I have begun to do monthly favourites again on Beautynook a while ago now and am really enjoying it. It makes me extra conscious of products I continually pick up.

So, I thought I would start doing just general favourites too. Monthly ones can be for makeup, skincare and anything in between. These posts will be a little more theme driven. Hope that’s ok ๐Ÿ™‚
So here’s five budget makeup products that have really been floating my beauty boat at the moment.

Budget Makeup Favourites

  1. The Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer.

Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer

Excuse the appearance of mine, unfortunately the writing on the tube doesn’t withstand much…touching really :p

irish beauy blog

I used this years ago when it was all the rage and then just forgot to ever repurchase it, once I became a full on makeup fiend. Why, I don’t know, because it’s a bloomin’ good!

irish beauty blogger

I have the shade ‘Fair 1’ which brightens up my pale complexion really well.

top irish beauty blogtop irish beauty blogger

I do use this on it’s own and it works well. It has good coverage. But, most of the time I like to layer it over my Urban Decay Naked Concealer (I’ve a full review of this here). The Naked Concealer I have is too dark for me, so layering them on top of each other gives me hardcore under eye coverage and some brightness too. The consistency of the Lasting Perfection is really easy to blend so it’s works really well for layering. It’s a gem of a product. You can buy it from Boots here and it’ll set you back โ‚ฌ5.79, not bad at all, right?

2. My second budget makeup favourite is what I use to apply the concealer with. It’s the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. Again, mine has seen better days. But it means I do actually use it…alot!

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

I’ve had a Beauty Blender in my stash since we were first able to get our hands on them here in Ireland and I do really love it. In in my humble opinion though, the Miracle Complexion Sponge is just as good! It melts both cream and powder products into the skin so you’re never left with cake face. And as an oily skinned gal who loves her powders for longevity, this is awesome for me.

I also love that it has a flat end and a more pointed end because it caters to all contours of the face.

I’ve also jumped onto the ‘baking’ bangwagon of late, so this is perfect for applying powder under the eyes too. In fact, other than blush and of course whatever I apply on my eyes, I can pretty much do my whole face with this. My poor brushes don’t know what to do with themselves. I’ve just been having a real moment with my sponges ๐Ÿ™‚ The Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge is โ‚ฌ7.99 here from Boots. They also come in a double pack here too for โ‚ฌ14.99.

3. This is another product I picked up first years ago, loved and then forgot about. This is the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer.

maybelline baby skin primer

This is very much the stereotypical silicone primer so it’s definitely a love hate thing. For me and my skin it work really well.

irish beauty websitetop irish beauty website

I have large pores, so I need a primer that will glide over them and make them less visible. It has a matte finish too. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a miracle worker or anything like that. But it does the job of holding onto my makeup for longer and gives a smoother base to work on top of. It’s something I’ve repurchased many times over the years and have never regretted it. It’s โ‚ฌ11.49 again from Boots here.

4. Number 4 on my budget makeup list is the H&M ‘Sheer Tan’ Solar Flair Bronzing Powder.

h&M Sheer Tan BronzerH&M beauty

When I was in Oslo at the start of the year, I picked up lots of products from the H&M beauty line. Some just didn’t cut the mustard for me at all. This bronzer however, has remained in my everyday makeup stash and I reach for it alot.

H&M makeup

As the name would suggest it gives a sheer pop of colour.

budget makeup favourites

It’s has kind of a satin finish to it, but no shimmer or shine. it is really finely milled, so blends really smoothly and naturally onto the skin. Their bronzers come in 6 shades so there’s one to suit all and they cost โ‚ฌ7.99. We can actually shop online from H&M now so here’s a link if you fancy a nose too ๐Ÿ™‚

5. My last favourite is a new one to me, and the first product I’ve ever used from the Freedom brand. This is their Duo Brow Powder’.

freedom duo brow powder

They look really similar to the Anastasia Brow Duos, right?

freedom brow duo soft brown

I bought this on a whim from the Superdrug website. I did a quick google for colour swatches and thank god for fellow bloggers out there because it worked out really well for me. This is in the shade ‘Soft Brown’.

budge makeup

I use the lighter shade to fill in my brows either on it’s own or over pencil, depending on the day. Then, the darker shade it great for adding dimension or filling in any gaps.

Budget Makeup Favourites_3224

The powders aren’t super opaque in colour when you swatch them, which would have put me off buying one in store.

This is weirdly why I am enjoying them so much though. It actually means I don’t go over the top filling in my brows so they end up looking somewhat natural ๐Ÿ™‚ You can buy them from Superdrug online here and they cost ยฃ3.

There you have it! Five Budget Makeup Favourites from me. These are products that I am using pretty much everyday right now and loving.

The Maybelline Bricks Bronzer is a new addition to the Maybelline stand. They are on fire at the minute with releases and are constantly updating which is really brilliant! So here are all the deets on this new release and my honest first impressions too!

Maybelline Bricks BronzerThe Maybelline Bricks Bronzer seems to only come is one shade 01 Blondes. You get 7 grams of product within the palette.

irish beauty blogMaybelline describe is as their ‘all in one bronzing palette’ as it has a matte bronzer on one side. And then a shimmery more colourful side on the other.

top irish beauty blog

The packaging on this palette is a bit pants in my opinion. It’s really old school hollow plastic with a clear lid and just doesn’t do anything for me really.

So let’s give both sides a swatch and see how they far on the skin, shall we? ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m going to dig into the matte shade first.

top irish beauty bloggerHere it is swatched with my finger on one side and then blended into the skin with a brush on the other.

It’s a warm and not very pigmented bronzer. You really have to build it up.

top blogger irelandThen here’s the shimmery part of the Maybelline Bricks Bronzer.

beauty blog IrelandAnd again swatched with my finger on one side and blended with a brush on the other.

The shimmery side is kind of underwhelming too. It’s more pink than bronze which is not surprising really looking at it in the pan. Once it’s blended out on the skin, it gives very little pay off.

beauty blogger irelandBoth sides are a little powdery too. This is the pan, after I finished swatching.

Overall, I just think it’s ok, nothing to be too excited about!

I picked up the Maybelline Bricks Bronzer in Boots, but it doesn’t seem to be listed on the website yet which is a bit of a pain! It cost me โ‚ฌ11.49 which isn’t particularly cheap I know! Here’s a link to it on the Superdrug site in case you want to see any more information on it.

Would it float your bronzing boat? Let me know ๐Ÿ™‚

This is a follow on from my last post all about the L’Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation. I went into more detail there about cushion foundations and how they work and gave a review and demo on it, so if you want to know about that just click on the link here, and you can have a read. This post is going to be about L’Oreal’s second cushion offering though, the L’Oreal Glam Bronze Cushion De Soleil.

L'Oreal Glam Bronze Cushion De SoleilThis is pretty much (as I am sure you guessed) a liquid bronzer in cushion form.

It comes packed in the same way as the foundation.

top beauty blog irelandYou get a applicator sponge on the top layer, and then there’s an airtight cover over the actual product to help keep out bacteria and so it won’t dry out.

L'Oreal Glam Bronze Cushion De Soleil_2550Also like the foundation, the L’Oreal Glam Bronze Cushion De Soleil is a water based product and deemed a ‘fresh glow bronzer’ by L’Oreal.

I am been really enjoying using this. Again, l am a rebel and don’t really use the sponge applicator that comes with to apply. The sponge works fine and is great for on the go, it also has rubber backing so the product doesn’t soak right through.

The bronzer is matte and warm in colour. It only comes in one shade as of yet, which is a bit of a bummer. Hopefully L’Oreal will bring out some more shades to suit darker skin tones.

top beauty blogger irelandL'Oreal Cream Bronzer swatchThe formula is really smooth and it blends really lovely into the skin. It also layers up really nicely if you are looking for a more sun kissed look.

Here it is applied to my skin over the L’Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Foundation.

I apply it with my foundation brush (or sponge) onto the high points of my face.

So, my ginormous forehead.

top irish beauty bloggerAnd then, I apply a little under my jawline too to create a little bit of shadow. I like to think it helps a bit with the roundness of my face….I don’t know if it really does though…but sure look ๐Ÿ™‚

irish beauty bloggerI usually apply two layers of the L’Oreal Glam Bronze Cushion De Soleil to my skin. This warms up my complexion a little, but still leaves it looking somewhat natural. It gives a warmth but doesn’t look orange in my opinion at all and it dries down to a satin finish that’s very similar to the foundation. They work really well together.

beauty blogIt doesn’t contain SPF like the foundation though, I think that’s worth mentioning! I find myself using the cushion bronzer on a daily basis of late and skipping the powder bronzer. I am just really enjoying the natural finish it gives and how easy it is to apply. You can’t really go overboard with it unless you really keep layering product up.

Do I think it will change your makeup life? No, not at all. It’s a lovely product and a bit novel in the fact that it’s in a cushion formula, but I don’t think you necessarily have to go out and pay โ‚ฌ22 for it. That of course, like everything is just my opinion ๐Ÿ™‚

You can pick up the L’Oreal Glam Bronze Cushion De Soleil in store from Boots or from their website here.

Let me know what you think.

I have the Sleek Cream Contour Kit in my possession a while now.

Sleek Cream Contour Kit

I have the shade light.

Sleek Cream Contour Kit Review

I was kindly gifted this at a masterclass showing us bloggers how to use the Sleek Cream Contour Kit. I knew it was in high demand and everyone wanted to see it in action, so I embarrassingly rummaged through a few of the very generous gift bags making sure I got the lightest palette because I thought since I have lighter skin this would be the best one for me…dedication to blogging right there! ๐Ÿ™‚

Unfortunately, some of the colours don’t seem to really work for me in the way I want them too, so I’ve been putting off talking about it. Some of you lovely lot have been asking me my thoughts on it though, so here they are ๐Ÿ™‚

There are three Sleek Cream Contour Kits to choose from light, medium and dark. They all contain 6 cream contour shades ranging in colours to highlight, contour and give definition to the face.

irish beauty blogtop irish beauty blogtop irish beauty blogger

The texture of the product is really nice. They are creamy to the touch and they do blend into the skin quite well. They also don’t leave the skin feeling or looking to greasy which is an added bonus too.

Here are the colours in the light palette swatched from left to right on my arm.

Without Flash

And then blended out a little with my fingers.

irish beauty websiteI will be completely honest, and if you’ve been reading Beautynook for a while, you’ll know I’m a big Sleek fan, but I wanted so much more for the palette…

According to Sleek, the shades work as follows:

  • Shade 1 โ€“ highlighting
  • Shade 2 โ€“ deeper highlighting
  • Shade 3 โ€“ concealing / blending contouring
  • Shade 4 โ€“ contouring or adding subtle contouring effect
  • Shade 5 โ€“ creating the illusion of shadow
  • Shade 6 โ€“ adding deeper shadow effects

That sounds a bit overwhelming if you’re not super into your makeup I know, but this is just a guide line of course and they give you an insert with the palette to show you were to place the colours if you want to use them in this fashion. I personally love a bit of contouring and highlighting but I wouldn’t be this dedicated and less face it, my chubby chops need more than some cream contouring to look chiselled ๐Ÿ™‚

Here it is in action on my face.

I used shade 3 to conceal under my eyes and then shade 1 to highlight, shade 5 around the periphery of my face and then shade 6 under my cheekbones.

Close up

The lighter shades don’t really lift my skin or give any major coverage once blended in. The darkness under my eyes still comes through. I would have to conceal separately before using the palette. They also cake up on my skin slightly too. The three darker contouring shades are just too warm for me to use as contour, although I have used the darker shade a few times more as a cream bronzer and it works well.

Overall, I think the formula is of the Sleek Cream Contour Kit is one of the best on the ‘highstreet’ market that I’ve used to date yet, but the colours (of the light kit anyways) and the coverage of the lighter shades just don’t float my boat ๐Ÿ™

You can get the Sleek Cream Contour Kit from Boots, pharmacies nationwide and Cloud10beauty stock it online here too. It will set you back a reasonable โ‚ฌ13.95.

Have you used it? Am I being overly critical? Let me know?

So many of you told me you love watching Get Ready With Me style videos. I love watching them too (not my own though if I’m being honest ha) So here’s a Spring Makeup one, where I am basically applying a face of makeup that I would wear for a Spring day/early evening. Myself and himself were off for some Friday eats this day so I thought it would be a appropriate because I was actually doing my makeup to go somewhere, not just for the sake of filming ๐Ÿ™‚

This is more of a talk through style video, which I still haven’t completely mastered, words still elude me ๐Ÿ™‚ But I thought I would give it a whirl and sure don’t they say practice makes perfect, right?

Irish beauty blogI used a mixture of more affordable and more high end makeup which is a true representation of my normal makeup routine. I like to mix it up ๐Ÿ™‚

I seem to be talking about Makeup Revolution alot lately. Not intentionally, I assure you, I just happened to pick up some bits from them and have been using them over the last while ๐Ÿ™‚

This is the Makeup Revolution Ultra Contour Palette.

makeup revolution ultra contour palette

Budget brands are finally warming up to the idea of giving up all our contour and highlight needs under one lid. My first experience of powder contour palettes was a few years back when I picked up the Anastasia Beverley Hills Contour Kit from Cult Beauty. I reviewed this so long ago here (the pictures are brutal, I apologise), but it’s still one of my most viewed posts to this day.

Makeup Revolution as a brand, for me can be hit or miss, but I think overall their Ultra Contour Palette, in my humble opinion is a hit! I have been reaching for it pretty much daily over the past couple of months.

In the Makeup Revolution Ultra Contour Palette, you get eight shades, and a large mirror which is always handy.

And finally a champagne shimmery baked highlight shade.

makeup and beauty blog irelandirish makeup and beauty websiteHere they all are together too.

All of the powders are pigmented and soft to the touch.

They blend onto the skin easily and I have had no problem with lasting power either. I use the yellow tone under my eyes to help counteract darkness, and the beige toned matte powder over the top to neutralise the colour. This is a great shade for cleaning up your contour too, or just as a general all over setting powder. I use the cool toned brown shade in the middle to contour and then for me, the others brown colours are more for warming up my skin, although I actually tend to use these more on my eyes as eyeshadows. I love using the highlights in the palette as eyeshadows as well as using them for highlighting the face.

Overall, the Makeup Revolution Ultra Contour Palette gets a big thumbs up from me. I get so much use from it.

I got mine from Superdrug here in Dublin and it cost me โ‚ฌ9.99, but you can also buy it online from the Makeup Revolution website here or from the Superdrug website here.

Now I just need to pick up the Nyx version to compare them ๐Ÿ˜›
