I did a post similar to this last here year for my first Christmas in Beautynook world. It’s a festive red lip for under a fiver. I still love and use both of products I used, these are just alternatives for your 2016 Festive Red Lipstick look 🙂

festive red lipstick

I think a decent lip liner is as important as the lipstick you choose when rocking a red lip. You can by all means go for a more soft approach and that’s beautiful too. But, when you’re going full out bright and Christmas-sy red, I think a crisp lip line is important. And you don’t want any bleeding, I mean lipstick bleeding but of course we don’t want any bleeding at all 🙂

For this year’s festive red lipstick lip liner, I went with the Rimmel Exaggerate in ‘Red Diva’.

I am a big fan of the Rimmel Exaggerate lip liners. They are super soft and easy to apply. And they now have an angled twist up nib which I find really handy for outlining and correcting my lip line. ‘Red Diva’ is the perfect classic red colour and actually works really nicely on it’s own as well.

This costs €5.49 and you can get it from the Boots website here.

The lipstick I chose is a new release for 2016. It’s one of the new Lip VIP’s from Sleek Makeup. It is called ‘Walk Of Fame’.

These are a semi matte formula lipstick. They are really creamy, pigmented and very comfortable to wear.

I just think both of these products together are a really lovely and affordable festive red lipstick combination. The Sleek Lip Vip’s are available from Boots too for €7.49 here.

Matte lips are everywhere at the minute so I thought I would go old school with more of a creamy textured combo. Layering the products means they are still long lasting but they won’t dry out your lips as much.

It is such a cliché I know, but I just love a red lip during Christmas time 🙂

The L’Orèal Color Riche Gold Obsession Lipsticks were something I was very excited to have come through my door.

Loreal color riche gold obsession lipstick

I am in love with the packaging first off. It is matte black with a gold gradient at the base of the tube. Very swish 🙂

There are five colours in the L’Orèal Color Riche Gold Obsession range. L’Orèal say: ‘As well as its intense colour pigment, each Color Riche lipstick shade is enriched with a combination of Omega-3 oils and Vitamin E which helps to protect your lips from drying. In 5 iconic shades to suit every skin tone; Nude Gold, Rose Gold, Rouge Gold, Plum Gold, as well as a statement Pure Gold shade.’ The gold shade can be used on it’s own or as a topper for other lipsticks.

I have three of the five to show.

First up we have ‘Nude Gold’. A brown nude colour.

The second one is ‘Pink Gold’. A light pink shade.

And the last one I have in my possession is my personal favourite out of the three. ‘Plum Gold’. A deep, purple toned plum.

All three lipsticks are laced with a somewhat subtle gold sparkle. This is meant to give the lips a more metallic look, which is very on trend at the moment. The lipstick doesn’t feel gritty at all though. The formula is rich and creamy and gives a glossy, but not sticky finish to the lips. It has a balmy feel. As it is more glossy, you won’t have much colour left behind after eating or drinking. The scent reminds me of my cabbage patch doll from back in the day, (which I am perfectly ok with 🙂 ). It is sweet, but not too sickly in my humble opinion. I actually wore ‘Plum Gold’ in a recent video of mine here if you want to check it out in actual action 🙂

I don’t think the L’Orèal Color Riche Gold Obsession Lipsticks would be necessarily for everyone. The colour range is pretty limited and they do have a sparkly finish.

For me, ‘Plum Gold’ is a definite winner. I think out of the three colours I have, that is the one I will actually pick up and wear. I really like the colour as well as the finish. The other two shades just don’t suit my complexion.

You can get the L’Oréal Color Riche Gold Obsession Lipsticks now in store or online here from Boots. They are priced at €9.99. However, Feel Unique have them online here too and they are charging €8.95, just an FYI 🙂

So what do you think? Would you rock any of the shades?

I am a big fan of the original The Only 1 lippies. They have a creamy but pigmented formula with a shiny finish. I have a full review of them here. Now, we have have a newer verion in the form of the Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick!

Rimmel the only 1 matte lipstick

These come in a red matte bullet in the same shape as the original with the colour of the lipstick in a band at the base.

The Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick has a similar distinct fragrance to its predecessor. Be aware, it is potent!

rimmel the only 1 matte lipstick

The bullet is diagonally shaped, which I really like. Here in Ireland we can get our mitts on 9 shades of these lippies. The colour choices are nothing new. They range from nude, pink, red to deeper reds. Of course, as you can guess from the name, these lipsticks are of the matte variety. I have a few to show you in action here so you can see them up close and applied to the lips.

200 is a light pink matte nude.

I am a big fan of the formula of these. Just like the original, they are pigmented, creamy and easy to apply.

Even though they have a matte finish, they don’t feel drying or pull on the lips. Because they are more creamy though, they will move around when you eat or drink. But, you are left behind with a stain. If you aren’t a fan of the liquid lipstick trend because of the dryness but still want a matte finish to the lips. These could be of interest to you 🙂

The Rimmel The Only 1 Matte Lipstick (s) retail for €8.99. You can get them instore or online from Boots here. Boots are running an offer at the moment with Rimmel. The products are two for €12 across the range!

I managed to nab a Becca Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette. Phew, that’s a mouthful, right? 🙂

Becca Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette
I went in to Space NK Grafton Street just to have a look and ask about them as they had had a shipment the week before. Low and behold the lovely ladies told me they were getting another shipment in the next day and I could put my name down if I was certain I could be in to collect in that very day. And so, I did just that 🙂

Completely spur of the moment really, the Becca Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette became mine.

Becca Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette

If you don’t know already, Jaclyn Hill is a very successful American beauty You-tuber. She had previously collaborated with Becca Cosmetics and that was when Champagne Pop was born. (I have a full review of it here). The collection has now grown and includes: Champagne Splits which are a blush and highlighter combo. Liquid and cream Champagne Pop shimmering skin perfectors. There was also an eye-shadow palette that Becca controversially had to take off of the market because of quality issues and of course finally what I am showing you now, the Becca Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette.

Becca Cosmetics

I really love the gold and white packaging of the palette. It is smooth to the touch, is a little weighty so feels nice in your hands and contains a large mirror in the lid, which is always appreciated.

It contains 5 powders in total. 3 blushes and 2 shimmering skin perfectors i.e highlighters.

Becca Cosmetics Ireland

We have Rosè Spritz which is deemed a luminous blush.

Amaretto – A mineral blush.

Pamplemousse – This is also a mineral blush.

Then we have the highlighter that started it all Champagne Pop.

And then finally, Prosecco Pop.

Here are all the powders swatched together just so you can get a sense of the colour differences and finishes.

Without the flash on

All of the powders are as you would expect from Becca super soft and pigmented. They swatched really nicely onto the skin. The blushes are a good mix of colours and finishes.  I use Champagne Pop alot already even though I think it might be a little too deep for my skin tone, I don’t care, I love it 🙂 I am foreseeing I might have the same problem with Prosecco Pop, it is very golden. But, it’s very pretty so I’ll make it work 🙂 I think it will make for a lovely eye shadow too.

The Becca Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Face Palette retails in Ireland for €54 from Space NK if you can get your hands on it. They do have it on the UK website here though if you want to get it shipped and it costs £48.

So, let me know what you think? 🙂

I picked up the MUA Luxe Strobe & Glow Highlight Kits after they scrolled themselves into my life on the MUA Instagram page. Social media completely enabled me and I’m ok with it 🙂

MUA Luxe Strobe & Glow Highlight KiMUA say on the Superdrug website, ‘A multi-formula compact, ideal for effortless highlighting. The cream and powder formulas in a light, luminescent shimmer allow for a perfect strobe & glow, iridescent look.’

irish beauty blogThe packaging alone sold me on these as well as me being on a mission to find awesome more affordable highlighters. It contains two compartments to house a cream highlight on the bottom and the powder highlight on top, along with a mirror in the lid, which is always handy.

There is two MUA Strobe & Glow Highlight Kits to choose from.

mua irelandbudget highlighter

This one is ‘Pearl Glow’, and is more of a gold highlight.

top irish beauty bloggerbeauty blog irelandirish beauty bloggerThis is marketed to lighter skin tones.

Then, there’s ‘Pink Luster’, which is of course more pink in colour.

beauty vlogger irelandirish beauty vlogtop irish beauty blog

Here is both of the cream highlighters swatched side by side.

top beauty blog

Pearl Gold                                           Pink Luster

The two of them have a really different formula. The ‘Pearl Gold’ is nearly wet in texture and has a light consistency, with lots of shimmer going through it. ‘Pink Luster’ is more mousse like to the touch with a more opaque colour finish to the skin and has more of a shine to it than a shimmer.

Here are the powders on their own swatched side by side.

top beauty blogger

Pearl Gold                                               Pink Luster

The powders are nearly opposite to the creams in their compacts. ‘Pearl Gold is more of a matte powder with gold reflects running through it, whereas ‘Pink Luster’ has more of a shiny, frosty finish on the skin.

Then, here are the MUA Luxe Strobe & Glow Highlight Kits used together so the corresponding creams with the powders over top.

irish beauty blog

Pearl Gold                                        Pink Luster

Used together, they are both very shimmery, frosty and not the easiest to blend on the skin. The finish of either of the creams, doesn’t lend itself to much to layering, in my opinion really either.

Overall, I think the MUA Luxe Strobe & Glow Highlight Kits look really swish and are affordable. But if someone asked me for a ‘drugstore’ highlighter recommendation, I would offer the Sleek Solstice Palette (full post about it here) over these in a heartbeat.

I picked up the MUA Luxe Strobe & Highlighting Kits from Superdrug online here and got them delivered to my nearest store in Tallaght. They cost £5, but they do have them on the MUA stand in store too for €7.50 each.

First off, doesn’t the name L’Oreal Infallible Mega Gloss Matte just confuse the bejesus out of you? It’s clever though because it made me buy a couple of them when I was browsing Boots a couple of weeks ago 🙂

L'Oreal Infallible Mega Gloss Matte

The L’Oreal Infallible Mega Gloss Matte do come in shiny gloss form too, so maybe that’s why they kept the name. They come in the same packaging as the ‘matte’ version, just in a whole host of other colours. There wasn’t as many colour choices for the mattes, so I only picked up two of the shades that I thought I would actually get use out of and wear.

irish makeup and beauty blog

The texture of the L’Oreal Infallible Mega Gloss Matte, to me is neither a gloss or a matte. I think they have a satin finish. You can however blot off the shiny layer if you choose and are left with a more matte appearance. This kind of gives us the best of both worlds. They are really pigmented and have the familiar sweet smell that alot of the L’Oreal lippies have. They have a sponge applicator that is curved in the middle and tapered at the tip, which is surprisingly handy for application. It kind of sits on your lip and you can let the applicator do the work.

top irish beauty blog

The first shade I picked up is 405 ‘The Bigger The Better’.

top irish beauty bloggertop irish beauty blogIt’s a bright pink shade. Here it is swatched applied normally to the lips.

The second shade I got is 407 ‘Smoke Me Up’.

Overall, I am digging the L’Oreal Infallible Mega Gloss Matte. As they are more of a creamy finish, they do move around. You will have transfer and you will have to reapply after eating or drinking if you want to keep the full effects of the colour. However, after wear they do leave behind a lovely coloured stain on the lips, so you’re not left without pigment completely. They feel soft and comfortable on the lips and not at all sticky.

You can pick them up in store in Boots or online here. It’s a bit annoying on the Boots website, because it seems they have the gloss and mattes in the one grouping, so make sure you know what shade you want before purchasing online. They will set you back €7.79 and are on 3 for 2 at the minute.

Be sure to let me know what you think 🙂
