Another month another bundle of random products and things. Yep, it’s time for my August favourites for 2016 🙂 Summer is just about to come to an end. I am completely ok with Autumn coming, Winter is another story though…bleh!
Anyways…my August Favourites bring a random array of goodies your way. If you are an eagle eyes reader you may notice that there is a makeup brush in my hand in the cover photo. First off well done for noticing 🙂 And also it’s nearly become a tradition for me now to lose chunks of footage from my monthly favourites videos and the brush clip was the unlucky one that just disappeared off of my camera. But, it’s a dual ended blending brush from Blank Canvas Cosmetics with the E26 on one end and the E25 on the other. It’s on their website here and I really like it, it’s so handy!
The rest of my favourites look a bit like this.
You can buy the Adidas Superstar runners from JD Sports here. I’m nearly sure John paid €88 for my ones in June for my birthday but the listed price here is €95.
I have a whole post about the Becca x Jaclyn Hill Palette here.
You can buy the Dermalogica Hyrda Blur Primer here.
I have a video about the Garnier Micellar Oil infused Cleansing Water here too.
The Guns n Roses T-shirt is from the men’s department in H&M. I found it on the website here. It’s actually €14.99, I got my pricing wrong, apologies.
And then finally, my random phone ring thing 🙂 I got it from eBay here and I regret nothing :).
So there you have it, if you need anymore info, by all means just ask. You can of course watch the video above on the website or you can watch it directly from youtube by clicking the link here.
I hope you have a healthy and happy September. Thanks as always for the support.
The day I filmed this video I was heading to the Irish Beauty Blog Awards where I was casually up for an award…no biggie like 🙂 Unfortunately I came home empty handed, but we had a good night regardless 🙂
I love handbags, but I am a lazy git and don’t always carry one. However, for a night out a bag is a completely necessary addition to my outfit. Us girls bring an arsenal of ‘just in case’ items in our handbags. We just make it a little smaller when we hit the town so we don’t have to lug around the big everyday bag. I think this makes what we bring that more important and it’s stuff we actually use and love 🙂
So tonight Matthew I bring you ‘What’s in My Handbag’ the night out edition. Just a bit of fun. I love having a nosey into other people’s handbags so I though it was fitting that I let you have a nose into mine. Click on the video about to watch me waffle up a storm and then I’ll have everything I talk about listed below and anything that I can link linked 🙂
So…what’s in my handbag?….
Too Faced Kabuki brush. I can’t find the exact one. This is a similar one from Too faced here.
Mac Studio Fix Powder, you can buy from Brown Thomas here
Catrice Prime & Fine Contour Palette can be found in Penneys nationwide and independent stockists. I have swatches of it here.
Benefit Porefessional License To Blot , You can pick it up from Debenhams online here and I have a full review here too.
You can buy the Rimmel Exaggerate Eyeliners in store or from Boots online here.
You can get the Exaggerate Lipliners like the eyeliners in store or from Boots online here. I also have swatches of it here if you’re interested 🙂
Rimmel The Only One Lipstick in Naughty Nude- I have swatches here and you can buy from Boots online here.
I bought the Chanel card holder from Brown Thomas. Very fancy purchase, but I do get alot of use out of it 🙂
And I think that’s it, if I missed anything out be sure to let me know.

I don’t think there’s one person in the world who enjoys the task of cleaning their makeup brushes. If you do I applaud you, for me it’s a menial task. However, the aftermath is so rewarding, seeing all of the white fluffy head peaking out of their flower pot homes 🙂
How I clean my makeup brushes is not a new way or a fancy way (have you seen the machines you can buy now to do it?) but it gets the job done and it gets my makeup brushes and sponges squeaky clean.
Over the years of being a makeup fanatic I have accumulated alot of makeup brushes, so it does take me a while to get through them and then that means when I run out of clean ones, I have a pretty mammoth job on my hands. I change up my foundation brush probably every three uses, of course you can just wash as you go, I just have a few to procrastinate with 🙂
Brush cleaning mats have become the norm in the makeup world. Sigma and Real Techniques have their own versions of them. They’re basically just a gripped rubber surface and so people have found cheaper alternatives be it in the household department (rubber gloves work great too), in Penneys, Dealz, or for me I found mine in the body care aisle of Boots.
This is the Massage Glove from Soap & Glory. I first saw Anna from ViviannaDoesMakeup using this. It’s rubber, it has grips and you can slip your hand into it for added pressure on your brushes. Even better news a lovely reader told me she saw these being sold off in her local Boots for nearly half the RRP, score!
In the past, I’ve used the Massage Glove in conjunction with baby shampoo and this works well, but for more stubborn makeup brushes like tightly packed kabuki ones, it can be a labour of love trying to get the bristles really clean.
There are specifically formulated brush cleansers too which are great but can be hard to come by. I saw alot of people using naturally derived soaps, and the Moogoo Fresh Milk Cleansing Bar has been spoken about very highly to get the job done well, so I had to give it a go. It contains Olive Oil (which is another great deep brush cleanser in it’s own right) and Cocoa Butter.
Both of these, with some added hot water of course do the job really well!
I take the massage glove on my hand. Another reason why I like the glove is that it protects your hand from the soap and water. I am not a fan of crinkly fingers 🙂
Wet my makeup brush with warm/hot water.
Swirl it in the bar of soap a few times.
I am firm enough to get into the base of the bristles, but I am conscious of the ferrule and the handle as if they can get damaged from water getting in, the bristles or even the actual brush head can become loose.
I massage the soaped up brush with the glove to lather it up and really get it clean.
And then rinse.
For brushes you use with liquid products, you might have to repeat the steps a couple times until the water runs clear.
It works really well on makeup sponges too. Here’s my well loved Beauty Blender.
And my Real techniques Sponge before and after.
It even works on the flat tightly packed brushes too.
When it comes to eyeshadow brushes, if I have only used them for powder products, I usually grab a few that are of similar length and clean them together.
When I am finished soaping up 🙂 I lay a towel on the floor under a radiator and place all of my makeup brushes down along it.
The towel helps absorb excess moisture and then if the radiator is on the residual heat helps the drying process too. If I need some of the brushes in a hurry I’ll put a few of them alot the top of the rad too, not ideal, but needs must 🙂
Of course if you lived in a hotter drier climate you could just use your window sill, or you can just air dry them or even put them in the hot press, whatever works for you!
And there you have it, my makeup brushes are now hygienically clean but also any product staining is also gone too, which is not always achieved with other methods.
Be sure to let me know if you found this helpful and if you have any brush cleaning tips or tricks 🙂
I already reviewed the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte Foundation last year. After using it for a while I thought it was good but nothing really special.
I have since deleted that post, because I have been using it a lot over the past few months and I have properly fallen in love with it. It has converted me and I am not too proud to admit it 🙂
I have a few foundations in rotation, but I think out of them all, I have been reaching for the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte Foundation the most.
I know I say it in probably every post, but I have oily skin, so this type of foundation should really tick all of the boxes for me. L’Oreal say it has a medium texture, high coverage and shine control. I don’t know about shine control because I always powder my foundation. It does set to a matte finish though and the other two I can somewhat agree with. I have seen the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Matte Foundation being compared to the Estee Lauder Doublewear online, and I can kind of get it. Although, I think it has a lighter consistency than Doublewear and it has a lighter finish on the skin. Sure, I let you have a look for yourself 🙂 I use the shade 11 Vanilla and it’s a pretty good match for my Mac NC20 skin tone.
Here is my skin with just primer on it.
Then, here is one layer of the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Foundation, buffed in with a Real Techniques Buffing Brush brush. I apply it with the nozzle of the tube onto my face.
On my skin, one layer gives medium coverage. It covers any light imperfections and somewhat blurs pores.
I like to add another light layer to my problem areas though…which is kind of all over, not gonna lie. 🙂
The L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Mattifying Foundation, is actually really easy to layer. It doesn’t cake up on my skin, or look too dry or heavy. Although it has really good coverage and covers what I want it to cover, it doesn’t mask my skin either. I think this is a very rare thing for a matte, good coverage foundation.
It doesn’t oxidize or separate throughout the day. I will get shiny and have to powder my t zone, but nothing major, and the shine won’t kick in until about the 4th or so hour of wear. For me, that’s pretty good so I’m not complaining.
If you have normal skin or even a little combination (how lucky are you) and enjoy a more matte finish to your foundation without adding powder, I think the LOreal Infallible 24 HR Mattifying Foundation could work for you too.
In the words of Baby’s father to Johnny Castle, ‘When I’m wrong, I say I’m wrong’, this is definitely one of those instances for me 🙂
You can pick up the L’Oreal Infallible 24HR Mattifying Foundation instore from Boots or online here. It will set you back 12.29.
I already have makeup looks with all the Urban Decay Naked palettes here on Beautynook. You can check out Naked 1 look here, Naked 2 here, Naked 3 here and Naked Smoky here. I did a look with the Naked 2 the other day and put a couple of selfies up on my Facebook page and some of you seem to like it and asked me to film a tutorial, thank you by the way 🙂
So, I did it, well attempted to anyways 🙂 I am really new to this Youtube thing, but I gave it my best go and managed to recreate this really easy Urban Decay Naked 2 makeup look. I am not a makeup artist so I am going to call them makeup looks rather than tutorials, hope you don’t mind.
If you like this video, it would make my day if you went over to my youtube channel and subscribed. I am going to try my best to be consistent with it.
Check out my first impressions of the Revlon Ultra Volume Waterproof mascara. I only bought this mascara in Boots the other day. This was my first time to use the mascara, so I documented it in video form 🙂
As the formula is waterproof I also left it on all day and reported back to see how well it wore. Just click on the video for all the deets. Let me know if you like these sorts of videos and please please subscribe to my Youtube channel here, if you like it!
