It’s Christmas, time to pull out the glitter and throw all the makeup on your face 🙂 Here is my version of a party makeup look using all affordable products. Even most of the tools are affordable too.

Irish beauty blogger beautynook

I went simple with a gold and brown eye with some gold glitter and lashes. I wanted to create a party makeup that I would actually wear myself. As I say in the video though, 2017 will hopefully be the year, I get out of my comfort zone a bit video wise and be a little braver with my makeup.

Party Makeup

I mention all the products I use in the video as I go along, but to recap:

party makeup

I used the Real Techniques Miracle Sculpting Sponge to apply them and have my full thoughts on that here.

I did a post similar to this last here year for my first Christmas in Beautynook world. It’s a festive red lip for under a fiver. I still love and use both of products I used, these are just alternatives for your 2016 Festive Red Lipstick look 🙂

festive red lipstick

I think a decent lip liner is as important as the lipstick you choose when rocking a red lip. You can by all means go for a more soft approach and that’s beautiful too. But, when you’re going full out bright and Christmas-sy red, I think a crisp lip line is important. And you don’t want any bleeding, I mean lipstick bleeding but of course we don’t want any bleeding at all 🙂

festive red lipstick

For this year’s festive red lipstick lip liner, I went with the Rimmel Exaggerate in ‘Red Diva’.

irish beauty blog

I am a big fan of the Rimmel Exaggerate lip liners. They are super soft and easy to apply. And they now have an angled twist up nib which I find really handy for outlining and correcting my lip line. ‘Red Diva’ is the perfect classic red colour and actually works really nicely on it’s own as well.

This costs €5.49 and you can get it from the Boots website here.

The lipstick I chose is a new release for 2016. It’s one of the new Lip VIP’s from Sleek Makeup. It is called ‘Walk Of Fame’.

These are a semi matte formula lipstick. They are really creamy, pigmented and very comfortable to wear.

I just think both of these products together are a really lovely and affordable festive red lipstick combination. The Sleek Lip Vip’s are available from Boots too for €7.49 here.

Matte lips are everywhere at the minute so I thought I would go old school with more of a creamy textured combo. Layering the products means they are still long lasting but they won’t dry out your lips as much.

It is such a cliché I know, but I just love a red lip during Christmas time 🙂

The Penneys PS Love Lip Liners have dare I say reached a bit of a cult status in the online beauty world.

Penneys PS Love Lip Liners

We constantly see them in flat lays and in favourites, or at least I do anyway 🙂 I am no stranger to talking about them myself either may I add. But, I’ve never done a post on them specifically. So here are my overall thoughts.

Penneys PS Love Lip Liners

I have four shades of the Penneys PS Love Lip Liners in my lip liner stash. Say that with a few gins on board!

top beauty blog

All four shades are pigmented, soft, true to colour and apply to the lips without dragging or feeling uncomfortable. That’s no mean feat! That being said, because they are softer, I personally wouldn’t use them just on their own. I would just use them to do the job of actually lining the lips before lipstick. Or, I would add a gloss or balm over the top. They do transfer and fade after a short period of time, in my experience.

The one I use the most and looks a bit stubby next to it’s colourful friends is the brown, more neutral shade in 06.

My next most used would probably be the red in 05. It is a brilliant true red colour.

I actually did a post last year including this here. It’s about getting a festive red lip for under a fiver if you want to check it out. I think out of the four liner shades I have, this would be the most long wearing.

Then we have the deep plum shade in 04.

For me, this is the one that fades the quickest. But, paired under a similar coloured lipstick, it helps stop bleeding and gives you cleaner edges. If of course that’s what you want.

The last shade I have is a light powdery pink in 07.

This is my least used out of the four I have. Just because the colour doesn’t particularly suit me. Saying that, it works great for adding some pink to a more neutral lipstick. And, you can use it under darker shades and it won’t interfere with the colour of them too much.

penneys makeup

Overall, I think it’s fair to say the Penneys PS Love Lip Liners are a hit with me. And for €1.50 they definitely won’t break the bank either. Makeup bargain personified!

Another delve into some purse friendly beauty faves. This time I took some inspiration in the changing of the seasons. Here are five Budget Autumn Lipstick choices.

budget autumn lipstick

Autumn makeup for me is summed up by dark vampy lips. Of course, it’s appropriate to wear them all year round, there’s no rules in makeup. But, I always tend to pull out the deeper shades more at this time of the year.

I chose five budget friendly Autumn lipsticks from my collection. All from different brands in hopes of giving you some inspiration for the colder months 🙂

irish beauty youtuber

First up we have the Lasting Finish Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipstick in the shade ‘Retro Red’. This is from the 15th anniversary collection.

This has a creamy finish. I thought it would be a good choice if you didn’t want to go full on plum vamp. It’s still dark but as the name would suggest in a more retro red way 🙂 You can get these from Boots instore or online here for €10.99. You can get them in pharmacies and in Penneys too and they’re usually cheaper!

Number 2 on the Budget Autumn Lipstick list is the Sleek VIP Lipstick in ‘Attitude’.

I love these lippies. They are creamy and pigmented and really lovely to apply. This shade for me, is Autumn personified. The formula is quite forgiving on the lips too if they are dry  or cracked. These are available in store or online here from Boots for €7.49. You can find them on Cloud10beauty and Dolledup.ie aswell.

My third pick is one of the Matt Matt Matt lipsticks from Essences Autumn/Winter Collection for this year. You can see the whole collection here. This is in the shade 07 ‘Purple Power.

This is a more purple take on the vampy lip trend. As you would guess from the name this has a matte finish. But it’s not so matte that it will dry out your lips completely. These are a steal too at only €2.90 a pop.

My fourth Budget Autumn Lipstick choice is the Makeup Revolution Rose Gold Lipstick in ‘Private Members Club’.

This is the glossiest choice of the five. It’s plum but with more a blackened undertone, so definitely not for the faint hearted 🙂 You can buy these from Superdrug online or directly from Makeup Revolution here. They cost €4.20 a piece.

My final choice is from Wet n Wild. The Wet n Wild Megalast Matte lipsticks are some of my very favourites. I have a bunch of them swatched here in a previous post. They are pigmented and although matte, still creamy and easy to apply. The shade I have here is ‘Ravin Raisin’.

This is like a 90’s representation of a plum lipstick. It has a mauve undertone and I love it 🙂 You can get the Megalast lipsticks in Penneys and they are a ridiculously reasonable €2.99.

I swatched all of my Budget Autumn Lipstick choices side by side too, just so you could see the differences close up.

I said I would make these lists every so often when affordable brands make things that really float my boat. This post is going to run through five budget brown eyeliners that I have been reaching for of late for different reason.

Budget Brown eyeliners

I am going through a bit of a brown liner phase. Black has eluded me. I will go back to it I am sure, but for now I am enjoying the less intense look that brown eyeliner gives to the eyes.

I chose five budget brown eyeliners that I have been legit reaching for daily for different reasons.

Number one is the Maybelline Color Show Kohl in 410.

maybelline ireland

I talk more about these here. I like using this to smoke out the lash line. It’s really soft and doesn’t really set very quickly, so you get alot of play time with it. I think a dark brown kohl liner is always handy to have in your makeup stash.

My next two budget brown eyeliner picks are both from Essence.

Their Extreme Lasting Eye Pencil in 05 ‘Rockin’ Taupe’ is a newer favourite. This is part of the Essence Autumn Winter Collection. I did a whole blog post about the collection not too long ago here.

This is more grey toned shimmery taupe colour. Again, this works well in the waterline if you want to darken things up a little more , but still want the look to remain soft. I love using it all over the lid too as an eyeshadow base. It blends really nicely but sets too. So it helps your shadows last longer and adds a little something more to the look.

The is the Essence Longlasting Eye Pencil in 19 ‘Hot Scorch’. I love these retractable liners. I talk more about them here.

This particular one is a nice warm bronze shimmery shade that lasts particularly well in the waterline. I love this when I just want to add a bit of something there without looking too ‘done’ or dark. It looks fab swept on the top or bottom lash line too. And it is super cheap!

My last two picks are of the darker brown variety.

The first one is actually from one of the trio of Shimmer Strips from Physicians Formula. I think this one is from the Warm Nudes Trio. You can buy them from Dolledup.ie here.

At €16.90 these are definitely the priciest of the bunch, but you do get three liners for that. This is like a blackened brown colour, so probably the darkest of the bunch aswell. This is such an easy kajal liner to use. The thick conical shape of it makes it super handy to get into the lash line. I wouldn’t be using this for a thin defined line. This is more of I want to do a brown smoky eye look. I would use this as a shadow base or on top to darken things up and on the waterline too.

My last pick is a gel liner that is another new edition to my makeup collection.

This is the Flormar Gel Eyeliner in ‘Bole Brown’. This comes with a brush in the lid too which isn’t half bad at all.

It’s a nice chocolatey brown that you can build up the opacity with. I find gel liners a bit scary sometimes, so I like that this can be layered and if I do mess it up (which I do…alot). I can fix it before things get too full on in the liner department 🙂 It sets and works really well in the water line too. You can get it on SimplyFoxy here or any Flormar stockists for €7.95.

Here they all are swatched in order left to right, just so you can get an idea of the difference in texture and colour.

And we’re done. Five Budget Brown Eyeliners to hopefully suit every need and taste 🙂

I have begun to do monthly favourites again on Beautynook a while ago now and am really enjoying it. It makes me extra conscious of products I continually pick up.

So, I thought I would start doing just general favourites too. Monthly ones can be for makeup, skincare and anything in between. These posts will be a little more theme driven. Hope that’s ok 🙂
So here’s five budget makeup products that have really been floating my beauty boat at the moment.

Budget Makeup Favourites

  1. The Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

Excuse the appearance of mine, unfortunately the writing on the tube doesn’t withstand much…touching really :p

irish beauy blog

I used this years ago when it was all the rage and then just forgot to ever repurchase it, once I became a full on makeup fiend. Why, I don’t know, because it’s a bloomin’ good!

irish beauty blogger

I have the shade ‘Fair 1’ which brightens up my pale complexion really well.

top irish beauty blogtop irish beauty blogger

I do use this on it’s own and it works well. It has good coverage. But, most of the time I like to layer it over my Urban Decay Naked Concealer (I’ve a full review of this here). The Naked Concealer I have is too dark for me, so layering them on top of each other gives me hardcore under eye coverage and some brightness too. The consistency of the Lasting Perfection is really easy to blend so it’s works really well for layering. It’s a gem of a product. You can buy it from Boots here and it’ll set you back €5.79, not bad at all, right?

2. My second budget makeup favourite is what I use to apply the concealer with. It’s the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. Again, mine has seen better days. But it means I do actually use it…alot!

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

I’ve had a Beauty Blender in my stash since we were first able to get our hands on them here in Ireland and I do really love it. In in my humble opinion though, the Miracle Complexion Sponge is just as good! It melts both cream and powder products into the skin so you’re never left with cake face. And as an oily skinned gal who loves her powders for longevity, this is awesome for me.

I also love that it has a flat end and a more pointed end because it caters to all contours of the face.

beauty blog irelandbeauty blogger ireland

I’ve also jumped onto the ‘baking’ bangwagon of late, so this is perfect for applying powder under the eyes too. In fact, other than blush and of course whatever I apply on my eyes, I can pretty much do my whole face with this. My poor brushes don’t know what to do with themselves. I’ve just been having a real moment with my sponges 🙂 The Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is €7.99 here from Boots. They also come in a double pack here too for €14.99.

3. This is another product I picked up first years ago, loved and then forgot about. This is the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer.

maybelline baby skin primer

This is very much the stereotypical silicone primer so it’s definitely a love hate thing. For me and my skin it work really well.

irish beauty websitetop irish beauty website

I have large pores, so I need a primer that will glide over them and make them less visible. It has a matte finish too. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a miracle worker or anything like that. But it does the job of holding onto my makeup for longer and gives a smoother base to work on top of. It’s something I’ve repurchased many times over the years and have never regretted it. It’s €11.49 again from Boots here.

4. Number 4 on my budget makeup list is the H&M ‘Sheer Tan’ Solar Flair Bronzing Powder.

h&M Sheer Tan BronzerH&M beauty

When I was in Oslo at the start of the year, I picked up lots of products from the H&M beauty line. Some just didn’t cut the mustard for me at all. This bronzer however, has remained in my everyday makeup stash and I reach for it alot.

H&M makeup

As the name would suggest it gives a sheer pop of colour.

budget makeup favourites

It’s has kind of a satin finish to it, but no shimmer or shine. it is really finely milled, so blends really smoothly and naturally onto the skin. Their bronzers come in 6 shades so there’s one to suit all and they cost €7.99. We can actually shop online from H&M now so here’s a link if you fancy a nose too 🙂

5. My last favourite is a new one to me, and the first product I’ve ever used from the Freedom brand. This is their Duo Brow Powder’.

freedom duo brow powder

They look really similar to the Anastasia Brow Duos, right?

freedom brow duo soft brown

I bought this on a whim from the Superdrug website. I did a quick google for colour swatches and thank god for fellow bloggers out there because it worked out really well for me. This is in the shade ‘Soft Brown’.

budge makeup

I use the lighter shade to fill in my brows either on it’s own or over pencil, depending on the day. Then, the darker shade it great for adding dimension or filling in any gaps.

Budget Makeup Favourites_3224

The powders aren’t super opaque in colour when you swatch them, which would have put me off buying one in store.

top budget beauty buys

This is weirdly why I am enjoying them so much though. It actually means I don’t go over the top filling in my brows so they end up looking somewhat natural 🙂 You can buy them from Superdrug online here and they cost £3.

There you have it! Five Budget Makeup Favourites from me. These are products that I am using pretty much everyday right now and loving.
Let me know if you have any budget makeup favourites 🙂
