I picked up the Rimmel Fresher Skin Foundation on a whim really.

rimmel fresher skin foundation

I came across it while I was having a nose around Meagher’s Pharmacy and it was on special. Sure the rest is history šŸ™‚

Rimmel fresher skin foundation

The Boots website describe the Rimmel Fresher Skin Foundation as: ‘A revolution in lightweight foundation. Fresher Skin Foundation offers light breathable coverage for an even, natural-looking, fresh finish that stays shine-free all day. The ultra-smooth texture is easy to apply & blends perfectly, for a barely there feel that does not clog pores and lets skin breathe. Formula with mineral powders helps absorb excess oil preventing shine, while the formula with Aloe, Chamomile & Sea Algae extracts help reduce the appearance of redness and evens out natural skin tone. For a freshly applied natural-look and feel, shine-free throughout the day!’

Off the bat, the packaging of it doesn’t really float my boat. It comes in a 25 ml glass jar.

rimmel fresher skin foundation review

It means you can get every bit of the product out, which is a pro. But, it also means you have to dip your finger into the jar to get the product out. Ideally, you would use a spatula or something, but ain’t all of us got time for that šŸ™‚

The formula is like a thick gel. I’ve read that the formula was developed in Japan and this is the first time it is has been used in the colour cosmetics industry. I thought that was an interesting fact to add it šŸ™‚

It is firm to the touch, but then as you blend it, it does thin down. However, it dries super quickly, so you have to work fast with it. I find using a damp beauty sponge the best way to apply it on me personally.

Here it is in action on my skin:

It gives a light coverage to the skin, you can build it up to light medium coverage though. I usually apply a couple of layers. It contains SPF 15 and it has the strong sweet scent to it that will be familiar to you if use or have used Rimmel foundations.

Here is my makeup for that day completed just to give you an idea:

I’ve heard mixed reviews about the Rimmel Fresher Skin Foundation. For me, as someone with oily skin, using the damp sponge gives it a more satin finish. I like the coverage it gives for lighter makeup days. I find it glides over larger pores that sometimes lighter coverage foundations don’t always do for me.

The staying power on my skin is pretty good. I always use primer and powder regardless of the foundation I am using. This is me after about five hours of wear. I have definite shine, but no makeup breakdown.

Overall, I quite like it. The jar isn’t ideal but the foundation itself I like. I have the colour 100 Ivory, the second lightest shade. It matches my skin really well. It does come in six colour choices though.

You can buy the Rimmel Fresher Skin from Boots in store and online here for ā‚¬10.49. I did buy it from Meagher’s Pharmacy on special for, I believe ā‚¬6.95, which is a much better price.

I am always on the lookout for brilliant budget beauty buys. (yes I love that all of the words begin with b, not gonna lie :)) Rather than do monthly faves, I think I might do posts like this so often for budget and non budget beauty. Let me know what you think?

First up in my budget beauty list is:

My very beloved Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Foundation.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude FoundationI won’t bore you with the details. I waffle about this foundation all the time and have a full review here. This stuff just does it for me. I love the finish, the longevity, it wears really well on my oily skin and the coverage. It will set you back ā‚¬9.99 in Boots so at a smidgen under a tenner, not a bad price point at all.

Next up on budget friendly rambles are these Catrice Liquid Metal Eyeshadows.

budget beauty catriceI think Catrice have nine colours to choose from in the Liquid Metal range. I have three of them and they get alot of use from me.

100 What do you see?

irish beauty bloggerThese little pots are really pigmented, go on without any fuss and when dampened pack even more punch. I love shadows like this because you can create a really cool eye look without any effort. Not sure of the exact price on the Liquid Metal Shadows but I know they cost less than 4 euro a piece.

Another Catrice fave in my budget beauty stash is their Liquid Camouflage concealer.

catrice liquid camouflageirish beauty blogI go into more detail and demo this here. It’s such a fab purse friendly full coverage concealer that works well under the eyes and around the face. A must have in your makeup drawer in my opinion, and with it being ā‚¬3.99, I don’t feel guilty saying that šŸ™‚

These Penneys lashes need no introduction, they have taken on a life of their own in the beauty world it seems.

penneys lashesThey are so handy to have around when you are looking to add a little something more to a look. They would be described as individual lashes, unlike other individual lashes they have three clusters on one band, which for me takes way less faffing about.

penneys individual lashesYou can add just one of these to your outer lashes and be good to go. And the best part it? They cost ā‚¬1.50! You wouldn’t even get a coffee for that nowadays (in Dublin at least) and you get glue included for that price too. Score!

The Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof mascara is a rediscovery for me.

budget beauty mascarairish beauty blogI got it a while back and loved it, even gave it a full review here. Then, I started having a thing with the Catrice Glam & Doll mascara (full review here) and I forgot about it for a while. I pulled it out the other week more to see if it was time to bin it or not and gave it one last whirl. I swear it’s an even better mascara now after drying out in the drawer for a couple of months! Might buy another one and just leave it in the dark for a while šŸ™‚ I picked this up in Boots for ā‚¬11.99. Not the cheapest mascara in the world, but still a decent price I reckon, and they’re always doing offers on it.

I have been loving this Essence No Makeup Look Nail Polish in Powdery Nude so much of late.

beauty blog irelandIf you just be couldn’t be bothered doing your nails, but want them to look decent, this is such a great little find. I put a base coat on, add two layers of this and I’m done.

essence nail polishIt dries really quickly and has a cool powdery finish to it so adding a top coat would take away from that. And it lasts really well on the nails. I can get around four days out of it before it starts to move, that’s not bad at all. I picked this up in Penneys and it cost me less than ā‚¬3.

I have an oldie but a goodie next. The Sleek Face Form Contouring And Blush Palette.

sleek contour irelandI brought this to Oslo with me and it’s made me fall in love with it all over again. This is the light version of the palette and you get a contour shade, a highlighter and a blush, all for ā‚¬9.99.

beauty blogger irelandNot a bad deal whatsoever. Sleek is such a great brand! The shades double up as eyeshadows as well which is great for travelling.

This Flormar Bronzing Powder is huge and this is one of the reasons what I love it. It will last you a life time.

flormar ireland

It’s also a really nice soft bronzer though. It has a really faint glitter running through it, but it doesn’t translate too much when on the skin.

makeup and beauty blog irelandirish beauty blogThe fact it’s so big means you can use a huge brush to apply it so it’s quick, easy and great for bronzing up the body too. A firm budget beauty fave in my collection. You can actually buy Flormar online here from Simplyfoxy. It will set you back ā‚¬9.99.

My last favourite of the minute is Botanics Soothing Eye Makeup Remover.

botanics irelandI am a waterproof mascara junkie, and this does a fab job of removing every scrap of it without irritating or dragging my eyes. It’s an oil in water solution, so you just have to give it a good shake before you use it to ensure the liquid is fully mixed. I apply it with a couple of cotton rounds, leave them on each eye for a couple of seconds and then wipe. It even remove Inglot Gel liner and doesn’t leave you with panda eyes the next morning. That’s impressive! At full price this will set you back ā‚¬5.99 from Boots, it’s always on special though so just keep a look out. I am a huge fan of the Botanics range, they do some brilliant skincare and haircare products, that are really reasonably priced.

There you have it, a run through of some of my budget beauty favourites of the moment. What’s your favourite purse friendly product? I’d love to know šŸ™‚

A Chatterbox Haul

Over the past couple of weeks I have picked up a few affordable makeup bits in between Christmas shopping for friends and family. I got some really nice goodies so I thought I would share them with you in case you need some shopping inspiration šŸ™‚

First up I went to Boots, one of my favourite places to be. The waft of perfume as you walk through the door just puts me in a good mood.

I picked up Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Nude foundation.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Foundation

This is a new version of their normal Lasting Finish which is a firm fave here at Chatterbox. This is a lighter version of it. It has a good medium coverage and an SPF of 20 which is great for an everyday foundation.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Nude Swatch

So far I have been loving this, it’s not cakey, the 100 Ivory shade is a good match for my pale skin and it has been lasting really well on my also oily skin. So far a good buy. This set me back ā‚¬8.99 in Boots

I got one of Maybelline’s new Color Tattoo Leather Effect Cream shadows to give a go next.

Maybelline Color Tattoo Leather Effect Vintage Plum 97

This is in the colour “Vintage Plum 97”.

I have so many of the Color Tattoos and love most of them. This one is nice, I really like the colour, it makes a great base for plum, brown or purple eye looks. It is matte with no shimmer in it at all. I cannot say it really looks like leather though.

Leather Effect Vintage Plum Swatch

The Color Tattoos are ā‚¬7.49 in Boots.

Another cream shadow creeped its way into my Boots basket…ooops šŸ™‚

Max Factor Excess Shimmer 25 Bronze

This is the Max Factor Excess Shimmer in “25 Bronze”. I am in love with this, let me tell you that from the getgo.

Oh my god the pigment is amazing, a tiny bit of this goes such a long way. The texture is so cool, it’s soft and nearly whipped to the touch unlike the Color Tattoos. It is so easy to blend also.

Max Factor excess shimmer bronze swatch

I can wear this just on its own without a shadow on top. I love the colour too, it’s bronze but with a coppery feel, right up my street.Ā  These cost ā‚¬9.99 from Boots

Last thing I picked up in Boots was the Maybelline Instant Anti-Age, The Eraser Eye in “Nude”.

Maybelline The Eraser Eye

This is a sponge applicator under eye concealer for cancelling out under eye circles.

The Eraser Eye Swatch

I’m on the fence about this product so far, I think I need to keep using it before I give a true opinion. It costs ā‚¬11.99

Soooo, then I did some damage over on Cloud 10 Beauty They had 20% off their whole site for black Friday, I could not resist!! I firstly picked up the cult product that is The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer.

The Balm Mary-Lou ManizerMary-Lou Manizer

So many of you told me I needed this over on social media, so thanks šŸ™‚ It is such a pretty gold toned highlighter. It is ridiculously shimmery but there is not lumpy sparkle in it which I think is what makes it so pretty and wearable.

Mary Lou-Manizer swatch

You don’t have to look like a disco ball to get a highlighted effect. You can pick this up from Cloud 10 for ā‚¬19.00

I picked up a Blank Canvas Cosmetics brush.

Blank Canvas Cosmetics E30 Brush

This is the E30 eyebrow brush. I wanted an angled eyebrow brush with a spooly on the end and this fit the bill, also the ends are purple how cute šŸ™‚ This cost me ā‚¬6.95

I got one of the Sleek Eye and Cheek Palette in “See You At Midnight 028”.

Sleek Eye & Cheek Palette See You At Midnight 028028 See You At Midnight

I have only gotten my hands on this today so I have yet to try it out properly, but on first look and swatch I really like it.

See You At Midnight Swatch

It is very winter appropriate. Plums, purple, cranberry and gold galore. There is two blush shades “Antique” in the top left corner and “Pomegranate” in the bottom right and then 4 eyeshadows from The Vintage Romance iDivine palette. Can’t wait to get stuck into it šŸ™‚ I think this is the best deal out of everything at ā‚¬12.95

I got another Sleek product from Cloud 10 Beauty.

Eau La La Liner Cocoa 327Cocoa 327

Another Eau La La Liner to add to my collection. This is the shade “Cocoa 327”. Nothing much to say about it, it’s a matte chocolate brown eyeliner.

Eau La La Liner Cocoa

I love these liners, I have them in so many colours, but not in dark brown so I picked one up. This will set you back ā‚¬5.99

I also got a couple of other random things so I thought I would throw them into the list too for good measure.

I got this when IĀ  was buying the other bits on Cloud 10.

Daniel Galvin Junior Hangover Hair

This is the Daniel Galvin Junior Hangover Hair. My hair needs a bit of TLC and this was cheap and organic so I thought I would give it a go, no real thought process there. I will report back if it is any good. It is ā‚¬4.49

Lastly, these are definitely not beauty based, but they are beautiful šŸ™‚

New Look Teach ShoesNew Look Asos Shoes

These are New Look heels that I ordered from Asos when they were having 20% off for black Friday. I just thought they were so festive and sparkly and also the heel is thick and respectable not a look I go for very often šŸ™‚ Full price, these are ā‚¬39.99, so not bad at all, I am sure I will get alot of use out of them over the festive season.

I think that’s it, if you have made it to the end of this let me know, I know it’s a rambly one šŸ™‚ Did you get any amazing bargains in the sales yet?

Thanks so much for reading and for the support.

Gemma
