Urban Decay Optical Illusion Complexion PrimerI’ve heard and read a lot of mixed reviews about the Urban Decay Optical Illusion Complexion Primer. I swatched it a while back at an Urban Decay masterclass. And from then, I was super intrigued, so I took the hit and picked it up from Debenhams.

Urban Decay Optical Illusion Complexion Primer

First up, I really like the packaging of these UD primers (they come in different finishes). I always appreciate a pump when I’m spending a few bob on a product. I like that you can see how much product is in the bottle too. You get 28 mls for on average €29. So you’re getting a ml of product per euro. It contains rosehip and argan oil.Urban Decay Primer

So what does the Urban Decay Optical Illusion Complexion Primer claim to do? Well pretty much that. They say it blurs pores and fine lines. As well giving a velvet like texture to the skin to help foundation go on smoother. It gives the skin a bit of a pink tint. UD say this helps illuminate the skin. I think if you’re my skin tone or lighter that might be the case. But, if you’re darker, it could give a white cast to the skin, that might not be so flattering.irish beauty blog

I really like this primer, it works really well for me. I do tend to use it only in my t-zone though. It’s thick in consistency and takes a bit of working in to the skin. I press it into my skin with the tips of my fingers.top irish beauty blogtop irish beauty blogger

The big no no that people say about it is that it balls up as you apply. That definitely can happen with a silicone heavy product like this if you use too much, or use it over a thicker moisturiser. They’re two things I tend to avoid on a daily basis so for the most part it blends out smoothly on my skin. It definitely glides over my enlarged pores and helps fill in my more prominent forehead lines. It gives a smooth base and foundation blends well over top. I find it does help with longevity too. I do always set my makeup with powder as well though.

It reminds me of a thicker Benefit Porefessional, with a drier finish on the skin. I find that as it is thicker, it goes further than Porefessional.

I can whole heartedly say I am happy enough that I spent the €29 on the Urban Decay Optical Illusion Complexion Primer. It ticks all the primer boxes for me. My skin likes silicone heavy primers and this is definitely that with a more velvet finish. Have you tried it?

Yep, It’s June Favourites 2017 time 🙂

june favourites

June is my birthday month so I always think it’s extra exciting for monthly favourites, because I usually have more stuff to ramble about.

This year’s June favourites really consist of a mixture of everything really.

  • My first faves were something I bought out of my birthday money.

I am totally not cool enough for these babies, but sure I am going to wear the hell out of them anyways 🙂 These are The Quay Australia X Desi Hi Key Black Fades. I bought them on Asos here. YouTube totally made me do it and I am completely OK with that :).

  • The really inexpensive eBay half lashes that I talk about can be found here, if you want a closer look at them. Definitely not great quality, but they do the job!
  • The band tees are a mixture from Primark and H&M. They are pretty much everywhere at the minute though. I am very much jumping on the bandwagon. It’s a comfortable wagon though so I feel no shame about it 🙂
  • I speak more about the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge and link to it here.
  • Benefit’s Hoola Bronzer is swatched and linked in a blogpost here.
  • I chat about my new favourite AMC gel liner from Inglot. I did a blogpost on my latest Inglot haul here. You can see the liner swatched and where to get it over there.
  • And then, my final pick for my June Favourites was The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution. This has such a long scary name, I know! You can read more about it on the Deciem website here.

I obviously ramble a lot more about these in the video here. I just like to do a blog post to accompany it with links, and to add in anything I may have forgotten.

Let me know what you think and if you have any June favourites yourself.

Thanks for clicking.

botanics all bright

Ok I know I know The Botanics Radiance Balm is all over the blogosphere at the minute, but there is a reason for it…it’s bloomin’ good! And I own the coveted Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow!!

It says it “softens, brightens for instant radiant skin for all skin types”. It contains hibiscus which is meant to be a natural brightness booster. It also meant to have natural ahas that are supposed to act as a mild exfoliant.

I use it personally as a moisturiser as I have oily skin, but they say to use it in conjunction with one, so that’s up to you. So what is the Botanics Radiance Balm? Well it’s a really light cream (or balm) that has a slight sparkle to it. It looks pink in the tube but applies translucent and when massaged in it gives you a subtle highlight effect.

You apply it to help brighten up your complexion which we all know can look a bit worse for wear especially early in the morning. You can of course add more where you want more of a glow. For me, I just add a pea sized amount to my finger tips and apply a light layer all over. I give it a couple of minutes to sink in and then apply my makeup as normal. I don’t find it interferes with my makeup at all which is a big deal for me.

It smells really nice and also has SPF 15 too!

I have used the face wipes, face wash and eye makeup remover from All Bright range and I really like them all. Botanics are doing a good job in my book for a very very competitive price. The Botanics Radiance Balm can be picked up in or on Boots.ie and is always on sale or on 3 for 2 so keep an eye out. At the minute it will set you back €3.99, bargain!

Get it and see for yourself 🙂
