The Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadows are a tongue twister first of all. I swear I keep having to check the name on the box to make sure I am writing it correctly!

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow

Second of all, the Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadows are something I have been really excited about launching here for a long time. There are so many releases in the makeup world that if you are immersed in it, you can tend to take them for granted a little.

Stila Magnificent Metals

After seeing a lot of the big American YouTubers playing with these though, I was in awe of just how pretty they were!

I own two of the Stila Magnificent Metals cream shadows now. I thought that was enough to give you a somewhat rounded view on them as they aren’t cheap ๐Ÿ™‚ The Magnificent Metals started out in the Stila family as as actual eyeshadow that you activate with a solution to get a foiled effect.

The next generation of these are what we have here. They are basically a shimmery cream eyeshadow laced with glitter. There are eight shades in the collection for sale right now to us. I know there are more coming though. The two shades I own I’ll admit are quite similar, but I wanted to get colours I would actually wear.

Stil glitter and glow

The first one I bought is probably the most wanted shade, ‘Kitten Karma’.

‘Kitten’ is Stila’s most sold eyeshadow shade, so it made sense to make it into a Magnificent Metal cream shadow too. I would deem this as a taupe golden shade with golden sparkle.

My most recent purchase from the range was ‘Rose Gold Retro’.

As the name would suggest, this is rose gold cream eyeshadow laced with golden glitter.

For me (and I only own two of them) there is definitely formula differences. From reading reviews online, this isn’t old news either. Out of the two I own, ‘Kitten Karma’ applies better and the glitter within the cream eyeshadow adheres to the eyelid more. There is definitely more sparkle within it too ‘Rose Gold Retro’ tends to have more fall out of glitter after the shadow sets, although the cream shadow itself is thicker and more pigmented. They do both set on the lids and are smooth to the touch on application. There’s no grit and they wear really well. I find them easy too apply and spread out on the lid aswell. I tend to take the product from the wand onto my finger and pat them onto the lid. That seems to be the best way they work for me.

Overall, the Stila Magnificent Metal Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadows are really pretty. It’s an easier way to add a pop of glitter to a look without having to work with loose pigments or glitter. There is inconsistencies in the formulas though and some colours are definitely better then others.

‘Kitten Karma’ seems to be hardest shade to come by. I got it directly from the Stila UK website here. ‘Rose Gold Retro’, I bought online here from Beauty Bay, which worked out cheaper as they do free shipping.

What are your thoughts on them? Have you picked up any?

It’s that time of the week. Time for a new video from yours truly ๐Ÿ™‚ This one is about my top five ride or die makeup products. As you probably would have guessed from the title ๐Ÿ™‚

ride or die makeup products

Look I even made a picture with writing on it! That’s when you know I mean business ๐Ÿ™‚ For a minute in this video, I nearly thought I came up with this concept. What a twat I am. It took my brain a minute to catch up but then I remembered it was the lovely Jaclyn Hill who created the ride or die makeup tag, duh!

And me looking all smug and the likes.

Anyways onto the products!

  1. The Mac Cosmetics Full Coverage Foundation in NC20. I usually get mine from Brown Thomas in store. After looking on the Brown Thomas website I can’t seem to find it! Hopefully they’ve just changed the name and the packaging to Prolongwear, which is on the website here. I hope and pray it’s not discontinued because I’m running low ๐Ÿ™
  2. Number two is the L’Oreal Infallible 24 Hr Matte Foundation. I won’t go into too much detail about this because I have a full blogpost on it here.
  3. My third choices were two I know, I’m a cheater and a half! The Fairydrops Scandal Queen Waterproof Mascara. I have a full review here. And, the Catrice Glam & Doll Waterproof mascara, Also, full blogpost here. I just realised they changed the name of this since I got my first tube!
  4. My fourth choice the Bourjois Rouge Velvet Edition in the shade ‘Ping Pong’. You can pick these up from Boots instore and online here, or from Cloud10beauty here.
  5. Then finally my last ride or die makeup product was goat hair blending brushes. The ones I mention are the Debs from Nima, you can buy it here, the Blank Canvas E26 available here and the old school Mac 217 which you can pick up here.

Yep, every time I find a new mascara that I like, it becomes my favourite, I know, I know. But honestly, the Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara is my new favourite ๐Ÿ™‚

Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara

I have seen this spoken about so much online, but never really thought much about getting my mitts on it with it being an elusive Asian brand. A couple of weeks back, I did a post here on my favourite places to beauty shop online. I was going through the index on Cult Beauty and low and behold I see it for sale.

Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara

The Fairydrops Scandal Queen mascara went into my basket, no hesitation whatsoever. I was in need of a new mascara (says the beauty blogger), so that was justification enough for me ๐Ÿ™‚ It is one of the best selling mascaras in Japan and was actually created by a Japanese ‘television personality’.

First off the packaging is super pretty. Anything metallic rose gold and I’m pretty much sold anyways.

Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara

This is the waterproof version, but the Fairydrops Scandal Queen comes in a non waterproof version too here.

The Cult Beauty synopsis of it is: ‘How much do we *heart* Fairydrops Scandal Queen Waterproof Mascara? Let us list the waysโ€ฆ Its wibbly-looking wand is โ€˜oooohโ€™ inducing, and guarantees that not a single lash escapes its curling, coating and conditioning clutches. The unique shape lifts and separates whilst fattening and lengthening each eyelash thanks to little (non-irritating) fibres. The smudge-, budge- and water-resistant formula is enriched with five different treatment essences โ€“ squalene, jojoba seed oil, panthenol, hydrolysed collagen and moisturising hyaluronic acid โ€“ to counteract brittleness and leave lashes looking lustrous. Aaaaaand innovative film-forming polymers have a long-lasting โ€˜permingโ€™ effect, to โ€˜open upโ€™ eyes and create an enviable set of full on, fluttering fringes (without the faff of falsies). Oh, and the rose gold tube is utterly covetable. Need we say more?’

That’s alot of waffle I know, but it gives a more specific explanation of the mascara so I wanted to add it in ๐Ÿ™‚

It has a soft bristled wand that has three spheres, not the best explanation but sure we’ll go with it. It’s more of a you have to see it spooley.

cult beauty fairydrops mascara

The unusual shape does take a bit of getting used to, but once you do you can use the spheres (we’re calling them spheres for the purpose of this blogpost, k?) to your advantage.

The one on the tip of the spooley is great for getting in at the small inner lashes and for flaring out the outer lashes too.

The formula, in my humble opinion is pretty bloody awesome. It layers really well without completely clumping up, holds a curl, adds fibrous length and doesn’t budge! It doesn’t crumble or make your lashes feel hard either!

So, here is the Fairydrops Scandal Queen mascara in action on my slightly curled eyelashes:

Before.

Applied to top lashes on one eye.

It’s brilliant for the bottom lashes too and because the wand is really light, it’s not too difficult to coat all of the baby hairs that live down there ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s clear to see I am a fan I know. Sorry for all of the gushing, but I love it ha!

The Fairydrops Scandal Queen Mascara in waterproof is available from Cult Beauty here and costs ยฃ18.50.

Anastasia

IMG_3422

When the Anastasia Beverley Hills Contour Kit became available on Cult Beauty I forked out the 45 pound (not euro pound!) no questions asked. There was so much online hype surrounding it and if I’m honest I put myself on the waiting list in hopes of being one of the first in Ireland to get my hands on it.

I waited patiently and when it arrived, I did a little dance, no word of a lie. I opened it and thought…oh ok so this is what it looks like in the flesh…hmm. I wasn’t hugely impressed with the cardboard packaging. But then the Lorac Pro Palette comes in a similar black matte cardboard affair and I love it, so I won’t judge a book by it’s cover.

So let me show you what you get:

Contour Kit

Top: Vanilla, Banana, Sand Bottom: Java, Fawn, Havana

So the top layer of colours would be the highlight shades. Vanilla is matte and slightly pink in colour. On my skin you can’t see it at all (I am quite pale and have pink toned skin), it could just be a setting powder for me. Banana would be what the name suggests. A matte yellow toned powder, that would be used for highlighting or setting under the eyes. Sand it a pink toned highlighter shade with a sheen running through it.

Then on the bottom we have what would be the contour shades. Java is a coffee coloured brown shade again as the name would suggest. I think this would work best on darker skin tones for contouring and bronzing. Fawn is more of a grey toned brown, in my opinion better on lighter skin tones for contouring. And then finally we have Havana a chocolate brown shade. Would be best used as bronzer I think.

As you can see from the picture above, these powders are refillable so when you are finished a pan you can buy them individually and pop them back into the palette which is cool. Anastasia have actually brought out a huge version of this palette for makeup artists with loads of shades to choose from. It would be great if you could mix n’ match the perfect shades for you.

Here are the shades swatched for you:

Contour Kit Swatches

Vanilla, Banana, Sand, Java, Fawn, Havana

As you can see Vanilla doesn’t come out on my light skin at all, apologies for you not being able to see it, it’s there I promise ๐Ÿ™‚

So….what do I think of the palette? Honestly, I think it’s ok. I don’t know whether I am too light skinned for the colours, but most of them of them don’t suit me. They don’t seem to stay on my oily skin too well throughout the day either. They aren’t the most blendable powders I have ever come across either. They are pigmented though! Every day when I’m getting ready, my Kevyn Aucoin sculpting powder makes it into my hands before I grab for this. I am in love with that product and a little of it goes such a long way, thank goodness because the product and packaging is teeny weeny ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll dip in and out of using the Anastasia Contour Kit and get use out of it but it definitely will not be on my list to repurchase. I love my eyebrow products that I have used from this brand (the Dipbrow and the Brow Wiz) and I would highly recommend them so I am not condemning the brand whatsoever. This palette as much as I wanted it doesn’t really float my boat.

It’s so brilliant that brands are bringing out these types of products. Contouring, when done right really is amazing. I think next on the list has to be Inglot’s version ๐Ÿ™‚

So there you have it. Let me know if you have any thoughts on it or have used the Anastasia Beverley Hills Contour Kit yourself. As usual, these are just opinions, yours might be completely different and that’s perfectly fine!

Thanks for taking the time to read mine though ๐Ÿ™‚

Gemma
