New Years Eve Makeup

I know Christmas is what we’re probably looking forward to the most, but New Years Eve is a big occasion too right? So. I have here a New Years Eve Makeup Look I would happily rock on the faithful night. I went for a subtle glittery eye with a matte pink lip. I think this combo would work for any night out not just New Years but it’s nice to have an excuse 🙂

Base, brows and eyeshadow primer dunzo!

Then onto the good stuff, I’m using the Urban Decay Gwen Stefani Palette.

Isn’t she a beauty? I have a full review of it here if you want to see it up closer.

I grabbed the shade Stark to begin and added a wash of it to my crease just to makeup everything blend better on my lids.

To deepen the crease colour more I took some Anaheim and blended that over top.

To conceal any discolouration on the brow bone and lighten it, I applied some Skimp. It has a little bit of sheen to it but nothing too crazy.

Punk is one of my favourite colours in the palette.

I used a tapered brush to apply it on the outer v of my eyes, and blended it across my crease slightly.

To just add a base for the pigment, I patted some Baby over the rest of my lid.

And then some more blending happened 🙂

I don’t think this step was really necessary, because the pigment is more of a shadow than a glitter, but I did it so I’ll add it in.

I applied a really small amount of Duraline onto my eyelids (I have a full blogpost on Duraline here).

I pulled out Makeup Geek’s pigment in New Years Eve for a bit of festive sparkle and because it’s aptly named for a New Years Eve Makeup look 🙂

I applied this with a flat brush over where I placed the Duraline.

I just deepened up Punk in the outer corner then.

I used the colour Blackout, from the Gwen Stefani Palette to line my lash line because lashes have to happen…it’s New Years Eve Makeup. 🙂

I chose Ardell Demi 120 false lashes, I like that they flare out on the outer corners.

To hide the false lash band a bit more, I applied a line of liquid liner across them.

I concealed and then went onto the lower lash line. I added some of the Punk shade on the outer end of my eyes, the same as the top lid.

And then some Baby on the inner part.

Mascara time then.

I wanted to darken things up a little more so I tight lined with some black liner.

For some inner corner brightness, I used the shade Pop.

I wanted to go with a somewhat strong pink lip. I lined my lips first with Nyx Lip Pencil in Pinky.

I chose one of my favourite lip products the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in the colour Ole Flamingo.

I did some loose curls in my hair for the occasion and then we’re done 🙂

Makeup Geek is finally available on Irish shores without customs. Wohoo! I am a huge Makeup Geek fan and have been since Marlena first started releasing makeup. I have some eyeshadow swatches here if you want a closer look at some of them and some of their awesome pigments swatched here too.

Since Makeup Geek is finally easier to get a hold of. You can purchase it from Beautybay I thought I would pull some of my shadows out and do a festive look with them. I went with green as I thought it would be a great choice coming up to Christmas and I really like green on my hazel eyes. It works on pretty much all eye colours though.

As always I primed my lids and used Vanilla Bean all over my lid to set it.

Then I took Latte, a cool toned brown and used this to start defining my crease a little, with a fluffy brush.

Next I took the star of the show Envy.

I took a flat brush and packed this on the moving part of my lid up to the crease.

Then blended out the edged with the brush I used to apply Latte.

I wanted to warm things up a bit so I took the shade Cocoa Bear.

And applied this into the crease to blend everything together.

For a little pop of lightness on the lid, I added some Appletini.

I just used my finger and put a little bit on the middle of my lid.

Then, blended it into Envy with the flat brush I had already used.

I used some more Vanilla Bean on a fluffy brush, on my brow bone to just lighten it a little more. Vanilla Bean has some shimmer running through it but it’s really light.

So now you look like you got punched in the face, don’t worry we can fix that 🙂

To add some definition to the lash line, I took Makeup Geek’s black shade Corrupt.

With a bent liner brush, I did a thin line across the top lash line.

Now we can clean up the under eye, this part helps so much. Most times when you work with dark colours, you’ll get fall out and things can look so messy. I just used my foundation brush to clean up under my eyes.

Concealer time then, one of my favourite parts of makeup 🙂

I curled and added loads of mascara to my top lashes, then it’s time for the lower lash line.

I used Appletini first on a smudger brush just in the middle.

I then added envy to the inner and outer parts with the same brush and blended both colours together.

More mascara on the bottom lashes.

You could totally leave things like that then.

I wanted to add a bit more (as always). So I took Makeup Geek’s Shimma Shimma and added it onto my tear duct, blending it into the shadow on the inner corner of my eyes.

Lastly I took a black Kohl pencil. This is Urban Decay’s Perversion.

This went onto my upper and lower waterlines.

To make the Kohl pencil last a bit longer I added a bit of Makeup Geek Corrupt over the top just to lock it into place…and then we’re done! I kept the rest of my makeup really simple and just added a brown nude lip colour.

Party Look with Sleek Vintage Romance Palette

Sleek are such an awesome affordable brand. They do so many great eyeshadow palettes (amongst other things of course). The colour range and the choice of finishes are really second to none within the more ‘drugstore market’.

Today’s really easy (remember I’m not a makeup artist) look is courtesy of the Sleek Vintage Romance Palette. You can pick it up from Boots here.

I think this would make a great Christmas party makeup. The Vintage Romance palette offers great shades for bit of shimmer and a bit of smoke. This look would work well on a more hooded eye shape too as the concentration of colour is on the lash line.

I started out as always by priming my lids and adding a matte skin colour shadow over top.

I took some of the shade ‘Propose in Prague’, the only matte shade in the Vintage Romance Palette.

I applied a wash of this with a blending brush into my crease, just to add a little definition and give the lid colour something to blend into.

I then used the colour ‘Lust In LA’, which is a shimmery taupe.

I patted this with a flat shader brush all over my lid.

Then with a clean blending brush just did some window wiper motions to blend it into the crease colour 🙂

To smoke things up a little, I took some ‘Forever In Florence’. a dark purple shimmer.

I patted this quite thickly along my lash line.

This colour comes out much more purple over the ‘Lust In LA’ shade and I wanted it a little darker, so did the same thing again with the darkest shade in the palette ‘Love In London’.

I used a small more precise brush and kept the colour more to the lash line so ‘Forever In Florence’ is still visible.

If you lose some colour intensity you can just go back in and apply more of the colour.

I added some lashes and a slick of liquid liner to the band, totally optional of course, you can just do mascara by all means.

For the lower lash line I went a bit colourful, you can of course just add the darkest shade to smoke things out more and or just leave bare and add some mascara.

On the outer half of my eye, I used the true purple shade in the palette ‘Bliss In Barcelona’.

Then to brighten things up a bit I used the light gold shimmery shade in the Vintage Romance palette ‘Meet In Madrid’.

With a pencil brush I applied this under the rest of my eye and on the inner corner.

I finished off the eyes with some brown liner in the upper and lower waterline, some mascara to my lower lashes and a light shimmery brow highlight.

And then we’re dunzo!

I hadn’t used this palette in so long and a few of you had told me it was your fave Sleek eyeshadow palette, so hopefully if you own it, this might give you some inspiration.

Easy Eye Look- Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette

I’m back again with another Urban Decay Naked Palette look. I am no makeup artist, just a lover of makeup and applying it :). I did a look with the the Naked 2 here a while ago too. I think most makeup lovers picked up one of these palettes along the way, so I want to cover all the bases.

This time I did a really easy and achievable Smoky eye using the aptly named Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette.

First up I primed my eyelids with the Paese Eyeshadow Base. I just used my finger to apply it.

Then over top of it, just to set it and to get rid of the tacky feeling, I used the lightest shade in the Naked Smoky Palette ‘Thirteen’ all over the eyelid.

This step isn’t really necessary, but I just added a little of the shade ‘Combust’ into my crease to begin the story 🙂

To lay a base for the darker shadows on my lid, I grabbed the Nyx Jumbo Pencil in Slate.

I applied this to the moving part of my eyelid, one eye at a time and blending as I went as these set pretty fast.

To blend out the edges of the Jumbo pencil more and deepen up the crease, I took the shade ‘Password’, which is a grey toned matte brown.

I used a clean Mac 217 blending brush to buff this into my crease, and to make sure there was no harsh edges.

Next is the fun part 🙂 I loaded up my brush with the colour ‘Armor’.

And patted this onto where the Jumbo Pencil was. Be sure to pat, there is alot of fallout. You can always apply more of this at the end to intensify the look so don’t worry if you blend some away finishing the look.

I decided to darken the outer v so I took a tapered blending brush and grabbed the darkest shade in the palette ‘Black Market’.

I basically just drew a V with the brush on the outer part of my crease and lid.

Then, you guessed it more more blending 🙂 I cleaned my 217 off again and diffused the edges of the black.

If the colour gets too muddied, just apply more and blend the edges. Don’t worry if the edges of your eyes get a bit messy, you can just clean it up with you concealer.

Under the eye I added some ‘Black Market’ with a pop of ‘Armor’ in the middle and blended it up to meet my top lid

I curled my lashes and added some healthy coats of mascara. You can by all means add lashes and some liner on the top lash line at this point if you want to make the look even more dramatic.

I decided to add some gel liner to my inner waterline. Rather than going for black, I went with the Inglot AMC Matte liner in 78, which is a grey colour.

I wrote a whole blogpost about how I apply liner here so I won’t bore you with all the details. I use a pencil dipped in the liner to get the job done though :).

So I tightlined the top.

And the bottom.

You can see the difference with or without liner here.

Last set. I added some highlight to the inner corner. I took the shade ‘High’ in the Naked Smoky Palette.

And applied a good helping with a pencil brush.

It just adds a brightness to the look. You can see one eye with and one without here.

And there you have it, there’s my hopefully easy smoked eye look using the Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette.

I added a light pink lip and some peach blush to finish it off.

That’s my look with the Urban Decay Naked Smoky palette complete. 🙂

Urban Decay Naked 2 Easy Eye Look

I am a makeup lover, not a makeup artist. But I do enjoy slapping the slap on, so I thought I would start doing little step by step posts. Hopefully they will do down well 🙂

I did a really easy Autumn appropriate eye look using my favourite (I think) from the Naked Palette the Urban Decay Naked 2.

First up in this Urban Decay Naked 2 look, I primed using their Primer Potion, I would be nowhere in makeup land without primer! I just used my finger to add a small amount all over the lids.

Then I used the Maybelline Color Tattoo in ‘Pomegranate Punk’ as a base colour on my eyelid.

I just patted this on with my fingers, not taking it above the crease of my eye and used a synthetic blending brush to blend away any harsh edges.

Time to crack open the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette 🙂

To ensure any shadows I was going to use blended easily on my lids, I just used the same synthetic brush to add a wash of ‘Foxy’ from the crease up, it’s just a matte skin coloured shadow.

Using a Nima ‘Debs’ brush.

I dipped it into the shade ‘YDK’ from the palette.

I applied this on top of the Maybelline Color Tattoo.

This shadow has alot of fallout, in fact most Urban Decay shadows do because they are so soft, so I suggest waiting to do your concealer or even your whole face until after the shadows are applied.

Once I was happy with the colour on the lids, I cleaned off the Nima brush and dipped in into ‘Tease’

It’s a matte purpley taupe shade so works lovely as a crease colour.

And so I added this softly into the crease in window wiper motions and built up the colour in stages. easy peasy right?

For an added little bit of dimension, I took a smaller brush, this is the Real Techniques ‘Essential Crease Brush’.

I went into the shade ‘Busted’ and just added a small amount to the outer V of my eyes.

Not necessary, but adding in a bit of darkness makes it look a little more dramatic I think.

I then took the lightest shimmery colour in the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette ‘Bootcall’ and applied it to my brow bone.

Probably not a step everyone likes, you might prefer a matte, but for me I like a bit of shine there sometimes 🙂

Instead of lining my lid with a black or brown, I chose this Barry M pencil in ‘Bold Purple’. It’s a true purple with a bit sparkle running through it.

I applied it from the pencil, it’s nice and soft, and then I got it right into the lash line with a little liner brush.

I applied some mascara to my upper lashes and then for the lower lash line, I just blew out some ‘Busted’ shadow under there and left it at that.

I lined my waterline with L’Oreal Infallible pencil in ‘Night Day Black’. This is a dark grey colour.

If I knew I was out for the whole night I probably would have switched up this step and used a gel liner instead.

I added mascara to my bottom lashes then.

Final touch, again unnecessary and not for everyone, I used a pencil brush to apply some of the ‘Bootycall’ shade to my inner tear duct. I love doing this step, I think it just brightens my eyes and because I used purple shades it covers any purple under tones that might be visible on my skin there.

And there you have it, my really simple and of course unprofessional cool toned purple look using the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette.
