I cannot believe I’ve never talked about the Revlon Colorstay Foundation here on Beautynook. It’s one of the most popular foundations on the market and it was probably one of the first to come out in different formulas to cater for more drier and more oily skin types.

Revlon Ireland

I have oily skin so I of course use the Revlon Colorstay foundation in the combination/oily skin formula. Both formulas have an spf of 15. I have here, what I believe is the lightest shade they do ‘110 Ivory’.

Revlon Colorstay Foundation

This is a tad to light for me in the summer months, but in the winter it matches pretty well. I have tan on in the swatches here which looks a bit ridiculous, but I think it also shows the coverage that the Revlon Colorstay Foundation actually has too.

It has a pretty thick consistency and can be a bit harder to blend into the skin than some other foundations out there. Revlon finally revamped the bottle though and gave us a pump which is awesome. It’s been a long time coming.

Revlon Colorstay Foundation

When it was first released you just had to dump the product on something and hope for the best.

For me, the Revlon Colorstay foundation has pretty much full coverage.

Here’s my skin before application:

And here it is after:

I just used a kabuki brush to blend it into the skin.

You can definitely feel this foundation on your skin, it sits on top of it and is visible. The longevity is good and if you have any breakouts or imperfections it will cover them well so you won’t need as much concealer.

Two even three years ago if someone asked me for a more affordable oily skin foundation recommendation, the Revlon Colourstay would have been it no questions asked. However, I think brands have come along way with foundation formulas and we have more options out there now. As I get older, although I still get breakouts so want decent coverage and of course I want good staying power, I also want my skin to be able to breath somewhat and I don’t think Colorstay really allows that. I prefer to apply it with a damp sponge myself, it makes it look less cakey and noticeable on my skin. I end up usually mixing it with other foundations if I want to lighten them or bulk up the coverage. I rarely reach for it to use on it’s own.

So there you go, there’s my two cents on the cult classic that is the Revlon Colorstay Foundation. Is it still your holy grail?

You can buy online here or in store from Boots and it will set you back โ‚ฌ18.99.

theBalm Meet Matte Nude Palette caused alot of hype when it was first released. As far as I know this is the first palette in the Meet Matte collection, the second was Meet Matte Trimony which is a selection of mattes more on the burgundy side . I picked this palette up from the Makeup Forever Store here in Dublin. They had both palettes but I ended up going for Mr Nude…… ๐Ÿ™‚

theBalm Meet Matte Nude

ย theBalm say ‘You’ve met Matt(e), now it’s time to Meet Matt(e) Nudeโ€ฆnude eyeshadows that is. Because size matt(e)rs, there are nine larger Matt(e)s showing their true colors in nude hues. As a matt(e)r of fact, this palette is versatile enough to wear day and night, as liners and as all-over colors…the whole 9 yards! With so many guys to choose from, you’re sure to find your perfect shade, no matt(e)r what!’

theBalm Meet Matte NudeThe packaging as with all theBalm products is adorable. It’s sturdy enough cardboard with a magnetic closing.

You get a really decent sized mirror too.

There’s nine eyeshadows in the palette totally 25.5 grams of product.

theBalm irelandIn my opinion, the shades are a good mix of warm-ish and cool-ish tones, so the palette is quite versatile.

Onto the swatching, the bit we all come to see ๐Ÿ™‚

So there you have it. theBalm Meet Matte Nude in all it’s glory. Overall, I think it’s a really nice palette. Some of the shades are a little more powdery than others, making them a bit harder to work with, bit I think I will get alot of use out of it overall.

As I said, I bought it in the Makeup Forever store in Clarendon street here in Dublin, but if you are looking to buy online, you can find it here from Cloud10beauty. It will set you back โ‚ฌ44. theBalm is much cheaper in America unfortunately, it seems to be marked up here in Europe quite alot ๐Ÿ™

I have the Sleek Cream Contour Kit in my possession a while now.

Sleek Cream Contour Kit

I have the shade light.

Sleek Cream Contour Kit Review

I was kindly gifted this at a masterclass showing us bloggers how to use the Sleek Cream Contour Kit. I knew it was in high demand and everyone wanted to see it in action, so I embarrassingly rummaged through a few of the very generous gift bags making sure I got the lightest palette because I thought since I have lighter skin this would be the best one for me…dedication to blogging right there! ๐Ÿ™‚

Unfortunately, some of the colours don’t seem to really work for me in the way I want them too, so I’ve been putting off talking about it. Some of you lovely lot have been asking me my thoughts on it though, so here they are ๐Ÿ™‚

There are three Sleek Cream Contour Kits to choose from light, medium and dark. They all contain 6 cream contour shades ranging in colours to highlight, contour and give definition to the face.

irish beauty blogtop irish beauty blogtop irish beauty blogger

The texture of the product is really nice. They are creamy to the touch and they do blend into the skin quite well. They also don’t leave the skin feeling or looking to greasy which is an added bonus too.

Here are the colours in the light palette swatched from left to right on my arm.

And then blended out a little with my fingers.

irish beauty websiteI will be completely honest, and if you’ve been reading Beautynook for a while, you’ll know I’m a big Sleek fan, but I wanted so much more for the palette…

According to Sleek, the shades work as follows:

  • Shade 1 โ€“ highlighting
  • Shade 2 โ€“ deeper highlighting
  • Shade 3 โ€“ concealing / blending contouring
  • Shade 4 โ€“ contouring or adding subtle contouring effect
  • Shade 5 โ€“ creating the illusion of shadow
  • Shade 6 โ€“ adding deeper shadow effects

That sounds a bit overwhelming if you’re not super into your makeup I know, but this is just a guide line of course and they give you an insert with the palette to show you were to place the colours if you want to use them in this fashion. I personally love a bit of contouring and highlighting but I wouldn’t be this dedicated and less face it, my chubby chops need more than some cream contouring to look chiselled ๐Ÿ™‚

Here it is in action on my face.

I used shade 3 to conceal under my eyes and then shade 1 to highlight, shade 5 around the periphery of my face and then shade 6 under my cheekbones.

Close up

The lighter shades don’t really lift my skin or give any major coverage once blended in. The darkness under my eyes still comes through. I would have to conceal separately before using the palette. They also cake up on my skin slightly too. The three darker contouring shades are just too warm for me to use as contour, although I have used the darker shade a few times more as a cream bronzer and it works well.

Overall, I think the formula is of the Sleek Cream Contour Kit is one of the best on the ‘highstreet’ market that I’ve used to date yet, but the colours (of the light kit anyways) and the coverage of the lighter shades just don’t float my boat ๐Ÿ™

You can get the Sleek Cream Contour Kit from Boots, pharmacies nationwide and Cloud10beauty stock it online here too. It will set you back a reasonable โ‚ฌ13.95.

Have you used it? Am I being overly critical? Let me know?

Smoky eye looks don’t have to be difficult. If you have patience and are willing to blend, you can do it! You don’t have to beย  a professional makeup artist to create it, I’m definitely not. It also doesn’t have to be black, it can literally be any colour you want it to be.

What I would normally use to create a simple smoky eye is:

  1. A cream shadow
  2. A powder eyeshadow in the same or a similar colour.
  3. An eyeliner (something waterproof).
  4. A brush to pack colour on and a couple of blending brushes to..blend ๐Ÿ™‚
  5. A warm shadow (or a bronzer even) for the crease.
  6. I use a taupe shade in the crease too, but that’s optional
  7. A highlight shade for the brow bone and inner corner.
  8. Mascara and or lashes.
  9. Patience ๐Ÿ™‚

There will probably be alot of fallout when you pack dark colours onto the lid, so I suggest doing your foundation or at least your concealer after you finish the eyes.

I did throw on a bit of foundation, did my brows, primed my lids and set them with powder beforehand.

I first grabbed one on the Maybelline Color Tattos in ‘Timeless Black’. I forgot how much I love these!

I applied a good amount of this all over my lid with a synthetic brush.

I used the sparkly black from my Pro Collection Palette from Fuschia Makeup.

On a blending brush, I took some of this taupe shade, again from the Fuschia Pro Collection.

fuschia pro collectionI blended this into the crease of my eye, bringing the black into it to help soften the edges.

Smoky Eye Makeup Tutorial (9)To add a bit of warmth on a clean brush, I took some of the matte contour shade from the Seventeen Define & Conquer Contour Palette ( I have a full review of this here).

seventeen define & conquerI applied this over the taupe shade in the crease of my eyes with a tapered blending brush.

easy smoky eye makeupI think smoky eyes are all about layering and light continuous blending. Just take your time.

To help the blending process even more, I took a bone matte shade (again from the Fushcia pro collection).

I have been talking alot about affordable makeup of late and I am LOVING it! It’s so great budget friendly brands are stepping up to the plate and bringing out products that we we are excited to use and talk about all the time!

This blogpost is going to be all about two of the three palettes Essence brought out not too long ago.

Essence All About Greys and All About Nudes Eyeshadow Palette (2)

The first one is the Essence ‘All About Greys’ palette.

Essence All About GreysI picked this up the same day I got the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette. It obviously doesn’t have as many shade choices but I just thought the colouring was similar so it could be a cheaper alternative.

So as you can see, there is eight shades in total. They are all cool toned and they all lend themselves to a dark and grey smoky eye just like the Naked Smoky.

They are all shimmery shades, except for the white on the top far left and the black on the top far right, so I do think if you are doing a look with this palette you do need some sort of matte transitional shade to help you along your way, even if you just use your bronzer. The shadows themselves are pigmented, they are soft to the touch, and they do blend, although it will take you a while to do it. Here they are swatched below:

Bottom Line

So what about the Essence ‘All About Nudes’ version of the palette?

Essence All About Nudes

These shades are much warmer, and I think personally it’s generally a more wearable palette.

There’s more mattes within the eight shadows in this one, so you’re less likely to need another palette to help you along if you are creating a look with it.

Here they are swatched below:

irish beauty blog beautynook

Top Line

beauty blog reviewOverall, I think these palettes are pretty awesome for their โ‚ฌ4.99 price tag. I will say if your lids are in any way oily, you’ll need a primer no doubt about it. I think the shadows do need to be worked with more than maybe some other ones on the market. Some of the shades (particularly the shimmers) actually go on so much nicer and vibrant with your finger or a damp brush, but I think this tip helps with alot of shadows we may own so I don’t hold that against Essence too much. There is fall out, so be weary of that too when applying.

I mix and match these palettes with others I have in my collection, but they do get used and I do reach for them.

There is another palette in this ‘All About’ range that is more bronzed and that looks really nice too, if you prefer a more bronzey look. After playing with these two, I would be more than happy to fork out a fiver for that one too!

As always thanks for reading and I hoped this helped if you were undecided ๐Ÿ™‚

seventeen stare struck blush

I thought I would review my Seventeen Cheek Stamp that I picked up in Boots a while back along with their Define and Contour Kit that I reviewed here

I got the shade “Stare Struck”.

seventeen blush boots

It is a lovely dusky pink with a light silvery shimmer going through it. As you can see the powder blush is in the base of the packaging. The lid itself is a spring loaded sponge, so when you close the lid the sponge sits on the blush and is pre loaded with product for you when you open it.

cheek stampThe lid also sports a mirror which is always a handy addition to any makeup product. Of course you can just use the product itself with a blush brush, if you don’t like the sponge applicator that comes with.

If you stamp the blush onto your skin, you are going to get a little something that looks like this.

seventeen cheek stampVery Aunt Sally don’t you think? ๐Ÿ™‚ Don’t worry though it’s powder so you can just blend it in with your fingers or a brush and you will be left with a colour that looks something like this.

stare struch swatch blendedcheek stamp swatch blended

It is a really pigmented product and blends really well into the skin, leaving behind a lovely flush of blush on the cheeks, that lasts throughout the day too.

Overall, I really like the Seventeen Cheek Stamp. I love the colour of this one “Stare Struck”, there is a choice of five colours in the collection though. I like the idea of the stamp mechanism as it makes it more portable and easy to throw in your handbag. And lets face it, it’s really cute too ๐Ÿ™‚

The Seventeen Cheek Stamp retail for โ‚ฌ6.29, and you can pick it up in Boots

What do you think?
