This is a tag that has been going around the beauty Youtube community the last few weeks. I have really been enjoying watching all the videos from big and little youtubers (like myself). So, I thought I would chance my arm and film How I Did My Makeup In School 🙂

how i did my makep in school

In my how i did my makeup in school video, you will learn nothing at all believe me. But it is makeup related, so I figured it was ok 🙂 I actually couldn’t believe how much I remembered about doing my makeup when I was 17 and 18 because I’m not going to lie it was a good while ago now.

Some of the products I used where ones that I did in fact use back in the early noughties.

But I did replace some of them with newer versions that still gave the same effect. Can you believe at one stage of my life, I probably owned only 8 makeup products? It doesn’t even bare thinking about 🙂

I even threw in how I did my hair and my outfit of choice (kinda) for good measure 🙂

If you want to see me actually do my makeup half decent, here’s my latest look. This is a little more put together and appropriate of the time!

I actually really enjoyed just chatting to the camera for this video, so much so I had to edit alot of it out!

If you want a laugh, you can just click on my how I did my makeup in school video above, or you can click the link here and head on over to my Youtube channel. And if you are a Youtube video junkie like myself I would love if you subscribed too. I am trying to make a video a week along with my blog posts 🙂

So tell me, what were your go to products back in the day?

The well known Maybelline Dream Satin Foundations have been reformulated this year. I picked up both the Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid and the Velvet to give a whirl.

The texture of the Velvet just doesn’t float my boat which is kind of ironic because this one is made more for my skin type as it has more of a matte finish. I feel it sits on the skin and leaves behind a tacky residue which I am not a fan of.

The Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid however, does float my boat 🙂

As the name would suggest, this is the liquid version.

It has a pretty thin consistency , but it doesn’t run if you put it on the back of your hand or a brush…if that makes sense?. I’ve used kabuki brushes, duo fibre brushes and sponges to apply it and for me it applies well with all of them. It doesn’t seem to discriminate 🙂

It feels light on the skin but it has a medium build-able coverage.

Here’s my skin before application.

And then here it is with maybe one and half pumps of the Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid foundation applied with a kabuki brush.

The L’Oreal Dream Satin Liquid Foundation smells quite nice too, which is always a plus 🙂 I think calling it satin liquid is a good description for the finish it gives on the skin when blended in. It’s not matte, but yet it’s not shiny or dewy. For me, that’s the perfect finish.

On my oily skin (with powder) it lasts pretty well on me. My skin depends on powder, but I will say I don’t find myself reaching for the compact to get rid of the shiny nose too often throughout the day. By probably the 4th or 5th hour I will have to powder down, but I am excessively oily so I can live with that.

I haven’t experienced it oxidise on my skin at all since wearing it personally and the Ivory shade is a good colour match for my Mac NC20 skin.

Overall, I really like the reformulated Maybelline Dream Satin Liquid. I remember using the old one years back too and liking that also.

You can pick it up in store from Boots or from their website here. It will set you back €11.99 for a 30ml bottle. Not the cheapest out there I know.

Let me know what you think. Have you tried it?

I bought a couple of lipliners from the Longlasting Lipliner range from Essence randomly when I was in Lanzarote. And I liked them so much and they are so cheap (I think they cost €1.80) I had to pick up another couple when I got back. Essence have more colour choices in these. I just have four of them here to show you today. I reckon I’ll end up with all of them at some point though 🙂

They are mechanical lipliners in plastic very durable packaging (especially considering how much they cost).

The pencil itself is soft, pigmented and applies really smoothly. I would say they wear well, but they do wear. You’ll be left with a stain to your lips after eating and drinking rather than full on colour. Of course, if you use them under lipstick or lipgloss they will definitely help the longevity of them.

The four colours I have (so far) are:

06 ‘A Girl’s Dream’

To me this is a dark pink with a red undertone.

The colour range of these Essence Longlasting Lipliners are really great too. Very logical shades that work for everyday use on their own and also to use under other lip products you already may have. You can see all the shade choices on the Essence website here

Essence Cosmetics are available nationwide. I got the Longlasting Lipliners in Penneys, but there are so many independent pharmacies all over Ireland now stocking the brand which is brilliant. They are really doing a good job of making great makeup with lots of products to choose from and for an amazing price point. I reviewed so many Essence products in 2015 and they come out with new lines all the time so I am sure I will be reviewing lots more in 2016.

Let me know what you think?

And thanks for reading, as always 🙂
