Hair. My hair needs a bit of TLC and this was cheap and organic so I thought I would give it a go, no real thought process there. I will report back if it is any good. It is ā¬4.49
Lastly, these are definitely not beauty based, but they are beautiful š
These are New Look heels that I ordered from Asos when they were having 20% off for black Friday. I just thought they were so festive and sparkly and also the heel is thick and respectable not a look I go for very often š Full price, these are ā¬39.99, so not bad at all, I am sure I will get alot of use out of them over the festive season.
I think that’s it, if you have made it to the end of this let me know, I know it’s a rambly one š Did you get any amazing bargains in the sales yet?
