This is not a dig at any of the brands that created these eyeshadow palettes. In fact I don’t really think overall, it’s really a dig at the eyeshadow palettes themselves. It’s just me explaining why I don’t reach for them, and why they don’t seem to work for me.
I might get a bitchy in between, but that tends to happen when you’re on a roll, right? 🙂 I have a bucket load of eyeshadow palettes. Makeup is my favourite pass time. There’s always going to be times I spend my money, or get something in a pr package that just doesn’t float my boat though.
There’s times also where you think you’re going to love a product, and then it just doesn’t get utilised. And that’s fine, it’s the look of the draw. Beauty products are being released constantly, it’s so easy to get caught up in the new shiny things on offer.
I’ve mentioned, I think all of these eyeshadow palettes in one form or another here on Beautynook or on my Instagram page. Some of them I loved initially, some I wanted because of the hype and some were bought on a whim. There is no reason to my thought process. And by the end of the video, I talked myself into trying to use at least one of them again, just because I don’t think it got a fair trial.
All the brands listed I enjoy and use a lot! I don’t think you can love everything a brand brings out. As I say in the video too though this is just my opinions and thoughts. We are all different. When it comes to reading reviews on products, never just read one. It’s always good to get different views and thought processes. Do you have and love any of these? Let me know.

I know, I know! This video only went up at the end of last year showing you my bargain River Island find. But having friends like Siopaella means I come into contact with some beautiful things. And sometimes those things stick, like my new Louis Vuitton handbag 🙂
I’ve gotten some questions about my new purchase, so I thought it would be fun to answer them in video form. My new very fancy purchase, is a vintage find from the 90’s, which makes me love it even more. It’s called the Louis Vuitton Jeune Fille Crossbody bag. I found out later that Jeune Fille means young girl in French, which I am at heart, but definitely not in real life 🙂
I am not a designer expert whatsoever. That’s Ella’s job, so be sure to follow Siopaella on Instagram to keep up with all their awesome content. Their unboxing videos are the best!
There is of course wear and tear to my new Louis Vuitton splurge, it’s old and it’s been used. I am completely ok with that, that comes with buying vintage. In the video, I tell you how I came across the bag and why I bought it, so I won’t bore you with any of that in written form.
And as an extra little bonus at the end, I rummage through it and show you the compartments that it has and all the crap I can fit into it. Including a stupid amount of makeup, of course 🙂

I have been in a bit of a creative rut this week. I asked on Instagram stories what kind of content you like. Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to message me and fill my head with awesome ideas. I appreciate it so much. A big shout out to my lovely friend Sinéad aka The Beautiful Truth for giving me the Disappointing Makeup Products idea.
I generally talk about products I really disliked on social media. When I review products I try to be as logical as possible. I like to give the pros and the cons. I rarely dedicate a post to things I have and just generally don’t get on with. But it’s fun to change things up 🙂 Now this won’t be scathing. Everything is up for interpretation and just because I dislike something doesn’t mean everyone does. This is just my opinion.
First up of my six disappointing makeup products, is the Kiko Smart Cult Eyeshadow Palette in Matte Revolution. I did a post swatching this when I first got it here.
I bought this in Brussels after seen it plastered all over social media. The colours looked so cool and generally I am a big fan of Kiko.
This just doesn’t do it for me though. On first swatch some of the colours are grand, but trying to blend them on the eyes is way too much of a chore. They blend away to nothing. Yes, I can make it work if I need to, but this palette has just ended up lying in a drawer not being used. It wasn’t expensive, but still, it was definitely a waste of my money.
For me, this foundation is too thick. I don’t like the doe-foot applicator, and I just find it hard to blend.
I don’t mind a thicker foundation, but I would put this in the same category as Esteè Lauder Double Wear. Although I do say in my review it isn’t as thick, but it nearly is 🙂 It’s just too much for me. At least Double Wear stands the test of time on my oily skin, this only does an ok job. I find it grand, but I haven’t reached for it much at all since buying it.
This just doesn’t keep my eyeshadow in check. I have relatively oily lids so I am generally a good judge of eyeshadow primer. This is in the shade Nude. I think it’s more yellow toned, so unless I am covering it completely on the lids, the tone will poke through a bit.
It just doesn’t cut the mustard. I like that it’s in stick form, it’s easy to use and super affordable, but not for me 🙁
The Zoeva Strobe Gel was completely bought on a whim because the jelly like texture intrigued me.
I have the shade Halo.
If you like a more subtle highlight, this might work for you. For me, it just looks like nothing on my skin, especially when applied with a brush. Applying it with your fingers is tricky though, as the formula just doesn’t allow itself to be picked up with your fingertips too well. I tried to incorporate it into my makeup and to make it work, but I just end up reaching for something else. It’s a cool concept, but gets a thumbs down from me.
My next two disappointing makeup products will again, be controversial.
Waterproof mascara is more my jam, most of the time. But I do try lots of non waterproof formulas and do review the ones that meet my extremely high mascara standards 🙂
So many people adore this mascara. I don’t! I deem it grand. It coats the lashes, helps a little with volume and on me, flakes like a bitch. If a mascara flakes after a long ass, productive day, I can live with that. But this does it a couple of hours into wear on me. For that reason, it’s made the list 🙂
Now hear me out because this is definitely a more personal disappointment. I am just not wowed by it. The texture is a bit drying, especially for the price. It’s also super super similar to my lip colour, so it tends to look more brown on me than pink.
I have the lipstick too . (I have a blogpost about it here). You can see both of them swatched in that. I reach for the lipstick way more, although I am not a huge fan of the fragrance, but I can get over that. I have the lip liner literally years, and it’s still very much in tact as you can see. Give me Rimmel’s Eastend Snob liner over it any day!
Do any of my disappointing makeup choices shock you? Are some of your holy grails in here? This is what I love about makeup, one person’s trash can be another person’s treasure 🙂
My first get ready with me for 2018! You know I love these videos myself, I love zoning out and just watching the makeup take shape. This makeup look is one I did to go out for dinner.
I had some new products I wanted to use and I wanted to look put together but not too dolled up, if that makes sense?
Now of course that’s up for interpretation. You could look at this makeup look and think you could never in a million years put this much makeup on.
Foundation: Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Foundation. (Review here), mixed with the LA Girl HD Foundation. Completely unnecessary to mix foundations, it’s just something I like to do to change up colour, coverage, longevity, depending on the scenario.
Ok, writing it out, it’s a hell of a lot of product to use in one makeup look I know, but I do go a bit extra with things. Not all steps are necessary 🙂
All the products listed are linked and you can go directly to my YouTube channel here if you want to check out the video directly.
I get asked every year to do a beauty advent calendar post, and I’ve always not ended up doing one. I generally always like to be able to use and give a physical opinion on products when it comes to the blog. I’ve been doing this four years now and that’s what kind of feels natural to me. To talk about products I have road tested and used. But sure there’s always exceptions and I’ve realised that now.
I’m a little blogger fish in a big pond and I can’t buy or get sent all of the fancy beauty advent calendars every year. So, I thought I would just compile the ones that are really taking my fancy in the run to Christmas for 2017 🙂
The first one is the one I am really considering buying for myself, although I have yet to justify it. This is the Beauty In Wonderland from Look Fantastic
This is retailing from their website here for €98. They say it contains product worth up to £300.
It’s a mixture of all different brands and all different types of beauty products. Also the packaging is pretty gorgeous. i blame Sharon Leavy from Behind Green Eyes for making me lust after this so much 🙂
Feel Unique do their own version too here. This costs €42 which is a little more palatable, I know.
They also give you a list of the products enclosed if you don’t want to wait until the Christmas countdown.
Clarins always do a really lovely beauty advent calendar and this year is no exception.
This is what would be deemed the more feminine version but there is a male offering too. This will set you back £52.50 here. This has been the cheapest I’ve found it online. It contains 12 minis including one of their Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors, one of my personal faves.
Lancôme have a ridiculously lovely one this year with a 25 day countdown.
This costs €130 from Boots here, but you do get 25 mini products, ranging from skincare to fragrance.
If you want exclusively skincare, L’Occitane have a beautiful 25 day calendar chock full of it.
I actually think this is a really good deal at €59 from Debenhams here.
If Charlotte Tilbury is your go to brand, you’re in luck! She has released a Naughty & Nice Magic Box for this year.
It contains 12 makeup and skincare goodies. This is the most expensive one of the bunch coming in at €180 here.
If lipstick is your thing, Nyx have released their Kiss & Tell Advent Calendar again this year.
This is €67.57 from Asos here. Although if you buy in pounds it generally works out cheaper.
It contains 24 lip colours to suit any mood.
I know these are all pretty pricey, so if you are looking for a more budget friendly beauty advent calendar, hopefully I can cover you here.
The Tanya Burr 12 Sweet Days Beauty Calendar contains 12 products including nail polish and glitter liners.
I included this because you can still get your beauty hit with it, and it’s on sale from Feel Unique at the moment here. They also have it on 3 for 2 if you’re shopping for anyone else.
Asos have a budget friendly option too here from Mad Beauty.
This is a range of hair, skin and nail products and will only set you back €14.85.
My last choice is this years Makeup Revolution Calendar. This contains 25 full sized products.
It is on sale at the moment from Superdrug here. It was £50 and now it’s £30.
And there you have my beauty advent calendar countdown. Any take your fancy? Have you already bought one? Let me know 🙂
I am back with another Get Ready With Me video! This one is a more casual night out makeup look.
I was heading to a blogger event that evening, so knew I needed to put a bit more makeup on than the average day. It wasn’t a full on lashes and glam scenario though, hence the name ‘casual night out makeup’. 🙂
We were dog sitting so it was really nice to turn the camera on somewhere else and film. Also, the surroundings were much nicer than what I am accustomed too in my little house, that’s for sure 🙂 Louis the schnauzer was also on hand to make a cameo at the end of the video. How cute is he though? He slept right through filming on the couch beside me.
As always, I will try list all the products I used. Of course, if I miss something and you’re curious, just ask. I love nothing more than to talk makeup with people.
Benefit Matte Resue
Benefit Porefessional. I actually did a first impressions on the new goodies from the Porefessional range here if you’re interested.
Wet n Wild Photo Focus Foundation. I will be reviewing this very soon.
Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner and Lipstick in ‘Pillow Talk’. The lipstick is now available in Ireland, but I do have a post on it before it was here.
As always you can watch the video by clicking on it above, or directly on my YouTube channel here.
And that’s my casual night out makeup done! As always, thanks for tuning it, I really appreciate it.
