Posts

Ok, this is probably the most ridiculous posts I will every write, but hear me out πŸ™‚ I have spoke about this before in other posts aswell as on social media. I do not justify it, but I use TWO mascaras generally on a daily basis! Madness I know. I want something that holds a curl, lengthens and defines up top. Down below, I want something that lengthens, separates and doesn’t flake or smudge. This is where the Mac Extended Play Lash comes in.

Mac Exended Play Lash

Now I will say I don’t always repurchase it. I don’t find it does great things for my top lashes. For me, it’s just OK. I much prefer the likes of Catrice Glam & Doll Waterproof which I have an old review of here, or my ride or die Fairydrops Scandal Queen mascara, review here. Scandal Queen does hold tight on the bottom lashes but I find the brush a bit cumbersome and the formula a bit thick for my sparse hairs.

When I bite the bullet and reintroduce Mac Extended Play Lash into my routine, I just fall in love with it all over again. It’s a treat for my bottom lashes. And they deserve it, they don’t have a lot going on in their lives!

Mac Extended Play Lash

Extended Play just works so well, so every once in a while, I choose to be apologetically extra and pick one up. The wand is thin and reasonably small, so it makes it easy to really get in and coat all of the hairs. The formula is quite wet which I think is beneficial for your lower lashes because you can really pack the product on without it clumping or making the hairs bunch together. It does a really good job (for me anyways) of making my bottom lashes look longer and so much fuller. I generally have pretty boring short lashes naturally.

The one thing that makes me buy it again and again though is that it doesn’t budge when you put it on, but the waterproof formula is not a pain to get off either. On me, it never flakes or smudges on my lower lash line. I’ve never had this with any other mascara except probably the Clinique Bottom Lash.

Of course people use it on their top lashes as well and love it, but it really has become a bit of a cult bottom lash mascara. I think it’s fair to say I bloody love it πŸ™‚

You can buy Mac Extended Play Lash in Mac and Brown Thomas in store. Or online from BT here. It costs €20. So tell me, do you think I’m crazy? πŸ™‚

The Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita Palette has been on my lust list for a long ass time. I finally bit the bullet and went in to Brown Thomas to part with the dosh. Ms Dolce Vita looks a bit like this.

charlotte tilbury dolce vita palettebrown thomas charlotte tilburyOn the back Charlotte gives a guide. The lightest shade is the prime, the coppery is the enhance, the darker brown is the smoke shade and then the glitter is the pop. Of course you can use them any way you want, ’tis up to you πŸ˜‰

dolce vita swatchThey are all shimmery shades. They are buttery and full of pigment too. If you are like me and like a bit more of a matte shade in the crease though, you will obviously have to bring some other shadows into the mix, but we can live with that, right?

The eyeshadow quads feel lovely and luxurious, as does most of the Charlotte Tilbury range. Thank god because the products ain’t cheap!

I did a really quick eye look with Dolce Vita so you can see it in action.

I primed my lids and added a skin colour powder as normal to get rid of any tackiness.

I added a taupe brown shade lightly in my crease too just to give the shimmery colours something to blend into.

I lined my upper lid with the brown Rimmel Waterproof Eye Definer.

I curled and added a load of mascara to my top lashes as you do. Then took the lightest shade of the Dolce Vita Palette.

Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita Palette (16)I applied this to my brow bone and used it to highlight the inner corner of my eyes.

I of course had to use the pop shade, so I just applied a light layer of it on my eyelid with my finger. I think it applies best with your fingers.

To define the lower lash line a little bit, I just applied some of the coppery shade and blended it out.

To finish the look, I added some mascara on my lower lashes and used the Rimmel pencil in my waterline. Dunzo πŸ™‚

I think the shades in the Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita Palette are really universal and will work for every eye colour. It looks particularly gorge on blue eyes though. It’s really a lovely palette, but with a €50 price tag (here), it’s definitely a treat. Maybe something to put on the Christmas list?

Gem's August Faves

Yep, it’s August Favourites time, holy moly, it’s nearly Christmas!! A bit premature I know but I loves Christmas so any excuse to talk about it and I will πŸ™‚

Ok, back to the topic in hand sorry for getting distracted…it happens very easily. Anita did her August faves here, be sure to check them out.

I have a couple of new skincare faves in the month of August. Pixi’s Glow Tonic is one of them.

Pixi Glow Tonic

This toner contains ingredients like witch hazel, aloe vera, ginseng and glycolic acid to gently exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells. It is also meant to help with toning and firming. I think this has really helped with the texture of my skin, without completely drying it out. I am super oily so I would spend my days over exfoliating thinking this would help, it doesn’t. It just ends up dehydrating my skin and making it harder to manage. I feel this toner is gentle enough to use everyday and clears pores without completely stripping the natural oils away. I am really enjoying using it. I picked this up from Mise Beauty for 20 Euro.

Another skin fave, which is on a completely different price spectrum. I admit, I did not purchase this, it was in a goody bag I received. You can find it in Space NK or Feel Unique stock it too. It’s in and around 165 Euro to buy, holy crap! I can’t say I would pay this money for it to be honest, but I have been enjoying using it.

Perricone MD Cold Plasma

This is the Perricone MD Cold Plasma. It’s suitable for all skin types. I think it’s more marketed towards being an anti ageing, and I do feel like it plumps your skin up (although I’m pretty plump already πŸ™‚ ). It also helps with enlarged pores though which is something I suffer from and I feel like it’s doing something slowly but surely for me, without filling in the pores and giving me more blackheads and whiteheads which can happen to me with rich moisturisers.Β  It has a funny nearly jelly like consistency and gets a layer on the top of the cream which is odd, and the smell is not very pleasant.

Perricone

They’re are rave reviews about the Cold Plasma online, so I am going to keep using it and see if I can look ten years younger by the end of the pot. You’d want to for that dosh!

I know it’s a bit ridic for me to be claiming love for a fragrance when I have it only less than a week, but I think with a perfume when you know you know… I also bought it at the beginning of September so I’m technically cheating but I’m a tad obsessed.

Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt

This is the newest Jo Malone Cologne in Wood Sage and Sea Salt. I know it doesn’t sound very inviting, but bare with me and give it a sniff the next time you are in Brown Thomas . I won’t dare try to describe it, but I’ll just say if you like musky but still sweet fragrances you will love this. It’s the perfect Winter scent and it makes me happy just sniffing it. I think it will become a regular in my perfume line up πŸ™‚

I have a makeup fave next.

Sleek eau la la liners

These are the Eau la la Liners by Sleek Makeup. We speak a stupid amount about Sleek on Chatterbox I know, but it’s a bloody good affordable brand, we need to shout it from the rooftops! These liners can be used as eye or lip liners and come in an abundance of shades. I always think “drugstore brands” lack in the lip liner department and just do the basic colours, but Sleek have you covered! They are creamy, pigmented, soft and long lasting, what more can I say to sell you on them, oh yeh they’re 5.99 Euro and you can get them online, from Mise Beauty and Boots Liffey Valley and Blanchardstown. I want them all!

My next fave is not a new thing to me at all, in fact I have been using them for years, but I thought I lost it at the start of the month and I was traumatised.

Tweezerman

Turns out it was only hiding from me! This is my newest Tweezerman Tweezers. I have had a few over the years. They are hands down the best tweezers I have ever used and it took “losing” it to realise how brilliant and nimble it is. I have stubborn coarse eyebrow hair and this thing just gets them out in record time with the least amount of pain. I never want to be without again.

I came across these Invisibobbles at the Ultimate Girls Day Out event in the RDS mid August. The Essential Salon Supplies booth had them. They intrigued me so I had to grab some and check them out.

Invisibobble

Let’s begin with, I know they’re not invisible πŸ™‚ But these weird phone wire looking plastic bobbles, grip and hold your hair in place without pulling or loosening on your hair. They don’t give you a headache from being too tight and they are comfortable to wear in bed which is what I use them for primarily. Sometimes I pop my hair in a bun with one when it’s damp, and the next morning I’m left with a kink in my hair which I’m quite fond of.

Ok last favourite from me this month, the Elf Daily Brush Cleanser.

Elf Daily Brush Cleanser

I literally have this for god knows how long tucked away in a drawer collecting dust. I just forgot about it. It’s so important to clean your makeup brushes. Like everyone I don’t always remember to deep clean them and then I run out of clean ones andΒ  I have to clean them all together. It’s a boring job that I don’t think anyone enjoys. Something like the Elf Cleanser is great to have because it is anti bacterial so after you use a brush you can spray it and wipe it clean in a tissue so it’s clean and germ free for your next application. The brush dries much quicker so you don’t have to wait around like you do when you deep clean them. It’s great for that in between stage before your big clean is due, and Elf is so affordable AND this stuff smells great too which is an added bonus πŸ™‚

So there you go, some of my loves from the month of July. I know I cheated a little with the perfume, don’t judge me too much.

As always thanks for reading and have a fantastical September.

Birthday

So I turned another year older not too long ago, 29 to be exact. One step closer to 30 Arrrgggghhhhh, no I’m not worried about that in the slightest πŸ˜›

My lovely friends and family were very kind to me (and I was a bit kind to myself too) so thought you might want to nose at what I got, perhaps for some shopping inspiration or just to window shop.

First up, is my main pressie from the boyfriend, I dropped many a hint for these.

Raybans

These are the Rayban Clubmasters. I am a sunglasses junkie and have wanted these for ages.

Rayban Clubmasters

I am going through a bit of a 90’s phase at the minute as are alot of people and these sunnies fit right in with this πŸ™‚

Viktor&Rolf Flowerbomb

He also treated me to a fresh bottle of my very beloved fragrance Viktor&Rolf’s Flowerbomb. I love this perfume so much. It’s flowery and musky all at the same time, and lingers on your skin for ages, I think I will always have a bottle of this in my perfume collection.

Diptique Mimosa Candle

Out of some bday cash, I treated myself to another smelly item. This is Diptyque candle in the scent Mimosa. I am obsessed with this smell, it makes me happy, if you are ever in Brown Thomas or Spacenk, give your nostrils a treat and take a whiff. This is definitely not an everyday purchase, it set me back 50 quid, madness I know, but Diptyque candles burn beautifully and the scent really fills the room, so I do think you get your money’s worth out of them.

Ted Baker Mint Makeup Bag

I got this gorgeous mint green Ted Baker makeupbag for my handbag, I couldn’t resist. BT2 were having a sale and I picked up this little beauty for 21 euro. Don’t think that’s too bad at all, and it fits perfectly into my handbag.

I bought some posh bits of makeup to add to my every growing collection.

By Terry

I have been after this for ages and it’s always out of stock, so when Spacenk opened in Grafton Street, and they had it I literally jumped on it. This is the very coveted By Terry Ombre Blackstar in Misty Rock.

Misty Rock

This is my second Ombre Blackstar I have Bronze Moon too which I absolutely adore. This one however, I think is going to be my favourite. It is the prettiest mauvey purple colour, that shimmers in the light, and nearly looks wet on your eyelids. It may need its own blogpost soon πŸ™‚

Another makeup wish was granted from the new Spacenk.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder Palette

This is the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. Hourglass do these setting and highlighting powders separately but to be able to get them in a palette form really makes me happy as you can have the 3 of them in 1.

Hourglass

Hourglass palette

There is 3 setting/highlighting powders in the palette. Dim Light, Incandescent Light and Radiant Light. Again this product may need it’s very own blogpost soon πŸ™‚

I bought some Boots in Office while out on my Birthday travels.

Office Boots

Office Black Boots

These cut out boots were on the sale rack and I couldn’t resist. I think they’ll work for hot and cold weather aswell as with dresses and trousers. At 46 euro I think they were a bargain and I will get a lot of wear from them.

The last thing I bought I really feel bullied into. Everyone is obsessed with this palette and won’t stop talking about…so well I had to invest πŸ˜›

Lorac Pro Palette

I won’t waffle on too much about it because I had to buy it on eBay and it hasn’t come yet, but the internet is ripe with blogposts about how fab it is.

I should probably leave it there and stop milking the birthday, think I’m a bit old for that now πŸ™‚

If you have any of these be sure to let me know what you think. I love your feedback.

Thanks,

Gemma
