In case you don’t follow me on social media, here is a recap. Essence Cosmetics turned 15 this year. To celebrate, they had a big party in Berlin, Germany. And I was one of the lucky people who got to go. Four of us in total got to go from Ireland. May I add the other three ladies who were on the trip were absolute legends.

I decided to bring my camera to try and vlog my’ Weekend In Berlin With Essence Cosmetics’.

Like it was a no brainer that I had to at least try! It’s not everyday that a girl (ahem, woman) like me gets to have a weekend in Berlin with a makeup brand!

I am still new to this vlogging game. I’ve only ever done it once before with John here. On my own I can talk to the camera, but I am still pretty shy about pulling it out in front of other people…that’s what she said πŸ™‚

weekend in berlin

So the vlog consists of everything we got up to with a smattering of me keeping you updated generally in the comforts of my hotel room πŸ™‚

We stayed in the nhow hotel on the East side of Berlin, which is a really cool music themed hotel. The party itself was held in the Tempdrom Berlin, which is a pretty epic venue! We weren’t allowed bring cameras, but I did have my phone and managed to get a couple of clips of the joint. I’m sure if you follow me on Snapchat or Instagram, you got the feel of it though.

The next day we got some site seeing in which was awesome. I really wanted to visit Kiko while I was there, but all the shops close on Sunday. That was probably a good thing though in hindsight, because it meant I had more time to explore the city a little.

I honestly had the loveliest time and I hope you coming on my weekend in Berlin through video form πŸ™‚ As always you can click on the video above to watch, or head directly to my YouTube channel here.

Thank you so so much to the Essence PR here in Ireland for inviting me and of course to all of you for tuning in!!

Myself and John have only gone and vlogged! In the outside world! Well kind of. We went for a spa weekend in Mount Wolseley hotel in Carlow for my birthday.

Since we bought a fancy vlogging camera a while ago (you can see it in my previous favourites post here). We thought we should put it to good use and film our spa weekend. Now this is a very new medium for me and especially for John although he seems to be more comfortable in front of the camera ha! I am used to just sitting on a chair in a room on my own babbling away about makeup with no one there. This is definitely out of my comfort zone. But, I wanted to challenge myself and I love watching vlogs so wanted to give it a go.

Have a click on the video above or click here to directly watch on my YouTube channel. Obviously, it’s just a chilled weekend in a hotel, so it’s nothing groundbreaking. You can see John’s impressive craft beer selection, that he brought because he couldn’t decide what he wanted πŸ™‚ This picture was amongst the footage, so I thought I would add it in as a tribute to him ha!

And of course the hotel, what we ate and the spa:

We also did a bit of exploring on the way back to Dublin, so that’s in there too.

I wanted a spa weekend for my birthday, but didn’t want to go all out. If money was no object I would have been in Galgorm πŸ™‚ We got a really good deal on Deal Rush for Mount Wolseley. We had a lovely weekend and the staff were super nice, but I can’t say I would recommend it if you were paying full price. Also, the spa is a separate entity within the hotel so you have to pay extra to use the facilities, I thought that was a bit unusual.

We are very new to this so be kind. I would love to hear what you think though and if you like this sort of thing. The beauty talk isn’t going anywhere, this is just hopefully something new to add in to keep things fresh.

Shock horror, this post is not beauty related!!! You know this happens very rarely aroung these parts. But, sure I thought I would mix it up and talk about five random things I am loving right now!

Beauty is a big part of my life, but I do dabble in other things too now and again πŸ™‚

I thought it would be fun to talk about my five random things I am loving in video form. This is a bit off the cuff and just a bit of fun, so I hope you don’t mind the lack of beauty related chatter.

I’m rambling about my favourite television series at the minute. May I add I am way late to the party with this one.

My favourite non alcoholic beverage.

And my favourite alcohol related beverage too! Sure you need to have balance in this life, don’t you? πŸ™‚

Then, I have two clothing related favourites aswell. Both making me revisit my younger years. Yes, I am old so I’m allowed say that!

I would love your feedback. Do you like touches of non beauty related stuff when it comes to beauty bloggers and vloggers? Or should I quit while I’m ahead?

As always thanks loads for clicking, watching and reading. I really appreciate it. Feel free to let me know anything random that you are loving right now. I’m off to have a mocha…or a gin, I can’t decide πŸ™‚

I feel really weird doing this, not going to lie. But, I love watching question and answer videos on YouTube. I love getting a little nosey into people’s personal lives and seeing them as human, if that makes sense?

getting personal beautynook

I am as human as they come, sometimes too much so πŸ™‚

I officially have 50 videos over on my YouTube channel!! I literally never thought I would see the day. Seriously, the thoughts of making a video scared the living daylights out of me. It still does, but I am getting more and more comfortable with it as each video is completed. It’s a slow process getting my content seen, but everyday more people stop by.

Getting Personal

I am by no means a YouTuber. I make videos to mix up my content here on Beautynook. I am a huge vlog fan too, so I wanted to give it a go myself and push my comfort zones a little. I’ve grown to love the editing aspect of it, and am actually thinking of maybe vlogging a little too if that’s something that would interest you guys? So getting a little personal every now and again and showing you snippets of life?

For my 51st video I thought I would try on the personal side a bit (not too much ha) and answer some questions that you very kindly asked me on my Snapchat and on my Facebook page.

There’s some random questions, some blogging questions and some life questions. You can as always watch the video by clicking on it above or directly on my channel here.

This was another step outside my comfort zone, I have to admit. I’m not a particularly private person, I’ll tell you anything. But doing it in this capacity is a bit more formal and permanent. I’m not the most eloquent speaker either, but sure hopefully you enjoy it anyways.

I was also digging my ‘more simple’ makeup that day, so here’s a bit of a closer look. I used a baby blue pencil in my waterline and I think it really opens the eyes up πŸ™‚

I did a What’s In My Handbag video last year when I was heading to a blogger event here. That was more of an evening appropriate bag. I thought I would do an updated one.

irish beauty vlogger

This is completely just for fun, no rhyme or reason. I love seeing what other people lug around in their handbag. My bag is technically a bag pack, I am trying something different for me. I adore handbags, but I am a little brat when it comes to carrying them. I thought a bag pack might make things a little easier. So far, so good πŸ™‚

top irish beauty blog

I don’t have a link for it unfortunately, it seems to be gone now. But Zara have lots of lovely bags in at the minute. So many in fact, that I am going to leave a link here, but I’m not going to click on it myself. I can not afford to ha!

zara handbagzara bagpack

The contents of my handbag comprises mainly of makeup. Shock horror I know! When I put something in, I rarely remember to take it out. So, the bag becomes it’s residents for the foreseeable future.

what's in my handbag

You can of course see me talk about everything in a bit more detail in the video above, or you can click here to watch it directly over on my YouTube channel.

I admire people who have their shit together and have their handbag neat and tidy. I am definitely not one of them. Things just get thrown in and I hope for the best. The bigger the bag, the bigger the mess. I like to call it organised chaos though. I know what I have in it, it just might take me a while to find it πŸ™‚

As always thanks for taking the time to watch and read. Do you like these types of ‘nonsense’ videos? I would love your feedback.

Blogging in Ireland is under extreme scrutiny at the moment. I’ve seen a lot of talk online about it disappearing or becoming obsolete. I have also seen so many negative views on it. I can of course only give you my opinion and my thoughts on blogging.

blog

Blogging first and foremost is a place to write about something, anything. It’s a safe haven for people to write down their thoughts. Of course it has taken on a life of it’s own over the past few years. It has become a form of media, a place where people can go to be informed on things, places and even people. It is also now a business with rules and regulations that need to be obeyed like any other.

‘noun: blog; plural noun: blogs
Β a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style.’

I use it as a creative space to talk about what I love, beauty. This is something else that is ridiculed a lot. Beauty blogging is seen as vacant, not important. I don’t tear apart your hobby and your outlet, why do it to mine just because you don’t get it or think it isn’t important? I see talk of it being over saturated and that there’s too many people doing it. I think there is room for everyone, the internet is a big place πŸ™‚ We may talk about the same things, but what is special about your blog, is you. Your take on things, your words, your thoughts.

I know there are negative sides to the blogging industry. But that happens with any industry, you can’t tar everyone who blogs with the same brush.

I also think the word ‘blogger’ is used in the wrong context a lot. To me, a blogger is someone who has and maintains a blog with their content on it. Social media is an extension of that. I have grown to love using and interacting on social media too through blogging.

I began blogging just to blog. Of course nowadays I am lucky to receive product for consideration as well use Beautynook as an excuse to buy way too much aswell πŸ™‚ I know this is a big talking point at the minute. If you follow me, you know I am more then happy to declare if something was given to me. I am also more than happy to share my real opinions on things good, bad or indifferent. Or sometimes no opinion at all if I have nothing to say about something. If I ever collaborate with brands I love, I will shout it from the rooftops. I think it’s something to be proud of! I put a lot of work into Beautynook. Into sampling products, researching them, photographing, writing posts and keeping up with social media. I enjoy every minute it, but it is work and it is time consuming. I am also learning and growing from it constantly, which I think is really important.

I am not perfect by any means. My writing isn’t perfect. My pictures definitely aren’t. My makeup skills are far from it. I don’t claim to be an expert. I am human. But, I have so much passion for the beauty industry. I find it so inspiring. That’s why I choose to write and learn about it. I have also been so lucky to meet awesome like minded people while doing it and have had some awesome opportunities. I feel so very lucky that people interact and take the time to read what I write and also value my opinions. It is literally the best feeling in the world! There is definitely mixed opinions out there on whether it is OK to blog for a living or make money out of it! I think people make money from their hobbies all of the time, why should it be any different? It is the dream to make a career doing something you love.

Blogging is a choice, anyone can do it, all you have to do is be inspired and start typing! If you have a passion and you want to write about it, just do it. It’s fun… I promise πŸ™‚

Thank you for everything!
