This post on the new theBalm Balm Jour Creamy Lip Stain (s) is ridiculously overdue. I’ve been threatening to do this for like two weeks now. I even gave away the whole collection over on my Instagram last week. The PR were super cool and sent over two sets, how deadly of them π
I have been using these pretty much every day since I’ve had them in my possession. They’re just a really easy lip product to throw on. The colours are really wearable, the formula is pigmented and easy to apply, as you’ll see in the video here or above.
Are the eight shades available in the new theBalm Balm Jour Creamy Lip Stain collection ground breaking? Absolutely not, but they did a really good job at covering all bases I think, so there’s a shade in here for everyone.Β
It’s good to note too, that the formula isn’t sticky either. Also, you get the best of both worlds with them. Gloss and high impact colour that leaves a hint of a stain behind when the shine wears off. I’m a big fan overall, as you can probably tell. If you’re a fan of their Meet Matt(e) Hughes Liquid Lipsticks, but are over the dryness of a matte liquid lip, these are definitely worth checking out in my very humble opinion.
I swatch all eight in the video, with just one dip into the tube, just to show you the colour pay off and how they perform. Here are all eight, as I call it, ‘arm swatched’ too, just so you can see the shades close up.
From left to right we have:
Hola, Namaste, Salut, Konnichiwa, Aloha, Hello, Ciao, Ni Hao.
theBalm Balm Jour Creamy Lip Stain (s) are available now from theBalm website. (You can use the code ‘beautynookie’ for 15% off), and they are also available from Cloud10beauty here.
It comes enclosed in a sleeve that you of course take off. The palette itself is sturdy cardboard with kitsch graphics and a magnetic closing, like all of theBalm palettes.
When you open it up it has a mirror on the lid and then another enclosure which makes the shadows spell out ‘Eat Ur <3 Out’. This is to signify that the shadows represent a man menu for you to choose from π It does open up fully though and the pans are a large squares that are super accessible.
There are nine shadows in total ranging from matte, shimmer and foils. They are talc free and designed to be used wet or dry. All the shades are cool toned except for one rogue warm tone in the mix. The colour spectrum actually reminds me alot of the ‘Meet Matte Hughes’ Palette which I own too. Obviously, they are all matte though.
Onto the swatches. The matte shades are on the top row. May I add the gentlemen’s names are all food related π
Bruce Schetta
Mac Encheese
Ray Sinbread
The second row is probably my favourite. These are the foiled shadows.
Tate R. Tots
Rocky Road- Icecream
Chris P. Bacon
The third row is where the shimmers live.
Hal Apeno-Poppers
Artie Chokedip
Alfred O’Pasta
I am a fan of cool toned shadows so I like this palette and I can of course mix it with other palettes I have too if I want to warm things up. I think it is a lovely palette though, not perfect, but sure I am still searching for eyeshadow perfection. I find theBalm shadows really pigmented and easy to use. You do get a lot of kick back (dust) when you put your brush into the pan, but it doesn’t result in major fallout on the face. Overall, I am a fan, and I have been and will get lots of use out of the matte and foiled colours.
So as you can probably tell from the title, this weeks video is about the Sleek Colour Corrector Palette π
Yep, the one I am pointing to right there π
I was dubious about this little palette, I won’t lie. I received it in a very generous goody bag from Sleek along with lots of other amazing goodies. Including theΒ Solstice Highlighting Palette that I have a review of here. And, the Cleopatra’s Kiss Highlighting Palette which I have a post on here. They got use straight away, the Sleek Colour Corrector Palette got forgotten about.
But, I was shopping my stash which I do regularly and I stumbled across it in the back of a drawer. And sure the rest is history π
You can see my first impressions and a demo of some of the shades on my face in the video above. Or, you can click here to watch it directly.
I show you it in action on my visage, and show how well makeup applies over it. As well as giving you my honest opinion throughout the video.
Before
After (With Makeup Applied On Top Too)
Overall, it’s safe to say I am a fan of the Sleek Colour Corrector Palette! Not all the shades are for one specific person. They are for use on specific complexion issues. That is something to be wary about. I personally like the green and the yellow shade for my skin type.
You can buy it from Boots here, Cloud10Beauty here and Dolledup.ie here. I always like to give some Irish links where I can too. It’s always good to support your own π
Would it rock your boat? I know it’s definitely not a makeup necessity but, would it have a place in your makeup bag? I’d love to know your thoughts π
Through the years of wearing makeup and then becoming a bit of a makeup fiend, I’ve realised just how beneficial eyeshadow primer really is. I haven’t strayed very far from the cult classic Urban Decay Primer Potion. I’ve bought a lot of their palettes. And with alot of the palettes you get a sample of the primer potion. It works well for me so I never really felt the need to try something else. However, I received a few pretty decent samples of theBalm Put A Lid On It Eyelid Primer in a goody bag a while back and I must say, tentatively… I think I prefer it π
I’ve been using theBalm Put A Lid On It for a good 3 months now, so I think I’ve given it a fair trial.
I have two 3.7 ml sample sizes and I am still on the first on! When it comes to eyeshadow primer, like your face primer, less it more. You only need a very small layer of it under your eye makeup to do its magic. I sometimes use it under my eyes too to help my concealer sit a bit better too!
theBalm Put A Lid On It comes out of the tube in a skin colour, but when you blend it across your eye lid, it is pretty much undetectable.
It has a really light texture and smooths over any imperfections you might have. It dries down really quickly too and makes it very easy to apply creams or powders over top.
Of course, the main job of a eyeshadow primer is to make your eye makeup last and theBalm Put A Lid On It does a really good job at that. I have oily lids so I think I am a pretty good judge because without a primer, within a couple of hours I get creasing on my eye lids.
If you are looking for a primer that makes you shadows more vibrant, this probably isn’t for you. There are others on the market for that. But, if you are looking for one that smooths out your eyelids, is not sticky or tacky and makes your shadows last for the whole day, I wholeheartedly recommend this. As much as I like the Urban Decay Primer Potion, it can be a bit drying on the lids, whereas theBalm Put A Lid On It is a bit more fluid in texture and is easier to blend.
A 11.8 ml tube of theBalm Put A Lid On It will set you back β¬20 from Cloud 10 Beauty here.

I am an avid online shopper. I do love going into shops and seeing products in the flesh, don’t get me wrong. However, living on our little island, we don’t always get the products we want in store, or we just don’t have the time to do it! So, here are some of my favourite online beauty shopping haunts that I like to frequent π
Of course, alot of our favourite beauty retailers give us the option to shop online too, as well as in store. Some of my favourites are Boots, Debenhams, Brown Thomas and Arnotts. And I love that with some of these you have the option to click and collect so you don’t have to pay shipping and then whatever you bought, is packed up and paid for, just waiting for you to pick it up in store. Superdrug is another one that does that too, although I know they only have stores here in Dublin. You can shop from them online too though.
My favourite Irish online store for beauty shopping has to be cloud10beauty!They cover some of our amazing homegrown talent like Cocoa Brown, Waxperts and Blank Canvas Cosmetics. As well as some harder to get brands here like Pestle & Mortar and Alpha-H.They have you covered with blogger/vlogger brands like Zoella, Real Techniques, Colab, Tanya Burr and of course SOSU by Suzanne Jackson. There is something on Cloud10beauty for everyone, the shipping is super quick, it is free over β¬40, you get free gifts with purchase. They always have website deals on and very generous sales.
My next favourite online beauty shopping destination is Cult Beauty
The name really says it all! Cult Beauty stock a good chunk of the brands we all want a part of. And not just old stock, we can get new stock from American brands we covet! They stock the likes of Anastasia Beverley Hills, Aesop,Becca, Daniel Sander,Eve Lom, FAIRYDROPS (I didn’t know that actually, this post is really enabling my shopping habit :)), Huda Beauty, Jouer, Laura Gellar, OCC. I could go on, I really could. They have free worldwide shipping over Β£50, and again you can get free gift with purchases. They are also based in the UK so no worrying about custom charges and the likes.
Beauty Bay is another UK website that is jam packed full of American brands we want to get our hands on.
Products are a little pricey and shipping takes a while, but once you’re aware of that the beauty shopping is awesome! They stock the likes of Gerard Cosmetics, Natasha Denona, Anastasia, Cargo, Cover FX, Dose of Colour, Ellis Faas, and of course Makeup Geek!!!
Look Fantastic is another….fantastic beauty shopping hub π
They offer free standard worldwide shipping, it can take a while, so you do have to be patient, but again they are a UK registered company so no duty to worry about. They sell the likes of Illamasqua, EX1, Benefit, Deborah Lippman, Dermalogica and Nudestix. What I particularly like about Look Fantastic is their range of hair care. They cover brands like Kerastase, Redken, Phillip Kingsley, Nioxin and Tigi to name a few. And, they don’t scrimp on the money off vouchers either!
Feel Unique is another website I am often found browsing.
It is great for makeup and haircare, but it also carries an abundance of fragrance choices too, for both men and women. They cover the celeb fragrances as well as the likes of Marc Jacobs, Chanel, YSL and Stella McCartney. I rely on Feel Unique alot at Christmas time, it’s really handy for picking up gift sets.
For my last contribution in this post, I thought I would add in Asos.
Asos is a website I spend alot of time procrastinating on π It’s well known for fashion, but it does carry a good amount of beauty choices too. It has brands like Barry M, Rimmel and Benefit. But, it also carries harder to get brands (for us) like Japonesque, Anna Sui, Cowshed and so much more. There’s free shipping from Asos over β¬25 and they offer free returns too which is really handy.
I think I’ll leave it there π There’s other beauty corners of the internet I like to frequent, but I don’t want to bombard you. And these are all tried, tested and trusted websites that I’ve purchased from successfully on numerous occasions.
I hope you found this helpful and maybe discovered a new online beauty shopping haunt.
It’s monthly favourites time again here on Beautynook. It’s crazy, I spent so long not doing them and now my month doesn’t feel complete without rounding up some of the things that I’ve been using either freshly for the month or some old favourites that I’ve found a love for once again. So just click on the video above to see the things that made it into my June Favourites video π
And like always, I’ll link anything I can here too, in case something takes your fancy and you want to know more. I know monthly favourites are more rambly videos so less info is given generally while I’m in waffle mode π
First up we have the pom pom sandals from River Island. These will definitely divide opinions I know. Unfortunately these were limited edition and don’t seem to be on the website anymore. Asos have similar styles here though if you want to check them out.
The Kind Shower Gel from Cocoa Brown. I have a full a post all about the new Kind range here, if you want to check it out.
I’ve never done a blogpost on the Lorac Pro Palette for some weird reason! I had to buy it from Amazon, but that was a couple of years ago now.
Mac Whirl Lip liner can be bought from Brown Thomas in store or online here
The Rimmel Kate lipstick in number 45 is here on the Boots website.
I have a full post on the Sleek Solstice Palette here and you can pick it up from Boots (hopefully) in store or online here
The L’Occitane Verveine Cooling Hand Cream Gel is on their website here. I actually thought it was more expensive. β¬10.50 is ok for a 30ml tube, right?
And….we’re done π
As always thanks for taking the time to click and watch. If you liked the video, you can keep tabs on when I upload by subscribing to my Youtube channel here π
Have you any particular June Favourites? Let me know.
